It was always the same routine for her when it came to her Dhampir training, every evening she would head out and catch out criminals running loose on the streets of Evermore, get a few hours sleep and then she would head to the Dojo first thing after she woke up to train. Considering all the injuries she tended to get when she was out on the streets, it was smart for her to only show up when fewer people were likely to be there, fewer questions were always better for her and really fewer people in general, Nora wasn’t really the kind who liked to constantly be bothered when she was training.
The Dhampir reached the Dojo about 7:30 am and headed straight inside, dressed in her usual workout gear she was ready to get going after a few stretches and setting her stuff down on the bench. She was glad this place existed, it was a safe space to practice her abilities without needing to worry about who might see her and it had every piece of equipment, weapon and target you would need, though of course, the Dhampirs tended to bring their own. As she wandered through the space she noticed the was one other person here this morning, she could hear her training energetically, her breath huffing a little as she threw a few hits against the training bags.
Nora stopped for a moment and glanced over at her, she couldn’t say she’d seen here before and certainly not this early in the morning which made her a little curious about who she was. She was clearly a Dhampir considering how at ease she looked in this place and the weapon set beside her on the ground where she could grab it she needed it to. Nora did notice one glaring thing though, she seemed to be very experienced. She pressed her lips together almost feeling a little tense just seeing the stance she was holding as she threw punches and couldn’t even stop herself as she spoke “You need to plunge your feet” she commented and when she got her attention, Nora explained what she meant by plunging her stance so one leg was in front of the other before demonstrating a punch to the air.
She was used to being by herself. Mostly because when she was young she wasn’t used to being around other people her age. With how her parents tried to keep her from other children. Prefering to keep her homeschooled thinking it was the way to keep her on the right track like how they were brought up. Back then it only made her rebel more choosing to take a different path and mingle, becoming friends with people who she would have been around. She always did wonder if her parents would have told her themselves that she was different from all the other kids. That maybe her being a Dhampir was why she kept away. Fleur did wish that she grew up with people who were just like her, so she could be able to be further in her Dhampir training than others. Trying to spend the last 10 years trying to figure out who and what she is, and still learning. That's why she thought that Evermore City was the perfect place. Having heard about the Dhampir Fraction from others over the years that everyone is welcome for people like her.
Already finding in the past few weeks since coming to the city she was spending more of her time at the Dhampir Dojo. Mostly in the hours where there were not many people about. Always like to have own personal space when trying to train. Where she could lose herself in a way like most people who like to train or work out listening to their music. Drowning out any noise and their surroundings to focus on what was in front of them. Fleur didn’t exactly know what she was doing never having anyone train her proper. Choosing to just spend money on gym memberships to use the treadmills or things she could figure out on her own. Not wanting to bother anyone to ask for help when really she was needing too.
Fleur prefered waking up early to start each day. Always an early riser instead of a late one even if she were to go to sleep late she would still wake up at the same time. Prefering to stick to a routine. Nowadays her routine consisted of waking up, having her morning coffee before leaving to get to the Dojo. Missing the morning rush of people going to work. Choosing to go on the treadmill first thing as a warm up before she would decide what to move on after. With how much choice there were, all available for anyone to practice and get better at the training. Fleur chose to move onto the punching bag instead of the different sort of target practice. The Dhampir threw punches at the bag, each one she threw got harder. Almost taking it all out on the punching bag finding it was moving more than it should be in different angles. Fleur huffed under her breath with a little bit of frustration not knowing first what she was doing wrong until a voice answered her own question. As she stopped herself from throwing another throw at the bag, she turned to see a brunette dhampir standing beside her noticing where she was going wrong. “Huh?” Looking to her in confusion not used to anyone noticing her before or where she was going wrong. Watching as she was shown a demonstration what to do instead of how she was trying to do it. “So to it like that instead of keeping my feet together?” Looking over to her to see if that what she was doing wrong. Fleur took the Dhampirs advice, changing her stance to put one foot in front of the other before she threw a punch at the bag. Already finding it a lot easier from how she was trying to do it. “I can see what you mean now” She laughed softly seeing where she was going wrong. “Thanks” Fleur smiled thanking her for her tip, now she wanted to know if there was anything else she was doing not right. Sure there was more.
