Born June 20 in Chicago, Illinois, Edward was the first born and precious gem of Charles and Elizabeth Masen. The Masen’s were a family that lived by their loyalty and honor. At least, that was until a massacre ripped through the place they once called home; and when they heard the heart-breaking news that some of their friends and family had fallen victims in the massacre, they knew they had to to put an end to this bloody destruction.

As the Masen’s went about putting an end to these brutal killings with other people who’d also lost people they’d loved. Elizabeth soon discovered that she was once again with child, and Charles insisted that his wife remained at home with Edward. It was quickly saw by many that Elizabeth wasn’t handling this pregnancy well at all, however, determined to go full term with her second child. She decided to call David and Diana to assist her whilst she struggled with the pregnancy. Although it seemed even calling in help wasn’t going to make this pregnancy any easier; Edward watched his beloved mother grow weaker with every passing month. All he could was hope that a miracle would happen, but sadly it never did happen. His mother continued to grow weak, and only a couple of weeks before his mother was expected to give birth. Everything changed.

His mother went into early labor; and before he could even find his father to bring him to her side. His mother had given birth to a beautiful baby girl that she named Claire before she passed away, and as Charles finally arrived home to find his daughter crying and his wife’s lifeless body in their bed. It quickly became obvious to Edward that his father wasn’t able to see past his beloved’s death, and when he saw his father’s reaction toward his new sister Claire. The young boy feared that his father wasn’t going to accept her.

Wanting to keep his sister safe Edward quickly became her protector, and when his father lost his temper and lashed out at everyone that was in his sight. He risked every little piece of his being to protect the new little gem that had entered his life, however, before he could get far enough to keep his sister safe. His father was right in front of him; and as he stood in fear holding his sister. He was shocked to see his father pulling them both into his arms and breaking down in tears. His father had accepted her. It was just the thought that he wasn’t there by his wife’s side that hurt him the most, but before the family could return home. Edward hit the ground with his sister in his arms, and as he looked up in shock he saw his father standing in front of him as his life slowly left him.

Before he could even react to the horrific scene, David Hawkins had showed up whisked him and his sister away, and feeling as though his father had been left there as bait. Edward lashed out and demanded that they return to help him, but it was too late. He knew his father was gone; and as they arrived at a small cottage that was hidden in the woods. He demanded to know what was going on, and that was when everything became clear when he saw Diana Hawkins turn back into her human form. She was a shifter. How was this possible? She seemed so normal; and yet here she was turning into different animals in front of him.

Edward wouldn't let what he saw get in the way of him protecting his sister from the dangers out there. He quickly distanced himself from everyone; and before he could even get used to being a proper big brother. He quickly began to realize that he was going to need a lot more help than he thought, and that was when he began to let the Hawkins family finally help him. Edward watched closely as the time went by, he began to realize that Claire might end up calling David and Diana-mom and dad, and that was when he made the choice to ask them if they’d be his adoptive parents, but before he could even finish his sentence. They’d already told him that his parents had made an agreement with them that if anything were to happen, they’d be the ones to raise him and his sister, and know that no matter where their parents are, they loved them very much, and that was when Edward finally accepted his new life.

As the years went on and he and his sister grew into young adults hee began to notice some serious changes that he’d never seen before, and then he began to have horrific nightmares that would leave him waking up in a cold sweat. He started to believe that he was losing his mind, but worked hard to try and find out answers about what was happening to him, he asked David and Diana to help him, and that was when he finally learned everything about his parents. In fact, he learned things that he never even dreamed were true about them. His parents were also shifters; and at one point in his father’s life he was the leader of a clan that lived in New Mexico; as he continued to listen to the story of his parents. He soon heard the whaling screams of David and Diana’s elder children Donna and Connor. They were going through the same thing he was, but unlike him. They’d grow up understanding the lives they’d one day be living.

Edward was told not to let the changes that were happening get to him he began to see why they didn’t fear it because it wasn’t something to fear. In fact, it was a gift that he was going to live and enjoy. So instead of him waking up in fear of the nightmares that would haunt him until his birthday; he learned to watch and see what was going to happen in them so he knew not to fear what was to come. At least, that is what he tried to do until he woke up with this horrible burning pain that was stabbing his inner arm; and when he looked to see what was going on. He noticed a sun-shaped tattoo appearing on his arm; and before he could even get a chance to get used to the mark. His new adoptive siblings Donna and Connor were in his room flashing off their marks, and that was when he noticed that their marks weren’t in the same place as his.

He was quickly woke the next morning by his sister; and as he listened to her ramble on about moving to a place called Evermore City. He couldn’t help but think that she was making the move up, but when he walked downstairs to see the family packing boxes. He was confused as to why they’d want to move; and when they explained that Evermore City was a place Diana had once lived and helped her blend in as a shifter. He quickly began to pack all of his belongings too.

Before he could even finish packing, he began to hear voices echoing through his mind, he couldn't get them to shut up. It wasn’t until he turned to see that he was alone in his room. That he quickly ran to David and Diana for help; and when they looked at the clock and noticed that it was a couple of hours before midnight. Diana quickly rushed Edward to the car; and drove as fast as she could to Evermore City. Where she was greeted by her cousins who helped her get Edward to the right help; and as Edward began to feel as though he was being ripped in two. It wasn’t until he heard people changing or in his mind at the time mumbling over him that finally began to relax; and once the changing died down and he felt the pain lingering away. He was shocked to see that he’d turned into his amazing lion that stood tall and fearless. He’d finally been tapped by his shifter animal; and by the next morning. The rest of the Hawkins family had arrived to see that Edward was a much happier person than he was before the change.

It took some time for him to fully get to understand the shifter animal he’d become. He saw that his sister was slowly drifting away from him, and that was when he found out that his sister had decided to go and live with their adoptive sister Summer in her apartment on the borders of the shifter community. And that was also when he realized it was the time that he started to get his life on track. Returning to school and focusing on his studies. Edward was glad to finally feel alive again, and when he managed to land himself a spot in one of the local colleges. He began to feel as if there was light at the end of the tunnel of darkness; and as he began to think of his future. He decided that he was going to try and be just like his father. A firefighter.
