It was the night of the 1st of July when the twins, Kaoru and Toru, were born. Situated in the capital of the Miyagi Prefecture in Japan called Sendai. They two boys were extremely close growing up, having martial arts lesson from their father, and doing next to everything together. However their father held a secret from his family, the fact that he was an Initia. Despite this secret the family were a happy one with parents who loved the twins unconditionally and would do everything for the boys and in turn the boys would do anything for them. Kaoru had always been the more shy of the two, preferring fiddling with technology or science experiments than going out and socialising. His brother, on the other hand, spent most of his time playing Volleyball or having his nose stuck in a history book. Despite the glaring differences in the boys they were nearly inseparable.

The dynamics shifted when the twins reached the tender age of thirteen, a strange tribal tattoo suddenly being inked in their lowered back. They two had no idea how or why the strange mark had appeared and was afraid to even speak to their parents about it. It was out of the usual and they weren’t fond of causing their parents unnecessary worry. Yet because of this they had to work on their own to find out why and how the mark had appeared, what it meant for the two and how it would affect their lives.

The first difference Kaoru noticed was that he got a piercing pain whenever he was around water, finding it immensely difficult to be able to bathe without screaming out in pain. Yet despite his obvious discomfort of the element he was fixated by it, by every single thing it could do and how it could draw him in and capture his attention. It wasn’t until his brother had mentioned his own troubles, this time with fire, that he put the two together. The pain and fascination came after the tattoo, the two seemingly being connected in some way. It was both exhilarating and scary, having being able to make the connection but not understand why it happened.

With a pact to learn more about the strange abilities and tattoo’s the boys now had they worked together to try and unveil the truth. During their seventeenth year they decided to take a gap year, moving halfway across the world to study at an American college. Kaoru had chosen to study about technology, hoping to use the degree to become an inventor of new and improved technology. Yet they haven’t forgotten about their original task and in between studying and lessons they are seeking out answers. Answers to the marks on their backs, their strange but exciting abilities and most of all their past. The twins had packed up their bags and belongings and headed off to College in Evermore City, in Colorado. Unknown to them that the city hides many secrets some of which would answer their questions and hold the truth of what they are...