Even within the Dhampir community, Nora was usually the kind to keep to herself, she didn’t get along with others all that well if she was honest, once she was done with work all of her tolerance for people seemed to fade away but lately, she agreed that she would help with some of the training here in the Dojo. She did kinda feel bad for the people who ended up learning under her honestly because she didn’t have time for slackers or those who clearly weren’t serious about their training. She supposed that came from the fact that if she made a mistake then she could end up seriously getting herself or others hurt and the projected itself onto the cautiousness she used when teaching others.
Nora watched the other girl training from out of the corner of her eye, noting the way that she seemed energetic and focused with all of her movements, it was clear to Nora that she was dedicated to the cause and wanted to get stronger. Perhaps that was why she felt inclined to say something, she remembered when she first began her Dhampir training that it had all been new to her and she had made some big mistakes because chose to learn alone, she was stubborn like that, unfortunately, if she could do something for herself then she would because it cut out the need for others.
She hadn’t really realized she had actually said something out loud until the other girl had turned to look at her confused and Nora bit her lip before showing her what she meant by changing her stance when she was working on the punching bag, for one, she was kinda worried she might end up straining her arm if she continued how she was, she was working out quite hard “Yeah that’s it, that way instead of using your arms only, you can put the whole of your body into each punch, hence making them more powerful” she knew hand to hand combat like the back of her hand. She noticed the difference in the delivery of her punch almost immediately and she nodded slightly when she thanked her “Believe me you want to avoid a wrist strain at all costs, they hurt a lot” she responded as she came in closer, taking the spot on the punch bag next to her and wondering if perhaps she should help out more.
“And you learning hand to hand?” she asked as she threw a few hits to the surface, delivering them in a pattern which was almost hard to pin down to someone else but was like breathing to Nora, she had learned to always change her fighting technique in seemingly random patterns which others couldn’t predict when they were fighting her “What’s your weapon?” she asked curiously because often you could link this kind of fighting with your weapon to make yourself more powerful, not in Nora’s case though because her weapon was a bow.
Fleur was still trying to get used to how things in the Dhampir Community was like. Never really living in or spending too much time in a place like this. With how she’s not one to spend much time in one place for too long. Prefering to keep moving way of making sure she doesn't fall down any bad paths or go back to her old tricks. If she keeps moving and leaving all the time. Only now was she starting to see that it wasn’t helping her Dhampir Training. Not properly getting the help she needs thinking she could just teach herself. Fleur has always been a little naive when it comes to different things. Always feeling a bit too nervous to ask or admit when she’s out of her depth. Not knowing exactly what she’s doing just wanting to try and figure out it all out on her own. Never having anyone to help her always been on her own. Having yet to find out how things work over here if people are friendly or not, close even. Still have yet to figure out any of that out more like distancing herself from becoming closer to people. Going to the dojo to train first thing or last thing, avoiding going to when it’s less crowded. Less people way she likes it.
Finding how she was able to zone out more easily with less people and distractions around her. Just like what she was doing now. Too zoned out not seeing that there was anyone watching her train until she heard tips being given of where she was going wrong. Taking on the tips Fleur could see straight away the differences of changing her stance helped her. How easier it was and how it wasn’t hurting her arm as much with how before she was doing it. “Thanks” She grinned a little looking at the brunette that she noticed what she was doing wrong all along hearing the explanation behind the tips. “That now makes a lot of sense” Nodding her head trying to take in everything she was being told so she can learn and use the tips. “My wrist was starting to hurt before” She mused a little admitting to how the way and technique she was using before had been hurting her. Fleur took a few steps back looking over at being shown the proper techniques.
