Since being in Evermore; Maddison was still trying to find some sort of a purpose; now that they were among the living. For the first few weeks, she felt lost and confused. Being among the living, was somewhat overwhelming and Maddie didn't really trust a handful of people; aside from the Aurazins who were her family, and the Ailwards, who were on their side and trying to help them. Whilst, it would make their job of helping those in need, a lot easier. Maybe it was the fact that she had made peace with being dead for the last 7 years. Now the entire faction was trying to somehow fit among the living. In a city full of Supernaturals, with unexpected happenings no less. But like the rest of her faction, she was somewhat trying to adjust and get used to everything. Including all mortal necessities, like the need to eat, sleep ect.

Not knowing how long they would be in Evermore. Maddison had found herself a job. A new gift store had opened up in the city. Selling all sorts of cute trinkets, gifts and on occasion some antiques. The Aurazin needed a change of pace, after her previous jobs in her human life. And this seemed right up her alley. It was somewhat of a new challenge for the female. But one, that she had gladly taken on. Finding that her new job had a slightly slower pace than her previous careers. It left her to go at her own pace, when it came to sorting out stock, when she wasn’t dealing with customers. But since it was a fairly new establishment; it was quite popular during the weekdays. Bit more quieter during the week-end.

Like most mornings, Maddison started fairly early. During the week-days, the shop was open from 6.30am till 4pm. During the Week-ends, it was open from 8am till 2pm. Apart from Sundays. It was closed then.

Since opening up, it had been a fairly easy going day so far. Customers seemed to be far in between at the moment. Since some new stock had arrived, in the morning.Maddison was slowly unpacking the boxes and organising the new stock, for the shop.

As she stood by the toys section. Maddison was checking the new stock of automatic toys and other little trinkets for kids and young adults, when she heard the sound of the bell. Signaling the arrival of a new customer. Picking up the box of stock; she carried it with her, behind the counter. So she cleared the path, for whatever customer would decide to look around the store. “Good Afternoon, if I may be of any assistance, please let me know.” Maddison warmly greeted the customer. With her greeting, she set the box behind the counter, on the floor.

Mikaere had gotten news about this new little shop opening up from not one but both of his adopted daughters. Mik wanted to check it out to see if he could get them anything, just as a token of his love and appreciation for being in his life and allowing him to be the father figure to them both. Being able to be a father was very special to Mik because he couldn’t father his own child; not until he found her. At which time Mik would waste no time in spending his time with her trying to catch up on all their lost time.

Climbing off his motorcycle Mikaere headed into the little shop hearing a soft voice greeting him he looked in the direction. “Afternoon, I will certainly do so.” He replied to her as he stepped in shutting the door behind him. Walking down the first aisle he could see why the two girls liked this place many figurines and different odd antiques that Artemitra would recognize from their time.

He smiled as he walked around taking everything in when he saw a figurine of a phoenix and a baby one, it nearly brought him to tears. Clearing his throat, he composed himself “How much for the stars, phoenix, and the snowflake?” He asked as he looked at the figures. Lifting them carefully into his large hands he walked towards the front counter.

“Also do you have any suggestions on what I could get for two adopted daughters’?” He asked. “They are both around their twenties” He lied, Afterall he could come out and say that the one was over a hundred. Having humans in the city did complicate things sometimes, Mik understood why they needed to hide who they were; no one wanted to fall victim to experiments.

Maddison let the male wonder through the shop, to see if anything would catch his eye. Whilst she was checking the stock list, that arrived with the delivery; checking the last box in case anything was missing from it. Looking up, as he walked over to the counter, asking about a few of the figurines. “The stars cost $5.50 or $10.90 if you want the bigger ones. As for the Phoenix, that’s $7.00, or $15.90 if you’d like the entire set of the Phoenix family figurines. The Snowflake costs $5.00.” The Prices were reasonable, especially for gifts of all sizes. The Antiques usually cost a bit more. But that was a given for their value and the times they were from.

Hearing his question, The Aurazin had to pause and think for a few moments. She had often had parents ask that very same question; when they came in to buy presents for their children.

“It would depend on their hobbies, I suppose.” Maddison said honestly. “But I can recommend our set of vintage journals, if either of your daughters like to write. We also have a new set of jewelry, some of it’s more vintage but still very classy. Some of them come personalised, with birthstones and names. If either of their names or birthstones are missing from our collection, I can order it in for you. But it’ll take a few weeks before it’ll be delivered here.” She informed the male, it seemed like those few things were most popular with young females. So hopefully something would be to his liking, for the girls. It was the least she could recommend, especially not knowing much about his girls. But Maddison didn’t feel like it was her job to pry more about his adoptive daughters; as it felt too personal, since he was a customer and a total stranger on a personal level.

Mikaere listened to what he said while placing what he wanted on the counter “I’ll take it all?” He laughed. “Their names are Autumn, Avonie, and Artemitra and their month of births are...” He had to take a pause to try and straighten that out in his head with all three birthdays swarming in his head. Mikaere suddenly felt his age at not being able to fully recall the months so quickly. Finally, the elder man remembered the three and shook his head “Sorry” He had to laugh at himself “The Youngest and the middle both have a birthday in February and the oldest Birthday is in April.” Mikaere offered her a gentle smile.

