The weight of the world on your shoulders is a heavy burden to bare, but for Adrien Rosberg it was a daily occurrence to feel that weight, he held it in his chest; The expectations of an entire city. Most assume that it is simple to make decisions when you are in a position to do so, that it will be an easy thing to do. Most people have not felt the looming threat of failure that would be judged by hundreds of thousands of people.

Adrien took that weight and owned it, using it to his advantage when he needed to, always fighting the pressure that threatened to cave in his life. This weight is caused by one simple role; Mayor. Adrien had been Mayor of Evermore for almost two full terms now, surviving his time in office through all of the stress, betrayal and even the mysterious massacre that occurred years ago. It takes tough skin to stand where he stood, tough skin that Adrien had been using his entire life.

Even from the very beginning he needed this trait of his to get through the strain of many, many years worth of education. From a young age Adrien was expected to be somebody one day, his parents constantly reminding him of the mounting pride that they held for him, their star. Born into a family of wealthy politicians and renown individuals of the community, how could he not have a form of expectancy when he had been thrust into such a successful family?

Adrien found the work side of school rather easy, even with the extra after school lessons his parents insisted that he attend. He was something of a smart ass, both logically and street wise. Despite being one of the smartest kids in every class growing up, he was also the ‘clown’, so to speak. Adrien cracked jokes, played pranks and always had a group of entertained peers surrounding him. To say he was apart of the popular cliche would be an understatement.

With all of the attention surrounding him there was only one person that managed to grab his attention each and every time they attempted to do so, without fail, her name was Rosa. Adrien became infatuated with her, they quickly grew to become best of friends. The two spent entire break times together, often wandering away from the crowd and gaining a few quiet moments together. At a young age this time was used to tell jokes, laugh and play games. As they grew older it turned into something else.

Adrien hadn’t realised, perhaps either did Rosa, but they had both been gradually falling for one another, eventually one afternoon during their getaway they confessed their feelings. It was like heaven in her arms, it felt better than anything to be in her presence, to soak up her personality and listen to her speak with the voice of an angel. However, there was one problem. Rosa did not come from the same background Adrien hailed, instead she was born into one of those less fortunate families, only just enough money and love to scrape by to the next paycheck.

This was not at all an issue in Adrien's eyes, but once his parents discovered their relationship when he was nearing the end of his secondary school years they flipped out, yelling and demanding an explanation why he would ever be fraternising with someone like her.  However much he loved his mother and father, nothing would let him forgive them for how they saw Rosa. He saw perfection in her heart, that was all that mattered to him.

Over time, once he had gone to University and began earning his degrees, their relationship blossomed and they began to speak about the prospect of their future; Moving in together, marriage, children. Adrien could see the sparkle of hope and wonder in her eyes whenever the subject came up, the same could be seen in his own eyes. Some time before completing his third bachelor's, this one in philosophy (Previously economics and political science), he bought a big, shiny diamond ring.

Adrien knew what her answer would be already and that an impressive rock wouldn’t be needed, but he loved her with all of his heart and desired her to have the best of the best. Along with his proposal would be his offer to move in together, he had already picked out a place and organised the buy, all that was left was to pop the question itself.

He had booked a table at the highest class restaurant he could find, doing everything in his power to ensure that it was perfect. They both wore their fanciest attire, Adrien sporting a black tuxedo and his fiance-to-be wore a dress he had bought for her earlier; A stunning violet ball gown styled dress. It was gorgeous, but not as gorgeous as the woman adorning said dress.

The night when as flawless as one could hope, the food was delicious and the service was just as good. Of course, it was the, “Yes, Adrien, of course!”, followed by a tight hug and many kisses that made the night truly memorable. It was the happiest night of his life so far. He knew that one day soon he would be meeting her at the altar, hearing about her pregnancy and seeing his children come into this world. Just thinking about their future together caused goosebumps.

It was when he came home the next day that his happiness would take a turn for the worse. Adrien had been anxious to tell his parents about their engagement, knowing that they had had their disapproval of Rosa in the past. But he knew that somewhere caught up in their world of politics and social status that they would see how she made him feel, that they would put aside their pride and accept her for his sake.