Watching in amazement almost seeing how powerful the shots were, how perfectly the technique was compared to how she was doing it herself. “Wow, you look like a natural” Fleur could see how many more years she’s spent training compared to her. “Yes, my weapon is a dagger. I’m trying to get better hand to hand combat but turns out trying to learn how to do it by myself is proving to be a bit more difficult” Explaining to what she was trying to do, still trying to get used to it. “Do you know any more tips on how to help me? Only if you want to and have time of course” She wondered looking over to the other Dhampir seeing how she was already helping her. Admitting to how she was out of her depth needing a proper trainer someone who knows what their doing. Rather to herself trying to figure it all out on her own.
Nora wasn’t the community kind of person, don’t get her wrong, she could deal with people just fine and did so on a daily basis but she just worked better alone most of the time. Her training had mostly been one on one with the Dojo leader from her city Katiya who taught her pretty much everything she knew until there wasn’t much more to learn, the rest was about practice. It had taken her a few years after coming to Evermore to actually come here but now she did, she felt a sense of comfort. She sparred with other people here from time to time and occasionally ran training sessions, though she was known for being pretty hard of people who slacked or didn’t put in the work they should on their training. Nora took fighting very seriously, considering it was the very thing that kept her alive when she went out on the streets and fought to protect people. Just like a Dhampir was supposed to.
She nodded slightly when the young-looking girl thanked her for the tip, she glanced over her form now her feet were plunged and she could definitely see an improvement in the way she was delivering her blows. “You’d be surprised how much of fighting isn’t actually about strength at all” she commented nonchalantly, in her experience, someone with brute strength could certainly pack a punch but someone with perfect form would easily be able to counter whatever was thrown at them. Her small stature often worked to her advantage in fights because no one expected her to be able to fight the ways she did which often put her ahead of whoever she was fighting. “Yeah you have to be careful when training, one really stupid move and you could be out for weeks” she nodded, she’d made those mistakes plenty of times too and learned from them.
She chuckled slightly when she said she looked like a natural “Technically we’re all supposed to be naturals, Dhampirs after all” she grinned slightly “But most of it is just training over and over again until you get the hang of it, learning to actually fight again people and learn their patterns” she nodded slightly. She bit her lip when the other girl said that she had been trying to learn how to fight alone, while Dhampir had natural intuition, the actual process of fighting wasn’t really something you could just pick up, you tended to need training and practice with other people. “A dagger is good for hand to hand, you can keep it in a holder on your belt and get to it easily when you need it” though Nora did believe in non-lethal force before using a weapon, her bow worked well for that as she could use arrows which were not sharp. “Try switching up your pattern, using your elbow to add any extra kind of hit” she demonstrated by throwing a couple of punches before blowing the training bag with the outside of her arm, just up from her elbow “The key to hand to hand is to do things your opponent wouldn’t expect” which was easier said than done but came with practice.
Fleur knew she was more behind than others when it came to her Dhampir training. With that being the lack of it having never properly been part of a community of people who were all like her. Too not spending much time around Dhampir since back when it came to her weapon training. Since then she found herself on her own in a way. Used to it. To figure it all out on on her own, she was okay with it all. Thinking that it would be the same now. Since moving to the city Fleur was seeing how there was already formed groups even within the Dojo she noticed how there were people who were always together. Thinking maybe she was too late to be a real part of it. Choosing to train on her own. Having her own space where she could forget everyone and everything around her. Preferring to train and exercise with no distractions now seeing how it may not all be a good thing. Not seeing till now all she was going wrong with how she thought was the way to throw shots at the punching bag. Thinking it couldn’t be too hard to figure out till she learnt how her positioning was all wrong making her hand eye coordination to go all off.
The Dhampir was already finding the tips she was given making everything the more easier than from how she was trying to do it all before. “I thought it would be” Sounding a little bit naive still all new and unknown to the ways of fighting. Yet she was eager to learn so she could get better. To make up for all the years she’s lost so she could be where she’s supposed to be with her Dhampir training and abilities. Having lost out on the chance. Fleur couldn’t help but laugh a little at the mention of being careful when training. “I may have sprained and hurt myself a few times over the years” She admitted sheepishly with how she wasn’t surprised now learning that she’s been doing it wrong for all this time. “What about you? You got any bad injury stories?” She went on to ask to see if she was clumsy like her or more like a ninja instead. Seeing how focused the girl was when demonstrating the right way a few moments ago.
