The weather had decided to take a turn for the worst in Evermore city, the temperature dropped every day and people having to wear more and more layers to brave the cold outside as the winter took it's grip over everything. Argent wasn't the biggest fan of the cold and so she found herself dressed in a sweater and jeans with extra socks on as she wandered through the halls of the Ailward mansion. For the most part the place was pretty empty with many guards having been sent off on missions or spending their time shopping for the holidays. Argent was starting to realize she needed to get out more having spent the past 5 days cooped up in the mansion avoiding the cold and rain outside.
Today however wouldn't be the day she broke her streak as she wandered into one of the many different storage rooms in the manor. Argent enjoyed exploring all of the different things people kept in these rooms, especially because it felt like the inventory changed every day, guards and aspects alike dropping off the different things that took up too much space in their rooms or they no longer had any need for. It was in here that she had found her first book on mixology and many other inspirations for new hobbies and ways to while the hours away.
She was distracted as she moved through the different shelves moving things around to see if anything of interest stood out to her. There were many different boxes lined up on one of them, all different shapes, sizes and colors that fascinated, she started to open each one curious to see what was inside. In one she found some antique looking jewelry that she was pretty sure one of her sisters would have left. Argent however heard the sound of the door open as she opened the final box on the shelf and a bright cloud of smoke started escaping from the now opened container.
Without giving her so much as time to run or really react Argent felt the smoke fill up her lungs causing her to erupt in a loud fit of coughing, the smoke felt like it burned in her lungs and she was busy panicking internally in her mind as she wondered what magic she had just unleashed from this particular box but she didn't have long to process it as she felt her body start to shut down around her and her knees gave out from under her. She reached out to grab onto one of the shelves as she fell trying to keep herself from hitting her head as she felt herself give over to the darkness that seemed to be surrounding her from all directions.

Dominic mocked her words by mouthing them back silently as she helped him along, but immediately was met with karma as he burped a very unpleasant reminder that he'd just vomited not too long ago. He groaned slightly and wrapped his arm around his stomach in response to the nausea he was still feeling. This could almost be taken as a sign from the universe to tell him to stop drinking so much. Maybe. Nope.
He nodded lazily to his truck as he leaned on every car that happened to be parked nearby for balance. As she went to open the driver's side door, he quickly peaked over the front windshield at her from the passenger side before getting in. "Don't. Hurt. My. Baby." He wiggled a slender finger at her before sliding into the seat. Eyes closing for a moment at his uncomfortable state, he was immediately brought back to attention as the truck turned on. His hues glanced over to her as she adjusted the seat to sit up more properly than how he normally would slouch, her hands going to the school taught 10 and 2 o'clock position. "Oh my God, we're going to die," he groaned, leaning his head against the cool window glass. His eye caught the side mirror moving a bit which made him look behind the seat to the back windshield as he remembered an important detail she had just mentioned. "Do I need to get out of the truck to guide you while you reverse or is that just going to get me run over? I'd like to remind you if you do kill me, you're stuck in my body for eternity." As they backed out, he held his breath and he was sure she probably had too, but they had made it out safely without destroying anyone else's vehicle. More importantly his. Dom turned around in the seat and looked over to her with a snicker. "Good job, Red."
The drive couldn't have been any longer. Waves of nausea would still pass over him and he felt the color drain from his face as he tried to keep it together. Throwing up all over Malva's room would've been better than doing so in the cab. He lowered the window and let the cooler air come inside the truck, hoping it would help to keep him together. He inhaled deeply every few minutes before letting a shaky breath out through his mouth while repeating a certain mantra in his head to not puke. As if a small prayer was answered, Dom's eyes fell on a water bottle in the cupholder of the door which he quickly snatched and opened. He took a long gulp of the warm water and instantly felt a bit of relief.
A moment later and they were finally arriving at the apothecary which sat back off the road. Dominic had visited the place on a few occasions to grab ingredients for Malva as well as his good friend and mother figure Billie Mae. It was only known to people of the supernatural community which means you wouldn't find it with a quick search on Google. As they parked, he pushed open the door and stepped out onto the grass to stare at the establishment. It seemed to be the stereotype as if pulled from a fantasy movie as various smokes of different colors seemed to be wafting about and ivy growing over the entire building, making it hard to see the wood and brick that sat behind it. "Think they have anything in there for nausea and impending hangovers?"
"Aye, sure do," said a Scottish voice behind them which made Dominic jump in surprise as they turned around. An elderly man stood there, slightly hunched over with a long-haired gray cat in his arms who seemed to be judging Dominic as if he was the worst person who ever walked the earth. The man looked back and forth between he and Argent a few times before smiling wide. "Oh, my deary, look at you two. Well, that's quite the predicament, eh?"
Dom glanced over to the aspect and then back to the man. "That obvious?"
"A bit," he replied with a slight smirk before putting the cat down and shuffling passed them with his thumbs wrapped in his suspenders. The cat sat on the ground and stared at Dominic as he walked by making him feel like he should actually be threatened. The shopkeeper opened the door to the apothecary where a million different scents seemed to hit him in the face all at once, He immediately went to lean on the glass countertop so his senses could get a hold of themselves with the already problem of not vomiting again. "You just need a cup of white tea with barley and a tablespoon of octopus ink jelly."
"Octopus what?!" Dominic exclaimed, looking to the old man as he pulled at the different dusty glass bottles on the wooden shelving with items inside the lycan didn't want to guess at. "No. No way."
The shopkeeper busied himself at the stove as the water heated up in the kettle, mixing in different ingredients before walking over and lowering the ancient looking teacup in front of Dominic. "Drink up, laddie."
Dom stood up straighter and backed away slightly. "Not happening."
"Do ye want to feel better or not?" The elder pushed the cup along on the counter closer. "Go on."
A groan escaped Dominic's mouth as he picked up the dainty teacup and closed his eyes with a grimace, bringing the drink to his lips.
Argent wrinkled her nose as she watched him deal with the aftermath of choosing to drink too much, she wasn’t really looking forward to getting back in her own body just in time to get a hangover, she was trying her best not to think about that too much, nor the clothes he had gotten puke on or the fact he was wearing one of Malva’s outfits and she would possibly kill him...or her...for ruining it. She was a bit of a nervous driver and it definitely wasn’t helped by the fact that he was constantly panicking over her not hitting anything which made the likelihood of it happening so much higher. When he asked if he needed to get out she snapped for a moment “No, keep your ass still and stop distracting me” she warned him with a roll of her eyes as she adjusted the mirrors and then looked in them. It took her a couple of attempts to straighten the truck up as she turned out but she just about managed to do so without getting it scratched against one of the other vehicles in the garage. She let out a shaky breath once she was clear and then pulled off. It was a strange adjustment for her to be in a car so high up and the brakes were far less reactive than she was used to so she was pushing a bit harder than normal which caused a bit of a jolty ride but she got into the swing of it decently quickly.
