The sound of her alarm blaring across the room was causing the Aspect to groan in return as she muttered under her breath in Russian before evidently closing the alarm. “God…” she hissed and massaged her temples as her blue hues stared at the ceiling above her. Malva had a pounding headache from last night and thankfully it was because of the bottles inside her room.
It was the first time Mal actually drunk her sorrows away since 120 years ago. Ever since she met Sebastian again at the citadel in Greece, she has been more anxious than ever. She got her magic back, so that’s good news but the bad news is that now she still couldn’t control them. Getting your magic back without having the control is dangerous.
After she took her shower and got dressed, the Aspect of Magic came downstairs and went straight to the Archives located in the underground, after getting her coffee. She walked in with ease after the doors opened itself to her, even when she was struggling with her magic previously, she still had her signature and that was more than enough to trigger it. She put her coffee on the table and started scanning the books in the aisles, bringing a few to the table as she tried to find any answer to recovering what she had.
She didn’t even notice the hours passing by. By the time she noticed someone else coming in, it was already half past 5, meaning she has been there for the past 4 hours and with dozens of books, bringing not one solution or hint to her persisting problem. “There must be something I missed…” she mumbled softly and buried her face into the book. She was tired.

She remained silent as Malva began to articulate the burdens weighing her down. With a gentle expression, Penelope moved closer to the most powerful magic user of their time, her hand resting lightly on Malva’s shoulder in a comforting squeeze. “I have a few questions I’d like to ask,” she said softly. “If they feel too personal, feel free to skip them.”
In an instant, the room around them shifted, transforming into a cozy space with a small table set for tea. The inviting aroma of herbal blends filled the air, providing a serene backdrop for their conversation. Penelope picked up one of the delicate teacups, the warmth soothing her fingers as she settled into a deep, plush chair, appreciating the privacy the setting offered against any potential intrusions from those wandering the Archives.
“So, were you feeling imbalanced with your magic, or is there a larger issue at play?” Penelope ventured, trying to discern whether Malva's struggles were rooted in magic itself or something deeper within her soul. “What did you mean when you said he helped somewhat?” Clarification was essential; she could sense the layers of complexity in Malva's situation.
Penelope continued, her voice steady and thoughtful. “From what I understand, once someone goes through a significant issue, easing back into daily life is crucial to avoid triggering a relapse.” She paused, considering her words carefully. “While this method is often applied to those recovering from addiction, if your challenges stem from magic and you feel like a walking time bomb, that’s certainly a cause for concern.”
“Do you feel overwhelmed by your powers?” she asked, her gaze steady on Malva. “Or do you think fear is convincing you that you can’t handle them because of past experiences?” Penelope hoped her questions would encourage deep reflection, allowing Malva to explore her feelings more profoundly.
“I don’t have solid answers,” she admitted, her brow furrowing slightly. “But I do know that training and practicing control over your magic and emotions are key. I also have some pieces that can dampen magical abilities, but that isn’t a long-term solution. Relying on magical dampers can make you dependent on them, and they’re really only meant for short-term use or to help you pass as human.” Her voice trailed off as she began to mumble to herself, contemplating the complexities of magic and the burdens it carried.

Ailward Aspect
✓ Malva Ailward
She didn’t like asking for help. She had already established that long ago. Everyone knows Malva Ailward takes pride in everything she does so she always makes sure that she doesn’t have any moment where she had to ask another person for any favors that wasn’t owed to her. Yet here she is, asking help from a guard. It wasn’t the fact that it was Penelope she was asking help from, it had something to do with the fact that she needed help at all.
The Aspect of Magic lifted her gaze sharply as soon as those words escaped Penelope, she hated being judged most of all. “Would you blame me though? My past experiences haven’t been quite mild. They’re rather complex.” Nobody likes a witch going on an emotional spiral and Malva often had those episodes back then. “I don’t feel overwhelmed by it but… I feel like it’s quite burdening? I don’t know how to describe it. I just feel like I would trip one day and… I won’t be able to come back from it.” That’s her biggest fear.
She chuckled and shook her head when she mentioned reaching out to the previous Aspect of Magic “I mean she’s not alive, that’s for one. But… I guess it’s not entirely impossible to not pay a visit to the ancestral plane… but I need someone to be my eyes and ears… for lookout too…”

“Malva, it’s perfectly okay to seek help,” she said softly, her voice filled with empathy. “Even the strongest among us have their vulnerabilities. You don’t have to navigate this alone.” Leaning in closer, Penelope's gaze was steady and sincere. “I want to support you in any way I can. You have the strength within you; sometimes, it just takes a little guidance to help you see it.”
As Malva spoke about Sebastian Daystar, Penelope nodded, recognizing the weight of his legacy. “He’s powerful, but remember, your magic is your own. You’ve achieved so much, and I truly believe you can find that stability again,” she reassured her friend.
When Malva expressed her fears of losing control, Penelope felt a rush of determination. “I understand that feeling of being on the edge, scared of what might happen if you lose grip,” she said, her tone firm yet gentle. “But we can work together to find that balance. You’re not just a powerful Aspect; you’re also a brilliant Diviner, and you can harness your magic in a way that feels right for you.”
Malva’s chuckle at the thought of reaching out to the previous Aspect of Magic elicited a soft smile from Penelope. “True, she may not be alive, but connecting with the ancestral plane could still be possible,” she suggested, her excitement growing. “And I can be your lookout during that process. I’m skilled in astral plane walking, and I can guide you through those realms if you choose to explore. You won’t have to face this alone.”
Penelope paused, her expression earnest. “Exploring the depths of your past and understanding the aspects of magic can provide you with valuable insights. This journey won’t be easy, but I’m here to walk alongside you every step of the way.” Penelope’s resolve strengthened as she spoke. “And remember, it’s perfectly natural to stumble along the way. What truly matters is your willingness to rise again. I’ll be right here, ready to catch you if you fall.”
