October 30, 1994, the San Francisco Memorial Hospital was in the crosshairs of the paparazzi. Word had gotten out that actress Keiko Kohana-Young was giving birth today and all the reporters wanted to get the scoop of the century. Keiko’s husband Robert Young made sure his wife was covered though and hired a private security firm to keep the paparazzi out of the hospital and away from her. Most of the paparazzi had died down when the rain began falling, coming down in buckets and those that didn’t have umbrellas had to leave or risk equipment damage. Soon enough night had fallen and bright flashes of blue light could be seen through the window shades, indicating that the weather was only getting worse with time. At 10:36 PM Keiko had finally given birth to a beautiful baby girl. As her parents held her close, Keiko looked up at Robert with a bright smile; “Her name will be Mikayla” she said in a soft tone.
The next day was just observations and such to make sure that both the baby and the mother were in good health before being sent home. When November 1st came around, Keiko was more than eager to get home with their new daughter. Gathering their things, Robert, Keiko, and Mikayla made their way out of the hospital and into flocks of paparazzi looking to get their fill. The security hired by Robert did their job as best as they could, but it was nearly impossible to get out of there without having at least one of the photographers get lucky. Now in their car, Robert told the driver to get them out of there and he done just that; getting them home in about 10 minutes. After the birth of their daughter, Keiko announced that she was giving up her actress career so that she could be a mother to her daughter.
The first 10 years of the young Mikayla’s life were rather easy compared to what was to come. Growing up alongside her mother, Keiko had begun introducing Mikayla to school before she was even a year old. She never forced the knowledge upon her daughter though, which made it slightly difficult; however Mikayla did enjoy her studies from the moment she was able to understand what her mother was teaching her. By the time she started school at the age of 4; Mikayla was already reading and writing at a 3rd grade level. Many of the students in her class teased her about how smart she was and tended to stay away from her thinking that she was a freak. However one of the students, a young girl by the name of Amber, became friends with Mikayla. They spent as much time together as possible; both in and out of school, and their friendship quickly grew. Keiko continued to teach her daughter after school was over, teaching her things that the schools in San Francisco were unable to teach her. Things like her supernatural status as a Nephilim, and the other supernatural species that most people only believed to be fantasy creatures from stories or movies.
When she reached age 11, Mikayla’s father confronted her when she returned home from school. “Okay Mikayla, you’ve had your time living as a normal child, but the time has come for you to accept what you are and begin your training” he said to her in a stern voice as he looked down at her. “No” she replied in a single word. After being amongst the ‘normal’ people, Mikayla had other interests and wanted to pursue them rather than train with her father. When the word no came from her mouth, Robert raised his hand and brought it down on her cheek as a loud slapping noise filled the room. “You WILL do your training. That’s not a request, it’s an order” he said and Keiko looked at him in shock. She couldn’t believe that she had just witnessed him slap their child with a rather large amount of force. Mikayla was left in tears as she reluctantly followed her father into the training room with tears flowing down her face. Robert tossed a bamboo Bo staff to his daughter and he grabbed one himself, demonstrating a few basic attacks on the training dummy. When she didn’t make a move for the dummy, Robert walked behind her and gave her a whack in the lower back with his staff. Mikayla stumbled towards the dummy in the center of the room with a loud scream. Every day for two weeks, Mikayla endured the same treatment from her father until she had given into his forced training.
For a full month Mikayla pushed her only friend away until she was completely alone. She ate lunch alone, she sat in the back of class, and her grades began to slip. She couldn’t understand her father’s actions. If she couldn’t live like a normal child, why did she have to continue going to school like one. At the end of the month, during Parent-Teacher meetings, her decreasing grades were brought to the attention of her parents and Robert was far from pleased. Once they got home and began her training Robert began hitting her rather hard with the bamboo Bo staff in places that were able to be hidden by her clothes. “You Keep Your Damn Grades Up!” he screamed at her with each hit. “STOP IT!” Mikayla yelled and lashed out at him with her Bo staff knocking him off his feet and onto the ground. With that she ran out of the room and out of the house. She had no idea where she was running to; she just needed to get away from her father. On January 3, 2006; Mikayla’s mother passed away from a drug overdose, and she blamed her father for it. If he was a better husband and father, then maybe her mother would still be alive and she wouldn’t be living in fear of her father alone.
Mikayla didn’t have it very easy once her mother had passed, she had to live in fear of the man she was once proud to call father; now it was just a pseudonym like Sir or Master. For nearly seven years she lived in fear; fear of making mistakes, fear of failing, fear of her grades slipping, fear of human contact and fear of her father. Mikayla was a bright young girl to say the least, so when the opportunity came up for her to accept extracurricular activities; she jumped at the chance and gave the explanation “It looks good on college applications as well as resumes” to subdue her father’s wrath. On October 27, 2012; a mere 3 days before her 18th birthday, Mikayla came home late from piano practice and her father was already loaded drunk when she got in the house. Furious that she was late and not thinking straight due to the alcohol in his system, Robert made his way across the room and roughly pulled the jacket off of his daughter’s torso. As he made a grab for the waist of her pants, Mikayla knew what he was trying to do and she had to put an end to it right away. Pulling away from him, Robert stumbled forward and fell to his knees before looking up at her with anger and lust in his eyes. Turning on her heels, she quickly made her way towards the training room, where she grabbed her Kusarigama from the wall and turned to face the drunken man. “Dad… Stop it… Stop it Right Now!” she exclaimed as he made the mad dash for her. In pure instinct, she dropped to her knees and held the Kusarigama blade outwards as she waited for the worst to come. Soon enough the footsteps stopped and she felt something warm trickling down her hand. As she looked up, there lay her father’s head impaled by her weapon. What she didn’t see due to her position on the floor was that her father had tripped up and fell face forward landing right on the blade of her Kusarigama. She quickly pushed him away and ran for the phone, calling the police. She knew she couldn’t just ignore it, she killed him.