The response he received when he told them the good news was far from understanding or accepting. His parents proceeded to tear shreds off of him with their yells of anger and confusion at his actions, demanding several times, “Why on earth would you want to be with THAT sort of person for the rest of your life?!”. Their argument lasted almost an hour of off and on shouting mixed with the occasional heated debates. By the end of it his father had had enough, he gave Adrien an ultimatum: Family or Love.

It was not a decision that Adrien ever wanted to make, but at the end of everything he had already decided. He could never let Rosa fall from his life, not even if it meant living without his parents. Life without family was very different, yet not without its positives. For the first time in his life Adrien was left to pave his own path. In the years apart from his parents their relationship had blossomed like never before, they now had a daughter named Malia.

As well as being blessed with a beautiful little girl, Adrien had made his way onto the city council. He had plans to run for mayor in the next election, so he had to take the stepping stones to get there.  Opposing him in the running for mayorship will be none other than his father. Adrien never expected the public to vote for himself over his father, his father had been working as a positive force in the community for decades now.

Somehow, someway, he had won the favor of the masses and the election ended with his victory. His father approached him for the first time in years that same night, apologising for his past actions and voiced his hope for a rekindling of their relationship in the future. Adrien stopped him short, telling him to not bother with the act. It was obvious that his father only wished to have that relationship to be close to someone with power and retain a sense of control.

Upon arriving home the night of the election, Adrien was greeted by a stranger who introduced herself as Riley Carabello. She explained who she was, a concerned member of the public, but also an important member of something much, much greater. That night Adrien learned everything about Evermore and it’s hidden supernatural entities, he even found out that it had it’s own form of government with each species have a representative known as an Ambassador.

It was all very confronting, at first he had no idea how to react or feel, or if he even believed her. But she had invited him to their HQ the next day, offering him a chance to find out everything first hand. When he arrived at the base of operations he was briefed on practically everything, the species and their abilities, the Ambassadors and current correlation status between these factions, learning that there are several conflicts between them but most are working tirelessly to create peace.

After the shock of learning all of this had somewhat subdued itself, Adrien questioned why they had contacted him. From there he also found out that every mayor had been offered a position in something the organisation called the Privy Council. The Privy Council was made up of influential members of the organisation and general public who share the role of having a say in important decisions for the faction. Of course, this offer was optional, but it was not like Adrien was about to turn it down.

And so years went by like weeks, Adrien did amazingly well as mayor, he managed to become one of the most popular in his position in a very short time, his efforts evident by the change he managed to make with new policies and implementation of community driven programs that benefit the city as a whole. It was an understatement to say that his actions were substantially improving the everyday life of humans and the supernatural. Evermore is everyone's home, after all, not just the humans.

However, there can’t be success without downfall. On the unfortunate night of May 24th, 2014, a terror swept the city. A massacre that shook the very foundations of Evermore. For Adrien it struck home rather brutally, his wife had been coming home late that night and was killed. He didn’t know by what, why and if she suffered, but the event caused him to go into something of a hermit stage.

For weeks the mayor had stayed in his home, only speaking to his daughter every couple days. Rosa had been his world.. His safety. Now she was just gone, without a warning, just snatched from his arms. Adrien spent his nights pouring over photo albums from their past and drinking everything they had in their liquor cabinet. After some time, his daughter Malia had had enough of his isolation and took it into her own hands by confronting him one night while he sat alone in his study, demanding that he snap out of it.

It was one of the lowest points in his life, losing his wife changed Adrien forever. His usual bubbly, outgoing personality had been replaced with a colder, brooding one. Not to say the he was never happy, but the parts of his life that previously made him feel joy were mostly gone, most of those times involved his wife, but now that she was gone…

Despite losing his wife, Adrien continued his work as mayor and within the organisation, still being the best he could be in both departments. No one ever spoke to him about his wife, the ones who did quickly learned that he would sooner jump off a cliff than say her name. The only one left that he could bare to speak to was his daughter, who he kept close and became rather protective over after that night.