When he told her she was doing a good job she shot him a look “Do me a favor Dom and don’t ever become a driving instructor” she teased with a shake of her head as she reached the front of the Ailward manor private road and looked out over the junction and pulled out onto the road. She was doing her best to focus on the road and keeping a steady and smooth drive but she definitely noticed the fact that he was struggling to hold himself together. If it was her car she wouldn’t have cared if he threw up, it could easily be cleaned up right? Or just replaced if really needed but she sensed there was a lot of sentimental value in this truck for him. She continued the drive, she’d never been to this herb shop herself but she knew its location because Mal often raved about it, they always had the rare herbs she needed, the aspect of magic had raved about it before. It was a long shot that she’d be there but long shots were all they really had at the moment.
When they finally did pull up she did so with a bit of a jolty finish but she managed to get them there without killing them both or wrapping them around a lampost so she was calling it a win. She let out a relieved breath as she switched off the ignition and shook her head a little “Add driving your truck to the things I didn’t think I’d be doing today. Just as she was leaning to climb out of the cab door she forgot how tall she was in this body and smacked her forehead hard against the top of the frame. Her hand instantly went against her head and she felt blood ooze from the gash she’d just given herself “Aw fuck” she cursed as she wiped it away and closed the door behind her locking it “Can we add a painkiller to the list?” she asked as she looked down at her bloody hand...or well...Dom’s bloody hand. She gave him an apologetic smile.
Before they could finish speaking among themselves they were interrupted by the Scottish male’s voice which made Argent let a little chirp of surprise which sounded utterly hilarious coming from Dominic’s gruff voice and she had to stifle the laugh she wanted to give as she turned around to see the elderly man. She saw the little grey cat in the man’s arms and her smile lit up a little, she loved animals so much and the kitty was so well behaved. The moment the male detected what was going on with them instantly she breathed a bit of a sigh of relief because now she wouldn’t sound like a completely insane person trying to explain what happened.
Noting the way the cat was staring at Dom like it was about to launch itself at any moment she glanced over at the male, who she still hasn't adjusted to seeing in her own body and narrowed her eyes a little “Stay away from the kitty Dom, scratch marks do not go well with $150 shoes” she warned him looking down at the boots he had taken from Malva’s closet, she was not taking the blame for that one, especially because they were limited edition and irreplaceable. She leaned down to scratch the creature behind the ears as it rubbed up against her hand and she smiled softly, funny that she was in a therianthrope body and yet the cat could still sense she wasn’t one.
Once they were done she looked over at the Scottish male and smiled softly “You may know my sister, Malva?” she suggested to which he immediately responded that he knew her sister quite well and that she was one of his favorite customers. That surprised Argent who arched her brow over at Dominic for a moment “You have interesting taste in customers” Argent spoke softly as she looked over the shelves of herbs fascinated by the sheer amount of them “Could you tell us the last time you saw her? This….current predicament seems to be here doing and I really want my own body back before” there was a slight pout to her lips as she looked between Dom and the store owner.
As he moved the cup closer to his face, Dominic half considered if maybe dealing with this nausea would be better than having to swallow the contents of this pungent concoction. The fact that whatever it was he was about to drink was bubbling wasn't exactly helping the case for drinking it either. Sighing, the therian was somewhat thankful that his usual overpowered sense of smell was gone now that he was about to do the unthinkable.
The brown liquid was thicker than he expected but he took it down pretending it was a double shot of one of this favorite dark rums. He quickly put the cup down on the counter as his body immediately shuttered from head to toe involuntarily. Small goosebumps began to form on the pale skin that now belonged to him and he shook himself out. He ran his tongue over his teeth in some attempts to get the flavor from lingering in his mouth any longer than was necessary, wishing he rationed that bottle of water he found in the truck. He was just about to ask the man how long it would take for the drink to start working when he realized in all his fuss about how badly it tasted, he didn't stop and notice it was having immediate effects.
The weakness he was feeling was starting to dissipate and the nausea had subsided immensely. "Holy sh..." Dominic softly said, but on cue the old man patted him quickly on the back before he could finish his statement of surprise looking rather smugly and putting a glass of water down with an inviting nod. He reached for the cup without hesitation just as the cat jumped on the counter and took a swing at his hand. Dom glared back in response and looked to the other two who were talking among themselves to make sure they hadn't noticed him in a locked battle with a much smaller creature. After a few back and forths, he finally took the glass and stuck his tongue out at the cat before taking a large gulp of the water. The cat jumped down and disappeared among the many cases around the store, leaving him and the mess of spilled water behind. He quickly used his sleeve to wipe up the drops, noticing the spots that had landed on Malva's shoes. 'Well, they aren't scratch marks...' he thought, remembering Argent's earlier threat.
His ears suddenly perked up when the shopkeeper had mentioned Malva was one of his favorite customers. Perhaps he was right in thinking she'd come around to pick up more ingredients to perform whatever spell it was she was planning on that had gotten him mixed up in going to Washington. He looked to Argent at the same moment she looked to him, knowing they were possibly getting a good lead. Before he could get the chance to ask if the elder had seen the missing Ailward, Argent was right on top of it. He couldn't help but notice how she trailed off before finishing her sentence. "Before? Before what?" Dominic's brow furrowed as he tried to find her gaze as if there was a way to figure out her meaning without the words she wasn't saying aloud. He looked to the owner who seemed to be in on whatever it was Argent was thinking and he was suddenly feeling rather out of the loop. A moment of silence fell between the trio before a thought crossed his mind. A thought that he hoped wasn't what they also were thinking. "Wait.. your not saying we could possibly be stuck like this forever, right?!" His frenzied gaze looked between them both as he could hear his unfamiliar, airy voice rising an octave. "Oh, that's just great!" He threw his arms up in frustration, turning away from them and catching his reflection in a glass case that sat against the wall. He wondered if this was the reflection he would possibly be looking at for the rest of his life. A shaky breath passed through his lips and he turned around to face them again.
