Tonight was the night. Sariah had spent the past few days since her last meeting with Orion pondering over everything, wondering what tonight was going to be like, of all the things she might learn about him and what she might even reveal about herself. It was weird to think about this being their first date considering all of the things they had been through together and the depth that her feelings ran, first dates were usually the ice breakers and figuring out if there was any kind of connection but this one, this one was different, which only added to the nerves that were piling on.

Sariah's apartment was cosy, despite being the leader of the organization she wasn't paid half as much as she could have been had she chosen to go down either a more corporate or a more illegal route. It was however enough to keep her comfortable and in her opinion, it was decorated nicely. The blonde had spent the past few hours getting ready bit by bit, mostly by pacing back and forth between her room and the living area to prepare everything. Sariah was somewhat of a serial planner, her mind liked to stress over every little detail she was sure most people didn't even notice.

The ambassador was dressed in a dark orange loose fitting dress which moved easily around her, she opted not to bother with shoes since they didn't intend on going out anywhere and Sariah didn't think any sane girl would wear heels around their apartment by choice. Her blonde hair was curled and framing her face in a half updo that was mostly to keep her hair out of her eyes while still looking like she made more than and effort than her usual ponytail and her glasses were tucked away neatly in the dresser replaced with the contact lenses she saved for special occasions.

Once she was happy with her outfit she had called ahead to the Chinese place and ordered a bunch of food to be delivered, not knowing what Orion's preference was she had just picked a range of different dishes and some bases to ensure there was something he would like. On the table she had set two plates and glasses as well as a few bottles of different things to drink. It wasn't often that Sariah really had any visitors to her apartment so she had enjoyed the opportunity to dig out all of the housewarming gifts she had been given when she moved to Evermore and finally allow them to see the light of day.

Sariah had so far done pretty well at not panicking about the part that she was really nervous about, after all, this would be where they figure out whether the feelings that were blossoming between the two of them are something they want to pursue and while Orion had been confident they would have a second date, Sariah was still apprehensive about the answers she might get to the questions she had. After all, this wouldn't be the kind of date where they talked about the weather or at least she hoped it wouldn't because she had so much more to say than that.

Her spiral of thoughts was interrupted by the sound of the doorbell ringing and her eyes widened for a moment before she made a quick dash around the room to grab matches and light the candle on the mantlepiece. Coming to a stop she set she box down on the table and then smoothed down her dress and took a deep breath before she walked over to the entrance hall and reached for the handle to open the door. Stepping around the door she glanced down at her watch for a moment and smiled as she looked up to meet his gaze "On time" she confirmed with a gentle laugh stepping aside to invite him inside.

The thought of anyone not being genuine with Sariah and not giving her the compliments she was deserving of grated on his nerves but he didn’t let it show. People could be idiots in life and depending on the damage done those shattered pieces could take some time to be placed back together. If people only tore you down or were sarcastic and unfeeling towards you it was hard accept compliments at face value or value yourself at times. He knew that well from high school and then watching his children go through the same thing but he never allowed them to feel like less than they were. “Most of the people you knew before me don’t seem like they deserved to know someone like you especially if they couldn’t appreciate you for being you.” There was a soft smile on his lips since he knew that the unique qualities of a person where what made them who they were. It was something to be commended and not bashed.

Honestly Orion would give Sariah whatever portion of the credit she wanted as long as he got to be around her but it was fun to tease her since she seemed to find amusement it in as well. Neither of them was necessarily the sort to rush anything which was why nearly a year or more after meeting they were just having their first date. Given Sariah’s obsessive compulsions in life he had assumed it was just because she wasn’t really sure what to make of him yet and he had bent her trust in another awkward angle he was afraid they might not come back from. Despite that they were both here now enjoying the time they had together without interruption or a false air of being professional. “I tend to think so since patience is necessary in all parts of life especially relationships.” They’d already waited a year to get to this point so it was clear both had their own level of patience which was higher than most.

A chuckle left him as she said she’d like to know his secret when he figured it out. Life was full of ups and downs and right now his was on the way up and he hoped that it maintained that climb since bottoming out now would send him back to square one. “I’ve never been one to just roll over and show my belly in submission and even the downsides of life aren’t going to make that happen. If you dwell on the bad and negative you’re just wasting your life and a lot of people in my life gave theirs so I have this chance and this time. I’m not going to waste it insult their memory by just giving up.” Orion’s decisions where made for himself but he did feel he needed to continue live for those who couldn’t. “As cheesy and cliché as it sounds, even the darkest of nights will have a dawn and the day will begin again.” And that thought alone had kept him pushing forward when he wanted to dwell on the night.

“You sound like my brothers.” He said with a chuckle since most of his teachers in high school couldn’t believe who his brother’s were since he wasn’t necessarily gifted in certain subjects like they were. Obviously he had made it through high school but he wasn’t at the top of his class and that was fine by him. “We all have our skills and our own paths in life. Such as I could never do you job, I’d probably accidentally blow up the lab or something.” He jested with amusement in his tone even though that was a potential reality. That was why he tried to touch very little during Sariah’s small tours of the facility. “You smelled good too.” He teased with a wink as his smile softened at her words, “Well it did give us a very interesting story of how we met.” He chuckled as she covered her face with her hands, “I’d say it didn’t end too badly.”

It really hadn’t seen now he got to smell her sweet scent far more often and hear her laughter, if it hadn’t been for that night they would have met in some boring meeting. Which in that case he would have never known how brave or sympathetic she was. One night and he knew he wanted to actually be able to see her again and be near her since she just radiated light. The Kitsune was very tempted to kiss her again but he figured it might be best to give her time to catch her breath again. Even time he was close to her he swore he was trying to remember how to breath again her entire being overwhelming him, her scents and gentle nature, there was nothing like it.

A goofy grin spread across his lips as her admission, sure he knew it sounded juvenile, but he had no idea how else to phrase it. He wanted to spend his free time with her, he often found himself wondering what she was doing throughout the day and he cared for her safety more than she realized. Love wasn’t the emotion he felt, it was too new for that but it was a very strong sensation. “Good or this date would have gotten really awkward.” His cheeks hurt from smiling and laughing so much, it had been a long time since he’d had a night like that and he didn’t want it to end.

“Small talk isn’t the easiest skill set to master and it’s a necessary one for that occupation.” Given his over all natural demeanor he wouldn’t be the best bartender since most didn’t like to be in his presence for good reason. “I can imagine talking code with drunks could really confuse them considering I have a hard time wrapping my mind around it sober.” Laughter left him as he imagined the number of broken glasses, “So not the profession for you then?” He teased as they loaded up the fridge not necessarily in sync with the motions of the other but managing to work well in the small amount of space, “Pushing me around already?” He mused as she nudged him slightly with her shoulder before laughing at her story of the two drunks. “I have the feeling neither managed to gain your attention for anything more than their childish behavior, though I can’t say I blame them.”

