Evelyn Hartley
Faceclaim: Shantel VanSanten
Species: Pure Nephilim
Age: 26
Status: In The Community
Family: Joslyn Hartley

Evelyn Gabrielle Hartley was the first born child in the Hartley family, coming into the world at 11:47 PM on September 4th, 1989. Her younger sister, Joslyn Ariel Hartley, was born one hour and thirteen minutes later, due to complications during her birth, pushing her date of birth to September 5th, 1989 at 1:00 AM. Their parents, Kelsey and Adam Hartley, originated from Evermore City, Colorado but had moved to London, England during Kelsey’s pregnancy rather than raise their children in a city of supernaturals. In the years to come Evelyn and Joslyn would become more like rivals than siblings. Even though Eve cared for her sister Jos didn’t reciprocate those feelings which brought tension between the two of them driving them apart from one another.

Even though Evelyn and Joslyn grew up in a semi-wealthy family, the only thing Eve ever craved was knowledge. From the moment that she was able to read Evelyn would spend her days in the library of their house reading book after book expanding her knowledge horizons. She was given everything she ever asked for and some might say she was rather spoiled, but she never let it go to her head. When they were both five years old Kelsey had given each of them a beautiful butterfly necklace, a blue butterfly necklace for Evelyn and a purple butterfly necklace for Joslyn, before speaking these words to them: “Spread your wings my little butterflies”. Neither of them knew what she meant at that moment since their Nephilim heritage was unbeknownst to the sisters but Evelyn would soon find out.

One day while searching for her mother, Eve spotted a large book laid out on the bed in her parent’s bedroom with the title “History of the Hartley Family”. Of course her obsession with knowledge brought her to sit on the edge of the bed and began to read the book. That was when Evelyn learned of her supernatural status as a Nephilim. The more she read, the more she became confused and amazed. Amazed by the information in the book and confused as to why her parents would keep this information from her and her sister. That was when her mother entered the room and raised her voice at Eve for the first time since her birth which caught the young female off guard.

It was too late now and her mother let a slight smile cross her lips before crossing the room and hugging Evelyn apologizing for raising her voice. Her parents had a feeling that she would find out the truth one day given her craving for knowledge and today was that day. After promising her mother that she would not tell her sister Joslyn, Kelsey began to teach Eve about the supernatural world. Not just her own species but the other known species as well, her mother also told her of Evermore City and how it was where they belong and one day they would all return there together. All this information would be overwhelming for any normal nine year old but Evelyn was no normal child. Her craving for knowledge has led her to the truth as to why she had those scars on her shoulder blades rather than the lie that was told to them about there being a car accident when they were young that produced identical scars on both her and her sister.

Eve knew that this information would only drive a larger wedge between her and Joslyn since she now had the responsibility to keep this knowledge from her sister, not that she needed help growing distant from her sister. Evelyn had no idea what she had done to cause her sister to dislike her but Joslyn seemed determined NOT to let her sister get close. As the years passed by their father began training both sisters in the art of self defense, where Eve would once again shine over her sister driving yet another wedge between them. Even when Evelyn went easy on her younger sister she still ended up getting the best of her, perhaps it was her skill or her knowledge that gave her a swift grasp of the teachings by their father but Joslyn was a much slower learner in the self defense teacher which made her angry and unfocused during their sparring sessions.

School was not much different for the siblings, Evelyn was once again the star out of them both leaving her sister to once again be in her shadow, however that didn’t mean she was forgotten by Eve. Evelyn had quickly raised in popularity, was a straight A student, and even made many friends. One of which became a very close friend to her. Her new friend wasn’t born in London but both of them quickly connected and were nearly inseparable during school hours, however after school they went about their own schedules which meant more training and studying for Evelyn. This new friend went by the name of Cornelia Bradford. One day during school there was a bully picking on Joslyn which sent Eve into protective elder sister mode going over to the bully and stopping him by knocking him unconscious which of course got her in trouble. Joslyn enjoyed the fact of her sister getting in trouble but hated the fact she had stepped in to stop the bully rather than let her take care of it herself.

Fighting that bully wouldn’t be the last time that Eve would get in trouble. Her new friend Cornelia was a bit of a wild spirit and sometimes they would do things that Evelyn normally wouldn’t do.  Eve’s parents called Cornelia a bad influence but that didn’t change her mind about keeping the other female close as her best friend. Her parents never really got too mad at her because even though she got into some trouble now and again, she never let it affect her school work or her training and study sessions at home. How she could keep her straight A’s while getting into trouble baffled her parents but they never complained. As long as Evelyn continued her life the way she had before meeting the young Cornelia, her parents said they could handle a little trouble every now and then.