"I did see the miss earlier in the mornin'. She had quite the list of ingredients, but there was a rare one on it that I didn't have," he answered while staring at the ceiling in recollection and pulling on his suspenders.
"And did she say where she would be going for said rare ingredient?" Dominic asked feeling the impatience rising in him. As if it could read his thoughts, the cat appeared again from out of nowhere to hiss at him for thinking ill of its owner.
"Aye, laddie, she was looking for the scale of one of the first born dragons."
There was silence that fell over the shop again and Dom shook his head as if he hadn't heard the man properly. "I'm sorry, what now?"
"You heard correctly. One of the first born dragons in our world. Nearly impossible to find, but if you know someone on the black market, you may be able to track a seller who is in possession of one." The bell to the shop chimed as a young woman came in and began to browse the rows after nodding with a shy smile to them as if she realized she had been interrupting something rather private. The shopkeeper turned to them in a hushed voice. "I would be careful if you do go looking for such trouble. Those dealers are not exactly on the law abiding side of Evermore." The man gave them a farewell nod before heading off to help his new customer.
Dominic walked over to Argent, folding his arms over his chest, but immediately dropping them when the normal gesture felt totally wrong now. "First dragons?" He kept his voice at a whisper, trying to read her face while this new information came to light. Dominic was fairly learned when it came to the history of the Ailwards and how they came to be in the world, but maybe not as well-informed as he thought when it came to the beginnings of how the immortal beings took on their dragon forms. "Do you think she is trying to summon one of the first Aspects?" He hadn't the faintest idea of why Malva would be doing such a thing, but more and more he was concerned with her dabbling in these ancient grimoires that seemed to be taking her to darker and more dangerous forms of magic. Dominic knew a lot of the shadier people in Evermore and if they were going to find Malva, they would have to take a trip into some possibly dangerous situations.
Argent had to admit, she couldn’t fault the guy for his work because the moment that Dominic finished the liquid in the glass she saw the complexion of her own face return much closer to her natural color and he seemed to suddenly have more energy and soundness of mind. She was busy talking to the shopkeeper though, interested in what he had to say. To say she avoided getting involved in diviner related things was probably an understatement, Mal seemed to understand what was happening when it came to magic and how it worked but Argent felt like she got a migraine every time the topic came up. But she was trying to understand for the sake of her sister because she was starting to worry for her, Mal kept getting deeper and deeper into older magic in the name of trying to figure out what was happening in Evermore and while Argent wouldn’t get in her way, she was growing more and more concerned for her sister’s wellbeing.
She had gone to say, because the spell sets, because she did know that much, that most spells had a certain amount of time where the magic was more tangible and then it became much harder to reverse. She was doing her best not to cause mass panic over the current situation though, as much as she wanted her own body back, right now, she knew panicking and screaming over it was only going to waste precious time. It took Dominic a little while to eventually piece together what she was trying to saw and his reaction was exactly what she had been trying to avoid “It’s not going to come to that” she assured him with a shake of her head, her sister wasn’t the only option they had in this scenario and they still had time to figure out what was happening and how to reverse it. It did make Argent wonder what the point of such a spell would be and it did occur to her that switching body with a guard may make said aspect able to leave the manor and do as they wished without their personal guards knowing. Argent pressed her lips together, she was a little worried though, it wasn’t like Mal to just up and disappear.
She was definitely feeling somewhat out of her element considering that she wasn’t in her own body and therefore her staff was as good as a glowing magic wand to her right now, instead she was currently overwhelmed with all of the things which came with being a therianthrope, though the thing that was bothering her most was her sense of smell, she swore she could smell literally everything, from the faint smell of the perfume she had put on this morning which now felt completely overpowering, to the smell of oil and dirt from the truck outside, it was a very strange and very distracting sensation that had her consistently zoning out because she was so caught up in it all.
She had barely been paying attention to the conversation, even though she should have but managed to pick up the gist from the end about Mal looking for some kind of scale from a dragon, which made absolutely no sense at all because dragons weren’t actually real, were they? She groaned from frustration, pulling a somewhat pouty face as she realized this was going to get far more difficult than she had originally thought it would be. She didn’t particularly like the idea of meeting with any dealers of the black market, nor were either of them really in any place to fight them off if someone went down considering she was without her staff and he was without his usual build and senses.
Argent looked down at the red-headed figure, still completely weirded out by the change in her height and how different everything felt “The first aspects, we’re not even sure if they were a real thing, it’s mostly myths and legends and it’s hard to know when they were written, some texts say that the world began with 8 dragons but” she pressed her lips together “Seems a little far fetched, even for someone who can turn into one” but that was exactly what the shop keeper had said and why would he have any reason to lie. “I suppose if anyone had any clues on magic as old as time itself, it’d be them if they existed” namely the original aspect of magic she supposed. Argent pressed a hand against her head “This is giving me a headache” she admitted but it seemed like their only option would be to find out if there was a black market dealer who was selling one and try and track them down and her sister in the process.
She looked to the door of the shop not wanting to talk in front of the customer who she didn’t know anything about. She grabbed his hand and pulled him outside “We cannot go and hunt down shady dealers like this, I literally can smell that guy’s hot dog over there” she spoke before she jerked her chin over her shoulder to a guy walking past about 100 meters away “How the hell do you deal with this?” she asked with a shake of her head, she felt dizzy and confused from the intensity of it all.
Dominic reached into the back pocket of his very tight jeans to pull his phone out. He immediately began scrolling through his list of contacts to see who would be the best person to call when he felt Argent wrap her fingers around his small hand and tug him outside. Feet nearly flying off the ground, he stumbled forward knowing she still had no idea how much stronger she was now as he nearly fell into her larger frame when they finally came to a stop outside and away from the shop. "Easy, Red!"
He raised an eyebrow at her and couldn't help but smirk as she appeared to be getting incredibly flustered by all her newly acquired traits that once belonged to him. His eyes followed where she had nodded to the man walking by who was in fact eating a hot dog that he of course could not discern from smell only like she could. Dominic closed the space between them and put his hands on either side of her face to try and get her to focus on him. It was strange touching his own beard with new hands. "Whoa, whoa, whoa. Deep breaths. Deep breaths. Slow and steady." He followed suit in his own advice and breathed in and out a few times. "I had my freak out. I guess it's time you got yours," he said, chuckling lightly and dropping his hands. "I know right now it must be pretty overpowering when it hits you all at once without practice. Honestly, over the years, you just learn to tune it out. Kind of like an annoying drip from a leaky faucet that you eventually can't hear anymore after it becomes normal background noise." His eyes scanned the area and they fell on the small fountain in front of the shop which had all kinds of small metal figures surrounding it as wildflowers and ivy grew around. Dominic gestured towards it with his head before looking back to her. "Try and focus on something else that isn't so unpleasant, like the sound of the water moving in the fountain. The key is to divert your senses to things in the world that you actually don't mind. Then everything else just becomes dull background ambiance."