“Born fighters right?” She mused a little having heard the lined used by a few people. Fleur didn’t think she was a fighter just yet but it was where she was wanting to be soon. Nodding her head a little listening to her tips and guidance. “That’s what I’m aiming for” Fleur knew had a long way to go if she’ll be anywhere as good as other Dhampir so she’ll be able to use her fighting and weaponry skills to her advantage like most people around here does. Back when she had her weaponry ceremony she was happy that her weapon was dagger something she was already yet to. “Back where I grew up, most people tend to carry around a knife or something for self defense” She admitted like how it used to be something normal within the type of crowds she used to be around but Fleur knew it was all different around here except for people of their own kind. Others relied on their powers instead. “What's your weapon?” She wondered looking around to see if she could see a weapon nearby with how she knew hers. Fleur watched carefully taking in the way she was throwing punches, what part of the arm she was using. Almost to see if she could remember and try to do it herself. “Right that looks a bit harder than before” She commented to herself trying to take in to see if she could do it. Facing her own training bag in front of her, using the stance of distancing her feet that she learnt before. Throwing some punches focusing more on the technique instead of punching at full force like before. Using outside of her arm to her elbow just like she’d been shown, trying to use the same techniques. Already she could see, feel the difference in the punches but knew she didn’t do them as good as her. “To focus on something other than middle of training bag right?” Looking over to see if that was the right thing to do and try next already knowing that it wasn’t all about focus punching and aiming in one area.
Nora had a bit of reputation for being a harsh trainer which meant most people kept their distance from her when she was training, mostly she just got frustrated with people who thought after a few sessions they had the strength to take her down. She definitely did enjoy putting people into their place when they decided they were suddenly strong enough to take her down, she might be small but she was also very strong. Deceivingly so. “Of course strength helps, but being able to use your mind in a fight is way more important” she nodded slightly, all well and good being strong but if someone was already 5 steps ahead of you before you began then you really stood no chance of winning at all.
She pressed her lips together when she said she had sprained herself and hurt herself a few times “Don’t worry, we’ve all been there” she assured her with a nod of her head when she asked if she had injury stories of her own “I’ve always been pretty coordinated but I can also be quite reckless, when I was first starting I would go after people who were better trained or generally stronger than me and then get my ass kicked” she shrugged slightly “Plus when I get really into training I can get a little heated, so sometimes I go a little too hard and end up spraining a muscle” it was natural and part of the process, you weren’t going to do it perfectly every time but you could definitely get better at it.
“Supposedly yeah, though I’m not sure I believe in that exactly” she responded and shrugged her shoulders slightly, yes Dhampir had better reflexes and agility which made them better at fighting but that didn’t mean every Dhampir was cut out for being a fighter, some people didn’t have the right state of mind or the determination it took. Nora glanced over at the girl when she said she was used to people needing to carry a knife for protection when she was younger “That’s sad to hear” not unsurprising to her though, it was dangerous out on the streets, she knew that better than anyone. “A bow” she responded and then scoffed “Talk about one of the most impractical weapons ever” she joked and then shrugged “I’ve learned to work with it, though it hasn’t been without its struggles” she learned hand-to-hand as a backup because she couldn’t always be at range when she was fighting.
“A little at first but before long you’ll find the rhythm is quite natural, besides it gives your knuckles a short break” she nodded slightly as she continued making her mark on the target, naturally varying her pattern and even jumping back on her toes a few times so she could put additional force into her punches. “See you’re getting it, the element of surprise is your friend and anyone can throw a punch, what someone won’t expect is for you to go for something different” she had seen her share of fights on the streets and most of it was fists flying back and forth without much technique. “If you imagine it’s a person you’re fighting, you don’t always just want to go for the middle of their chest right? Before long they’re going to know where you’re aiming for and block you” she nodded sightly before stepping back so she could make a simple kick to the lower part of the punching bag “Now that won’t see that one coming” she gave a wry grin in the other Dhampir’s direction “What’s your name?” she raised her brows curiously.
