They say time heals and makes us forget but when it came to the life of the Adriana Mercer, memories of her past will never be erased...
On a cold December night in Evermore City, the Mercer family were blessed with the arrival of their first child, a girl. Adriana grew into an amazingly intelligent child, one who excelled in everything she did and though she was highly praised for her success as such a young age by her mother, her father could care less about her endeavors. The eldest Mercer paid little to no attention to his only child like his wife had and even when the parents welcomed another daughter, he was hardly in either child’s life. Soon came the accusations of infidelity with how late he’d be home and those, alone were brushed off. It infuriated her but what was she to do when she had no money and nowhere else to go?
As Adriana turned 18, her high school graduation came and went, her father missing the ceremony as well as the party her mom had gone out of her way to throw. She was used to his behavior, however, so his absence didn’t affect her one bit. His behavior did change the moment she officially became an adult, though, and with obvious reason. While her mother was a human, her father was a born Initia. His children were well aware of what he was as well as the other species they’d been living amongst for the past couple of years. Once he changed and became more into how she was doing, Adri knew exactly why; he was hoping she’d become a Initia like him. Months past after her birthday and when the tribal tattoo all Initia’s sported didn’t appear on her skin, realization that she was human sunk in and her father didn’t like it one bit. He returned to his old self, ignoring his eldest daughter as well as his wife, blaming her for giving him a human child. His sole focus from then on remained on Adriana’s little sister, Amelie who was only 14 at the time.
The next couple of years went by in a blur with her father paying no attention to her and her mother but showering her younger sister with the love a father should give his children. Her father was a conceited man, however, and his affection was for one thing, an Initia child who he could train to be like him. Things didn’t necessarily go his way, though, when Amelie’s 18th birthday came around and the tribal tattoo had yet to appear on her skin. They waited for a few days and all signs lead to one thing; Amelie was human. Their father was furious and it was obvious he didn’t care about his little family because the moment he found out he’d been given human children, he fled, vowing to never see them again. Eventually, Adriana found out he’d remarried and his wife had actually given him Initia children. It didn’t affect her, nor did it her mother and sister. They were used to his mistreatment of them so finding out he’d moved on was a relief.
Her mother was growing old as the years went on and in order to support her small family, Adri applied for a job at Evermore General once she’d come across an add that said they were looking for a new receptionist. Her interviewer loved her right away and she was handed the position before the interview came to end and the fact that she’d gotten a good job made her mother happy.
While working at the hospital part time, Adriana was also going to school. Her mind was completely blank when it came to what she wanted to do but what she did know was that she wanted to go into the medical field. Seeing doctors and nurses help save other peoples lives inspired her and after going to community college, she went straight into medical school. There, she learned about different surgeons from cosmetic surgeons to Neurologists. Everything excited her but as they went into speaking about Cardiothoracic surgery, in specific, Adriana realized how much more interesting organ surgical treatment were. The thought of helping someone who suffered with an organ decease and bettering them was what she wanted to do.
Another couple of years went by and after managing to graduate a little early than most with her grades, alone, Adriana landed a job as one of Evermore Generals Cardiothoracic Surgeons. She continued to support her mom and sister and would usually be home to spend time with them before the sun set. However, one night she’d worked overtime and she’d forever regret that decision...
As she parked in the driveway of her family’s home, things seemed off. Adriana had noticed how dark it was at first and as she made her way inside, things were quiet. It was too early for anyone to be asleep so the question that hung in the air was: where were they? Suddenly, a blood curdling scream was heard and she raced towards the direction and as she entered the living room, the sight before her was terrifying.
Her little sister was unconscious on the floor, blood dripping from her forehead and her mother was being restrained by a Vampire who had his teeth deep into her neck. He drank and drank and her mother was quickly losing color. In her state of panic, Adriana tried to pry the much stronger bloodsucker from her mom, only for him to punish her by ripping her moms throat out right in front of her. She vividly remembered all the blood she’d seen till this day and the look on the Vampire’s face as he licked the leftover blood from his lips before fleeing.
She’d fallen to her knees and called an ambulance but though she was aware her sister would be fine, she knew her mother was dead. How was she supposed to mourn? The entire incident made her traumatized and though she didn’t know how the leech had gotten into their home, she didn’t want to.
Adriana refused to take time off of work because of how much she loved her job. The only day she did take of was the day of her mothers funeral but when she returned, the apologies and remorseful looks she’d get angered her. Things stayed that way for weeks but like most things, the incident was forgotten. She, however, could never forget. Though humans helped create a treaty between every species, she still had a hatred for Vampires. Every single one of them, good or bad, is her enemy.
