All you hear is about how unfair the world is, how nothing ever goes right. Well, sometimes that pessimistic view isn’t wrong and those who choose to ignore it tend to end up burned to ashes while they “hope” for the best. Funny, because Nyx is not one who falsely hopes, his past doesn’t allow that kind of thing anymore.
On one stormy night… Ha, just kidding.
Nyx’s story begins with a family who rejected the ways of their species, two individuals who cared more for themselves then the well being of others. Though he can’t blame them, they were Necromancers and their own personality challenged each other. You would think having a coven seemed nice to them, but his family was a tad bit ignorant to these common sense rules.
When they had their first child, they didn’t want her, they sent her to a family within the coven because it was a girl. His mother cried and cried but within days she was normal and his father, that man didn’t even cringe when he handed off his little girl. The second child was Nyx himself, a quiet child who had eyes that could freeze someone solid, it was odd most babies cried or screamed yet he barely did so.
His father and mother adored him, it was astounding as they fawned over his every movement yet to others they gave death glares and venomous smirks. These necromancers amused the child, but all good things had to end, it was just the way destiny called for it to happen.
At the age of 11, his parents were taken from him, his father by the police and his mother she took her own life in grief. Strangely, the young boy was barely hurt by these facts, his heart frozen to the world as if second nature. Despite all of this, he was adopted by another family, one that was in the heart of Evermore, The Eternal City. They were of the Fae, they knew what he was and their goal was to lean him towards a brighter path, if only they knew how futile their efforts were, they might have left him to die.
As years went on his got stronger, his magical prowess grew with every lesson, his body and mind understanding spells before he knew what to do. He could read spells and within second he knew how to perform them, his botany skills were uncomparable ingredients for spells growing for him even if they seemed out of season.
By the day before his 18th birthday his adoptive parents smiled, they wanted the best for him and they knew his heart had to have been swayed. But as twilight approached, the ice in his soul reflected not a bright light but darkness as the sky was swallowed by his shade. The young man didn’t want to be of light, his heart had be frozen long ago, the image of his mother’s dead body frozen in his mind while he knew his father sat in prison for life. A murderer as a father and a pathetic mother, such bittersweet melodies forged something that could not be broken.
Time sped past him, it wasn’t long in his mind before he reached his 29th birthday, his future seemingly flew past him the blur of faces on who he had slept with and met. Nyx felt amused, he had become a lawyer within Evermore, he had grown in success and made sure of it. The darkness still sat with him and he used it often, he was on of the top Prosecution Lawyers within Evermore and he loved the faces of those condemned to live in hell.
Nyx was happy to say the least, he still looked 19, he had his own house…
But the darkness had frozen him slowly, and at this point the pain of being alone had hit him. But he had long to live and had minimal worry. He may live in Evermore, but it’s amusing how little friends he had. He barely spoke to his coven unless required…
When the comet came and changed everyone within the city in different ways, for different reasons, Nyx, like all the other Fae and Necromancers realized that they were no longer weakened by each other. Something in the comet had changed their reactions with the opposite spectrum of the species and while others rejoiced that they could be around those that were the opposite of them, Nyx felt nothing.
Ah… This is the life...