Out of instinct and the natural need to be close to those you care about Orion wrapped his arms around Sariah’s waist enjoying the way their scents seemed to mingle. “My career path was created for me before I even understood what a career was. I’m sure if I had wanted to do something else my parents would have understood but private security interested me as a kid since I would always see the blue prints of buildings laying around or pictures of entrances, exits and guests for events. So I always had questions my parents were more than happy to answer and as a kid it seemed really cool, as an adult I can’t complain since I do still love what I do. It’s not an occupation I’ve ever pushed on my kids though, they’re both so different and I want more for them because I know the last thing either wants is to inherit the family business.” Which he had no problem with since he would rather Arwyn and Seraphina make their own path and do things their own way, if life some how brought them full circle than good, if not he was proud of them regardless.

“On the money again” she repeated in agreement with his statement, she could see it now, she could see the excuses she made for him and how she had twisted the truth in her own mind to make it easier to cope with the situation she found herself in. Sariah wasn’t sure she wanted to bring this up tonight, concerned it might put a dampen on what was otherwise a pretty perfect first date but he had given so much already, she felt like she knew him on a whole different level now than she did before this night. She owed him the same amount of bravery “I uh…” she trailed off not really sure where you started that conversation “I told you before that there was someone” she paused because it really did hurt her to think about, even years down the line “Someone who was very bad for me” it was mostly hard to talk about because she had stayed in that situation for so long.

It was easy to know the line of where to joke with him, he took her humor in his stride. Often the blonde would have to rein herself in because she was very lighthearted and that naturally made her resort to jokes or babbling in unfamiliar situations. Her reservations had come from the past she had been through, not just with Noel but also with those who came after, she seemed to have a curse for choosing guys who weren’t good for her, whether it be their lack of interest in committing or an interest in other girls, somehow every relationship she could recall had ended in heartbreak. Naturally, Sariah wanted to be sure it was worth a shot before setting herself up for that kind of pain again “I’m glad, because I can’t promise things with me are going to move quickly” she wanted to be real with him about what to expect “Honestly the idea of putting my all into something that could fall apart again is terrifying” sure she hoped it wouldn’t but there was always that risk.

Sariah laughed at the way he described giving up because it was so very Orion and not an expression she heard used by many though her laugh turned to a soft smile as she heard the way he saw life, it was a great way to think and he was right, the moment he let himself stop and give up was the moment that those who sought your downfall really won. “Life is short” she agreed with his sentiments though she left out the afterthought of ‘especially when you’re human’. Sariah echoed his chuckle as he compared her to his brothers and talked about how he could never do the job she did, though his comments about blowing up the lab did bring a quick response to her lips “I did that once, totally failed attempt at building my electric shock drones, we had to evacuate the building and everything, total chaos, Holland told me I needed to have a spot at all times after that” she laughed softly “Even smart people have their bad days” she admitted with a shake of her head.

She had to agree with his conclusion, Sariah imagined if she had met Orion for the first time in an ambassador meeting, the story they had been led to would likely have been completely different. She hadn’t really admitted to it at first, but even from that first night she had felt drawn to him, he had reminded her there were still good and brave people in the world at a time when she had really needed it. If she had told herself back that then she would find herself wanting to kiss him more than anything she would have called herself insane and yet here she found herself, drawn to him like a moth was drawn to a flame.

As far as first dates went, this was quite the definition of perfect to her, there wasn’t anyone around to keep face for or to interrupt them, she felt the most like herself than any other time she had been with him and yet he still seemed to like that person. Sariah felt a connection to Orion that she hadn’t really experienced before, the kind that made you want to know every minute detail about a person, made you want to make them smile at any cost. It was strange and scary but addictive at the same time.

“You’d be surprised how often people tried to occupy their time talking to me” she responded with a shrug, she guessed a lot of people went to bars because it was an easy way to be surrounded by people and convince yourself you weren’t lonely. “You know it was a pretty good tactic to get them to leave me be” she responded with a laugh “It was easy, you didn’t have to think so much as just do but…” she smiled brightly “Easy bores me, it’s not good enough for my crazy mind” she laughed as she nudged him “It seems we need to work on our sync” she teased as she leaned her head gently on his shoulder for a moment before finishing up the stacking and closing the fridge door. “Not many people ever did get my attention, try they might” she admitted with a laugh most people called her ‘hard to get’ but honestly after all the things she went through, she’d given up believing someone would be worth her time and effort.

Sariah naturally eased into his touch allowing him to pull her closer and turning to face him her chin tilting upwards to meet his gaze. Sariah had always been small and so most people towered about her but Orion, whilst taller than her, wasn’t a giant who made her feel like she was the size of a doll.”It’s pretty awesome that you followed in your parents footsteps” she admitted with a bright smile “My parents weren’t exactly around enough when I was a kid so I never really aspired to be what they were” she shrugged a little, she wasn’t mad at them for it, if anything it made her more independent and helped her to find her own path in life. She had to wonder what Seraphina and Arwyn excelled in however “Do you have any inclination of what they’ll want to be?” with his arms wrapped around her waist she felt close to him and so she lifted her own to wrap around his neck feeling safety enveloped in his arms. Sariah hadn’t been this close with anyone in a long time and yet it felt right, natural even to be held by him.

Nearly everyone had a past when it came to love and relationships, despite his age his list of past loves was only one but more often than most that was not the case for most. The struggle in Sariah’s voice to find the words pulled at his heart as he listened to her short explanation which caused a lot of pieces to fall into place. He felt his hands clench at his sides not due to their being others in the past, since anyone would be lucky to have Sariah in their life, but due to the pain he heard in those words. Releasing the taunt grip of his hands he reached out to gently caressed her cheek a small smile on his lips, “Bad people have a way of finding those who are good and diminishing their light but you’re better and stronger than they will ever be and you deserve so much more than that.” The fierce feeling of protection roared to the surface but he had to keep it locked down, he couldn’t change the past but he could let her know every day that she was special to him. It didn’t matter how the rest of the world view her, she was the flower who dared to take the chance and reach  from the sun, blooming through the crack in the sidewalk where nothing else dared to grow. Her adversities and struggles having strengthened her to the person she was today.

Just that small bit of info opened up a whole new door of understanding for him. When you had people treat you poorly or who were bad for you it made you hesitant and slow to want to enter anything. After all despite the two knowing one another for over a year he had seen more than once that sometimes a person didn’t show their true self until they had trapped another in their web. Orion might not be the best person in the world but he was genuine and never anything other than himself, granted there were two side to what he was but he wasn’t two faced. “So I don’t have to worry about ten wedding boards on Pintrest then?” He teased lightly before being a bit more serious on the matter, “The very idea of opening myself up again and caring for someone else I might lose scares the hell out me Sariah, it’s terrifying in every way imaginable. I didn’t expect to get this point of even being able to take this step but the idea of taking these slow and easy steps with you doesn’t seem so terrifying and I will work with whatever pace you set because I don’t want to get ahead of myself either. I can’t swear to you that things won’t somehow fall apart but I can promise you that I will put in everything that I have to see how far this goes and to keep it from ending that way.” He had no idea what the future held but he wasn’t giving up on this easy that was for sure.