He couldn't help the small internal laugh that he hoped wouldn't escape his lips as he went back to his phone and found the person he thought would steer them in the right direction. Putting the phone up to his ear, he quickly remembered that the voice the person on the other end would hear would not be his normal one. Dom quickly pounded his finger on the end key and sighed in annoyance. It was really becoming the little things now. Texting would have to do. 'Hey Eddie. Any heavy players in town lately? I'm looking for rare stuff. Really rare. Willing to pay top dollar.' After hitting send, he looked back up to Argent who was trying to keep it together still. If they were going to do this, they needed to at least look the part. After all, she was right. They couldn't go into the shadier area of town not looking like they belonged.
Dominic sighed and decided to divulge further into her sister's dealings than he knew Argent was aware of. Something he wasn't exactly happy about, but not because he felt guilty about telling her, but more so that he wished he'd spoken up sooner about how Malva seemed to be diving in head first into heavy magic. "She's been asking me to go to more places than just Washington for ingredients," he started lowly, looking at the ground and then out into the woods. When the Ailwards ask you to do something, as a guard, you tended to just do it without question. They were the keepers of the most important elements of the world and if they needed something done, the guards were to be counted on. So when Malva started coming to him, knowing he was familiar with the less than upstanding citizens of Evermore, Dominic was more than a little surprised. His duty remained the same still. He did what she had asked and went to find these rare ingredients at the black market in the rougher parts of Evermore. Her requests were becoming more frequent and he was beginning to worry about the dangers Malva was putting herself in as she pushed herself further down this path of unpredictable magic. Ironically, today was going to be the day he decided to have a word with Venetus about his concerns. The last time he'd stayed quiet for too long, the Isle had fallen.
His hues looked up to hers again as he continued. "She's asked me to get her things from the black market before, so we'll have an in when we get there, but..." he trailed off, looking at her up and down and scrunching his features. "We need to look like we aren't prey either." Dom started walking around Argent, staring at his own body that didn't look anything like its normal self. He slid one of his now smaller boots in between her larger booted feet and tapped them each a few times back and forth. "Spread your feet apart more and for God's sake, stop standing with my, well, your hip to the side like that." He walked around to face her again to assess. "I can't let you go in there by yourself and I certainly will stick out like a beautiful sore thumb if I go alone."
He felt his phone vibrate in his pocket and quickly read the text from Eddie. 'Hey, man. Guy named Frisks is in town for the next couple of days. Word is he has some good stuff, but it ain't cheap.' Dominic quickly sent a text back in thanks and then let out a breath. If Malva did go down there because she couldn't wait for Dominic to get back to the mansion or she didn't want to ask him again, knowing he might start questioning, she would be putting herself in a ton of danger. He was hoping this wasn't about to turn into a rescue operation, wondering if that was why she hadn't been answering her phone.
Dominic glanced up to Argent again and sighed, hating himself for putting her in this kind of situation that she wasn't used to. If anything happened to her or Malva, he wouldn't forgive himself ever. "Ready?" It was a rhetorical question because how could she be? "I'll pretend I'm a buyer and you are just there to be my muscle, so work on your best 'don't mess with me' face on the way there." He started heading towards the truck again, hoping they could get some quick information and be out of there without any trouble. "We're gonna need some cash. A lot of it. Think you can round up some money from your limitless Ailward funds?"
The moment they came to a stop outside in the sunny streets of Evermore her mouth formed an O as she realized she had dragged him out quite literally like a ragdoll which only evidenced to her how tiny she normally was and how he was an actual giant “Sorry, guess I literally don’t know my own strength” she spoke as she glanced down at him and then sighed, she was starting to get really concerned, she felt like there were things she didn’t know and not being in her own body was starting to really un-nerve her to the point where she was quite literally debating pacing up and down the sidewalk.
The worst part of it had to be the smell, the strength and the speed, those were easy to handle and rein in, or at least they were easy when compared with the constant bombardment of smells she was getting, everything felt overpowering and sickly, just looking at the hot dog was making her feel nauseous, add onto that the fact that her hearing was better than it usually and she swore her eyesight was too. It was all very overwhelming for her, she didn’t know what to focus on first because it was all just surrounding her and confusing her. She blinked a few times as she looked back at him, somewhat in confusion “Yeah well I don’t have years, or at least I damn hope I don’t” she muttered before she widened her eyes and looked back at him “No offense” she spoke, she couldn’t imagine he would be thrilled with staying in the body of a tiny aspect either though. “So everything is just gonna be loud and obnoxious and you have to pick the best of the worst, got it” she sighed softly shaking her head.
She was about to protest when she saw him go to make a call but he seemed to figure out that his voice wouldn’t be the same before the call connected and she pressed her lips together, they definitely weren’t used to this whole switch thing yet. She used the time to walk up and down the sidewalk a little and try and focus her mind on singular things like he advised, in the end, she settled for trying to block out all the smells with sound, she could hear people laughing and talking in the background of the buildings around so she just distracted herself by listening to them telling some silly story about the pet dog in their home. Before long she was lost in her own world listening to the story intently, so much so that when he started talking to her she didn’t realize until she caught his gaze and tried to divert her attention back to him with a sigh.
She could see a somewhat troubled look on his face as he went to speak which made her immediately soften her gaze a little wondering if something was wrong, she heard the words he said and the way he seemed to avoid her gaze which immediately had her worried and upon his admission she sucked in a long breath and shook her head a little, it wasn’t a surprise to the younger aspect who had watched her elder sister cry tears of blood a few months ago in her bed, she knew something was really wrong, that’s why she had reached out for Ben’s help to get through to her along with trying to find the alleged feather of light she kept seeing in her dreams “So I’m not the only one who senses something is really wrong” she spoke, her tone showing some relief that it wasn’t just her being overly worried for someone she cared about deeply, she tried not to step on other aspect’s toes where she could but Argent worried for them and their safety, probably more than she was supposed to.
