Ever since coming to Evermore, Anivia found herself going into the city often, being able to feel ever Niveis made it impossible to not want to go towards a certain tug to someone who she hadn’t seen in a long time. Someone who had no idea that he was working with his own Niece. Kaldre Frostbourne her last living sibling someone she envied for his freedom to do what was right for him. She hadn’t even told Caspian, or Rhydian that he was there in town. She found herself standing on top of a building staring down at the pawn shop time to time wanting to talk with him. She wondered if they would ever be back to the way they use to be before that fateful night that caused the tribe to fall apart.

One evening that she knew Lucia wasn’t working, Anivia made the choice to go and just see her brother with her eyes, carrying a special blend of tea she use to make for the siblings back when they were closer. She wondered if he would ask her to leave or welcome her, what kind of tension would be there between the two. Anivia walked along the sidewalk her hands stuffed into the pockets of the coat she was wearing even though the cold was comforting to her, she wanted to look as normal as possible. She moved through the door of the pawn shop after standing outside of it for a long pause. She found herself reciting what she was going to say to him over and over again.

As the ding of the door opening and closing drew her attention up to the bell for a moment she moved deeper into the shop. She paused as she walked up to the counter and looked down to the jewels that sparkled back at her before she saw his reflection in the glass of the display. She pulled her gaze up and stared at him for a long moment in silence before she cleared her throat and let her eyes look around the random items around “Seems like you have done rather well for yourself Kal.”

What was this so weird to her was it just all the time that had passed? Was there deeper issues she was picking up on that neither of them have admitted to the other. “When Luica told me about working here I was worried.” she paused for a moment “Was worried you would not want your niece working with you.” Her eyes moved and rested on her younger brother. “How is your life? Anything exciting you want to share with your older sister?” she looked down to the cups she had in her hand that she had forgotten about “I brought you my special blend you use to like.” she said setting it down on the counter in front of them.

“That’s good, god knows how badly the tribe needed to be brought out of the stone age” it was evident the moment he had left just how far behind they had been when it came to everything, how their father had kept them in a state and held them there for years. That was part of his plan, to keep them so disconnected from the outside world that they barely understood it anymore and for a long time it had worked. “That can’t have gone down well with” he cleared his throats “Certain people” meaning those who had surrendered for the sake of their lives but still believed in the old way of tribe living. The ones Kal refused to stand alongside. “Not to be the guy who says what you don’t want to hear but in a way I hope they do” all leave, he meant “Not because I think anyone wants to abandon anyone but because there’s a whole world out there to see” they’d probably come back eventually but he did hope every single one of them got to spread their wings a little. “Everyone with any sense avoids it, it’s all gossip and coverups anyway” he shrugged a little “It makes good destruction material for the cat though” he chuckled softly.

“The world would be lucky” he eased back towards her and grinned with a playful look, it was nice to be able to just joke around with her and not constantly be thinking about the pain they had been through, which albeit there was a lot “I expect to see it in person” he insisted with a low chuckle. “Well I’m not sure all that much grows on the mountain, besides seclusion hardly seems like the way to show the city we intend on being active participants” he shrugged slightly, he’d learned to adapt to living in an ordinary apartment in the city, though he did always have the air conditioning turned down to a low temperature. When she asked him what a therapist was he looked away for a moment “It’s someone that you pay to talk through you problems with to help you cope with everything going on in here” he pressed a finger to the side of his temple. When she said she was proud him, a bright smile appeared on his lips “Thank you” he spoke it softly, he really appreciated her saying it.

He chuckled and tilted his head to the side when she said his nose looked fine “Clearly you don’t remember the first one we ever got done” he shook his had in an amused fashion and then pulled his phone out of his pocket, flipped it into selfie camera mode and then held up “Well it seems like we need to rectify this situation for once and for all, so smile” he looked up into the camera and was for a moment taken over with the fact that the two of them were really here, together again. He pressed the button to take a few pictures “There, no lazy eyes or wobbly noses” he wished Quilo could have been here to be part of it though. “As opposed to wallowing in self-pity huh?” it was sweet that she had worried about him, god knows she’d had enough of her own problems to worry about. He’d been tempted to check on her too many times but a trip to Unyak wasn’t something he was willing to endure again.

“Sounds like quite the story” he commented with an amused gaze, it was evident from the way she spoke about it all that it ended already, though he supposed they must be amicable because she wasn’t saying a bad word about him “Via you were never him, you know that right?” he shook his head dismissively, his issue had never been that he believed that for second, it was that he couldn’t stick around and play ball with people who he thought were personally responsible in some part to the death of the man he had loved. He could understand her fears though, he’d be lying if he said he didn’t have them himself. He nodded slightly at her next words and touched his other hand over hers “I’m not going anywhere fast, Evermore has become quite the thorn in my side” he grabbed his cup to finish off the last mouthful of the tea savoring the flavor before he set it back down on the table.

Anivia nodded in agreement. She knew that the tribe needed to brought off the island for many years. Yet many were hesitant to leave their home. She knew a few had returned to live out the rest of their days on the island. She couldn’t blame them for not wanting to follow her, but she visited them as often as she could to see home and make sure they where well. “A few stayed on the Island.” she told him as she twirled the cup with the last bits of tear was left. “Those people stayed behind on the island, and I go back and check in, and see if any wish to leave from time to time.” She knew they wanted to form a new colony, though she went back enough to make sure they were not reverting back to the old ways.  She thought over his next words for a moment before she spoke again. “I want everyone in the tribe to find what makes them happy, at the end of the day that is why I brought them off the island. If they all left and found things that made them happy I would be happy. I don’t want anyone to stay if they don’t want to stay.” She said as she tapped the table gently with her finger. “We all should be able to find something that makes us happy and have our lives. But the older Niveis don’t believe in much besides tribe life.” She said as she took the last bit of tea and sat the cup aside. “So that is where we are now. Those stuck in the tribe way, and those who will leave and never return.”