“No matter your lifespan I think life does tend to be shorter than you would like for it to be. Despite even the oldest of immortals, no one lives forever and we have to enjoy and make the most of the time we have.” A Therianthrope after all wasn’t too far off of a human as far as their life expectancy, mostly they just had a few more good years than most humans before they began to age towards being elderly and closer to death. A look of disbelief followed by a chuckle left him as she spoke of doing that once, “And yet it’s cute when you do it, with me it would be an instance of near mass destruction.” He jested since he had the feeling that with as much innovation that went on at the Organisation that they were bound to have a few oops moments.

“I don’t think I’d be that surprised, you’re young, beautiful and have a very interesting mind. I don’t know if everyone finds you as easy to talk to as I do but it’s becoming one of favorite ways to occupy my time as well.” Though he had the feeling Sariah wouldn’t appreciate him scheduling random meeting with her just to talk, after all that was what dates were for. A chuckle left him because she did have a pretty good point, most drunks only had the mental capacity to handle so much and if you overloaded their brain they would wander off and find someone else to bother. “Makes a lot of sense on why you like me then.” He mused in response to her comment about easy boring her since there was not a lot that was easy in their whole entire relationship but they both seemed determined to make it work or at least see were it lead them. “I think it might just take us more than one night to find our rhythm but we’ll get there.” He said as he felt the gentle pressure of her head leaning against his shoulder briefly before they focused on finishing up the task at hand.

Orion had to admit she fit pretty well in his arms and he could definitely get used to it. Therians were a lot like loyal dogs, the animal part of them wanted to be as close to those they cared about as possible like a loyal pet would follow around their owner and look for attention and admiration. The brush of a hand, an embrace it usually meant a lot more to a Therian than it did to most humans, especially when it came to scent. Most predatory species had a heighten sense of smell so sometimes touch was even used to just make sure your scent was on another to warn others away. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it had the opposite effect. His fox did move when he could smell his own scent lingering and mixing with Sariah’s, it was an odd comfort. “My parents were good people and honestly they just wanted to do good in the world, or at least our little corner of it. The private security firm was a front more than anything, a reason for us to legally be able to own and carry so many weapons but it was a legitimate business as well.” And they had been pretty good at it with a very positive reputation. “You never really talk about your parents much and honestly it’s almost hard to imagine you ever really needing anyone.” There was an undisputed aura of independence that clung to Sariah and it made him wonder exactly how long she had really been looking out for herself. After all just because parents were in the picture didn’t always mean they did actual parenting.

As the blonde asked if he had any inclination of what his children might want to be he couldn’t help but laugh. “I have no idea but hopefully nothing that has the propensity to get them killed. They’re both fierce and still hold a lot of pent up anger. What they’ll do with it I don’t know but I hope they’ll channel it into something constructive. That’s all any parent can hope for I guess. Anything they want to do though I’ll find a way to help and support them even though neither necessarily likes assistance.” That he was pretty sure they had gotten from him since Destiny wasn’t as hard headed as he was and knew she had bitten off more than she could chew. Though as her arms wrapped around his neck he couldn’t stop the smile from pulling at his lips, “You know, I never did get the opportunity to ask you for a dance the night we met.” He said referring to their current position. “Though I will admit that’s probably good since my dancing skills are more than a little rusty.” He teased.

The truth was that Sariah had never really explained the full extent of what happened with Noel to anyone. Sure, there were people who knew bits and pieces, her parents knew the bare minimum there was to know and they hadn’t really understood. The problem was it was hard to understand, why she had stayed so long, why she hadn’t known what was happening sooner, why she had chosen to forgive him for a lot of the things he did. Sariah leaned gently into his touch against her cheek feeling that little bit stronger just from him being there “I know that now” she responded with a gentle nod placing her hand on his arm firmly “But it started back when I was 17 and really didn’t know much about the world.” she had grown so much as a person since then, learned the kind of respect she deserved and didn’t get. “He...uh” she wasn’t sure exactly how to phrase it “He was very possessive and at first I thought I could handle it” somehow holding on to Orion helped to keep her grounding as she spoke.

“But um…” she could feel the memories spinning around in her head “It just kept getting worse, from telling my friends things that weren’t true to hacking my phone” now she recognized just how wrong all the things he did were but back then she had been so blinded by her feelings for him that it was impossible to draw a line “And before I knew it he had me all alone, cut off from everyone who could help” she sighed gently, mad at herself for not fighting back sooner. Her gaze flicked to his to gauge his reaction to what she was saying. His joke about Pinterest however seemed to wash away the pain she was feeling in that moment and smiled softly “I’m not sure whether to be offended that you think I’m ‘that girl’ or impressed that you know what Pinterest is” she responded with a smirk in his direction glad that he could make her feel a little less heavy.

She had to admit that she was glad that her fears were echoed in him, for different reasons of course but if was comforting all the same, talking to him about this felt much easier than she had expected it to “I uh..” she bit gently on her lip “I know you’re nothing like him but going through that gave me a certain level of doubt when it comes to relationships, it’s much better now than it ever used to be but..” she sighed “I’m very quick to expect the worst of people and I’m sorry I shut you out like that” and she was sorry, because talking to him the way they were now would have told her what she needed to know.

Sariah was definitely an advocate for the live while you’re here mentality, there were loads of things she still wanted to do however, she wanted to travel, she wanted to learn to ice skate, she wanted a family of her own one day so she could be there for her kids like her parents weren’t for her. Obviously a lot of that was a long way away for her but she had a lot planned to fit into her life between her work. Sariah laughed and shrugged “I’m sure all my colleagues stuck waiting in the rain while they triple checked the labs didn’t think it was cute” she smiled softly no progress was ever made without a few mistakes along the way.

Sariah chuckled softly as she thought of all the random unscheduled times the two of them had seen each other “Well that does explain all of the unexpected 2 o’clocks” she admitted with a smirk, a bit of a running joke was that they always seemed to run into one another. Sariah nodded softly “I think someone like you will really challenge me to rise to be the best version of myself” she admitted with a tilt of her head “You’re brave and fiercely loyal, you’d rather die than let someone down” there was so many things she liked about him as a person, he was such a good person, better than most of the people she had known throughout her life.

For the longest time Sariah had associated being held in an embrace as constricting, at times it had made her feel like she couldn’t breathe, it was why she had pushed so many people away, she had needed time and she thought she had lost the part of her that desired to be close to someone. But as she felt his arms wrapped around her, holding her close to his body and her entire being felt enveloped in him she didn’t feel trapped, she felt safe and supported, like if she fell he would catch her. The blonde kept her eyes on his, noting the blue depths to them that she almost felt like she could completely lose herself in “I think your parents would be very proud of the man you are now” she spoke with complete confidence, his family sounded like brave and powerful people and he fit that description well, she imagined if his family could look at his life they would be proud of the choices he made. Sariah nodded softly in agreement with his statement “You’re right, a girl eventually learns to be her own hero” she smiled gently, she was also proud of the person she had become in spite of her demons “I’ve always done better on my own, leading my own path” but taking this step was her taking a very large leap into the realm of relying on someone else “But I think I’m ready to find out what it’s like to need someone” she admitted as her gaze moved back up to meet his.

