Beautiful Scenery, rich culture, wonderful food. Thus is the world of Italy…..and this is where the story begins. The Moretti family, had long lived in Verona. Coming from a posh background; the family may have been prim and proper, but we well respected and loved, by many. The Nephilims also came from a long line of Pure-Bloods. Young Giovanni and the young british Isabella. Had been teenage sweet-hearts; from the ages of 13 and 15. The young couple had met, when Isabella’s family was on a long summer’s holiday. Compared to Giovanni, Isabella came from a lower-class status than him. But, that didn’t seem to matter to young Giovanni. Isabella was smart, fun, and his family also took a quick liking to her. The young pair had instantly clicked. It was a summer romance. Before, Isabella and her family returned back to rainy, dreary London. She promised, Giovanni; she would keep in touch. And so she did. The pair had exchanged letters, every week. Also communicating by email. This carried on for the next 3 years.
When Isabella was 16, everything was changing. Her parents were constantly arguing and at odds with each other. It turned out that her father was having a secret affair with a woman he worked with. Isabella’s family was slowly falling apart. When her parents, finally announced that they were getting a divorce. Isabella, didn’t want to be in the same house as her father, let alone the same country. She and her mother, had soon packed their bags and relocated to Verona, Italy. It was shortly after the move that Giovanni and Isabella were re-united. Despite writing to each other, the young pair still had a lot to catch up on, as Isabella didn’t disclose a lot of family things, over letters and emails. Giovanni was her shoulder to cry on. But also her rock. The young pair stuck together since then. And after a few years, of getting together; the pair finally tied the knot. It was a happy, and joyous occasion. Isabella’s mother, was ever so happy to see her one and only daughter, find happiness that she had.
Starting their new life as a married couple was a bliss. Neither of them could wait to start a family. 2 years later, after the happy day. Isabella found out she was pregnant with their first child. More celebrations were had, as everyone was preparing for the arrival of a new family member. On a very cold January morning, they welcomed their first-born into the world. Marcos. Their small bundle of joy. Marco, was said to resemble his father, the most.
The first 5 years of his life, consisted of everyone in his family fussing over him. Weekends with his grand-parents; whom were teaching him the proper ways of life, manners ect...like they had taught his father, and everyone else in that family. Whilst, his early childhood; was quite normal in some aspects. It also came with high expectations; that once he’d be grown up; He’d be a proper and prim, young lad. Marco, loved spending time with his grand-parents. From a young age, they told him stories of the Angels and Nephilims. The tales, included that of his heritage.
Shortly before his 6th birthday, it was announced that he was going to be a big brother. His mother was pregnant once more. Marcos couldn’t help but feel excited, that he’d have a little brother or a sister to look after. The next 9 months, were filled with anxiety and excitement. Everyone wondering, what the new addition to the family would be. For the first 7 months, his mother’s pregnancy was going smoothly. Shortly after that, complications began to arise. And his mother spent 3 weeks in hospital. To try and save, the babies life. Marco’s mother, Isabella went through induced labour. It was a worrying time. The child was born pre-maturely. A small, fragile baby girl. The young child was monitored, carefully. Everyone worrying. Young Marco, often speaking to the baby-girl, that was laying in an incubator with each visit to the hospital. Asking and praying, for her to be strong; so she could come home with him and their parents. It was clear, from those early moments; that he was protective and loving towards his baby sister. For a few weeks, the small child; remained without a name. As everyone was concerned about her health. Until, 6 weeks later. Young Marco came to his parents with the Liyana. Somehow, it seemed to be a perfect fit for their precious, tender baby girl.
For the next 4 years, the attention was mainly on his baby sister. Marco didn’t seem to mind too much, after all Liyana had health issues, since being born pre-maturely. She was the priority in the family. Between frequent visits to the hospital, and being home. The family life, was a bit scattered. It was only after, his baby-sister turned 4. That things were slowly returning back to normal. As his sister had better health, growing stronger. In a few ways, some people considered it a miracle.
Growing up, the two siblings were close. Most people, seen them together quite often. Marcos acting as the chief protector and guide, to his baby sister. Young Marcos was quite accomplished, in school. Intelligent, coming on top of his classes. But slowly, there was one thing that began to bug him. As much as he loved and adored his grand-parents. The way, they were trying to drill perfect manners, and way to act into him; was beginning to bother him. As a child, it did not bother him so much. He was too young to argue. But the whole, ‘Prim and proper’ did not fit him at all. It made him feel suffocated. Like, he could not be himself. From the ages of 14-17, he slowly began to rebel. Hanging out with the wrong crowd, skipping classes, not attending social/family events; that his family wanted him to.Just out of pure spite, the Nephilim dabbled in drugs and alcohol. Testing the waters; to see if he liked anything. Most of the drugs, offered a way of escapism. Made him feel free; to an extent. Luckily, his dabbling never grew into an addiction. And he stopped himself, after 6 months of using them. With all the trouble he got into; he ended up dropping out before graduation Another black mark, in his book..
Nephilim training, was also a miss in his books. Often forgetting his training sessions; and not turning up, when it was expected off of him. Knowing, if he gave in and turned up. He’d be giving into his parents/grand-parent’s expectations and doing, what they told him to do. And he didn’t want to do that.