She looked between them and sighed softly, well their hopes of not looking completely out of place were pretty much hopeless, at this rate they’d be better to rely on him fighting in her body because she quite literally couldn’t figure out this sensitive nose and ears thing and it was really screwing with head. She almost tripped when he forcibly made her stand in a position that felt strange to her and she looked up and scowled at him “Sorry, it’s not every day you wake up as a freaking guy” she spoke and shook her head a little doing as he spoke. She paused for a moment thinking of how she had seen Dom many times before, he always held himself easily but with a presence that was somewhat intimidating, she attempted to imitate that persona with some success looking a bit more natural in this body, hopefully enough to convince people.
It wasn’t even a question for her that they had to do this and so she continued walking up and down the pavement, this time emulating the way she remembered him holding himself and walking and speaking a few things to herself where she purposely lowered her tone to match his usual gruff tone “It’s a good job we’ve known each other for a long time because otherwise I literally would have no clue” she spoke semi optimistically, she wasn’t really thinking about the danger because if she always dwelled on that she probably wouldn’t get out of bed most mornings. “As we’ll ever be I suppose” she spoke and nodded her head when he told her to just act like she was playing bodyguard, she grunted when he spoke about money though and sighed “Easier said than done but” she gave a slightly shifty gaze “I do know the wire passwords Ven uses” she admitted, she was going to be in trouble when he finds out she did this without sanction but it wasn’t like they had much choice “Well it’ll be you he kills first, since you’re me and all” she whistled innocently and climbed back into the truck, holding onto the wheel and looking at him apprehensively “You’re gonna have to tell me where shady town is, I barely even leave the castle” she stated matter of factly.
Dominic rolled his eyes at her with a smirk as she mentioned Ven coming after him first now that he was donning her appearance. "I plan on getting out of this body before he has the chance to come after us and back to the safety of my cabin, deep in therian woods where aspects are seldom seen," he joked, opening the door and climbing back into the passenger seat. "Shady town comes after we hit the bank. We're going to need money first. There's a buy-in to even walk around down there. There are rules to this thing." He sighed softly, thinking of the regrets he was already having bringing Argent into this dangerous world. "So, to the bank and possibly my head on a platter when Venetus finds out."
After they had gathered a decent stockpile of money from the bank and were on the road, Dominic led Argent further into the downtown area of the city. There were hundreds of people braving the cold weather as they wandered about the shops to buy presents for the recipients on their holiday lists; something that he needed to get done himself as he thought about the motorcycle that sat in his shop still waiting for its finishing touches and a good paint job for the nephilim he favored so much. If she could see the way he looked now...
"There." Dominic pointed out the window for her to turn down a seemingly empty alleyway and park the truck in a small vacant parking lot. As they came to a stop, he cleared his throat and turned to face her. "Alright, make me as pretty as possible." Before she had the chance to reply, he closed his eyes and held up a hand to stop whatever words she was about to say. "Don't make it weird, just... do the girl things you do to make men feel stupid." He tugged the shirt he was wearing a little lower to show more cleavage, keeping his eyes shut tightly and ruffling his hair. Opening an eye, he looked to her. "Have to be convincing, right? So.. do the thing," he said, waving his hands around himself wildly.
After Argent had poked and prodded at him while wiping some of the leftover mascara that was still living under his eyes, Dominic reached into the backseat and dumped out a duffle bag that held the spare change of clothes he always kept in the truck in case he needed to phase into his lycan form suddenly which would've rendered what he had been wearing to shreds. He stuffed the bundles of cash inside the bag and let out a breath. "Okay, I'll do most of the talking. Just stand there and look like the idiot meathead I probably always appear to be." He sighed out once more before handing the bag over to Argent and exiting the truck.
The alley was quiet. It only appeared to be he and the aspect walking the lot as he lead them towards a simple metal gate that barred their entrance into another part of a deserted alley. "Here we go," he said quietly, when suddenly the cloaking spell that surrounded the place lifted and the normal guard that always stood watch appeared. The parking lot was now full of other cars who belonged to the other people who had entered through the barrier. "The gatekeeper's name is Bones," Dominic whispered, knowing she would be able to hear him now that she inherited some of his therian traits.
The diviner gave a smile to Argent who he recognized as himself, offering a handshake. "Hey, Dom. Didn't think you'd be back here so soon." Bones's eyes fell to him next, giving an up and down look to check him out with a sly smirk to match. 'God, is this what women had to deal with all the fucking time?' "And you brought a beautiful woman with you this time. She your girl?"
"I'm the money," Dominic responded quickly in annoyance, looking to Argent and then to the duffle bag she held. "Just give him the five hundred so we can get on with this."
The diviner sucked his teeth in response with a slight chuckle. "I love me a fiesty redhead." As the payment switched hands, the facade over the parking lot went back to vacancy and the gate moved open to let them pass. "Happy bidding, Red."
Dominic walked down the few steps in front of them, leading into the heart of the busy hub below. It was like a bizarre of stolen goods as people tried to sell their wares to the wealthy buyers of supernaturals who walked about in hopes of finding rare gems. "Welcome to the black market."
She also shook her head at his comments “Yeah well the feeling is mutual, though I’ll be retreating back to my room and refusing to leave” she did up her seatbelt and set the truck intro drive taking a long breath and doing her best not to think about the pressure he had put on her to not damage it. As they took off down the road she sighed softly “Ven is not going to be happy at all and he’s going to change all the passwords” she grumbled a little under her breath because she sometimes used it to go on little shopping sprees. Still, if her sister was in trouble then it would be worth the lectures about unsanctioned missions.
She gave him the password and stayed outside and he took out a significant amount of cash from the account, she eyed the bag on the floor of the truck a couple of times as they drove wondering how much was there. Frankly, while she might have a good idea of how much designer clothes and the likes cost, she didn’t even know where you started when it came to the black market and part of her got the feeling that knowing would make it so much worse so she simply tried to take it off her mind.
When he said to stop at a seemingly empty alleyway she gave him a questioning look for just a moment before she turned into the vacant parking lot, doing her best not to look completely out of place while parking up a vehicle she had only been driving for about an hour. She gave him a confused look when he said to make him look pretty, she groaned as it finally set in what he was intending to do. “Every feminist bone in my body hates the direction this is going” she commented but grabbed her bag off the backseat and started getting to work on his make up “You know if you hadn’t wiped it all off earlier we would have saved time” she pouted a little knowing how long it took her to do it normally.