She’s always been inexperienced in how things work whether it was for training or her language stills. Both things she was working on getting better at. Starting off she was wrong and needed help from someone who knew what they were doing. Instead of trying to figure it all out on her own. Seeing how she had far to go. Wanting to start building her strength till she would go on figuring out tactics. “Yeah your right relying on strength isn’t the way” Nodding her head to her new trainer able to almost sense that she had a lot of experiences and being in many fights and probably won many. “I haven’t really been in a fight before but I know if I do I want to be one step ahead, gain the upper hand” Fleur didn’t want people to think she couldn’t fight or was weak because she was a girl and didn’t know how to fight properly or that she weren’t from around these parts too. “Guess it’s my new goal” She grinned already feeling ambitious for it all. Starting to get the help she’s needed all along only slower at taking it. Fleur could totally see the brunette taking on more or stronger people than her but in the end winning. “Are you able to throw people over your shoulder easily?” A little eager to hear more stories maybe it was because of how she’s not been around other people like her who were stronger. “Spraining muscles aren’t good” Having sprained a few with how she’s been training all wrong without even knowing.
“I’m still a bit late to the Dhampir thing” Not knowing if she was cut out for it all at times why she was wanting to train to catch up. How she didn’t know what half of the runs were, what they were and how to use them too. If she’ll ever be able to use them other than training situations. She was sure she’ll find out in the future that it’ll all come in handy. “I used to live in the Red Light District in Amsterdam” Shrugging her shoulders but not ashamed of her past or where she used to live. With how everybody has a past sure that she has some stories and secrets of her own. Fleur was able to keep her dagger easily hidden but she could see that it was harder if she had a bow like her. “Yeah you can’t easily hide a bow unless you carried around a massive bag or hid it under a coat” She pointed out laughing how awkward it may be happy she had a smaller weapon herself. “I’ve not really trained with a bow much” Remembering how she was trying to figure out what weapon would be hers years back that her aim with a bow was quite off. Missing the target many times. Knowing back then that would not be her weapon choice but always amazed at people in the Dojo who were so good at it.
Now Fleur was able to know and see where she was going wrong more egear she was to train more to get it right. Now she had the tips and tactics, taking it all in what she’s been told. Starting to figure out what her fighting tactics were and how to use them properly seeing how easily it all flowed for the other Dhampir who she didn’t know the name of yet. “So always make sure to use different fighting techniques and not rely on the same one” Trying to make sure she was understanding it all so she could start to use it in her training. With it all was still known for her and English wasn’t her first language. “Make sure to switch it up” Watching as she was being shown how to use kick to switch between a punch and a kick to throw off someone. “I’m guessing you’ve kicked a lot of people's asses” She joked laughing making light of the training. “I’m Fleur, and you are” Smiling softly introducing herself properly forgetting almost to.
She nodded slightly “Especially when you’re smaller like we are, there’s always gonna be someone we go up against who has more brute strength than us” while Dhampir did have enhanced strength and that counted for something, it wasn’t reliable when compared with stature and build. “Well with any luck you won’t have to fight any real fights because they aren’t fun” and she didn’t encourage anyone to put themselves in that situation, she was just an especially reckless person who didn’t know how to let things go. She gave a slightly devilish smile when the other girl asked her if she could throw someone over her shoulder easily “And right onto their ass straight after, count on it” she laughed softly, she was one of the most committed trainees at the dojo, when she wasn't working or out on the streets, she was here, practicing because she didn’t want to rely on her weapon alone, she wanted her hand to hand training as her backup.
“Well there’s no deadline for starting, just means you might have to work harder to keep up” she seemed determined enough and she was already learning from her mistakes and progressing which was more than she could say for some others who always stuck to what they knew and never really moved forward. “Damn, that must have been loud” she commented when the other girl said she lived in the red light district, she couldn’t imagine that could have been an easy time in her life “Evermore must seem pretty calm in comparison huh?” which was saying something considering she had seen some of the darkest parts of Evermore. “I admit there was a time where I was kinda questioning why, you know, why not something more practical” she laughed and shrugged “But then I got to practice with it and it’s definitely...me” she was sure the other Dhampir would understand because your weapon kind felt like a part of you.