In the meantime, Marcos and his parents spent a lot of time arguing. About his rebellious way and the path of life, he had chosen. His grand-parents not impressed. Marked as a disgrace, in the Moretti family for his behaviour. Unknown to them. Marcos had been working in an under-ground club, as a bartender. Somewhat, getting his act slowly together. And making some money, for himself. In order to get away from his family home in Italy. Needing to be free of the pressure and arguments.
Shortly, before his 18th birthday. A massive argument was the end of everything. The last words that Marcos had spoken to his family were. “I’ve had enough! I can’t stay in this family any longer, all you do is suffocate me! I am leaving, for good.” Everyone in his family was shocked. His baby sister, was the only one that was in tears, pleading with him not to go. Liyana was the one person, he felt sorry for. Knowing, he was leaving her behind, with everyone. Marco kissed her forehead softly, saying silent goodbyes to his baby sister. With the money he made for himself, and a bag of his things. He left.
For the next 4 years, Marcos spent his time traveling between different countries. Mainly England, America and France. Seeing a little bit of the world and trying to find his own way in life. Going between different jobs; he was trying to find his passion. Among them, he found a few new hobbies including cooking. In that time, Marcos had found a group of Nephilims; and with them. During that time, he was living in Versailles, France. He resumed his Nephilim training; that he always skipped in protest to his parents, back in Italy. Marcos was skilled; a fast learner. And had quite the skill on the battle-field. Marcos was slowly embracing, his heritage. On his own terms, in his own ways. Rather than being forced into it. The young Nephilim also returned back to school; finishing off his studies-going onto College. Finding himself excelling once again, at his classes. From his earlier years, Marco was good with different languages; so it wasn’t much of a barrier for him.
Among few of his trainers; one of the Nephilims worked for the F.B.I. Marcos developed a strange fascination with that job. Asking his mentor, to teach him about that particular profession. And so his other training began. Marcos was keen, and learned quite a lot about the F.B.I, a swell as getting some basic spying training. In case, Marco needed help, in identifying enemies. Eventually, the young Nephilim got into that profession himself. It seemed like he found his desired career...something, he seemed passionate about. Despite his bad decisions during his younger-years. Marcos wasn’t the same person, as he had been in Italy.
Shortly after his 23rd Birthday. Marco’s got an unexpected visitor. His baby sister Liyana. Somehow, the young Nephilim had tracked him down and found him, living in France. Their reunion was bittersweet. Marcos learned from Liyana, that their parents had divorced shortly after his departure, and that their grand-father, had a cardiac arrest. Apparently, his leaving; caused the Moretti family; huge distress. Even, if he felt partially at fault. Other issues, drove their parents away. Only his sister; knew of what truly destroyed the love between their father and mother. But, she seemed unwilling to share. Marco suspected, that his baby sister knew something. But never pushed her for information.
The Moretti Siblings, took some time to rekindle their sibling hood. Marcos looking after Liyana, and protecting her once more.Like, back in their younger days. He was quite proud of, the strong young woman she was becoming. With his steady job, it provided enough income, to keep them both going. As Liyana was trying to find her own feet, with the help of his brother. Despite being loving and protective towards his sister. Marcos was detached from a lot of people. Even with heightened emotions; he didn’t find it easy to grow close to anyone, beyond a friendship level. Whether it was elements of his past, or fear of commitment; that kept from doing so. Marcos never lasted long, in the romantic field.
At the start of 2014, the siblings had heard of Evermore. A place for all different supernaturals. Luckily, his F.B.I unit; was getting relocated. It gave them more of a reason to move, rather than just their own curiosity. Upon their arrival, in the new city. Marcos was impressed, at it’s beauty and welcoming feeling. After settling down, with his sister. The Moretti siblings, soon became a part of the Nephilim faction, following their way of life; separated into different sections. Cornelia, was the one; that helped him and his sister feel the most settled in a new city, and among the faction. As his sister, seemed to be struggling the most. So Marcos was grateful for Cornelia’s helping hand and advice. Marcos, always had huge respect for the Nephilim Ambassador, and regarded her as one of his first friends; upon the move to Evermore. Finding it easy, to open to her; about his family’s past and the internal struggles; he went through to try and find himself.
After the Comet struck, in the early months of 2015. Marcos found himself shocked at his new found Immortality and, actual wings. Despite, being a Nephilim for 27 years, by that point. He did not think, he’d gain his wings so late in his 20’s. It took him a while to adjust and get used to them. It didn’t take long for the Nephilim to get the hang of the flight ability. But often found himself, pondering on what to do, with his Immortality. What an awfully long life, to live. He’d think to himself,on more than one occasion.
Over the years living in Evermore. Marcos slowly climbed up the ranks in his job. The young Nephilim very job and sister orainted. Leaving, quiet little for socialising life. But, he makes the best of what free time he does have. Much to his dislike, his baby sister; had set him up on a few blind dates recently. Most of them, turning out to be disastrous occasions. Adding some humiliation and amusement into his life. The Nephilim dreading, the fact; that his baby sister has not given up on trying to find him, the perfect woman. And what she might be planning next. On many occasions, insisting. That romance is not his area; but his sister strongly keeps disagreeing. Telling him; all those failed dates, are good experience. Think of it as good practise.
If anything, Marcos would much rather resort to flings. Then finding someone to tie him down emotionally for long term. Leaving most people, under the strong impression that he is a bit of a player. His excuse is, always his job. That he doesn’t have time for long-term relationships, due to his commitment to work. Whether someone will crack past that detached exterior...only time will tell.