It was something she thought of often though, how she was a foot in the old ways and a foot wanting to go off on her own. “If I ever do you will be the first person to see it because I will need an honest opinion if it makes me look like I am trying to hard to be young.” she chuckled it was a funny thing to think about since well, they were older than they looked. “Well those who choose to be active participants in the city have found their way from the mountains but I like living up there myself. Sometimes wander off into the woods and connect with the snow alone. Its nice. I have made myself known in town also clearly.” She nodded to the copy of the Evermore daily. “It a nice middle ground for what some of us need up there. One of the other members who moved into town installed this giant walk in freezer to sit in.” she spoke of some of the other Niveis who had made their home in the city. She still liked knowing why he wanted to live in an apartment alone though which is why she asked.

As he spoke on what a therapist was and how it related to his mental health she gave him a gentle nod. “I understand.” she ran her thumb along the empty mug. “Maybe I should speak to someone.” she mentioned lowly, though she had never been one to talk about her problems openly. “I am glad you have someone who is willing to listen to you.” she smiled softly towards him as she shook her head slightly. “You don’t have to thank me silly.” she laughed softly “Well my memory is a little fuzzy from time to time but the one I have your nose looks normal in.” As he pulled out the dreaded phone from his pocket she groaned slightly. “I hate those things.” She had broken a few since traveling and always hated the moment when Caspian or Rhydian would force a new one upon her. Looking to her reflections she smiled though so he could take a photo. “Remind me to tell you the time I almost ripped off a diviners head when he came upon me naked in the snow with a camera.” she laughed as she looked to the photo for a long moment, they were so different then them past selves, though there will always be a missing piece where Quilo belonged.

“I just want to make sure you were safe and alive.” she said softly as she looked him over for a moment. “Even though you left I was never not your older sister, and I never will not love you.” She smiled softly to him. “Was a crazy time that was for sure.” she thought about it for a moment before she let her gaze fall from his for a moment before looking back to him. “I have strived to never be like him. I know logically I have not been him and was never him but…” she shrugged for a moment  and took a deep breath as she looked to him. “Means a lot that you see I wasn’t like him though.” She knew he had his reason for leaving and while she would never and could never hold it against him. She just wanted to be there in his life some way now if he would let her. “Well it looks like we are both going to be in Evermore for a while.” she squeezed his hand softly before pulling it back. “I should be getting back before Dae and Rhy rip into each other without me around.” she chuckled softly as she stood up. “Thank you for giving me time to catch up.”

He wasn’t surprised to hear that some people stayed behind, he remembered there had been a lot of push back when Anivia said she wanted the tribe to leave the island to go and explore the world, some saying they didn’t want things to change and that tribe life was all they knew. It was all he knew too at the time but he was ready for change and reached for it with both hands, he wished all of them would eventually have the luxury of doing so for themselves but it seemed like some people would choose to stay stuck forever “That’s gotta have you a little on edge” he commented as he watched her, he knew deep down she would have wanted everyone to stick together but he supposed the fact she had left without them said a lot “Good, because I think there is a lot for people to go out there and find if they look” real jobs and education, the chance to be who they wanted to be and lead lives in varied and exciting paths, he hoped they got to experience it all.

He laughed because he didn’t think Anivia was the type to change something about herself on a whim one day but he sure would be impressed if she did show up with colored streaks sometimes “Don’t be ridiculous, no one in this city is really young” he laughed because it was true, every supernatural you met was older than they looked, Niveis weren’t unique or different when it came to that. Immortality could also be as much of a curse as it was a blessing too considering he had to worry about people realizing he wasn’t aging. “I thought about the mountains but flying down every day seemed like too much effort to me but I’m sure you’ve got actually supplies and the likes up there” he settled for having the aircon turned down as low as possible and generally just becoming accustomed to the heat. “A walk-in freezer?” he spoke in disbelief and let out a slightly surprised laugh “Wow that’s some serious dedication” he pressed his lips together in amusement.

He used to always try to hide any information about his therapy from everyone and now here he was telling one of the most important people in his life about it, Anivia didn’t really seem to understand all the ways of modern life but she seemed open-minded which was nice considering how backward the community she had been raised in was “It’s more helpful than you probably realize, just talking to someone who doesn’t know you and doesn’t want to insert their opinion” they didn’t really have that back on Ukyak, everyone was more a suffer in silence type if he was honest. “I know but I wanted to” he spoke softly, he really did miss her, he didn’t realize quite how much til now, he supposed he had become so used to being alone he forgot what the feeling of being around family was truly like. Looking at the photo he took of the two of them he smiled but then gave her a questioning look “I will definitely remind you but now I’m wondering who was naked in the snow and why” he frowned confused because that sounded like a hell of a story.

“Well if I am anything, I am a survivor” he responded to her words with a slightly sad expression because it still killed him a little on the inside to know their brother hadn’t made it to see the other side with them. “Yeah well I was never not your annoying younger brother either, I do things that are crazy sometimes but I think I’ll always find my way back” he nodded firmly. When she spoke about the lengths she had gone to not be him he couldn’t help but think how she couldn’t be like him even if she tried, her nature was just so different and he couldn’t see a day where her need for power would overtake her love her people. Not without some crazy outside influence anyway “Well keep doing what you’re doing, clearly they all believe in you” he squeezed her shoulder slightly and smiled when she said she needed to go “How about dinner once you get settled? I’ll show all the best spots in the city” he gave her a smile as she headed for the door and he waved her goodbye.
