Ava's parents met in Australia where Ava's father, Nicholai was a surf teacher and her mother, Cora, a surf model. They soon found out that they shared a gift, the element of water. The two lovers soon moved to Hawaii and had a beautiful child named Ava Cordelia Delaney, Cordelia meaning daughter of the sea. Ava grew up by her own private beach where her parents would tell her stories about the Initia tribe, beings who could control the elements. Her parents wanted her to be by the beach at all times so it soon became an agreement that Ava's mother would home-school her and her father would teach her how to ride the waves.

A few months before Ava's thirteenth birthday, her tribal tattoo appeared. Nicholai and Cora couldn't be prouder and instantly began training the young Initia. They discovered Ava had a natural talent with her water abilities and that her gift was an absolute blessing. On Ava's sixteenth birthday, the family decided to move to Evermore City in Colorado. Evermore was perfect for the small family, for it gave Ava the chance of freedom, freedom she didn't have in Hawaii. Ava had the chance to be around people just like her and in turn her element grew in power. 

One night, Ava came home to find bodies everywhere within her tribe. It was a massacre. No matter where she looked, all Ava could see was blood. Her first instinct was to run home to find her parents but she was too late. Covered in blood, her parents were no longer there for her. Now an orphan, she screamed and cried for hours over the bodies of her dead mother and father. After what felt like forever, Ava was dragged away from the only people she ever truly cared about. Everything that once mattered to her had been torn away from her.

That traumatic night, something changed in Ava, she now had a darkness to her that came out when she couldn't handle her feelings. Usually as calm as the still ocean, if you say the wrong things, Ava will become a powerful storm, ruining everything in her path. Ava is a sweet girl, but if you do something that upsets her, you might just wish you were dead. After Ava's parents had died, she looked up to Aurora as an adult figure and someone to talk to. If it was about what had happened to her parents or if it was that she needed help with controlling her water element.
