Dominic pounded down the sidewalk as he ran full force through the city streets. It wasn't enough that he was running faster than most normal people could, being Therian and all, but of course it had to be in the middle of human territory. It could really be a nuisance that humans were so kept in the dark when shit was going down. He turned around another city block and caught sight of his target that was knocking over a cafe table full of patrons. Dominic jumped over the fallen chairs and continued forward, not letting the man get away.

It all started with rumors of a pack of out of town Therians who were causing problems throughout Evermore. They had come to start trouble. The kind of illegal trouble that involved moving guns from one place to another. Dominic had discovered one of the safe houses they were keeping the stashes in was somewhere in one of the territories, though he hadn't discovered which one. Yet.

The man he was chasing was a Lycan. After a few drinks at a local bar, he was easily talking to Dominic since he wasn't able to hold his liquor or his secrets very well. If someone was drinking as heavily as he was during the middle of the day, Dominic knew he was going to be the one to talk. It meant he had a guilty conscious. And now here they were, running through the streets filled with thousands of humans. He pushed forward as people were screaming and trying to get out of the way of the chase. "Move! Move!! Out of the way!"

The runaway drunk was starting to lose energy. Alcohol would do that to you, whether you were a supernatural or not. Dominic just held his better. As he was catching up, the man ran into a group of people coming out the building, causing them all to fall to the ground. "Shit..." As he scrambled to his feet and started running again, Dom's eyes caught a familiar Guard who happened to be one of the people who'd taken the hit. "Sapphire! Are you okay?" he asked, keeping his sights on the Lycan. "I could use a hand if you're off work right now!" He began after the man again, hoping she might tag along. Two Ailward Guards was better than one.

Sapphire sat there and listened carefully to the conversation at hand. As he talked about Karen, Sapphire noticed Dom pulling out his phone before he showed her who Karen was. The phoenix looked at the phone an read the article before nodding as she looked at the man. The conversation continued before Dom let the man out of the booth, leaving the uneaten food, Sapphire looked at the man as he looked at them before he walked out of the bar. A sigh escaped her lips as she looked at Dom, "Yea that was." She said as she smirked before she started to think about things.

Her attention was brought back to Dom as he spoke. "I agree with the back up but wouldnt it put them in danger? How about we get the rest of the Guard?" She asked as it would be safer instead of having cops go against alot of men who have the power to kill them. Sapphire looked at him as she listed to him. "Ok." She said, listening to him about going  back to his place and getting ready.

Dominic put a hand through his hair and let out a breath. He had thought about calling the other members of the Guard, but they would be too unpredictable when it would come to dealing with his brother. Not to mention he was already embarassed that it was his family causing all these problems in town.

As they headed back out of the bar, Dominic pulled his keys out from his pocket. He led them back to his truck which he'd parked not too far away when he was scouting the area for the Therian they'd just spoken to. After opening the passenger door for Sapphire, he hopped in the driver's side and started the truck. A few minutes into the ride and his brain was going a mile a minute. His eyes went over to the Phoenix and he cleared his throat, trying to find words that were hard to say. He wasn't one for emotional sharing. "I just want to thank you again, Sapph. For having my back with this."

He pulled into the dirt road leading back to his cabin and into the familiar quiet of Therian woods. After parking, Dominic led the way inside and nodded towards the couch for her to make herself comfortable. He grabbed a few pieces of wood and quickly began a fire now that the darkened house had gotten cold from being gone all day. "Do you want a drink? Beer? Wine? Water?"

Sapphire watched him as she ran his hand through his hair before they headed out of the bar. Once the door of the truck was open, Sapphire got into his truck and glanced at him. As he drive for a few minutes, the Phoenix looked at him and smiled softly at his words. "No problem, thats what friends are for along with being in the guard. Guards are suppose to be there for the other guards." Sapphire said as she smiled alittle.

The young Phoenix look through the window as she noticed that they were on a dirt road. Sapphire closed her eyes for a moment as she remember the last time she was in the forest, which was when she was Italy. It was along time ago and the Therian woods where like the small forest in Italy, but Sapphire felt alittle at home in the forest. When Dom parked, Sapphire got out and headed into the cabin as she smiled as she took in the look of the cabin.

Sapphire sat down on the couch before watching Dom start on a fire. "Want any help with the fire?" She asked as she smiled and walked over to him. "A glass of wine would be nice." She said as she then looked around his house. The blue eyed Phoenix looked around as she took in every detail. Being a game developer, Sapphire took in details of everything she saw to the color of the floor to the shadows that were cased by the fire.

