Ben Whitman, was a born to his mother and father at a time when his father shouldn't have been having kids. His father was addicted to drugs and was irresponsible and made bad decisions which ended up with him being sent to jail and Ben’s mother having to raise him singularly. Ben never had siblings and he didn't mind he liked being an only child; he liked the attention he got from his parents from being their only son. Despite being an only child he was not spoiled at all and loved life. He was happy when he was able to make people laugh, he enjoyed trying to make his mother smile as a child and would spend time making her laugh at dinner and just having fun in general.

As Ben got older he wasn’t sure what he wanted to do with his life as a profession. He loved animals and being with them so eventually he decided that he would take the study required to become a vet. However when he was seventeen he began to have an extreme burning sensation in his arm. It hurt and was bothersome and with that he ended up with a weird looking tattoo. He didn't like tattoos ever and so he didn't really want it and it confused him as to why he had it. He ended up then began to have frightening visions of the shifter animals, each coming towards him in the dream and inflicting pain to him, he was afraid and he didn’t know what was happening to him.

One night after the dream he met a man named Grayson, the man explained to him what he was becoming and what it would mean, Ben wasn’t ready to leave his family or his life so he promised Grayson that if he could make the visions go away then one day Ben would find his way back to the clan to protect their clan as best he could. Grayson kept his end of the bargain and the shifter ritual was performed on Ben allowing him to become the animal which chose him, the arctic fox, a clever and cunning animal who made wise decisions and kept away from danger.

Ben accepted what he was but chose to let that side of himself remain detached for a good part of his life, he went to school and worked hard to eventually become a vet. Working hard until he was forty-five looking like he was still a mere twenty he finally made the decision to keep good on his promise to Grayson and tracked the shifter clan down to Evermore city. He had changed his name many a time in the lead up to arriving in Evermore but this time when he started over he wanted to return back to the name which had been chosen to be a shifter, Ben Whitman.
