Spring break is a time when alcohol flows free and morals are low. It’s a time for students to let their hair down and go a little wild before they have to knuckle down and study for exams that may decide their futures. Parties were plentiful and it didn’t matter what your was or what your major was or where you were on the class rankings, everyone could just be. After it’s all said and done you clean yourself up put back on your normal face and return to normality.
At least that’s how it’s supposed to be. It’s funny how one little plus sign on a little white stick can change everything. Polly Blossom had everything going for her. She was hot, she was smart and now she was pregnant. After her initial meltdown and dropping the bomb on her parents that their twenty year old daughter was pregnant, she pulled herself back together and tried to figure out the best plan of action. She couldn’t remember the name of boy she had drunkenly slept with so she realised she was on her own.
Though her parents were supportive throughout her pregnancy and her extended family were there for her nothing prepared her for actually birthing her child and holding him in her arms. The baby had weird scar like birthmarks on his shoulder blades but Polly didn’t care, he was her world. She named him Cooper after her father since the babe would never know his own. Despite her whole future being put on hold for this one little squirming bundle, Polly would make the exact same decisions all over again if she was a do over.
Cooper’s childhood was pretty boring as childhoods went. He went to a plain middle school and moved on to an equally boring high school. He graduated middle of the pack and no one expected him to amount to much. For about a year after he left school this was pretty much true. It wasn’t until he was handed a recruitment flyer for the local police force that anything interesting happened in his life. It wasn’t something the then nineteen year old had really thought about or had very much intrest in but he had failed on getting a job and there was no way in hell he would get into a decent college with the type of grades he had so he just went with the flow and signed up when they had the open night.
The academy was tough going. Cooper was young and naive, and was strangely good at anything that involved strength even though he was a small lanky dude. This did not buy him any friends and he considered just dropping out several times. Somehow he managed to get through the gruelling months of training and qualified as a rookie blue. Unfortunately like so many things in Cooper’s life it seemed that getting a job in his own district was not going to happen. He didn’t have an “in” as many of the other rookies did so if he wanted to actually join the force he had to search elsewhere and with no contacts he had little hope of getting a decent job. Luckily one of the old captains who had conducted the training took pity on him and gave him the name of one of his drinking buddies who worked just outside Miami.
Moving away from his family was a big deal for Copper. He’d barely left his own state and now he was moving across the country on his own. Miami was definitely a big change from his sleepy little town and Cooper was apprehensive about going. His mother tried to be happy about him finally getting a job but he could tell she was sad about her baby leaving. It was with a sad sign that Cooper packed up his life in a measly three boxes and moved across the country to start his new life as Officer Blossom MDPD.
Miami was no better than home. He had no friends, the city was loud and what’s more he was way out of his depth. He’d definitely hadn’t received the same level of training as his fellow rookies and he was ready to admit defeat and go back to his small town where he belonged. It was something simple that changed the path he was on on.
Her name was Alexis and she was the estranged great granddaughter to the current head honcho on the Miami drug scene. Mattheo Riccardo’s word was law on the streets and Miami Dai had been trying to bring him down for years. His youngest grandson had cut ties and had tried to live a clean life taking his infant daughter with him. Lexi knew of her family's business and thought it interested her to no end she stayed out of it out of respect for her father.
Cooper met Lexi by accident. He'd been in Miami roughly a month and was a dive bar trying to build up the courage to tell his mama that he was a coward and couldn't take the city life. Lexi had walked in in a stunning low cut red dress and had decided she liked the way he looked all sadly sat at the bar. She liked to take weak willed men and molding them exactly how she wanted them. She had very specific criteria and it seemed Cooper ticked all the right boxes.Next thing he knew he was being dragged along by the whirlwind known as Alexis Riccardo and there was nothing he could do about it.
Work took a sudden one eighty from that night. He promptly got transferred to vice and suddenly found himself undercover. They wanted him to collect any information that Lexi let slip about her family no matter how small a detail. Cooper was thrown in at the deep end, he had no idea what he was doing as they built a fake life for him to live while he became Lexi’s plaything. He was given a job at the local Krispy Kreme and a backstory involving flunking out of the academy. Cooper really didn't understand way they were going to all that trouble for an estranged family member but the department was so desperate for information they were willing to try anything.
This went on for about two years. Copper gathered intelligence that lead to one or two big busts and Lexi was none the wiser. He really didn't see why she kept him around but he was counting his lucky stars she did because after a turf war was ignited between the Riccardos and their main rivals Cooper was suddenly dragged into the middle of everything when Lexi’s father was murdered in his own front yard in broad daylight on a hot sunny June afternoon.