Sariah was glad that he was so supportive of what his children wanted to do with their lives, often parents were overbearing when it came to their hopes and dreams for their kids but there was a line where you had to let them find their own way. “They’re lucky to have you” she admitted with a nod, at times she wished her parents had been a little more supportive of the choices she had made but they had always been there if she needed them. His teasing brought a smirk to her lips “You see Orion, there’s something you’ll learn quickly about me” she whispered the words softly her fingers twirling around the hair at the back of his head “I am prepared for near everything” she laughed and winked before she spoke again “Alexa, play Unspoken by Welshly Arms” she chuckled softly as the device sparked into life and started to softly play the music in the background. She looked up at Orion and smiled softly “I’m hardly a dancer myself but we can sway and pretend we know what we’re doing” she suggested with a laugh.

There was an odd sense of cold which seemed to tickle down his spine knowing he wasn’t going to like the words to come or the explanation given. There was no way to erase the past but he did wish he could help her forget the memories which haunted her, memories no seventeen year old young woman should ever be saddled with. At seventeen you were finally beginning to figure yourself out and love was a concept you believe that you understood so to have someone twist and pervert it stuck with you and likely make you question everyone and their motives. The feeling of her warm hand on his arm and the gentle pressure was the only thing that stifled the growl which seemed to be building in his throat, not a growl at her but for her. It still surprised him the resiliency of now only humans but all species to be able to go through such events and come out the other side better and wiser than before. Though he was still of the believe that all men like should have the tables turned and be the one made to feel trapped and helpless.

It was sick that so many with that mindset believed themselves to be alpha males when there was a difference between alpha males, Alphas and just plan assholes. “No one should have to handle situations or people like that. I know there will always be people like that in the world pretending to be like everyone else until they sink their claws in but I wish that wasn’t the case.” It reminded him greatly of Elijah and the many Alphas like him, Alphas Orion could do nothing about. It reminded him of exactly why he had been willing to temporarily put aside all of his beliefs in a better future and just end the problem at hand regardless of it being the wrong call. “I always saw you a strong but I hadn’t realized how deep it ran.” He said softly with a bit of a sigh as he leaned forward and kissed her forehead. Thankfully it took a softer and less serious tone and he couldn’t help but chuckle, “At this point I would probably just be impressed I know what it is and what it does. Though I think everyone tends to have at least a bit of vague idea of what they would want from a wedding, gender doesn’t really factor into that. Granted for men it’s likely food and an open bar.” He jested sending a wink in her direction.

Tonight they were both gaining greater insight and after the way he handled things with Elijah he couldn’t really blame her for seeing the worst in him. Especially after he had done so much to push for their to be a different, less violent way to deal with problems. It had been a view of the darker nature he did in fact posses deep inside, it was never anything he had ever brought out except for desperate times and circumstances but he was sure it had been enough to set Sariah on edge and for her warning alarms to go off. “I’m far from perfect Sariah and can’t say that in the future my decisions won’t leave you questioning but I want nothing more than just to be around you the way you are. Birds aren’t meant to be caged and no woman is meant to be controlled or possessed. You’re a human being and a rather amazing one.” He said with a soft smile

A chuckle left him as he met her gaze, “It seemed safer than asking you on a date since no matter your age the fear of rejection is still there. Besides I rather enjoyed seeing the way you composed yourself in professional situations.” And maybe pushing those limits a bit if he were being honest but it had been rather entertaining. Shock washed over his expression for a moment before it shifted to an expression of gentle acceptance, “Funny since I see those same virtues in you. No coward would stand up to the Council and demand and extension for extra testing for the benefit of species not their own. Even when you would have rather knocked me upside the head than helped you still saved my life so I appreciate the acknowledge of those traits but you possess them already. I do think we both lend our better qualities to one another.” He knew her presence and personality was affecting him in a positive way and helping him to make better choices in his life, for his faction and the city as a whole.

It had been a long time since he held a woman in his embrace, the idea had at first felt like he was somehow cheating on Destiny but that wasn’t the way it was. Orion cared about Sariah more than he thought was possible when they had first met and he wanted to support and protect her not confine her. Sariah was the sort who didn’t need anyone and he wasn’t here to be needed or replied on unless she needed to lean on him. He didn’t need to be what kept her standing but he would be there should she stumble. A flash of sadness crossed his expression at the mention of his parents but he did hope she was right. “At times I resented how hard they pushed me but years later I understood why. I think they would be proud of the choices I’ve made regardless of how much they go against the traditions we held.” Tradition had been important to his family but in the end it had been what caused their near extinction. He was the last of his generation and his children and nephews were the future and he hoped that he could change the way they thought before they ended up getting themselves killed to. The fact that Arwyn had gone back to that life hadn’t surprised him but it did terrify him since he couldn’t handle burying a child. “That’s fine, I’ve never really been good at the whole knight in furry armor thing. Tends to happen when you go for women who are independent and hardhead.” He teased lightly his expression softening at her words, “I don’t think you’ll ever need me Miss Independent, but I like the idea of you wanting me around.” And he really did since being wanted was far better than being needed.

“I think it’s more along the lines that I’m lucky to have them. They don’t really need me anymore, I think they just check in so I’m not lonely.” Which was fine by him since they were both adults and needed to be on their own two feet making their own lives. It wasn’t his place to tell them how to do that and all he could hope for was that they made good decisions. His brow rose at her words of being prepared before she spoke to the voice automated assistant before the music began to softly fill the apartment around them. “I promise not to step on your feet, that’s about the only promise I can give.” He replied with a soft chuckle as they began to sway to the music. “The last time I danced I think Sera was ten and it was a father daughter dance and she stood on my shoes the whole time.” He said smiling at the memory since she had been too big at the time to still be doing such things but he had never been able to deny her much.

The lyrics softly registered in his mind as he listened while they swayed before he gently took her hand and slowly spun her around before drawing her back to him. The two in their own little world able to be themselves with no fear of judgement unlike any public event where dozens of eyes would be on them. In truth he wasn’t sure he was ready to face the reality just yet but for tonight it was just the two of them. A chance to figure out how well this was going to work or if they should just go their separate ways. The mere thought of letting he go caused him to hold her tighter as they swayed since that wasn't something he ever wanted to happy and he wasn't sure exactly where that fierce feeling came from.

Sariah could almost sense what he was feeling, mostly because she felt the same thing herself, when she looked back on what she had been through she felt angry and she felt betrayed, she felt a little mad at herself when she remembered the choices she had made but mostly she utterly despised the man who put her in that position and held her there. The logical part of her knew that most people weren’t capable of nor wanted to do the things that Noel did, but that didn’t stop the irrational doubt from setting in every time she met someone new. “You and me both” she echoed his sentiment about wishing there weren’t people like that in the world, though a part of her also knew her path in life would likely be completely different had she not been through the things she had.

His words brought of a rush of pride to the surface as she leant into the gentle kiss he pressed against her forehead a sigh of happiness escaping her lips as he did so and her eyes closed for just a few seconds to wrap herself in the moment. There was something about Orion that had her holding on to every little detail. She smiled leaning her head gently on his shoulder as he talked about weddings and what people expected from them, Sariah had to admit she’d never really pictured herself the kind of girl who dreamed about her wedding, sure like he said, she had ideas of what she might want, but it had never been the first thing on her priority list either, she laughed as he followed it up “You know, food and an open bar does sound pretty appetizing” she responded with a laugh, it was one of the only reasons she attended most of the official city events.