“Yeah and then once you get into a natural fighting rhythm, you can then focus your mind on countering whatever the other person brings to the fight” the key part was being in sync with yourself to the point that you didn’t need to think about what you were doing so you could just focus on what your opponent was doing and how best to tackle their weaknesses, it took a lot of practice and patience to get the point where it was second nature like it was for her. “A few” she commented with a chuckle as she stepped back from the punch back a couple of steps before she hopped from her back foot to her front foot and delivered a strong kick against the bag which was enough to bend it back a little and she grinned triumphantly “There’s a reason most people in here avoid sparring with me” she laughed softly “Nora” she responded to Fleur’s introduction “So why are you starting training now?” she asked curiously.
Fleur knew that she’d be up against many people who were stronger than her because they were bigger than they are. That she’d have to think more tactically when fighting someone else something she’d have to work on. “Hopefully I’ll only need to spare with people but as you say, you never know” Fleur knew there was more of a reason why people like them were trained how to fight that they’d never know if they need to use their power to defend themselves or protect others. Only seeing it more now living in this city. Fleur grinned seeing how she was right thinking that that the brunette could easily take on someone twice the size of her. Just able to get that impression in a way, not knowing why she could. “Remind me not to go against you in a fight” She teased softly yet she was serious about it how she could see her easily being taken by her opponent before the fight even started. Thinking she’d work on training to take on someone who was similar skills as her instead of trying to take on someone who would out strength her straight away. Fleur could see looking around the dojo that there were people who have experienced or like her inexperienced, all trying hard to improve.
She knew she was further than to where she should be a reason why she’s been trying much harder with her training. Pushing herself because she knows she should be a lot better than she is. “I know I have a lot of time and things to make up for” How at times she felt that she was nowhere good as anyone else around how they had years of training whilst for her she’s not had the chance and opportunity really till now. “I never really been part of the Dhampir Community like this is here” She admitted explaining that she’s still new to it all. “This whole place still amazes me” Feeling like half the time she’s like a little kid in a bookshop who she’s still surprised at different things are like here. Truthfully she did miss her old city with how it’s where she came from and the place she’d always call home but knew she couldn’t really go back there any more. “I do miss the who street lights and places lit up at night” Missing how the streets used to be all lit up Red back there very different to over here. “It’s more calmer here but darker too” She admitted truthfully something she could properly understand why but she did. Fleur did think too that a bow was an impractical weapon, why she was happy that she stuck with a dagger that was much easier. “Everyone is all different, right?” Laughing along with her. “We don’t choose our weapons they choose us” Remembering when she found her weapon back at her weapon ceremony years ago, how she knew that the dagger would be her weapon choice and was part of her since then.
Fleur was trying to listen and take in the tips and information so she’d be able to remember and use part of her training. With how she needs to focus on the method behind the training instead of focusing solely on the strength where she’d been going wrong all along before. “After time it all should come naturally to me?” Wondering curiously seeing how the brunette does it all easily how it flows naturally but for herself she’s having to think more before she throws her hits. Still Fleur stood there watching amazed how easily the brunette was able to do it all, trying to remember the stances and different movements she’s doing to change it up each time. “I can see why because they knew they’d be easily beaten by you” She commentely slyly but how she she she was right. “I must say you're really good at all this nora” Smiling softly complimenting the Dhampir to how she’s impressed all ready. Fleur was expecting being asked why she’s only starting the training now with how most people started it years back. “I never knew I was a dhampir or that supernatural world was all real until I was nearly 18” She admitted looking over to Nora. “I got mixed up in the wrong crowds and some things went bad but there was a Dhampir Woman who helped me and told me the truth how I was different from other people. I didn’t want to believe her at first that it all wasn’t real but soon it became a reality. She helped me a little up until my weapon ceremony, just with basics” Finding herself thrown into another life not knowing back then if it was something she even wanted. “Back then I only wanted a fresh start a new life, I guess I delayed my training not wanting to look for my true purpose before coming here” Always feeling a little bit lost all her life till now.