She started with a little foundation and then blush on his cheeks which went well but by the time she got to anything around the eyes, his constant blinking was actually driving her insane and she did her best to make him look presentable without having him cry it all off with the way his eyes were watering. “That’s the best we are going to get with our current predicament” she spoke and then nodded when he said he would do most of the talking “Good because if it wasn’t obvious I don’t really get out much and I definitely don’t go to illegal auctions” she hushed her voice when she said that as if someone would hear her and hopped out of the truck closing and locking it behind them.
She followed behind him, making sure to walk with an easygoing style to her step just like she had seen Dom do plenty of times before, she took a long breathtaking in the words he said and the sudden change in scenery around them. Cloaking spell, clever. She did her best not to show her reaction, instead, listening to the words Dom spoke, which she could hear despite the fact that he was whispering. Another strange new revelation for her, suddenly being able to hear quite literally everything, including what was happening beyond the gate. Without hesitation she stepped forward to meet the handshake, an easygoing smile on her lips “Hey Bones, yeah me neither but she can be pretty insistent” she jerked her chin towards Dom for a moment and stepped back.
She was glad she didn’t need to say much more because he made your typical assumption which she had to stifle her unimpressed snort in response to. Thankfully Dom was better at this than she was, which she supposed was a given considering he’d been on the guard for a long time and undercover missions were part of the deal. She reached into the bag and held out the money as instructed, giving a knowing nod before heading through the gate with Dom, even in her smaller frame he was already striding down into the distance by the time she managed to follow him, taking long deep breaths to calm her nerves.
She had a bit of a spring in her step as she caught up to him, glancing at him with a stupidly giddy smile on her face “I’ve never gotten to go undercover before, it’s kinda fun” she spoke softly before she realized the quite serious situation they were currently in and did her best to calm herself eyes glancing around at all the people standing around at stalls, showing off their quite likely not legally obtained wares. She wet her lips clutching the bag of money closer to her chest feeling a little suspicious someone would come around and steal it “I’m guessing none of these smaller merchants are going to have what we’re looking for” she commented expecting they were going to need the bigger guys in the chain for this one.
"Undercover." Dominic scoffed. He couldn't help but smirk a bit at her excitement for being out on an impromptu mission. "It's like being in disguise, only... not." He knew the Aspects didn't get out much and if it were up to the Guards, they'd like to keep it that way. It did make it rather easier to keep an eye on the beings. Making sure some of the most powerful supernaturals in the world were constantly safe was rather nerve wracking at times. Frankly, with every step he took, the more he was regretting bringing her along. Time was of the essence though. He had to just keep telling himself that. Especially if Malva was in way over her head.
He squeezed between the mass of bodies that walked the crowded alleyway, looking back every so often to make sure she was keeping up. It was much easier moving through people in Argent's body and he knew all too well how complicated it could be in his own. It was one of if not the biggest reasons he hated going into the city. The market was just a mini version of that hell. Give him open fields and endless skies any day of the week over downtown Evermore, but as it were, he did as Malva had asked and frequented it for her. Now that she was possibly here by herself only made his anxiety spike the closer they got to the correct buyer.
Dominic nodded to her assumption in agreement as they pushed further through the market. "You would be right. We're going to need another $500 to even get into the next tent." He glanced backwards and saw her taking in all the chaotic wonder that the illegal shops had to offer. Not that he could blame her. It was rather a sight and he would be lying if he said he hadn't purchased a couple items here while on a run for her sister. Sure, Dom was all about helping to keep the world in balance, but a pair of ancient Persian daggers that had taken down kingdoms was a pair of ancient Persian daggers that had taken down kingdoms. Some things just couldn't be passed up.
As they neared the corner of the street, two men that were as large as Dom in his correct body stood outside of a tent made for a small circus. He stepped in front of the pair and waited for Argent to come closer before they motioned them forward when recognizing his other face. A petite woman with a big attitude was on the other side of the closed flaps they passed through who put her hand out without a word expectantly while loudly chewing her gum. Dominic gave a small nod to Argent to indicate to pay the lady before walking further inside.
The tent had a riser with chairs lined up in rows in front of it. The podium was empty at the moment, but other people were beginning to take their seats who had paid their way in. "Ever been to an auction?" Dominic whispered, leading them to seats that were near the back so he could get a better view of the entire space. His eyes scanned the people who had come to see what the high-end seller was auctioning, but none of them matched the brunette Aspect they were looking for. "Just try not to make any sudden movement that would indicate you're bidding on one of these items or we're going to have to live life on the run because Ven will most certainly kill us if these guys don't for not having enough money."
A few more bodyguards began to pool out from behind the curtain and line up around the perimeter of the tent along with the auctioneer who took the few stairs to stand in front of the microphone. His gaze looked over the people once again and behind him towards the entrance, but still there was no Malva. He didn't want to give up hope yet. Perhaps she hadn't yet arrived and even so, Dominic wanted to make sure she hadn't passed through here either. After the auction was over, he intended to ask a few questions of the seller himself; Someone who wasn't exactly the most forthcoming when it came to his buyers. After all, people wanted to mostly remain anonymous when it came to buying these wares illegally.
A handler brought out an ancient looking vase with Egyptian symbols and sat it out on the table for the intimate audience to look over. He wasn't sure, but Dominic could've sworn seeing the pot move. "Our first item up for bid, the immortal asp of Queen Cleopatra the seventh." Dominic gave an involuntary shudder through his body. He hated snakes. Hated. "Documents of its validity will of course be with the item signed by Caesarion the fifteenth, son and nephilim to the diviner queen. Bidding will start at one million dollars."
Dominic made another disgusted face and looked away towards the curtain once more as it fluttered open while the next item up for bid was being prepared. There he saw the man he was looking for. The elderly millionaire who was the seller of all these obtained wares. "Him. That's who we need to see." His knee bounced impatiently, but he at least knew the man was there and hoped he'd be in the mood for a quick audience after the auction. All he could do now was wait and keep a vigilant eye out for either the missing aspect or this first born dragon scale that might be the key to her whereabouts.