What Sariah found so hard to stomach about what happened with Elijah was that Orion had been so focused on protecting her from danger he had taken her choice away from her. Whilst she knew his intentions in doing so were nothing like Noel’s were, the end result still left her feeling like she had no say in her own life, something she had lived with for far too long. She also knew that shutting him out the instant he made one mistake was going to be something she regretted for the rest of her life. His words however reassured her once more that his intentions were in the right place “Believe me there are going to be days where my decisions will drive you around the bend too” they were both leaders and being leaders meant making decisions others wouldn’t like, his words brought a smile to her lips “You’re not a half bad person yourself, though a little more furry” she teased as she nudged into his shoulder playfully.

Sariah couldn’t help but laugh as she thought about the times they had been skirting around the things they really wanted to say because they had to act professional, this felt so different to those days, she didn’t feel the need to hide the little things she did around him or the effect his proximity had on her. “I think you probably made the right call” considering how mad at him she had been shortly over what happened with Elijah she didn’t know if they would have made it to this night had it gone that way. The shock in his eyes was reflected as confusion in hers, wondering why he was so surprised she saw him that way. His words however brought a content smile to the blonde’s lips, understanding what he meant entirely, she could already feel herself wanting to be the best version of herself around him and she hoped to bring the same out in him “Isn’t that what they say to look for?” she asked a little vaguely before she clarified herself “Someone who makes you want to be a better person” the look she shared with him was one of mutual understanding, she was confident in that at least.

Sariah had to admit that this was complicated, especially now that she knew the depth of Orion and Destiny’s relationship, she couldn’t even imagine how impossible it had been for him to keep pushing forward after experiencing such a loss as that but he did. Little things like this however, just somehow felt right and didn’t need so much thought, she knew she could stay in his arms for hours and be perfectly content there. He was right though, Sariah didn’t think she would ever allow herself to be in the position where she couldn’t go on without someone else, giving anyone that level of power was something she was sure not many people would ever be willing to hand over. “I think we all resent some aspect of our upbringing, for me it was that my parents weren’t interested in being around” she shrugged, it was what it was and she had done okay alone. “But at the end of the day, they are your parents and in most cases they want the best for you” she believed that, even if they had weird ways of showing it.

Sariah laughed and shrugged her shoulders “I feel like a child always needs their parents, just in different ways as life goes on” she nodded softly, she had to admit that when she was having the worst day and all she wanted to do was cry, the first person she wanted to speak to was her mom. Sariah took a deep breath as the music came to life, allowing the soft piano to flow through her as she giggled at his promise “That’s more than enough for me” she swayed in relative time to the music whilst she looked up at him, her eyes not leaving his as she listening to him talk “I was never really taught, I just kinda go with it” she smiled softly knowing just how precious such a memory held, her mind picturing a younger version of the blue eyed kitsune spinning around the dancefloor with his dark haired princess.

Sariah was surprised when she felt his hand in hers and she twirled around a little faster than expected, as she came back she put her other hand out to slow herself down pressing it firmly against his chest and the rabbit in the headlights look she knew was on her face caused her to erupt into laughter, she didn’t think she had ever laughed quite this much in one night before. It was proving to be rollercoaster of emotions between them but one felt felt in control of, excited perhaps to see where the twists and turns would take them. Lowering her hand slowly she wrapped it around his waist before leaning forwards to press her head against his chest her face buried into his shoulder as she did so “I think I’ll always remember this night” she murmured softly as she closed her eyes wrapped up in his touch and the music which echoed through the room.

A small nodded left him at her simple reply since there wasn’t much else to say on that matter that wouldn’t rip those wounds open farther or cause her distress which wasn’t what tonight was meant to be. Granted he wasn’t really sure what tonight was meant to be other then the turning point of what was between them as they placed everything out on the table, the good and the bad. Their pasts had molded them to the people they were today but that didn’t always mean you wanted to look back on what had happened. Words could only do so much to sooth the past but they were all he had along with the promise of never being that sort of man. The subject change was easy enough and one which was much lighter and more teasing since weddings weren’t something he tended to think about often or really at all unless he was invited to one which was a rare occasion. “Free food and an open bar are about all you need to put on anything for people to be more willing to attend, wedding or not.” He mused shaking his head with a small laugh. “I’m pretty sure that’s how a lot of the events I do security for end up with RSVPs and actual people in attends, it’s a strong motivator.”

At least the two of them both seemed to know they weren’t always going to agree or disagree since no one agreed with another all the time. There would be times when the actions of the other would grate on their nerves of Orion would want to help Sariah and keep her safe but that should be her choice not his own. With Elijah he had just acted taking all choice away from her for what he had considered her own good but was it very truly that simple? No. “Well I’m glad was can at least agree on that and hopefully move past whatever decisions are made. If we can move past Elijah I can’t imagine many other decisions before anywhere near that large.” Or serious with such intense repercussions which he was still trying to sort out. “More like warm and fuzzy but I guess I have my furry moments at least once a month.” He joked since no Therian could resist the shift and he honestly enjoyed running free on all fours when he got the chance.

There was no doubt in his mind that giving Sariah space had been the right call, he had to say that married life had trained him well in that aspect. The best bet was always to allow a woman to calm and have their space to think since pushing them or making your presence noticeable when they weren’t ready was unwise. “I may not often make the right call but backing off is never exactly a bad thing. Especially when a woman is mad at you. All the cards, flowers and candy in the world can’t fix everything and space and time is about all that does in some instances.” At least she hadn’t thrown anything at him or ended their alliance, so he considered that a win. “I think that is what they say, find someone who accepts the bad and increases the good and maybe even lessens the bad. I maybe over protective and jump to conclusions at times but I do mean well and have the best intentions. Sometimes those intensions just don’t come out as intended.” He replied with a slight sigh since he knew that was unlikely to completely change but he could change or alter the way he went about different things.

All he had ever wanted in life was to be a good man, then a good husband and father. None of those goals had necessarily changed they had just shifted since one had been taken out of the equation but if she’d let him he did want to a good boyfriend. Though the very word boyfriend was a bit offensive since he was far from a boy these days. Granted that was due in a very large part to Destiny and his children. “As children we have no idea what’s best for us and things we resented at the time we sometimes become grateful for later even if it was disinterest. I doubt you be the person you are today if your parents have been over your shoulder pushing your towards a different path all your life. And I likely wouldn’t be here today so I can’t really complain since I feel I’ve had a pretty good life and most parents do just want the best for us even if they don’t know what that is or how to go about it.” Which was why he gave his children so much freedom, no one fit into a box and they were both at the point where they knew what would be the best for them. Or could at least figure it out themselves.