Dominic handed her the poker to move the wood around and get it going as he went into the kitchen and grabbed the bottle of wine that had been sitting on the counter. He poured her a glass and grabbed himself a beer before he walked back over to hand it to her. His eyes fell on the flames as they danced about. Tomorrow was going to be one of the worst days of his life and he knew it. His brother was too damn stubborn to listen to reason, but that didn't mean he couldn't try. The worst part was he didn't want it to lead to Sapphire being hurt in any way. Eric had given out some pretty specific threats as to what would happen if they kept digging around, but he wasn't sure how stupid his brother would be on carrying out those actions.

He walked over and sat down on the couch, putting his feet up on the coffee table and gazing into the fireplace. His hues flickered over to her and he could tell Sapphire was looking around his cabin. A small smile passed over his face as he also looked around his home. "Pretty different from the city," he said softly. "My quiet escape from the busy world out there. Have you ever been in Therian woods before? Nothing like it anywhere else in Evermore." He chuckled a little and drank the beer, giving a shrug. "Though I guess I'm a little biased." His hazel eyes fell on the pictures of his ancestors on the wall and then on to the dreamcatchers his mother had made him years ago. Then of course he smiled a bit more as he looked at one of his many guitars by the side of the fireplace with a stash of his favorite records.

"And sorry for the mess. Wasn't really expecting company. I don't have anyone here ever." Dominic took another gulp of the beer and stood up to grab the blankets at the end of the couch. "My room is in there," he began, nodding to the other door across the wide open concept cabin, "So feel free to crash in there. I can stay out here. I'll get a fire starting in there so you'll be warm throughout the night. Figured we gotta get some kind of rest if we're going to be charging into mortal danger and all tomorrow," he joked to lighten the mood.

Sapphire smiled as she was handed a glass of wine, she quietly thanked him as she went back to looking around his home. The phoenix then sips her wine as she turned to him. "It is different from the city." She said as she smiled. "I have been to the Therian woods once but it was when I lived in a different part of Evermore." Sapphire spoke. The blue eyed phoenix sat down on his couch and smiled as her eyes looked at his pictures as she then glanced at the guitars.

Her blue hues looked at him as he talked about the mess. "Its not bad, Try having 2 pups, well one dog and one puppy." She said with a chuckle as she stood up as she looked at him as she drink more of the wine. She looked at his room and smiled softly as she hen looked at him. "You dont need to start a fire, just put some wood in there and I can take care of the rest." Sapphire said as she smiled as she held out her free hand. A small flame appeared in her hand as she smirked before she put it out. "Perks of being a Phoenix, I am able to control fire and also keep warm." She said.

Sapphire looked at him as he was trying to lighten the mood. "Well yea, we will need our rest when we are going into mortal danger and all. But I think we got this." She said with a smile. The phoenix finished her wine and sighed as she then walked over, placing the glass on the table.

Dominic nodded with a soft smile as she produced the fire in her hand. He was always a little jealous of a supernatural that could use magic. It wasn't exactly the most useful, being a Lycan, but then again, he wouldn't change it for the world. "Just try not to burn my house down, okay?" he joked, finishing off the beer and taking the glass of wine from the table. He tossed the bottle and rinsed out the glass quickly before taking an armful of wood and heading towards his bedroom. Dominic dumped a few of the logs into the fireplace and placed the rest in the bin next to it if she needed it.

After grabbing the few bits of laundry on the bed, he changed the sheets and pointed to the bathroom. "Feel free to make use of it. There's an outdoor shower too if you're feeling adventurous or have never used one before. Best time to do it is now, while the stars are out. Quite the view. Just take my robe with you so you don't freeze out there." He smiled and backpeddled out of the room. "If you need anything, you know where I'll be," he said, nodding towards the couch.

Dominic pulled the blankets he always kept on the back of the couch down and laid them out over the cushions. After grabbing a beer, he collapsed and slowly drank from the bottle, staring up at the ceiling as he normally did every night when he was trying to get any rest. Not only was sleeping nearly impossible, but tonight he had a reason to not be able to. His mind wandered to all the possibilities of what would and could happen as he tried to play the events of tomorrow over and over again.

Sapphire smiled as she lightly tossed the fire ball into the fireplace as she smiled. "Dont worry I wouldnt do that." Sapphire said as she smiled. Her blue eyes looked to where he pointed and nodded as she smiled alittle. "Thank you for letting me stay here." She said softly as she listened to him about the outdoor shower. Sapphire nodded as she walked over to the bed and sat down as she stared at the fire when Dom headed to the couch. The phoenix stared at the fire as her mind wandered as she stared. The flames reflected in her blue hues as Sapphire thought about the events that were going to happen to tomorrow.

