They say time heals and makes us forget but when it came to the life of the Eric Watson, memories of his past will never be erased…
On a cold December night in Evermore City, the Watson family were blessed with the arrival of their first child, a boy. Eric grew into an amazingly intelligent child, one who excelled in everything he did and though he was highly praised for his success at such a young age by his mother, his father couldn’t care less about his endeavours. The eldest Watson paid little to no attention to his only child like his wife had and even when the parents welcomed another child, he was hardly in either child’s life. Soon came the accusations of infidelity with how late he’d be home which led to a rough upbringing for Eric.
As Eric turned 18, his high school graduation came and went, his father missing the ceremony as well as the party his mom had gone out of her way to throw. He was used to his behaviour, however, so his absence didn’t affect her one bit. His behavior did change the moment he officially became an adult, though, and with obvious reason. While his mother was a human, his father was a born Initia. His children were aware of what he was as well as the other species they’d been living amongst for the past couple of years. Once he changed and became more into how he was doing, Eric knew exactly why; he was hoping he’d become a Initia like him. Months past after his birthday and when the tribal tattoo all Initia’s sported didn’t appear on his skin, realization that he was human sunk in and her father didn’t like it one bit. He returned to his old self, ignoring his eldest son as well as his wife, blaming her for giving him a human child. His sole focus from then on remained on Eric’s little sister, Amelie who was only 14 at the time.
The next couple of years went by in a blur with his father paying no attention to her and his mother but showering his younger sister with the love a father should give his children. Her father was a conceited man, however, and his affection was for one thing, an Initia child who he could train to be like him. Things didn’t necessarily go his way, though, when Amelie’s 18th birthday came around and the tribal tattoo had yet to appear on her skin. They waited for a few days and all signs lead to one thing; Amelie was human. Their father was furious and it was obvious he didn’t care about his little family because the moment he found out he’d been given human children, he fled, vowing to never see them again. Eventually, Eric found out he’d remarried and his wife had actually given him Initia children. It didn’t affect him, nor did it her mother and sister. They were used to his mistreatment of them so finding out he’d moved on was a relief.
His mother was growing old as the years went on and in order to support her small family, Eric applied for a job at Evermore General once he’d come across an ad that said they were looking for a new receptionist. His interviewer loved him right away and he was handed the position before the interview came to end and the fact that he’d gotten a good job made his mother happy.
While working at the hospital part time, Eric was also going to school. His mind was completely blank when it came to what he wanted to do but what he did know was that he wanted to go into the medical field. Seeing doctors and nurses help save other people’s lives inspired him and after going to community college, he went straight into medical school. There, he learned about different surgeons from cosmetic surgeons to Neurologists. Everything excited him but as they went into speaking about Cardiothoracic surgery, in specific, Eric realized how much more interesting organ surgical treatment were. The thought of helping someone who suffered with an organ decease and bettering them was what he wanted to do.
Another couple of years went by and after managing to graduate a little early than most with his grades, alone, Eric landed a job as one of Evermore Generals Cardiothoracic Surgeons. He continued to support his mom and sister and would usually be home to spend time with them before the sun set. However, one night she’d worked overtime, and he’d forever regret that decision…
As he parked in the driveway of her family’s home, things seemed off. Eric had noticed how dark it was at first and as he made her way inside, things were quiet. It was too early for anyone to be asleep so the question that hung in the air was: where were they? Suddenly, a blood curdling scream was heard and he raced towards the direction and as she entered the living room, the sight before him was terrifying.
His little sister was unconscious on the floor, blood dripping from her forehead and his mother was being restrained by a Valkyr who had his teeth deep into her neck. He drank and drank and his mother was quickly losing color. In his state of panic, Eric tried to pry the much stronger bloodsucker from his mom, only for him to punish him by ripping his moms throat out right in front of him. He vividly remembered all the blood he saw till this day and the look on the Valkyr’s face as he licked the leftover blood from his lips before fleeing. He’d fallen to hus knees and called an ambulance but though he was aware his sister would be fine, he knew his mother was dead. How was he supposed to mourn? The entire incident made him traumatized and though he didn’t know how the leech had gotten into their home, he didn’t want to.
Eric refused to take time off of work because of how much he loved his job. The only day he did take of was the day of his mother’s funeral but when he returned, the apologies and remorseful looks he’d get angered him. Things stayed that way for weeks but like most things, the incident was forgotten. He, however, could never forget. Though humans helped create a treaty between every species, he still had a hatred for Valkyrs. Every single one of them, good or bad, is his enemy.