The Kitsune imaged that Sariah was likely right about that, if they didn’t then Arwyn wouldn’t have returned home to Evermore. Even if it wasn’t exactly a home his son knew, it was the people, love and understand that made feel like home. “True, they tend to need us less but home is always where you want to go when things get bad or you’ve had a bad day. Sometimes it isn’t even about going home but just being with your parents or those you love.” He knew Sera often called or dropped by when she was feeling low though she was under the impression he didn’t know she was the way since she was rather good with hiding her emotions just not from him. “I do have to say, dancing was one of those one off things my parents taught me for no apparent reason at the time. Of course, I was grateful for it at my first school dance so I didn’t look like a fool.” Though that had been a life time ago. “Sometimes going with it is the best thing you can do, kind of like with life.”

Much as he had done in her life, he took her by obvious surprise as she twirled her a chuckle leaving him as she pressed her hand against his chest to regain her balance and equilibrium. They both ended up laughing rather hard over the whole thing, especially the endearing expression of utter shock on Sariah’s features. “I figured that since I’ve already done so well at taking you by surprise in life there was no reason to stop.” His eyes slowly slid closed as she wrapped her arms around his waist and leaned against his chest a content sigh leaving him. “So, how’s that second date looking so far?” He asked a wide smirk on his face his eyes crinkling around the edges, “I mean it may not have been a traditional date so far but it’s very much us and one I don’t think I’ll ever forget either.” So far it was already making it’s way into that little box of memories he considered priceless and precious.

Sariah chuckled thinking ironically about the first place they had met and how she had been swayed to attend the event by the fact that it would mean she didn’t need to cook or pay for drinks that evening. “In a world of people who prefer to stay in their own homes it really does take a lot to get us out” she laughed, she was guilty of wanting to stay home most nights, she much preferred spending her evening watching Netflix than she did drinking at a bar with people she didn’t know.

Sariah didn’t think she would ever agree with the decisions Orion had made when it came to Elijah but what she had now was perspective as to why he made the decisions he did, she knew there were times when the two of them would fight over decisions the other made, especially when it came down to their safety but both their jobs were high risk and she had to learn to accept more often. “When you put it like that” she allowed a half smile to cross her lips “It doesn’t sound so scary” of course it still was but with small steps, perhaps their differences would pull closer.

His words about once a month caused a chuckle to escape her lips “Being human surrounded by the supernatural, I just can’t even imagine what it’s like to be one” as a scientist that frustrated her no end, not being able to understand what it really felt like to be supernatural. Sariah was endlessly curious and knowing she would never truly understand did bug her more than she thought it would. Sariah was inclined to agree with his thoughts on how to resolve conflict, when her emotions ran high she found it hard enough to talk herself down, let alone if the person who had frustrated her in the first place was still around, sometimes an apology could make things feel worse rather than better.

Sariah was a forgiving person though, she hated the idea of shutting people out forever, even if she was tempted to do so on occasion, some may argue that lead to her giving people too many chances but it wasn’t in her nature to just give up. She nodded in response to his words “I understand that now” she clarified, sometimes someone’s actions felt completely irrational until you understood the motivation for their decisions and Sariah had to admit losing his family must have shaped him more than other experiences he had been through.

His words about parents rang true with her, Sariah had done her best not to complain about her upbringing because she had never had a hard life. Yes her parents could have spent more time with her but yes, that would have likely changed the way her life played out. Sariah couldn’t say she wanted her life to be different from the way it was now, she had more than she could have ever hoped for, a job which allowed her to make a difference to the world, friends who stood by her and respected her and perhaps even a future with the man in front of her. “I don’t think there’s any single best way to raise another person” she admitted with a nod “all a parent can really do is their best” she shrugged and smiled she had no doubts her parents would be there for her when she really needed them to be and that was all that really mattered.

“You know, the thing about dancing” she allowed an amused smile to cross her lips “It doesn’t matter how good or bad you are at it, as long as you’re having fun then who cares” she laughed realizing it sounded cheesy but she really believed it. The world was filled with people who will take every chance they get to judge you or put you in a box but she had learned that you didn’t have to let it affect you and their opinions only matters as much as you allowed them to. Besides, there wasn’t anyone to tell them any different in this little bubble they had built for themselves in her kitchen.

Sariah had to admit she liked the way Orion kept surprising her, it was thrilling in a make your head spin and your body feel lighter kind of way. She found herself laughing like a total idiot teenager would and she shook her head a little at herself, what was it about him that took all reason and logic from her mind and replaced it with babbling. His question bright a smirk to her lips too as she slowly pulled back to look up at him “Hmm…” she drew the sound out as she leaned in closer to him her eyes dropping to his lips and then back up to meet his cerulean gaze once more “I feel like there’s one last thing I need to be sure” she teased as she leaned up to press her lips against his softly.

It was clear that neither were the go out to bars in order to socialize and met people types. Orion was much too old or as he liked to think, mature to attempt the bar scene and it didn’t seem likely that was the sort of place Sariah frequented. It was it mere coincidence and chance that they met at the event instead of City Hall or some professional and stuffy meeting. Honestly he wouldn’t change their very unique meeting for anything. “Events wouldn’t be my scene if it weren’t for either working them or attending due to Ambassador duties. I wouldn’t say I’m a homebody but I’m not necessarily comfortable in crowds when I don’t have to be in them.” For both of occupations he was always willing to make an exception though.

Everyone had to have different views and opinions in order to make life interesting and Orion would always respect Sariah’s even if he couldn’t hold to them. “I can’t promise that I won’t always try to put your first and protect you but I will try to do it in a way you agree with if possible.” After all it was in his nature to be protective over those close to him and other than family, Sariah was getting as close as it got. “I firmly believe if we keep an open line of communication we can overcome whatever crosses out path. Who knows, I might even learn to compromise.” He said teasing her gently since he was sure there would be a lot of that to come.

A smile curved his lips as she laughed at his rather cheesy joke but sometimes he couldn’t help himself and he did love to make her smile and laugh. “Which is ironic since most supernatural species have some idea of what it’s like to be human. Most of us starting out that way until we hit puberty or maturity.” He tried to think of a good way to explain to Sariah what it was like but every species was different which make it difficult to explain. “So at least for the heightened senses of some it’s easy to think of in the say way you think of hearing a train or car coming, it gradually gets louder the closer it get, we just tend to hear it farther back. With sight it’s kind of the same way and touch for some can become incredibly sensitive. For Therians the biggest difference is we can call on our animal side and transform at will but it’s a painful process that lessened over time but the pain is still always there. At first it’s excruciating and feels like your body is being ripped apart since it is as it forms into something else entirely.” It was the best explanation he could think to give since closer to the full moon it began to feel like your skin was growing tighter and all you wanted to do was break free.

It was nice to be able to have such an open conversation and forget about what the rest of the world thought or saw. There were many things they saw eye to eye on and others they disagreed with and he enjoyed the chance they had to find out those things. “Everyone is different and every parent is different. I can’t say that I treat my son and daughter the same since that would be a lie. They both have different goals and personalities and I just want them to know I’ll always be here for them. As long as I have a home so will they no matter how far they travel and I think that’s important.” He nodded in agreement as she spoke of parents only really being able to do their best which was true and you just had to hope your best was enough.

