The day started off the same as usual, A cold wind Rocketed through the Old forgotten house, Shutters suddenly opening up and slamming back like a single voice crying out in the Forgotten room, the scene outside the window however, was peaceful with moon so stupendous, with its edge hacked out by the darkness. The Crescent shape sharp, stabbing holes in the Darkness, illuminating its surroundings as if it were a large torch light.

But this morning there was another great sight. A mother giving birth is usually seen as a beautiful thing, but right on the edge of a war that seemed to be brewing under the surface of every being A birth was not a happy occasion. In fact this birth  was only the beginning of a string of very unfortunate Events.

May Morgan, A teenage intern at one of Evermore’s Editing firms, was just your average girl. Until however, Her boss took a liking to her. Her boss whose name was protected by a series of lawyers, was double Mays age and gave her an ultimatum.
Sleep with him. Or lose everything.

She chose to sleep with him, Cradling her simple life with affection and love. But she ended up with both options. She missed a pill and ended up pregnant, the only man she’d had slept with being her unloving and stern boss. As soon as she told him, The man had her fired, He did however set her up in a nice flat, all expenses paid and gave her a ‘child fund’ in return for her never mentioning his name and never seeing him again.

She took this graciously and gratefully, like an idiot. He first son, Cyrus Morgan, was born.

Cyrus was a quiet boy, He didn’t cry as loudly as others and was able to be left to self-sooth. This became a godsend because, whenever May looked at her beautiful, bouncing baby boy in his crib, she could only see ‘that’ man. The money she’d spent to build up her home was his too...She soon became depressed with being his possession, and Cyrus was left to bring himself up.

Having a mother with depression was hard. May turned to alcohol when Cyrus was 5, and so this little bundle had to raise himself. He took himself to school and brought himself home, he did his own homework silently and even made his own food. It was mostly cereal or sandwiches, but it kept him happy.

At the age of ten, May used to leave Cyrus alone in the house. The neighbor, a small old woman that allowed Cyrus to call her Nana, used to nip in every now and then, knowing the struggles May went through and how young Cyrus was.

Nana would invite him in for home cooked meals, she taught him manners and would help him with buy clothes and would always make sure his cupboards and fridge was full. May was so drunk most days she didn’t notice when the cupboards had been restocked, nor did she care that much either.

When Cyrus turned 11, His mother came home with a swell in her belly. Little Cyrus didn’t know what was happening until his mother came home one day with another baby. Jay was born weighing only 6lbs and was left in his crib. This was when Nana drew the line. She would come in every two hours to check on little Jay, She’d sit May down or shove the woman aside when she tried to stop her, but May knew it was for the best.

Cyrus fed Jay through the night, sleeping beside the crib to make sure his little brother never came to any harm. Cyrus made sure that Jay grew up loved, A love that Cyrus hadn’t had.

The days went on like this, Nana would look in on them every day as the boys grew up and would make sure their mother didn’t spend the entire month's money on alcohol.

When Cyrus was 16, Nana stole the bank card from May and gave it to him, giving him control of the spending. May would beg and beg, but Cyrus was stern. He’d give her a little sum of money to be spent on alcohol, but when it was gone he’d say, it was gone. He also got a job at the local fish-shop, The owners allowing him to stay in the empty flat beside it whenever he needed space.

At the age of 17, weeks from his 18th birthday, Cyrus begun to get a burning sensation on his hand. He thought at first he’d scratched himself, but it become hotter and hotter as the days drew on. He went to Nana with the ailment and even asked his mother, but they said they didn’t know.

What Cyrus was yet to discover, is that mere days before his eighteenth, after vivid dreams of the Shifter faction within Evermore. A small, Moon tattoo appeared over the top of his hand where the burning sensation was. The moon looked like a tattoo and so that's what he told Nana and his mother what it was.

Cyrus took a trip that day, towards the Shifter faction to seek out their Ambassador. He was told by a few members that he’d have to go through a ritual, He got most of his information from the CEO of a major editing firm in Evermore, coincidently his father. Not that either of them knew that.

The ritual of sorts, from Cyrus’ eyes was more like torture. The shifting itself, he found, didn’t hurt too much. It was when he shifted half way, A wing from at arm and half a beak while his frame was shrouded into blue smoke. Hidden from the people by this sudden fog, He struggled on to shift fully.

When the blue smoke disappeared, what was once a shaggy haired scrawny man, stood a proud looking Bald Eagle. Instantly the eagle took off and did a few circles in the air before landing, the blue fog appearing once more, billowing out of the Eagles pores and after a few seconds, Cyrus stood there, looking around.

He was congratulated and welcomed into the faction with open arms. But at the side, he spotted someone not invited. Jay, a mere human, stood with a look of pure envy.

When Cyrus returned home, his mother had his bags packed and Nana simply stood helplessly in the doorway. Jay had told May that Cyrus was more like his father than they’d thought, not that anyone knew of Cyrus’ father. But in her drunken state, May threw Cyrus to the curb. So he went to the only place he knew he was welcome. The Flat beside the fish-shop. The owners very happily let Cyrus move in, as long as he worked more hours, and so he accepted graciously.

And that's where he stayed, In the flat beside a fish-shop, living off his wage, the money from his father and cigarettes.