Argent shrugged when he made a comment about the word undercover and she shot him a look that said ‘don’t ruin this moment for me’ and shook her head slightly “Not exactly the kind of disguise I imagined on a mission but” she shrugged and smiled brightly “It’ll definitely be an interesting story to tell after this is all over” well she hoped they would make it out and be able to return safely back to their bodies by the end of today anyway, as nice as being tall was, she missed her small stature more than she thought she would. Plus acting like Dom was harder than she thought it would have been.
She did her best to keep up with Dom but it was a little harder than expected because of how many people there were around, Dom’s body was well built and she practically had to shove people to get them to move out the way while Dom nimbly weaved his way through the crowd, thankfully she could see over the top of most people to spot the copper curls from a while away. Damn, people weren’t kidding when they said she was easy to spot in a crowd.
“It’s a good job we have that never-ending pot of money you aforementioned” she grumbled knowing she was going to have to explain this one when they got back from the mission and none of it was going to go down well, especially not the part where she went on a mission without her personal guard and not in her own body. In fact, that was going to be quite a headache to explain. She blinked a few times to bring herself to reality just as they caught up to the tent and she did her best not to look completely out of place while taking in all the sights and sounds around her. When Dom implied she should pay the woman at the entrance to the tent she took out a stack of cash to the amount of around 500 and placed it into her hand with a curt nod of her head before she followed Dom through into the next room “I really hope your gut feel is right on this one” she spoke softly, she definitely felt out of place and Dom looked it in her body and it was a wonder they didn’t stand out like sore thumbs.
“I’ve been to a silent charity auction” she commented under her breath in a questioning tone but she got the feeling that this was nothing like that, she did her best not to let her eyes wander too much because everywhere around them were supernatural people and she didn’t need her aura reading abilities to know some of them weren’t good people. Nor would they take kindly to knowing the Ailward guard was here as she knew a lot of people didn’t believe in the concept behind her kind. “Easier said than done when you’re a damn giant Dom” she cursed but placed her hands neatly in her lap and did her best not to move too much as she observed everything happening around them.
She wasn’t exactly sure what they were hoping to find here, surely if someone had a dragon scale they weren’t going to part with it easily and if they couldn’t afford half the things in this auction she highly doubted that they were going to take pleading as a form of payment. Still, she kept her mouth shut and watched as the auction began, seeing the things they brought out and the greedy look on people’s faces as they talked under their breath about what they might want to use each thing for. She shuffled a little uncomfortably and glanced over Dom giving him a look of disbelief that he was a regular at places like this.
“A million dollars” she whispered a little shocked by the price they were putting on all and sighed softly, the things she allowed herself to be dragged into, she swore. It seemed all her comments had gotten the attention of someone behind her though because she caught the tail end of a conversation which mentioned two people looking rather out of place. She was about to mention it to Dom when she felt a kick against her legs from behind which, being that she wasn’t exactly accustomed to this body, sent her flying forward, just about managing to catch hold of the row of chairs in front of them. Positive note, she didn’t completely fall on her face, negative note, the whole damn room was now staring at her.
Dominic sighed out in his impatience. Not from Argent, but because he wanted the auction to move along. His eyes were glued to the curtain that they needed to get through and every time it opened for someone to pass, he was checking to see if the seller was still visible. He didn't want to keep this rouse up and longer than was necessary. There were people in here that knew Dominic and reputation was something that allowed you to continue to be present at these auctions. Money wasn't the only reason someone was given access to the tent; getting the invitation was just as important. It had taken him several months to finally have enough clout to walk through the entrance. It wasn't that he wanted a single thing they were selling. Well, maybe a few of the weapons that he most definitely couldn't afford, but it was just to keep an eye on the illegal happenings of the supernatural world. Despite being on the good side of things, it didn't hurt to have an ear among the bad side of Evermore either. Ruining that relationship now would be a setback for the him and the Guard.
"A million dollars," Dominic repeated in confirmation, never taking his gaze from the objective. "Wait till you hear what they sell this thing for." He couldn't help but grimace as he thought of what infamous thing was inside the vase that he wished he could kill for free. As much as he hated snakes, killing an animal wasn't exactly something he took lightly unless it was for survival. How he wished he could make the exception.
A sudden commotion made him look to Argent as she fell forward. When Dom processed what had just happened, he looked back and immediately stood up in reaction. "Problem here?" Forgetting completely that he was in the slender body of the Aspect, his voice came out somewhat threateningly which also came as a surprise to him.
"Five million dollars from the Miss standing in the back. Do I hear six million?"
Dominic spun around and felt his stomach drop. "Oh. Oh, no, wait, wait, I wasn't bidding."
The man and woman who were sitting behind them didn't seem to be amused and when the male stood, Dom suddenly felt rather small. He was at least three hundred pounds, bald, and by the expression on his face, probably had never smiled before in his life. The woman sitting next to the giant was dripping in expensive jewelry and had a hat with a veil on that kept her eyes mostly covered, but she tilted her head at such an angle that it was obvious she was turning her nose up at Dominic despite being the one who was sitting while he was standing. She scoffed at Dominic, leaning to the side, and raising a slender, gloved finger.
"Six million dollars to Mrs. Dillenberg. Seven? Seven million dollars?"
Dom let out a breath in relief and he saw the woman sneer. Her I-am-greater-than-thou attitude really needed checking. Since he was technically in a woman's body, one light slap across the face... no, no. Still wrong.
A baritone voice broke his thoughts as another large man approached. He was one of the many stationed security around the perimeter and looked rather stone faced. "Both of you, with me." There wasn't really any arguing the command, so Dom gave a nod to Argent to just do whatever was being told of them because there were zero other options. Some attempt at resistance would just end very badly for them.
The curtain moved aside and he expected to see the old man sitting there, but to his dismay, it was nothing but more security. The guard who had called them over made them stand against the wall as the auction could still be heard going on from the other side. Dominic glanced up to Argent for a moment and then back to the men who stood there motionless and stared at them. "Not awkward or anything," he muttered, crossing his arms over his chest and immediately dropping them again when it felt all wrong. It was clear the security detail had no intentions of answering any questions and the pair were meant to stand there and be silent as the auction continued unseen. He didn't exactly like the idea of not knowing what their fate was when the selling and buying would be complete, but he quickly began coming up with some possible ways of getting out of this situation; None was better than the other.
A second curtain wall moved aside and in came the seller, Frisks. He was sitting in a wheelchair, covered in a few blankets, and was being pushed by one of the bodyguards. Lifting a frail hand up to indicate to stop, he was left in front of them with an expression Dominic couldn't quite read. One of the guards yanked the bag forcefully from Argent and unzipped it to show the contents to the elder. "It seems you weren't here to buy anything, so what exactly are you doing here at my auction."
