Family: None
Faceclaim: Kim Seol-Hyun (AOA)
Min-Ji’s life began in the city of Bucheon, in the Gyeonggi Province of South Korea. On May 18, 1995; the Kim family of Sung-Ki and Sun-Hwa, welcomed their first child. The child was a baby girl, and the two of them named her Min-Ji. However she wasn’t going to get to know her parents for very long. Her parents were patient with her and did everything they could for her. Sung-Ki was a wealthy businessman, and Sun-Hwa was a school teacher, but she quit teaching when her daughter was born. For 5 years, Sun-Hwa raised Min-Ji at home while Sung-Ki continued his work. He would help with baby Min-Ji when he got home in the evening.
On the night of Min-Ji’s fifth birthday, she was woken from her sleep by her mother who looked frightened beyond recognition. Sun-Hwa told her to hide. She placed her in the secret compartment of her closet and told her no matter what, she doesn’t come out until she came to find her. Min-Ji listened as tears filled her eyes. The screams of her parents echoed through the house but Min-Ji never budged. When the screaming stopped, and everything fell silent, Min-Ji curled up and rocked back and forth trying to get the screams out of her head.
She couldn’t tell how much time had passed, but when the secret compartment opened, police officers were the ones to greet her and not her parents. Min-Ji wouldn’t come out for the officers. Her mother said she would come for her and Min-Ji wanted to believe that was the truth. However after a few hours not moving, she knew that her mother wasn’t coming for her and she crawled out of the secret compartment to the police officers. The only family she had left was her aunt and uncle in america. The police contacted her aunt and uncle about the death of her parents, and they got on the first flight out of america. Until they arrived, Min-Ji stayed with the police officer who found her.
Min-Ji isolated herself from everything, she wouldn’t eat anything, she wouldn’t drink anything, and she would stare off as if she was lost in her own mind. The officer didn’t know what to do. It took her aunt and uncle two days to actually get to Bucheon, and when they arrived, Min-Ji ran to her aunt and hugged her tight. They thanked the officer for taking care of her and then left. The three of them went to her house to gather some of her belongings, and that was when they saw the evidence of the attack. Her aunt and uncle knew exactly what had happened that night. They gathered what they needed and then left as soon as possible. Min-Ji was then taken to america where she would live with her aunt and uncle in Evermore, Colorado.
Min-Ji remained isolated even in Evermore. However after ending up in the hospital for her lack of eating and drinking, she began to slowly open up. On the day of her sixth birthday, Min-Ji finally seemed back to herself. She was now playful and happy, rather than the sad girl that her aunt and uncle had seen the past year. Knowing that her parents were both members of the Initia supernatural species, Min-Ah and Minjae sat her down on the couch in the family room and began to tell her about what her parents were, and what she was. Min-Ji took the news rather well and was actually anticipating the day she got her elemental gift.
The young Kim girl was a patient person and she did her best to learn about the Initia species. However, now that she was staying in Evermore, her aunt and uncle figured that it would be a good idea to have her enroll in school. Min-Ji focused on her studies and never really took the time to make friends. Even though she didn’t try to make friends, she befriended a group of females in the school. Her grades were high all through school and she rarely missed any days. However on her fifteenth birthday, something happened that she had been waiting for. While getting ready for school, her eyes glowed a blue color and a fiery pain shot through her back. She screamed out in pain as the water in her glass raised out of its container and splashed over her as the control was lost.
Now that her element was tapped, her uncle called the school and told them that she would be out for a couple of weeks because they were going out of town. However the truth of the fact was that he was going to teach her how to control her powers so that she didn’t hurt anyone. He wasn’t expecting her to be a pro in two weeks, but he hoped by that time she would have enough control that she wouldn’t be using her powers in public. When she returned to school, her friends asked her how the trip was and all she said was ‘educational’.
Time passed by rather quickly, and fairly soon she was saying her goodbyes to her friends who had dreams of their own to fulfill. Min-Ji however didn’t know what she wanted to do, but the one thing she had to do, was visit her hometown of Bucheon to complete her father’s will. Her aunt and uncle accompanied her to her hometown to complete the will, and to make sure nothing happened to her like what happened to her parents. When everything was said and done, Min-Ji inherited her father’s fortune and she made sure to thank her aunt and uncle for all they done for her. She gave them a portion of her inheritance when they arrived back in Evermore.
The young Kim child, that lived through her parent’s death, had grown up into a strong young woman. Her aunt and uncle were proud of her and wanted to do something nice for her. They made plans, but it took a while to put everything together. Now that she was nineteen, Min-Ji had plans to go see the world and what it had to offer, but she was asked by her aunt an uncle to stay around just a little longer. On the night of her special surprise, Min-Ji got more than she bargained for. Her aunt’s car was attacked before they got into the city by members of the Phoenix faction. Min-Ji fell unconscious upon the impact with the tree they hit, however her aunt and uncle were okay and began to fight the Phoenix members. However, given their weakened state from the crash, they were easily killed and Min-Ji was taken captive by them.
The Phoenixes tortured her to the point she begged for death, and yet all they done was torture her more. At night when they went to bed, she would be tied up to a pole so that her feet were barely touching the ground. Min-Ji began to lose hope after the first few months, and she began praying for it all to end. However it seemed as though fate had a different path in store for her. While unconscious one night, a comet crashed into Evermore, and with its landing unlocked a new element for the young female. When she woke up, she found herself lying on the ground, and when she looked up at the rope that held her up, there was a little flame flickering at the end. Wasting no time she looked around the building for anything that could help her escape. Although she was injured, Min-Ji pushed through the pain and escaped from captivity. After a full day hiking down the mountain, while trying to stay hidden from those who tried to find her, she made it back to her aunt and uncle’s house. Yet another two family members dead and she was helpless to do anything both times.
After resting in the house for the night, Min-Ji had to figure that the ones who captured her knew where the house was. With this in her mind, she went looking around the Initia Territory for a new place to live. After buying a new house with her inheritance, Min-Ji began to wonder what was she supposed to do next? She was still curious as to what happened to allow her to escape, and why was there no burn marks on her skin if the rope around her wrists were burned? As she looked for answers, she met a fellow Initia who told her it sounded like she had tapped into the element of fire. It was clear that Min-Ji was perplexed. She had already been tapped by the element of water, how could she have tapped the element of fire? However those answers were found out when she went to see the ambassador of the faction.
It was revealed to her that a comet had crashed into Evermore, and the energy released unlocked a second element for the Initia members. Min-Ji felt thankful for the new powers, but she had no control over them and she was worried about harming someone with them. Seeing the worry that filled her, the ambassador Sierra Reigns offered to train her to control the element. Together they worked on her control over the fire element. The process was slow going but the progress she made was outstanding. She preferred the powers she held over water more than the ones she had over fire, but she was thankful for the flames because they had saved her life.
Now the year is 2017, and Min-Ji remains in Evermore. Her life has been focused around training her elements, while trying to maintain her job as a bartender. Unsure of what she wants to do in life, she focuses her time and money into finding the people responsible for her kidnapping, and hopefully seek justice on them one way or another. Having powers did give her a sense of strength, but what she really wants is to find a personal trainer who can teach her to defend herself against those who would want to harm her.