The phoenix sat there for alittle bit before she took off her shoes, setting them at the end of the bed. Sapphire then just sat in the bed as she held a small flame in her hand as she thought about everything that lead her to be a guard. The small flame in the palm of her hand danced softly as Sapphire looked at it. Sapphire soon put the flame out in her hand and smiled as the memories of when she came to Evermore. Through all the ups and downs in her life, Sapphire happy to say that she loved being in Evermore and even happier to be a guard just to keep the peace between the other factions.

Her blue eyes looked around the room as she got out of bed and put more wood in the fire before she laid down in the bed. Sapphire closed her eyes as she tried to sleep. As the night went on, Sapphire managed to go to sleep for a few hours before she then woke up as the sun started to rise. The phoenix managed to go outside as she watched the sunrise. Sapphire took in the cool air in her lungs as she then sighed softly as she was fully awake now as she took in the sights around the cabin.

Dominic's eyes fluttered open as he heard movement coming from inside his cabin. He bolted upright on the couch, but Sapphire's scent hit him immediately and he remembered that she had stayed the night. Sighing, he fell back against the cushions and closed his eyes again. His body was drained and his mind had already began to race. There was no going back to sleep even if he wanted to. The few hours that he did sleep for were restless and uneasy. Today was going to be a rough one all around.

He heard Sapphire pass by him and head out of the front door which made him glance through the front bay window. She was smiling softly and looking around the grounds of his home. It was obvious how much she appreciated Therian Woods and that made him smile as well. He always enjoyed meeting others that had a passion for the outdoors. With a slight groan, Dominic pulled himself up from the couch and let out a huge yawn and stretch. He grabbed the nearest flannel and put it over his bare chest before heading into the kitchen and putting on some coffee.

A few minutes later he was bringing out a tray with two mugs, creamer, and sugar outside on his small front porch, placing it down on the table for two. "Good morning." Dom ran a hand through his messy hair and leaned on the railing to look at the waking woods. This was always his favorite part of the morning just before he would go for his run or swim or sometimes even both. He grabbed the coffee mug and brought it to his lips, instantly feeling better as the hot liquid met his tongue. "Did you sleep okay?" he asked, looking over at the small stream that passed near the front of his home. On nights that he couldn't sleep, he would sit on the rocking chair out on the porch and listen to it to help him fall asleep during the summertime.

Sapphire smiled softly as she turned to him and nodded, walking over to the table. "Good morning." She said softly as she put some creamer and sugar in her cup of coffee before taking a sip, once everything was mixed together. As the hot liquid came down her throat, it warmed her body as she sighed softly. Her blue eyes looked over at him and smiled, "I did sleep ok, did you? I could hear you moving around on the couch." She asked as she looked at him worriedly as she took another sip of her coffee. As she waited for an answer, Sapphire looked around the cabin once more as she enjoyed the woods for the fresh air and the wildlife.

Her blue eyes glanced at the stream as she smiled, hearing the water flow as she closed her eyes for a moment. Sapphire took in the sounds of the woods as she sipped her coffee more before she opened her eyes. "Do you know why I love coming to the Therian Territory in the mornings?" She asked as Sapphire wanted them to have a nice conversation before the both of them go and into something big. "I used to come here every morning to watch the sunrise and take in the sounds, even though they didnt remind me of Italy, the sounds reminded me why I am here." She said softly as she sipped her coffee more. "My parents were driving down a road where it was surrounded by forest before the accident happened, I remember the moon being up so high as I sat in the back seat when I was 18." Sapphire said softly as she closed her eyes.

The phoenix sighed as she looked at him and smiled as she was happy to be apart of something big like the guard and being apart of the wonderful city, Evermore. "So Dom are you ready to fight if we have to?" She asked as she finished her coffee and smiled softly as she set the mug down and started to stretch, cracking her joints in the process as she smiled softly as each joint had a satisfying pop. "Its been a while since I had a big fight to battle in." She said to him as she looked at him with a smile as she looked at him.