The journal would do nicely for all three so he thought, and matching necklaces would hopefully help the three to bond more as his children when he found Avonie. For now, most of his attention was on his other two adopted daughters though he could not stop himself from buying something for Avonie when buying for the other two; He wanted to make her included when he found her.

He had a box of items he had been buying for her all wrapped up in gift paper from over the years waiting for her to finally be able to open them. Mikaere didn’t want to give up hope that he might find her one day.

“I can come back to pick the three necklaces up together, but Three journals the Phoenix family and larger star and the snowflake. Thank-you.” Mikaere waited for her to tell him the total, the Niveis often spent more than he should on the girls but he couldn’t help himself. “I haven’t seen you around, are you new to town? This shop is also quite new isn’t it?” He asked with mild curiosity.

The Aurazin looked a bit surprised, that he wanted everything on the list. But it was like a doting father to spend a lot on gifts for his girls. Some Parents that came here, would overspend. Mainly because it was so easy to, when new things caught everyone’s eyes. Listening to the names of his daughters, Maddison picked up on the A theme, but the names sounded unique. Especially the last one; never having heard of that. A soft smile lingered, as he took some time to remember the birthdays. “Unique names.” Maddie commented, making a note of their names on a piece of paper, so she could order the necklaces at a later time. Making sure to note down their birth-month by each name.

“The journals are located near the back, 4th aisle away from the back storage.” Maddison pointed him in the right direction, so he could pick whatever journals he wanted for the girls. As each one had a different design for the covers.

Maddison nodded. “Would you like to pay for the necklaces in small instalments, or pay for them when you pick them up?” she offered, the usual when people ordered in costumed made necklaces for someone special. “Each Necklace costs $20.00.” So that would be 60, on the necklaces alone. The Aurazin took out a nice gift bag behind her, so she could nicely pack away what he had chosen so far. Neatly wrapping up the ornaments he picked out. Keeping them all up right.  Double checking the prices, after she scanned in his order on the laptop. “That will be $31.80 for the ornaments. And extra $45.00 for the journals.” With the Journals being high quality and unique, they were priced at $15.00 each.

His curiosity got the better of him, like it did most people. “I lived here for a few months now.” So in effects, she was still pretty new to Evermore, along with the rest of her people. They were still adjusting. “As a gift shop, yes. I do believe it’s quite new. As far as I know, the new owner of the building just refurbished and redecorated the shop, but the building has been here a while. I think it was previously a newspaper shop, before someone else took over.” Maddison had only worked here for almost a month now, but she did know a little back-story off the building and what it was before, it got turned into the adorable gift-shop it now was.

“Thank you, though I can only take credit for this one.” He chuckled as he looked to where she indicated the journals might be and off he went to pick out the perfect ones for the girls. Mik couldn’t imagine his life without them in it, somehow having them made him feel a bit more complete a bit more whole. Without his wife, things had been hard for the man but as time went on things seemed to be coming together for the man. He was not looking for love though should it fall into his lap he was not opposed to the idea of it, after all, he had been a very faithful man to his beloved wife all this time. As he carried the 3 journals back up to the front counter he smiled at the woman behind it.

“I will pay for everything upfront, or I am likely to forget I am not all that with it as of late.” He joked with her. Though it was half true “What brings you to our little city?” Though the city was actually quite large it was just something Mik said when he encountered a new member. “I am sure I will be in here much more frequently if the girls like the things I get for them.” He said. Standing he removed his beat-up wallet from his back pocket and waited to hear the grand total already having forgotten the amounts she had named off for him just a few moments ago. Mikaere was really starting to feel his age in moments like this. Or maybe it had something to do with the pretty lady standing in front of him he was not quite sure, to be honest.

The Niveis looked over the items he had picked and was deeply satisfied with the purchases as he was sure his girls would be overjoyed with the little gifts. “Do you have any children of your own?” He asked idly, trying to make pleasant conversation with the woman.

Maddison could tell he adored his daughters. A doting father. Even if she wasn’t familiar with the adoptive situation. Giving him time to pick out what journals he wanted for the girls. It had been years, since Maddie had gotten close to anyone. Always feeling self conscious, and scared to get close to anyone, after all her ex Dante put her through. Love wasn’t even on her list of things. Apart from love for her brother and friends. Maddison just didn’t feel in the right frame of mind, to consider opening herself up to someone, on such an intimate level any more. “Good choice.” she mused, when she saw what journals he picked out.

Nodding, smiling in small amusement at his joke. “Fair enough.” after she scanned the barcodes on back of the journals, to add to the total. “That’ll be $136.80 all together.” Placing the journals in a separate bag for him, she tied a ribbon around the bag, to help tighten it. Placing the receipt in one of the other bags. Leaving everything for him on the counter. “I wouldn’t exactly call this city small.” But she knew it was just an old saying. Not sure what to tell him. The Aurazin just settled on the usual, she told people when they asked her. “Needed a change of scenery. It’s been a while since I last moved.” Moving once in a while was good for her. Or so she found back in her human days. But she wasn’t about to tell a complete stranger, the truth about being dead...and the veil being closed off to her and her kind. He’d think she was insane.

His next question made her freeze up slightly. Reminding her off the time she had been pregnant, from her ex husband, only to suffer miscarriage. There was an awkward silence. Before she quickly composed herself. “No, unfortunately I never been blessed to have any children.” But she did always want some.
