Name: Richard Lane
Species: Initia
Age: 20
Family: None
Element Control: Air and Fire
Faceclaim: Colton Haynes
Richard was born in a family that many would describe as dysfunctional, however confused and scared with be adjectives that would fit it better. He couldn't say that they were bad people; they just didn't seem to know how to cope with everything that happened. Although he was never told his mom was an initia, but she died before she could tell them anything about it, leaving him and his older sister unaware and unprepared for the future that was expecting them. However his father remarried and Richard had what you could call “a wonderful childhood”. Once his sister grew a little older she started talking about special abilities and how she could make the ground shake, of course no one believed her. Richard could still remember her standing outside, both hands in the asphalt trying to create an earthquake, crying and screaming how she was not crazy. But her father and stepmother didn’t know how to handle something like that, so they had her institutionalised. This caused his family nothing but pain; it broke up the family so they all just pretended she didn’t exist.
What would be Richards’s surprise, when after a few years, in an ordinary school fight he lifted his hand to protect his face and a gust of wind ended up slamming the other guy against a wall. It took some convincing but he finally accepted he wasn’t like everyone else, he could control the wind. His sister had been right all along. He couldn't put his Dad through this again; one freak in the family was enough. So he packed up his stuff and left never to return. Days before the incident he had been feeling searing pain that shot through his back, he just forgot and ignored the pain until he had found a tattoo appeared on his lower back. He kept his tattoo a secret from his family before to school like nothing had happened not know that later that day things would change. He tried going to get his sister out of that horrible place she had been locked up in for years. But he was too late, she was gone. The authorities had said there was an earthquake that shattered the building, and buried his sister alive. The image of her dead body was permanently burned into his mind, and his past haunts him to this day.
Richard tried desperately to live a normal life. He never had anyone to help him figure things out, so he learned how to suppress his abilities, instead of embracing them. He felt like a freak, so he fought that part of himself and tried to enjoy life as best he could. He moved from city to city riding his bike, with nothing more than a backpack full of clothes, and stayed there visiting the bars and clubs, getting mediocre jobs here and there just to get by. And being an underage little rebel that seemed to be addicted to partying, he landed himself in plenty of trouble over the years, but that helped him grow up. He acted real though and pretended that nothing mattered but deep down he was still a scared little boy.
Maybe it was his own insecurities but he wasn’t able to make any lasting emotional ties to anyone. Feelings in his mind were for the weak, so he tried and keep all of them bottled up as best he could. He was so lost; he didn’t know anything about himself. His powers scared him and a big part of that was because he didn’t know how to control them, so to him they were nothing but the cause of destruction, like a ticking time bomb inside him just waiting to burst out and hurt someone.
This is how he got to Eternal City, he drove in with everything he owned on his back, and a bunch of questions in his head. He remembered his sister had once told him his mother had grown up here, that this was what made them special, of course at the time he had thought she was hallucinating do to the pills they made her take, but now, maybe... just maybe he could find something that helps him know a bit more about who he was, or where he came from. At the end of the day he was looking for what everyone else is a home.