Dominic let a sarcastic smirk pull at the corner of his mouth as she asked him about the quality of his sleep. He drank from the mug again and looked out into the trees. "I don't really sleep," he replied lowly and looked down into his drink. "We don't really make good bedfellows. My brain doesn't seem to ever want to shut off when I want it to. Usually getting any sleep requires a substantial amount of alcohol in my system." He turned his head to look at her briefly as he heard the worry in her tone, giving her a reassuring grin. "Don't worry about it. Nothing I'm not used to."

As she inquired about why he thought she liked his neck of the woods so much, he looked back out at their surroundings while leaning on the wooden railing. "I could certainly think of more than a few reasons." Dominic listened as he listened to his fellow guard. As Sapphire explained how Therian territory reminded her of her parents, he wondered if his attachment to the woods had anything to do with his loss as well. It never occurred to him that maybe he never considered city life for long because it would mean less familiarity when it came to the memories of his parents and times long ago. He put a hand on her shoulder and squeezed it briefly in comfort before finishing off his coffee and putting the cup down.

Dominic couldn't help but give a little smile at her enthusiasm for today. "Am I ready to face down my brother who has threatened to kill both of us? Oh, yea, sure. Totally ready," he said sarcastically and leaned his back against the railing, putting his hands in his pockets. "He needs to be stopped. I just hope it can happen without the bloodshed that he seems so hellbent on causing." Grabbing the now empty mugs and putting them on the tray, he nodded to the inside of the cabin. "I'm gonna change and then start the truck up and then we'll head out towards the docks."

After quickly changing, Dominic checked the gun he kept in the holster on his back once more before starting up his truck and whistling for Sapphire. He climbed in and gave a sigh as he watched her heading over. He still didn't feel right about bringing her, but she was made into a guard for a reason and he knew he wouldn't be able to do this alone. All he could hope for was that she didn't get hurt. "Ready?" he asked, as he put the truck in reverse and turned it around, heading back down the dirt road and towards the highway.

Sapphire smiled as he touched her shoulder in comfort. As he finished his coffee, Sapphire stretched more before placing her cup on the tray. The small guard looked at him as she raised her brow to his sarcastic tone before letting out a chuckle. "I agree he needs to be stopped." Sapphire said as she smiled softly. When he took the empty mugs into the cabin, Sapphire smiled and stretched more as she then practiced some of her fighting as he changed into different clothes. The young phoenix let out a sigh before hearing his truck start.

She looked over at him and smiled softly, "Yup." She said as she got into the truck. Her eyes looked out the window as he turned the truck around and headed towards highway from the dirt road. Sapphire could tell there was something on Dominic's mind. "Whats wrong Dom?" She asked as she looked at him. "I can tell that you have something worrying you." Sapphire said as she looked at him with a worried look.

Dominic pulled the truck out onto the main highway that ran through the territories and sighed softly at her inquiry. "As much as my idiot brother needs to be stopped, I'm just worried in the end he won't make the right decision." He thought of how his parents would've felt if they were still alive and seeing their children going down the paths they'd chosen. Then again, the reasons they had turned out the way they had all started when his mother died. He wondered how different he and his siblings may have grown into instead of the people they are now. It seemed like his little sister was the only one who stayed on the straight and narrow while he and his brother had made some pretty terrible decisions which had landed them both in jail. Dom cringed internally knowing his parents were turning over in their graves.

"Our parents would've been so disappointed. We weren't raised like this. It's disrespectful to their memory and God knows I was no pillar of goodness myself, but what he's doing it just..." He realized he was rattling on and his anger was rising. He took a deep breath and released the tight grip on the steering wheel that he hadn't known he was holding. "I just wish things were different," Dominic said softly, but they weren't and couldn't be. There was no reset button. The threads of time had brought them down this path the moment that truck hit his mother's car and there could never be another option. Neither he or his brother could take back all the awful things they'd done. "But wishing doesn't get you anywhere. It is what it is now and it's time he learned from his mistakes, even if it is while he sits in jail for a very long time."

The scenery around them began to change as the woods of therian territory began to disappear and instead became the tall buildings of the downtown area of the city. The docks weren't too far away as they headed towards the busy hub of ships, freighters, and boats. When he parked the car, Dominic could see it was bustling like any other normal day. It was going to take some time to find the ship they were using. He stepped out of the truck and walked along the dock up to the point where civilians were no longer allowed. His hazel eyes scanned the area to figure out their best bet at sneaking around the guarded gate that required ID to pass through. There was a large warehouse that's entrance was before the gate entry and had a back exit that lead on the other side where they needed to get to. That seemed to be there best way in if they could come up with a distraction. Dominic looked down to Sapphire and smirked. "Feel like being a flirtatious decoy?"
