Growing up in New Orleans, Joe had a fairly happy childhood. Being the only child of his parents, he received a lot of attention from them. They were very protective over him, never allowing any harm to come to him and giving him everything that he desired.  He wasn’t the spoilt kid but he was rather proud of himself and his family.

When he was quite young, his family explained to him that he was a special child, like they were. They told him as much as his tiny brain could understand about the elements of air, water, fire and earth and how some people could control it.

When he was ten, he experienced stinging pain all over his back and instantly went to his parents. They explained to him that most people with such elemental control had these tattoos. He was nervous and apprehensive at first but soon learnt to live with it.

As the days morphed to weeks and the weeks ran into months, Joe began experiencing a fascination to fire. He realised that he couldn’t be hurt by it but rather could control it. His parents began training him to use it. As he grew older, he trained hard and gained much control of the element and it came in real handy, when one day there was a fire in the college where he was studying. He helped many students to escape noticing another girl doing the same thing. After things had settled down, Joe met this girl again. Initially they skirted around the issue, but soon they began talking about their powers. He learnt that that girl, Sophia, was a phoenix.

From then on their budding friendship started and soon developed into a relationship. When he was 23, he decided to join the fire-fighters so he could help people with his powers. After joining in, both he and Sophia got married. They were quite happy and welcomed a son, Nathanial and later a daughter Rosie.

Seeing his bravery, his superior enlisted him many services. On one such mission, he and his colleagues had a run-in with the infamous con artist BlueRay. He escaped, but the con artist held a grudge against him and when he and Sophia were away one day, his men entered the house and kidnapped his little baby daughter Rosie.

That was the time when his world completely fell apart. He blamed himself for everything that happened and didn’t give enough attention to either his wife or his son. He left his job, drank himself to oblivion many a times and continued searching his girl though the years.

After some years, his wife passed away and his son was almost like an estranged relative. Trying to pull himself back in work, he took an assignment away from the city. On one such assignment, he noticed a young girl fighting through fire. As her eyes met his, he staggered back in shock. He had finally found his Rosie!

Re-uniting with his daughter, he sent a message to his son to join them too and the three decided to make a new start in Evermore city. They got to know each other better there and for a while, it seemed as if things had gotten back to normal

However soon, there was a rising discontent and a war began between the Initia and the Phoenix clan. Knowing that such enemity was unnecessary as he himself had married a phoenix, Joe was quite unhappy with the situation. He , however,  heard about the  Isle of Skye where species with pure intentions lived and where they all wanted to create a world of peace and friendship. Taking his entire family there, he joined the Ailward Guard to help in creating peace throughout the war torn city.