A brow rose as he hung on her every word curious as to what she had to say. A chuckle rumbled through him at her words since he did had to agree. “Why does it have to be good or bad? I can’t imagine either of us is aiming towards the next season of Dancing with the Ambassadors.” He jested leaning in to whisper in her ear, “It wouldn’t be nearly as fun to dance without you.” Granted Sera still swore by random dance parties and they were the best way to get you excited. Some how he could imagine Sariah might do the same from time to time. The mental image of that alone caused him to laugh, “Now I’m wondering what other kind of dance moves you have. Maybe a little something from the 90s.” He teased.

There were no expectations, no hidden agendas, it was just the two of them enjoying an amazing night and he completely gave into that one hundred percent. The sound of her laughter wrapping around him and making him feel light and happy, unable to contain his own laughter as well. He knew the night would have to end at some point but he was doing his best not to focus on that and instead the feeling of the woman in his arms. “Hmm?” He asked with a raised brow since that was the initial answer he got to his teasing question the smile never leaving his lips knowing she had something planned in that head of hers. He followed watched as her gaze shifted focus and he leaned down ever so slightly. Opening his mouth he started to question that one last thing before he realize what she meant and leaned down meeting her halfway his hand tightening slightly on her hips as he pulled her closer into him. Everything thought rushed from his mind as his focus was solely on the woman in his arms. One he didn’t want to scare away.

Sariah could relate to that, she was very much an introvert at her core, preferring the company of one over getting lost in a crowd, she was a very devoted and loyal person but only to a few that she dared let in, she didn’t think she would be able to keep up with having dozens of friends. “Some of them have their allure” she responded with a smile, charity events were especially at her heart because she enjoyed feeling like she could make a difference. Not to mention there were parts of events she loved, such as dancing the night away without a care in the world “But you’re right, most of them are stuffy and boring” she wrinkled her nose.

That was all that Sariah had asked for the last time, she certainly wasn’t the first person to put herself in the line of fire, she wasn’t reckless nor did she have a death wish, but watching helplessly as he laid down his life without even trying another way was enough to tear her inside out. “You should remember that I’m a lot tougher than I look Valkyrie” she wasn’t born a fighter but life had made her into one and she even surprised herself with her resilience. She nodded in response to his words about communication, as long as they didn’t shut one another out she was sure they could figure the rest out. “Maybe I’ll learn not to talk so much that people can’t get a word in edgeways” she laughed softly, okay they both had things to work on.

Sariah listened to the way he described what he was, she had heard similar descriptions before and they made sense to her, rationally everything made sense but she guessed she would always feel like she was missing the experience, like how someone who had never been on a roller coaster would never understand the thrill of zooming through the air or the way your stomach lurched on the big drops. She grimaced a little realizing that not all of it was positive however, after all a therianthrope broke every bone in their body when they turned into their animal side, she imagined that hurt more than she could even fathom. “I’m content with what I am” she clarified “But it’s fascinating to see such diversity in the world, like the very skin you’re in would somehow feel different” she smiled, to her, being supernatural was not a bad thing, unlike the opinion of a lot of humans “I always wonder if I’m not feeling things to their full extent, since most supernatural species have such heightened senses” she shrugged, she wouldn’t give up being human but if she had the chance to know for just a day, she would probably take it.

Sariah couldn’t even imagine what she would be like as a parent, it had never been the top of her list. That didn’t mean she hated kids by any means but more that she had so much she wanted to achieve with her life before she moved on to raising someone else. Orion seemed like a more modern parent than most to her, he was very patient and understanding with his children, even when she could tell his worry for them was off the charts. Giving them the freedom to become the people they truly wanted to be. Her parents were similar in that way, they never forced her to be anything she wasn’t, supportive in a distant sense. “I’m sure they appreciate not having to question your support for them” she commented with a nod and then smiled “They’re both great people, you should be proud” she looked forward to getting to know both of them better, regardless of how weird the situation that followed tonight might be.

Sariah snapped her fingers in response to his quip about dancing with the ambassadors “Damn, I totally thought we could give Cornelia and Gideon a run for their money” she laughed as she tilted her head a little as she felt his breath against her ear, the blonde resisted the urge to shiver at the intimacy of the moment. She snapped out of it when he laughed and a confused frown took over her expression. His words caused her to smirk “Guess you’ll have to stick around to find out” she teased back with a chuckle, she had to admit she was that girl that would dance on her lonesome in the middle of a dancefloor if the music was decent, she had no shame when it came to dancing.

It felt good to be here in the moment without having to worry about details, it wasn’t some confusing alliance, it wasn’t two political figures having a debate. It was just them, the sides of them she was sure most didn’t get to see and she had to admit, she liked this side of him, the part she had seen mostly since the day she met him. The kiss started gentle, reaching on the top of her toes to meet his lips but as he pulled her closer she reached up again her arms tangling behind his neck as she deepened the kiss. Her mind was spinning, feeling wrapped up in everything about him, his soft masculine scent and the way his hands felt against her body, the way he desperately pulled her closer like no amount of distance was welcome.

Breathlessly she broke the kiss for just a moment to look up at him “Okay, I think you have me sold” she murmured softly as she drew close once more.

The other reason Orion didn’t like crowds was too many smells and emotions, bars and clubs were the worst. Events tended to be a little more lowkey with less harsh scents and not as many desperate emotions which was good. When Sariah was around it was easier not to focus on everything else, the scents seeming to disappear when all he could smell or focus on was her. “It is hard to turn down a good cause or good company is involved.” He responded with a chuckle since either of those made an evening or events more tolerable. “Stuffy and boring is only helped by alcohol at that point or really good food.”

Orion didn’t want to do anything that would place what he and Sariah had in jeopardy. Not again if he could help it. The two were going to have to trust one another and their abilities to protect themselves and the city. She was fully capable of handling herself and he needed to let her, “Oh I know you are Holloway.” He teased softly which a bit of a chuckle since he had seen that fighting spirit first hand. That fire in her eyes when it came to self-preservation and helping another. He didn’t want to lose her due to his stupidity and over protective nature though she he would have to remind himself to give her space. “I don’t know, I like that endearing rambling quality about you.” He jested with a smirk since he did rather enjoy the fact that he never knew what she might say.

The pain of the transformation didn’t bother Orion as much as it once had but there was still that dull ache that he could mostly push aside but someone full moons were harder than others depending on where the last transformation was. It was hard to fully explain and he knew Sariah’s scientific mind was already working on wrapping around what he was saying. “I’m rather content on what I am too. Other than the fact that fox noises don’t exactly strike fear into the heart of many since they’re almost cartoon like in sound.” A chuckle left him as he shook his head thinking of the yipping like noises that foxes make. “Having heightened sense can be a bad thing while in crowds or around bad smells. Every person has their own unique scent which clings to their skin and every emotion causes a chemical reaction which changes that scent. Fear, anxiety and pain having a bitter and sharp edge to them while happiness, love, amusement have almost an airiness to brightness to them, it’s hard to really explain.” It was like trying to explain a certain color to a blind person or a certain sound to the deaf, you knew it because you experienced it but explaining it was almost impossible. “If you ever accidentally use that blinding serum on yourself it would give you a vague idea since the rest of your senses would increase to make up for your lack of sight but being blind even temporarily is kind of scary.” He admitted remembering well his short time without vision.