She nodded slightly, she really did wish that all people ever needed to do was practice fighting because it was fun and a good way to exercise but unfortunately that wasn’t the case and every day there were people thrown into situations which they could be much safer in if they knew how to fight “I wish I could tell you that you’ll never need it but” she shrugged nonchalantly “That isn’t the world we live in, unfortunately” girls could definitely protect themselves much better when they did hand to hand training, especially with trainers who specialized in those who were physically weaker than their opponent. She looked up at her, giving a playful grin towards the younger Dhampir when she said to remind her not to get into a fight with her “The same applies for most people in the dojo, don’t worry” she smirked slightly, she did enjoy having a bit of a scary reputation if she was honest, though often people thought that meant she was unapproachable.
She nodded thoughtfully “You certainly do, more Dhampir start their training pretty much from age 10” she had done that and it had definitely been a part of her life for a long time now, fighting and her protective nature were a part of her now and honestly, she wouldn’t have it any other way. “It’s kinda like a weird family you never really asked for but it’s there anyway” she commented and chuckled under her breath, because every Dhampir was born they tended to make these little communities where they came to train and share expertise on their weapons and rune training “Have you done any of your rune training?” she was curious to know how much of a beginner she was because using runes was probably the most exciting part of having a Dhampir weapon. She had to admit she’d never heard of Evermore being described as dark before “Really? I always thought Evermore was pretty bright with all the skyscraper lights” she laughed under her breath. When she said everyone was different Nora smiled slightly “It would be awfully boring if not” she nodded slightly thinking about her weapon and the way it felt like an extension of herself in some ways.
Nora pressed her lips together to hold back an amused smile, it was cute to her, how Fleur seemed so new to everyone and full of curiosity, she remembered a time in her life when she had been the same way and honestly, those first few months of training she did were very positive memories for her, remembering the excitement of learning new things and then putting them into practice. She grinned sheepishly when Fleur complimented her fighting skills and said she could see why others didn’t match up “Mostly it’s about discipline and training often, the more you do it, the easier it gets and before long you won’t think about it, you will just do it” and that was when you could really get good at it and feel like you were proficient in the skill.
Hearing the way Fleur explained her story, Nora felt a certain amount of sympathy for her because it must have been so confusing to reach 18 and not know you were supposed to be doing a weapon claiming ceremony or the likes “That must have been pretty confusing for you, suddenly feeling a draw to things and having no idea why” she nodded slightly “But there’s nothing scary about being a Dhampir, we’re basically just humans with badass fighting skills” she punched against the bag sharply as though to deliver the point before glancing over at the other girl “I personally think you’ll find a lot of yourself in training, when nothing in my life makes sense, just holding my weapon does” maybe Fleur would feel the same or maybe that was just Nora.
Fleur felt that she was now more determined to pursue her training properly rather than trying to do it all on her own how she was doing before. Already able to feel the tips and techniques she’s already been told and shown by Nora was helping her a lot. How the alterations were making it better, with how she was doing before was only hurting her with the way she was trying it. She’s always liked the training part of it all hoping she’d never need to put it all into action into the real world away from sparing. Yet she knew she couldn’t doubt it happening knowing what the real world was like. How chaos could easily break out. Since moving and coming to Evermore she’s never felt at unease something that was far different from what she was used to back in her old native country. Happy she doesn't have to feel looking over your shoulder all the time. “You never know right” She added nodding her head agreeing with Nora how the world was never at peace. “It's good to have the skills, like another language” Fleur mused a little with how English wasn’t her first language but one she’s always known even if sometimes she can’t understand. Her accent was still something that most people can notice straight away is her accent. “So you're the person to watch out for?” She teased a little grinning back to Nora, already making a mental note of not going up against her when it comes to sparing.