When the police finally arrived a half hour later, there was a large pool of blood resting beneath her father’s limp body. She was immediately brought to the station where they provided her with a lawyer, and it was soon found out that she hadn’t killed him on purpose; but rather by accident, and it was also proved by the new bruises, and old scars that she had been beaten by the man that called himself her father. The case was still brought before a judge, and given all the evidence; she was declared innocent because she was purely acting on self preservation. Mikayla was now 18 and she had inherited her parents’ fortune due to the requirements of the wills being completed. Wanting nothing more to do with her parents’ house, she packed her things up and decided it was time for a change in scenery. However she wasn’t exactly ready to relocate somewhere permanent just yet, so instead she decided to pursue college and take the Massage Therapy course at Ahern's Massage Therapy School in Mariposa, California. It wasn’t going to be her permanent new home, but she was going to be there for nearly 3 years so it would get her out of that house for a while. About a week after she sent her application, she got a letter come saying that she had been accepted and she would start January 5, 2013.
Once January rolled around, Mikayla began her studies in Massage Therapy and had moved to a small house in Mariposa, California rather than the big house she was so used to. While in that college, Mikayla met her first love interest. She was approached by many guys who had taken her out on dates, but neither of them truly captured her attention enough to become her boyfriend. However on February 14, 2014; she received a letter in her locker sealed with a lipstick kiss. The letter gave her directions to a place in the college that rarely anyone went to, along with instruction to meet them there during lunch hour; signed by a secret admirer. This gesture was one that had captured her attention, and to curb her curiosity Mikayla went to the meeting point at the designated time. Upon arrival, she noticed her friend Kari leaning against the railing on the roof of the college; the exact same place where she was supposed to meet her secret admirer. Walking across the roof to where Kari was, Mikayla looked at her in shock. She couldn’t believe the secret admirer was none other than her closest friend Kari. After talking for what seemed like an eternity, which in actual fact was about 10 minutes, Kari leaned in and kissed Mikayla passionately before pulling away. Mikayla swiftly leaned back in and kissed her with a smile on her face.
Mikayla and Kari continued dating all through college, spending their weekends together and some nights Kari even stayed over all night. However Mikayla’s life was about to get much more exciting. On the night of February 6, 2015; the comet that struck Evermore, Colorado had sent out a massive energy wave which affected the supernatural world in various way. Mikayla was about to find out that there was more to her life than what she was currently doing. She was sitting on her favorite chair as she stared up into the night sky, the weather was relatively warm and the night was clear; but soon enough the effects of the comet crash hit her. A sharp, stabbing pain filled the scars on her shoulder blades; one could describe it as being stabbed repeatedly in a single spot. She staggered inside as she tried to make it to her bed so that she could get off her feet and in the safety of her house, but as she stepped inside the sliding doors of the balcony; Mikayla collapsed to the fluffy pink carpet in her bedroom blacking out.
There she lay for the rest of the night, and once morning came around her alarm clock woke her up. Once she was awake, Mikayla rose to her feet and she immediately felt an added weight upon her shoulders. Turning her head to the side, her jaw dropped in shock as she saw two large white wings extending from her body on either side. She had no idea what was happening or how to get the wings to go away, maybe there was no way to get them to retract. Unsure of what she was going to do, she knew that she wasn’t going to be able to meet up with Kari today; so she quickly grabbed her phone and sent a text to Kari saying that something came up and she wouldn’t be able to meet with her today. Mikayla was a full day trying to remember anything from her mother’s teachings about the Nephilim species that could help her out; but the only thing she could remember was the number of a person in Evermore that may be able to help her.
Dialing the number that her mother had mentioned, all she got was a notification that the number had been changed as well as a message which included the number of the new ambassador of the community. Hoping to have better luck with the new number, she quickly dialed the number and smiled as the rings went through. When the rings stopped, a female voice answered the phone introducing herself as Cornelia Bradford. “Hello, my name is Mikayla and I’m… well I’m having a bit of a problem. I’m not sure if you’re going to be able to help me but I was referred to you so I’m hoping you can” she said in a nervous tone. She knew that she wasn’t supposed to talk about the supernatural world with humans, and given that she couldn’t identify the person on the other end; she didn’t know if they were human or not. “This is a rather sensitive issue considering I don’t know you but I really need help. I’m a Nephilim and I’m having a slight wing issue” she blurted out hoping it was the right thing to do considering she couldn’t leave her house like that. After reassuring the young Nephilim that she could help, Mikayla explained how she didn’t know if or how to get her wings to retract. Cornelia helped her get her wings retracted and told her that if she ever needed help she was just a phone call away or she could come visit Evermore and learn more about her species.
On January 3, 2016; Mikayla graduated from the Massage Therapy program at Ahern's Massage Therapy School. However her relationship with Kari came to an end on the same day. They both had big plans for their futures which placed them on different ends of the earth; so they said their goodbyes and said that they’d stay in contact with each other whenever it was possible. Mikayla figured that perhaps it was time to move once again, but this time to the supernatural city of Evermore where she could learn even more about her Nephilim side; as well as open her very own Massage Therapy shop. Packing her car up once more with the things she brought with her to college, Mikayla began her journey to Evermore City.
By March 9, 2016; she had found the perfect place to set up her Massage Therapy Clinic within the Nephilim community that was right next door to a rather large vacant building which she purchased and had fixed up into the perfect house for her. All of her things from San Francisco had been brought over and she was finally happy with where she was in life.