Lexi became a different person overnight. She joined her great grandfather in the business and Cooper once again found himself way out of his depth as his job went from pretend boyfriend to full on gang undercover work. He still worked at the Krispy Kreme as a cover but after his shifts ended he found himself becoming Lexi’s get away driver as she essentially turned into a vengeful hitman. His life was spinning out of control and he was terrified that he was going to make a wrong step and end up in the ground.
Just as one death threw his life into turmoil another brought calm. Cooper’s handler and the big brass were beginning to get worried with the amount of bodies that were piling up so they planned a SWAT strike in the hopes of arresting the major players and putting a stop to the turf war that had been plaguing Miami. Cooper was all for this plan. He wanted out, undercover work was not something he was cut out for.
It seemed that the faiths were against him though. As soon as the SWAT team put their plan into place everything went to shit. Somehow the Riccardos caught wind of the strike and decided to set up their rivals in an attempt to wipe them out. The other gang was far more aggressive than the Riccardos and came well armed. Matheo men thought they were going to be able to handle everything but he couldn’t have been more wrong. The resulting firefight left most of Riccardo dead including Matheo himself. The SWAT team had arrested most of the rest off the gang members but somehow Lexi had escaped.
Cooper had taken a slugger to the stomach during the exchange and had been rushed to the hospital. The doctors were surprised at how well he was healing but that wasn’t really a great surprise to Cooper, he’d always been strangely resilient. His near death experience had shook him.Up until now he’d mostly been floating along someone else at the reigns directing his life down a path he wasn’t sure he was comfortable with. Now he was determined to take the driving seat and take back control of his own life.
It just so happened that someone else snatched them up before he could even think about it fully. Lexi had snuck into his room that night and announced her great plans for the future. She had somehow gotten away uncaved from the firefight and had escaped the polices net and was now determined to take over her family's legacy and raze the Riccardo clan from the ashes, eliminating anyone who stood in her way. In the four years Cooper had been undercover as her fake boyfriend he’d never wanted “out” more.
In two short years Lexi turned a small time local Miami gang into a drug empire that spanned a large section of the east coast and had a reputation that could not be ignored. Many attempts had been made to try take over but Lexi fought them all back gaining many loyal followers in the process. The case regarding the Riccardo family had been upgraded from gang to mob status and had been handed to the FBI and as such Cooper had new bosses who expected more information and tried to pressure him into influencing Lexi but he knew that that would never work. He was nothing more than arm candy in regards rank within the fresh minted mob, he attended meetings if Lexi wanted him there but he was never asked his opinion nor acknowledged. Lexi liked to talk to herself when she was home in the penthouse she had moved them into and that was where Cooper gathered most of the vital information. Trying to use any other method would just make her suspicious and blown six years of work down the drain.
Twenty fifteen was the year both Cooper and Lexi learned about the existence of the supernatural in the world. The year was still young when astronomical event occurred that changed every aspect of Cooper’s life. He had actually been enjoying himself for once, the poolside party Lexi was hosting was mellow the music soft and champagne sweet. The night sky was clear, the milky way shining bright and for once the Riccardo household could have been like any other in the magic city. It all had to come to a crashing end as comet streaked across the night sky changing the supernatural community forever.
Cooper had been refilling champagne flutes for himself and Lexi when someone started screaming out poolside. He didn’t have time to react as an excrutiating pain took hold of his body making him crumble to the ground behind the bar. Chaos took over the party as people randomly fainted or cried out in pain. Cooper mostly heard about what happened second hand as he had been unable to move due to the pain that had taken over. His back was on fire and felt like it was being ripped apart. He thought he had been shot but he couldn’t remember hearing hearing a gunshot. He gave up his battle with consciousness, excepting the darkness with only one regret that he had failed all his mother's efforts to turn him into someone decent.
To his surprise he awoke again two days later feeling better than he had ever felt before. Lexi slept fitfully in a chair by his bedside frown lines creasing her brow. Her eyes snapped open instantly when he moved under the covers. The conversation that followed was an interesting one. Apparently supernaturals lived amongst humans and he was one something called a Nephilim. He’d never been so confused in his life but Lexi had solid evidence that he couldn’t ignore.
It was a struggle to come to terms with everything that happened that night and trying to inform his superiors that he had actually been part angel this whole time had been a barrel of laughs but everything had smoothened out in the last two years and had returned to semi normal. Lexi had used the discovery of the supernatural to her advantage and had started making contacts within the community. Contacts like Abraxas Bradford mobster extraordinaire. She was fascinated with the man and had decided to go to Evermore city to meet the him, something which could only mean trouble.