When she turned 16 Evelyn found a new passion that would influence her future. The new passion that had grabbed her attention was photography, and it all started with the camera her parents had gotten her for her 16th birthday. She never went anywhere without her camera taking so many pictures that in a single year she had taken enough photos to fill 15 albums that held 100 pictures each. The first album held her starter pictures and were less than great, but with each photo took she increased in her professionalism and by the second album every photo looked as though it was taken by a professional photographer. This new passion only added to the young brunette’s repertoire of hobbies, which up to this point includes: reading (because she craves knowledge), singing (thanks to a sleepover when she was 10 where she did karaoke with her friends), dancing (because she wanted to try something new), self defense skills (thanks to her father’s training) and now photography.

At the age of 17 Evelyn Hartley found her first love when a guy named Samuel swept her off her feet quite literally. Samuel was a skateboarding genius just a couple years older than Eve and had a younger brother that he was trying to teach to skateboard. While teaching his brother on April 14, 2007, the skateboard slipped out from under his younger brother’s feet and went hurdling down the streets of Evermore with Samuel and his brother chasing after it yelling to people to watch out and stop the skateboard not that anyone did. The board eventually found the bottom of Evelyn’s foot, since she didn’t hear them calling out while she had earphones in her ears listening to music, and she began falling backwards holding out her hand to brace the impact but failed. Samuel had actually picked her up in his arms and began carrying her to the nearest hospital while his brother tried to stop a taxi and eventually he did. When the doctor had finished examining Evelyn she was cleared from the hospital with a few scrapes, bruises, a mild concussion which would cause some nasty headaches and a sprained wrist from trying to brace her fall. When she was released Samuel helped her make her way home considering that she didn’t want to tell her parents about this little accident though it would be hard to cover up the scrapes and bruises when she trained. When she arrived at her home Samuel said that he would like to make it up to her by taking her out to a movie or something, of course she was hesitant at first since she had no idea who this guy was or what he was capable of. However she reluctantly agreed to see a movie with him and after the movie they grew closer and closer until he had finally worked up the courage to ask Evelyn to be his girlfriend and she said yes without hesitation.

When Evelyn went inside the house after saying goodbye to Samuel and agreeing to meet him the following Friday on April 20th, her father informed her that she was late for practice and that today they would be using actual swords in their combat sparring. Eve of course didn’t want to disappoint her father so she followed him to the sparring area and got into her practice gear will surprisingly covered up the scrapes on her arms, now all she had to do was worry about hurting her wrist further. As she began sparring with her younger sibling, Evelyn noticed that her sister looked extra angry towards her which made her slightly concerned. As they began sparring Evelyn had continued to get the better of her sister as usual but then about halfway through the training session Eve’s wrist began to hurt causing her to lose focus before feeling a sharp pain strike her stomach. In her loss of focus Joslyn had taken advantage of her weakness and her sword put a large upward slash on Evelyn’s stomach causing a large puddle of red to spill onto the floor as she collapsed. Angry with Joslyn, their father backhanded her hard enough to knock her backwards and yelled at her to leave, and leave she did, for it was that night that Joslyn ran away from home. Evelyn thought for sure that she would die, and she most likely would have if it wasn’t for her father using his blood to heal the wound.

After Eve was healed she went in search for her sister explaining to her father that it was time she knew the truth about her supernatural status and that he was way too harsh on her since it was Evelyn’s fault that it happened. If she had told her father about the skateboarding accident then surely practice would have been cancelled for the day. However Evelyn found no sign of her sister, she wasn’t inside the house anywhere and the family safe in their dad’s office was open and half the money in there had been taken. It became obvious at that moment that Joslyn had ran away from home which devastated Eve because she couldn’t help but blame herself for what happened. As time went by nobody was able to find Joslyn and Eve’s birthday soon came round, however instead of her usual party Evelyn spent the day in Joslyn’s room wondering where she could have gone. It was no secret that the two of them didn’t get along but that didn’t mean that Eve hated her sister.

Things only got worse for Evelyn when she turned 18; she no longer had her brunette hair because she had gotten her hair dyed the day after her sister’s disappearance to remind her of that day. The young blonde had lost her best friend Cornelia when she moved from London, and would soon lose her boyfriend Samuel. The two had gone out for a movie and a drive under the stars to help her get her mind off of things, and after the movie Samuel and Eve went back to his place and lay in the hammock in his backyard staring up at the stars. After a while the two had decided to take their relationship to the next level and went upstairs to his bedroom and made love. When the clock was showing 11:42 PM Eve cursed aloud saying that she was supposed to be home an hour ago and her parents were probably freaking since her sister disappeared. They both got dressed and Samuel drove her home, however they would not make it to her house. While driving home they were involved in a head on collision with a drunk driver killing Samuel immediately and leaving the young blonde badly injured. She was in the hospital when her parents received the call and they knew they couldn’t use their blood to heal her in such a public place so they had to watch as she fought for her life. When she finally came to 2 days later, the doctor informed her of Samuel’s death. Evelyn wasn’t the same after that.