She was more behind on others when it came to when they first started on training but she knew she probably wasn’t the only one. “My parents never told me that I was a Dhampir or anything. They weren’t the best parents, the ones who never wanted kids. I kind of had to nearly figure it all on my own but with little help at the start. By time I knew I was nearly 18” Sometimes she wondered what it would have been like to grow up in a properly dhampir family and community, seeing how things were like here. Maybe her upbringing and life would be a lot different. Yet she knew you couldn’t go back and change the past but could only move forward. “Good thing I’m a quick learner” She went on saying, laughing softly, not wanting for her to pity her, or be treated differently. “It’s nice, I already feel at home here” Already a welcome part of a new family, liking the close-knit communities there are. Seeing it as something special. Over the last few years she’s been trying to focus more on the mytherial powers rather than the physical, reading up and trying some runes herself. “I’ve done some but there’s some I’m still not good at. I think it might be the next thing I’ll look into getting help with” Not wanting to seem completely inexperienced which she wasn’t, but more of a person who needs to work on their skills. She wondered maybe she had to look into talking to Valeria to see who would be best to help her with her runes. “The red lights back home were always prettier, more edgier” She mused, still proud of her country. Missing it a little but knew she couldn’t go back there.
Now she was starting to get the hang of it all, the easier it would be to put it into action. Something she thought or hoped but knew it’s got to take her a lot of time and practise till she’s nearly as good as anyone else in the dojo let alone Nora. That's for sure. “I hope so” Now feeling more hopeful and determined. Almost feeling a boost of motivation to help her power through it for it to be something she can enjoy rather than being something she has to do. Having the wrong headframe before for it. “It was a bit weird for sure but I kind of always knew I was different but now in a good way” She smiled softly, it was something she was happy not one of the people who took it badly and freaked out at the beginning. “I can already feel it starting to happen” Feeling a sense of excitement to figuring out what she’s capable of and all that's to come.
“You never know indeed” any city was dangerous in its own right because there were always going to be people out there who thought the law didn’t apply to them and did cruel things to others for their own gain, there was never going to be a perfect world where things like that weren’t the unfortunate reality. Add onto that the fact that Evermore was a city full of the supernatural, including those who needed to feed on others and those involved in supernatural feuds and that only escalated everything “A very practical language” she responded and nodded her head “Hopefully one you’re lucky enough to not to need to use but” she shrugged slightly “the knowledge that you can protect yourself usually stops people in their tracks” because if you were confident you could fight back, an attacker could typically sense that.
She pressed her lips together then nodded slightly, well she could definitely understand having parents who didn’t care much for their child and the life they lead, her parents had single-handedly destroyed the life she had known, the reputation of their family name and the company they ran in one swoop after all “Ouch, I can’t even imagine how confusing it must have been for you to be suddenly thrown into a world you didn’t even know you were part of” luckily Nora had always known what she was and started her training pretty young. She could sense a fighting spirit in Fleur which she liked, some people did their dhampir training because they had to but she got the feeling she would fit in well here “That’s what we like to hear, we’ll make a fighter out of you yet” she was continuing to move through her usual training routine, each time she started a new move she would repeat it a few times until Fleur followed along and she would glance over to check her form “Make sure to bring your hands up closer to your face when you’re blocking, most people who don’t know how to fight, go for either the chest or the face” and she didn’t need to tell her which one hurt more.
She laughed and nodded “Well it sounds like I need to visit and check it out for myself sometime then” she responded and nodded her head, moving to some blocking maneuvers paired with a kick from behind which was pretty powerful, enough that her training back bounced back against the sheer force of the hit. She grinned in an amused fashion “Well you know what they say about being normal, it’s awfully boring” she laughed softly, she had never been seen as normal since the day that her parents decided to trash her whole family name, Nora had to learn to embrace being the girl who everyone whispered about and it definitely hadn’t been easy. Eventually, though she had managed to turn around the immediate thoughts people had of her and prove herself as her own person, she was sure Fleur could do the same with her training “You've got the fire you need, you just need to put in the hours, nothing is going to be perfect in this line without practice, so don’t let yourself get disheartened when it feels too tough” eventually she would break through it, just like Nora did when she was first training.