"Information." Dominic quickly answered. The amount of money they had was no doubt a giveaway that they weren't here to purchase, so a half truth would have to do. "We're interested in the first born dragon scale."
"Again, you're clearly not here to buy, so what do you want? Be plain about it before I have you removed without your information and possibly without your money because you have interrupted my business and I feel as if you perhaps owe me for that." The seller folded his hands together and laid them in his lap as he looked between them with suspicion.
Dominic tried to think of the best way to word what he was truly after without completely giving away who they really were which would no doubt cause for an even bigger problem. "More specifically the buyers. I understand anonymity is very important for you and your clients, so I'd like to ask if perhaps you had someone purchase the item today."
"Yes." Dom's brow lifted slightly as the man fell silent, clearly not feeling the need to elaborate any further than that. Seeing this, Frisks rolled his eyes in annoyance and shifted slightly in his chair. "A man. He's never been to my auction tent before, but frankly he made me an offer I couldn't refuse. Someone new to Evermore." Frisks waved his hand nonchalantly and three of the guards moved from the wall. One of them grabbed Dom's arm and yanked him towards the tent with ease while the other two stood on either side of Argent, each taking an arm. "That will conclude our business today. It would behoove you not to come back to the auction for some time now, Dominic. You or your friend. That will be your one and only warning." One of the men moved the tent aside and roughly pushed them out. "And if you're wondering if the brunette aspect was interested, the answer is yes." Dominic pulled from the bodyguard's grip and looked to Argent before looking back to the old man. "Yes, I know who you are and your sister, but as a said, my other buyer made me an offer I couldn't refuse along with some interesting information about some things to come upon Evermore."
"Have you see her? Do you know where she is?!" Dominic quickly asked, but Frisks only looked at him with annoyance before the tent closed shut again and they were left in a normal alleyway, outside of the marketplace. "Great. Just great." He rubbed his arm where the man had grasped onto him, feeling the residual pain begin to throb. Not that he expected her to be, but he asked Argent anyway. "Are you alright?"
She had to hold back a curse as she held onto the chair in front of her and grumbled under her breath, it seemed like they did stand out more than she initially thought and she widened her eyes when she heard the auctioneer say that Dom had bid on one of the items which they most certainly couldn’t afford. She felt her heart drop in her chest from the panic which filled her but she tried her best to swallow it because panicking right now wasn’t going to help anything.
She stared at the person from behind who had kicked her and scowled slightly to which she only responded by taking the next bid on the item which did make her breathe a sigh of relief but she certainly didn’t appreciate the rudeness she had exhibited.
She didn’t have much of a chance to say anything or let her emotions get the better of her though because before she knew it that were being asked to follow a burly looking man who had a less-than-impressed look on his face, she looked over at Dom and swallowed hard knowing they didn’t really have a choice in this matter and when he nodded she ducked her head, following the male out towards the curtain.
The aspect didn’t know all that much about how all this worked but she knew they were in a lot of trouble for interrupting the auction, even more so because it would be pretty evident they didn’t actually have the ability to purchase anything here and were actually on a fact-finding mission. She felt twitchy, fidgeting on the spot as she did as she was asked to stand against the wall. She had never been in a situation like this before but it definitely felt like a looming sense of danger in her stomach and she didn’t like that feeling at all. Her eyes kept glancing over to the curtain because she could hear the auction continuing to run through there and she had to hide her reactions for the number of powerful things they had and how willing people were to pay crazy money for them. She hugged the duffle bag against her chest tightly as though it would protect her from what was coming.
Her heartbeat quickened a little in her chest when one of the guards came over to pry the bag from her arms and she made the mistake of resisting which got her a pretty nasty elbow to the chest which winded her and made her recoil as her grip released the bag and watched as he took it over to the male in the wheelchair “Hey-” she protested in an unusually high voice for Dom’s usual persona before realizing and pressing her lips together slumping back against the wall.
The male looked frail and dainty but she could tell almost immediately that he was much more powerful than he looked and he wasn’t the kind of person you messed with, she went quite because Dominic seemed to be answering the questions and she didn’t want to seem like she was getting in the way of it. She pressed her lips together scanning her eyes from person to person, it was about now she was sorely missing her ability to read people’s auras because then she might have a small inkling of what everyone in the room was thinking and whether they were in any immediate danger.
She kept feeling like she should interject and say something but another part of her told her that it wasn’t the time to be brave and reckless so she did as she was told and stayed silent, eyes scanning over to the male in the wheelchair and the frame of her own body as Dom quite smoothly handled the situation. She wasn’t sure how this guy knew what was happening between them but she was pretty certain he knew. Which she guessed meant he was probably a Diviner because who would have so much intuition if not a Diviner. Again she couldn’t be sure because she was currently without most of her powers which was frustrating her no end.
It seemed like the male was feeling somewhat gracious because he actually did answer some of Dom’s questions, though they were very carefully worded, no doubts to protect whoever it was that had bought this dragon scale which Dom seemed to know more about than he was letting on. Hearing about a male new to Evermore definitely struck a chord of dread in her and her mind was filled with questions about what this scale was and more importantly, what power it could grant someone. If Malva wanted it and hadn’t managed to get it then someone else must have really wanted it because her sister was about as stubborn as stubborn came. It was all a blur and before long she found herself being turfed out of the tent by her arm, stumbling forwards and putting her hands out to stop herself from serious harm.
She looked back at the man but it was clear he was done talking and she was feeling rather dizzy after this whole ordeal. She let out a grunt as she turned onto her side to look back at Dom “No of course I’m not alright, what the hell is that scale for Dom and no more kid gloves, you know we’re up against some serious threats in the city” it seemed like this had been about more than just finding Malva and now she was worried for her sister’s safety, especially after seeing the places she had been for herself.
She rubbed against her arm a few times before pushing herself to her feet “What’s to come in Evermore? That sounds an awful lot like a threat” she pressed her lips together trying to calm herself down because she knew getting angry at Dom wasn’t going to fix anything. Aspects didn’t really get involved in guard business and now maybe she understood a little about why, she was more pissed she had to stand there and do nothing the whole time when that guy should be behind bars for possessing the things he does. They shouldn’t be sold to shady people for millions of dollars. It was evident from the look on her face she was less than impressed.