Her hobbies had become nearly non-existent and she had cooped herself up in her room for nearly 2 weeks.  Her parents decided it was time for a change of scenery and decided that they would go travelling across the world before going back to Evermore to live. During her travels parts of the old Evelyn began to return and she once again picked up her camera, though her photos didn’t have the same kind of passion they did before. Getting tired of her mopey attitude, her father had taken her to a secluded place of whatever place they were currently in and told her that she needed to get back to herself and gave Eve her sword that she had always trained with before telling her to defend herself. He held back at first increasing his skill in time causing her to react and fight back, allowing her to get out any anger or frustration she had built up. After about a half hour Eve collapsed to the ground saying it was all her fault, her sister leaving, Samuel’s death, everything bad that had happened since that night in the sparring area. Her father held her and said that neither of them would want her blaming herself for what happened and helped her to her feet.

On May 10th, 2014 they had decided to call their travels quit and head back to the supernatural city of Evermore in Colorado. By now Evelyn was at the age of 24 heading towards her 25th birthday and back to her normal self, craving knowledge and making time for her hobbies. In their travels Eve had also made time for college where she got her degree in photography and when they stopped moving and landed in Evermore she would start her own photography business. They arrived in Evermore on May 13th, 2014 at 9:00 AM and quickly made themselves at home in their old place which her parents hadn’t sold and kept up in their absence. The next day all three of them went into the city to find an available shop where Eve could set up her photography business, and after successfully finding the perfect place that even had a loft area in which she could live and be independent, they all went out for a late meal as the time was around 10:30 PM. What they didn’t know was that tonight would be a night like no other.

Evelyn heard screams coming from outside the little restaurant they were dining at and quickly went outside to see what was going on. However she was quickly attacked by a Lycan and was nearly done for when her father came charging out of the restaurant and knocked the beast off her. Both Adam and Kelsey told her to run and not to look back and reluctantly she did. She ran as fast as she could with tears flowing down her cheeks as she heard the screams of her parents coming from behind her. Reaching the newly acquired shop that she and her parents picked out, she hid there until morning crying through the night. When she returned to the restaurant where her parents were attacked she saw their bodies with large gashes across nearly every limb. She walked up to them and collapsed beside them cursing herself for running away and making a promise to herself and her deceased parents that she would never again run away from a fight no matter how hopeless the situation looked.

With the death of her parents Evelyn new that her sister had to return for the funeral, as much as she hated them family was family. So after staying with the bodies until the police came and told her she had to leave since it was a crime scene, she walked the streets until she heard of an amazing detective here in Evermore. She wasn’t sure what kind of detective this person would be but perhaps they might be able to help her locate Joslyn. When she found the detective, Evelyn was beyond amazed to see that the great detective was none other than her best friend from school Cornelia Bradford. After catching up with Cornelia, Eve told her of the situation and Cornelia said that she would do whatever she could to help her locate Joslyn. Surprisingly enough 2 days later Eve heard from Cornelia that her sister was in fact here in Evermore and gave her the location to where Joslyn was staying. Eve wasted no time in going to the location hoping to find her sister there.

She did of course find her sister at the location and after some arguing convinced her sister to attend the funeral. When Eve appeared at the funeral she saw her sister and walked over to her, “Mom would want you to wear this” she stated as she held out the purple butterfly necklace that their mother had given her. After the funeral was concluded Eve hoped to catch up with her sister but of course she declined and she respected that for now since she didn’t want to cause a scene today. Going back to her parent’s home in the Nephilim territory Evelyn began packing her things to move into the loft where her business would be located. She couldn’t live in her parent’s house by herself; the place was just too large for one person. After she had everything moved into the loft in the city, she began concentrating on her business since her parents would have wanted her to get the shop up and running.

By Christmas 2014, her photography studio was booming with success. But the holiday was of course a sad one considering it was the first holiday without her parents and the first one by herself. So her mood wasn’t the happiest, she stayed in and watched sappy romance movies on Netflix, curled up by the roaring fire. Since she was focused on the shop Evelyn didn’t make much of an effort to make any friends or to reconnect with Cornelia so she promised the New Year would be different. Not only would she reconnect with Cornelia, but she was going to make an effort to put herself out there and meet new people, make new friends and finally reconnect with her sister no matter what it took. However the New Year would also bring something else. On February 6th, 2015 a comet passed over Evermore before crashing somewhere near the city sending a massive wave of energy through the city and surrounding territories which awakened the true Nephilim with Evelyn giving her new abilities and gave her wings. She wondered how her sister was since she never knew of the Nephilim species; at least she didn’t before she left London.

What does the future hold for Evelyn Gabrielle Hartley? Only time will tell…….
