Many mistakes often define a person, yet behind those mistakes are hidden achievements that many choose to ignore. Ava had made mistakes throughout her lifetime, most of the time having those mistakes triggered by her desire to please others and fit in. However there will always be that one mistake that she could never forgive herself for, neither could her family. It only takes one moment to change your life, although it doesn't particularly mean it is for the worse, no matter how morbid that mistake may have been.

To explore the moment that changed it all for Ava, we start from the beginning, 24 years ago in the depths of South Dakota forest land. She grew up in the wild, so to speak, her family of seven living together in a cabin far from civilization. Their decision to live this way was not to undermine the modern society, but rather embrace their heritage as Therianthropes. The Adams family were proud Lycanthropes, her parents often boasting tales of their ancestors who turned the tides of wars, defeated great and powerful opponents and sometimes stories of tragedy, it really varied depending on what happened in the day, their parents choosing to base these stories around lessons that their children could learn.

Ava loved her family, born as the youngest sibling she often copped the brunt of the testosterone her four brothers usually decided to throw about with friendly brawls and fights. With this kind of atmosphere it was safe to say that Ava grew up as something of a rough nut, pouncing into action whenever her brothers decided to start a scrap after dinner. This was indeed a good trait for a Therian in her position, her parents had taught each of their children how to hunt like a wolf before they had even undergone their first transformation, taking them out for hunts most nights.

However much Ava adored her family, there were always the downsides. She was a rather clumsy girl, a lot of the time running into doorways, walls, trees and her family members, this sometimes led to some teasing from her brothers. They would taunt her almost daily about her nerves and clumsy nature, at first it felt quite hurtful, but after living with the fact for many years it became a staple for her daily routine, learning to live with the criticism, this adding to the tough skin she built up over the years.

Ava watched as each of her brothers came of age and undergo their own personalized coming of age ceremony that their parents would host somewhere deeper in the forest they lived in. The personalisation of their ceremony would reflect their personality, for example her eldest brother, whom came of age when Ava was only five years old, was a brave, strong yet sort of dull minded. His ceremony encompassed all of those things by having the skins of their previous hunts displayed on the surrounding trees, their family chanting tribal-like melodies as he had blood markings drawn upon his face by their father, talking in an ancient language he insisted was formed by the original Therianthropes, though there was no way of confirming this to be truth or not. After the ceremonies, all members of the family that could turn would do so in unison, using the newly matured one as their green light, then they would hunt all night, until daybreak.

She was eager for her own ceremony, considering her clumsy nature she figured that her family would dress up the area with bad paintings or something. But it was quite the opposite, in fact once she had reached maturity and the day before the first full moon on which she would turn, her family led her to a rather beautiful area; Flowers littering the forest floor, carvings in the nearby trees told the story of her upbringing and family, glowflies hung at head level just sort of hovering through the area. It was everything she had hoped for.

One by one her family, who had all had their own ceremony by now and undergone their first transformations, gave her words of kindness and wisdom, her father being last, who spoke with compassion, “Ava… You are the moon in my sky and the star of my eye, I believe in you, please, believe in us. We are stronger united. Family forever”. The words caused a wide grin to spread across her cheeks. Although she knew that the change would be… Painful, she would embrace the experience as her family had done before her. Ava was determined not to disappoint

It was indeed painful, it was pain beyond that of which Ava could comprehend, but she bit the bullet and dealt with it, her parents had told it that it gets easier over time, after a while it may even become painless. With this mind, she pulled through the transformation with the help of her surrounding family, who also transformed with her. By the time the full moon hit its Apex the entire Adams family had turned into fully fledged Lycanthropes, their furs resembling the black night above them. With this the seven howled in unison, a loud echoing howl that resounded throughout the forest.

The hunt began, Ava ran on all fours with the rest of her family, the wind whipping in her fur, she had never felt more alive. The hunt after the ceremony always happened the same way, first the family would hunt as a pack, chasing down a deer as a team. After, they would let the newly turned Lycanthrope hunt on their own to prove their individual worth. Ava wandered the forest for a while until her nose picked up a scent and she bolted in the direction of her prey, determined to track it down with swift deadliness.

Ava could hear the sound of its paws on the leaves ahead, having never personally taken down any form of prey on her own before, she felt the nerves strike her form. She could see the dark outline ahead of her as she stalked it from the shadows, making it out as a small bear or something similar. Quickly leaping forward, her eyes held tightly shut as she felt her teeth sink into it’s neck, using the technique she had been taught she quickly bit down as hard as she could, hearing the animal whimper in pain she began thrashing her maw from side to side in attempt to break the animal's neck. SNAP.

Ava had indeed succeeded in killing the animal, releasing it from her mouth she opened her eyes as the sound of her family members grew closer, coming to admire her kill. But horror flooded her body as her eyes opened to see the bloodied body of one of her oldest brothers laying limp in front of her. Slowly taking steps back she heard a loud bark from behind her, her father standing taller than the other wolves that are her family, he barked again as the rest of the family begun a low growl.

Ava could feel their eyes upon her, anger in their growls, hate in their stare. She began to whimper in an attempt to grab at their empathy, but it was no use, she had just killed their son and their brother. Her brother. The reality of the situation was looming upon her and she could feel the army of emotions towering inside of her and in front of her. The whole family began to bark in her direction, advancing upon her as she back away, eventually turning from them and running, realizing that she was being shunned, that they wanted her to leave. Which is what she did, Ava ran for miles and miles, until the day finally broke and she transformed back to a human.

Ava wandered the countryside for the next few years, hiding out in the back end of country towns and finding food by hunting at night. Eventually she heard by word of mouth about a place that accepted newcomers of all shapes and sizes, a place where the supernatural was free to be who they are, with certain restrictions regarding the locals of course. Ava immediately set out for this place, having spent the better half a decade alone and unsure whether she would survive the night, this was something she needed. Upon arriving, she quickly sought out refuge in the one place she felt at home; The woods. There, she came in contact with the Therianthrope Faction, there she found her new home, new friends and new opportunities. Despite finding a new life, Ava is still haunted by her past, often being awoken in the night by the fear of being shunned again.