Being a parent was one of the most difficult and most rewarding things he had ever done with his life. Even when his children had been frustrating beyond belief and he wanted to trade them in for a pack of gum he did love them. He assumed that was how every parent felt from time to time but he never would have actually traded them for anything in the world. All he wanted for them was the best and the freedom to be what they wanted to be without the fear of him judging them for it or being unsupportive. Between his son and daughter and then his two nephews they were all that was left of a once proud pack. “I’m always proud of them but they deserve the credit for how they’ve turned out. Their free will and choices are what shaped them, I’ve just tried to point them towards a better path than the one that’s all but wiped us out.” He knew Arwyn and Sera still have anger and vengeance in their hearts and may always have it but there was nothing he could do to change that. When all you’ve ever done is watch the people you love die it hardens you to life and makes it easy to give into vengeance and hate, that he knew first hand. “They’ve become pretty amazing adults. Who I’m sure would like to meet you.” He said biting the inside of his bottom lip unsure of how that comment would go over but if she was going to be a part of his life she would have to meet them.

Releasing his hold on the inside of lips he couldn’t help but chuckle. “Considering the vampire was born before most dances we may have a fighting chance since I doubt he’s been keeping up with those skills. I could be wrong though. At least we would be highly entertaining to watch.” He mused since even if they weren’t the most coordinated they were the type that never gave up. “I’ll just add another reason to the list then.” He teased since clearly he wouldn’t be going anywhere anytime soon and he did enjoy learning fun little facts about the human Ambassador. “Maybe you’ll teach me a few moves.” His whispered into her ear with a soft chuckle.

It was still mind blowing to him how one little human flipped his life on it’s head, again. Not that he could complain since it was the good kind of flip, the best kind really since it remind him of how he had once been. Less bitter, less angry and able to focus on the present instead of the past and it was a pretty good present too and the future wasn’t looking too bad. A smile curved his lip which were pressed against hers as she had to stand on her tiptoes to meet him. Her body was flush against his and still it didn’t feel like she was close enough but he didn’t want to scare her off. His hands moved from her hips to wrap around her waist holding her tight, the Kitsune allowed his emotions and instinct to guide him more than anything else lost in the moment until she pulled back and he couldn’t help but chuckle at her works. “I can be be pretty persuasive.” He mused softly her scent overwhelming him and branding itself in his memory forever.

He felt like a teenager since it had been a long time since he enjoyed the simple pleasure of just holding or kissing a woman. Even while married moments like that had become fleeting over the years especially when you had two kids and a war looming overhead.

Sariah had to admit the idea of going to events didn’t feel so daunting if someone she knew was going the be there. She liked being able to go out and meet with others, what she hated was feeling like she was surrounded by a room of strangers. She imagined while she might wonder what people thought about them, attending an event with Orion would be fun, especially because neither of them cared all that much for appearances. “True, plus the four walls of our home have to get boring eventually” admittedly for her that took a long time but it would happen eventually. “Mmmm preferably both” she mused in response to his words.

Not only was Sariah strong willed, she was also equipped with a massive backing that she could call upon if she was in trouble, from the organization to her tech to her allies in other factions, she had earned her right to be brave. “Then don’t forget it” she responded to his acknowledgement a knowing smile on her lips, it was easy to blinded by emotions, especially when you had deep set fear of losing people but at the same time, Sariah had been through hell and back with Noel and come through the other side. Sariah laughed as he complimented her rambling and smirked back in return “Probably for the best considering I have no idea where the off switch went” she teased back with a laugh, she was pretty sure it was a curse put in her mind to counterbalance her natural intelligence.

Sariah was definitely curious about the ways of therianthrope life but she was also content with them being simply stories and descriptions to her, despite knowing about the supernatural from a young age she had never craved to be one herself. She knew all too well that every blessing came with a curse and the options for a human meant living with the pain of turning or having to feed on human blood, neither of which she was willing to take on. She laughed as she thought about it, there had been a joke on the internet not long about about the sound a fox made because for the most part they were silent in real life “I think the eyes speak well enough on their own” she admitted remembering the two times she had seen Orion’s alpha eyes and the piercing weight they had seemed to place on her shoulders. Sariah was intrigued by the way a therianthrope could smell things such as emotions, it made her wonder what information she must give off without even realizing. Sariah chuckled reaching up to scratch the base of her neck as he spoke about the serum “Yeah I think I’ll take a hard pass on that one, my eyes are bad enough as it is” naturally she moved to push her glasses up on her nose before she realized she was wearing contact lenses today.

Sariah could respect his approach to parenting, his kids were now fully grown and he had watched them turn into fully fledged people with their own lives and ambitions, of course he would want the best for them but he was right, finding the best was only ever done yourself, no one can tell you what will make you happy. His words however caused her to quieten for a moment, she had to admit this was one of the parts that scared her most, being as young as she was, Sariah didn’t see herself as a mother figure at least not for several more years anyway. She was worried things would be awkward, not only because both of these people had lost their mother but because she was closer in age to them than Orion and she knew that might feel strange. Clearing her throat she went to speak “Suddenly I’m reminded of all the hard parts of this” she admitted, not wanting to lie to him about her perspective on all of this “If you think they can handle it then I’ll do my best to” she agreed, she just didn’t want to impose, especially when she knew Arwyn had been away for a long time.

Sariah couldn’t help but laugh as she imagined an actual situation where they were all competing in dance together wearing those ridiculously sparkly outfits and pretending they knew what the hell they were doing. “I think we could definitely solidify out spot as the underdogs” she proclaimed with a wink, after all the underdogs were the ones people really rooted for and in a way, she felt like that explained what they were well. An unlikely pair, who might just really work together. “There’s a list huh?” she jested as she leaned in closer to him a shiver rolling it’s way over her body as he spoke again softly against her ear.

Everything Sariah had done since she had come to Evermore was calculated, thought out. Joining the organization, every one of the projects she worked on, the time she spent with friends and the time she spent alone. Orion had however caught her off guard and knocked her off her feet from the night they met. She had never met someone who she felt so drawn to and yet frustrated her no end. Orion made Sariah question the very person she was and every decision she had made. She had originally set out to keep people at arms length but here she was enveloped in his strong and sturdy embrace. Her gaze remained on his as she felt both his hands on her hips, closing any possible distance between the two of them. His words brought a smile to her lips “I’m learning that” she responded before she leaned up to close the gap between them once again.

Just as she was about to press her lips against his again, knowing full well she could get lost in his kisses all night long, she was shocked to hear the chime from the grandfather clock in the hallway which rang out 11 times through the air bouncing off the walls around the. Sariah bit gently on her bottom lip letting out a gentle sigh as she leaned back for a moment “There you go stealing away all the time again” she teased speaking softly just a couple of inches from his lips “So what would this second date entail?” she questioned as she brought her hand up to caress the side of his face gently her thumb running over the stubble of his beard.
