Family: Malakai Liddell (Father) Nathan Liddell (Brother)

Two years after the birth of their first born Nathan, Malakai and Mary-Anne gave birth to another little boy whom they named Oliver. Oliver wasn’t as healthy as Nathan, due to the depression of his mother being in such a bad stage, he came out weighing only 4.7lbs.

By the time Oliver was brought home, Mary-Anne's second bout of post-natal depression was in full effect, and Malakai took many a beating in Oliver's stead. The problem that quickly arose was that, unlike his elder brother who learnt to be silent, Oliver didn’t see the darkness that loomed over his home and so cried when it suited him, whether it be for anything in particular or merely because he could.

This went on for longer than Malakai ever dreamed. Oliver’s earliest memories were crying in bed while his father cradled him with hushed tones, Nathan stood by the door waiting for something that might happen or might not. Oliver soon realized, as he grew older, that Nathan stood waiting for his mother, like a guardian Nathan stood watch by the door so Malakai could nip out before Mary-Anne had chance to enter the children's room.

A little too late, Oliver realized that silence was his best friend and even though Malakai had already suffered for his naivety, Oliver stopped crying and learnt to sleep silently through the night, Because it's all they knew...Silence was their friend

The brothers grew up somewhat apart, Oliver spent more time with friends while Nathan spent more time with books. And the pair grew up together, the best of friends, though apart none the less.

The night of the ‘accident’ started like any other, Nathan sat and read his book, their father watched their mother like a hawk and the 17 year old Oliver watched her, waving this burtchers knife around and wondering what she’d do with it, almost betting with himself at to which wall it would go into.

But it wasn’t a wall the knife hit, it was Nathans cheek, and the following movements were so robotic, if you asked Oliver about it he would only recall what he saw next.

Somehow, little Oliver had lodged the butchers knife into his own mother's throat. A scream, gurgled from his mouth as blood splattered everywhere. He continued to scream until a hand slammed over his lips and instead of screams, his heart merely beat ten to the dozen. When Nathan removed his hand, The only thing he could say was ‘What have I done?’

He didn’t get an answer that night, or any other.

Nathan instructed him to help cover and bury the body, which he did. He then helped clean up the room and pack. They were away before dawn, driving away from their home and into the open roads of the world.

Away from the dark clouds and finally...Oliver could see the sun.

They drove to a city called Evermore, and in one of their pit stops, Oliver became transfixed with the architecture of the city. Parts look centuries old and others looked months old. There were glass walls, brick walls and wooden walls, all looming over cobbled and paved streets, it looked as if the city had been put together by a child in a toystore, It was incredible.

Oliver begged to stay, and Nathan begged to stay too, even Malakai was transfixed with the city. So thats where they stayed, buying a three bedroom home where Oliver and Nathan could finally learn the magic their father hid from Mary-Anne for so many years.

So they could finally forget and move on.

And that they did.
