Growing up was very difficult for Riley, a lot of heartbreak. She lost both of her heartbreaks at a young age, a tragic loss. Riley was never told the real cause for her parents lost, she grew up not knowing the truth. She spent years living in foster care, it wasn’t easy for Riley. She always felt that she was different from other children that she lived with at the foster home. Everyday she would be tormented and bullied by the other kids. Being called a freak or other names. During the winter and cold months she loved feeling the wind and the cold on her bare skins instead of wrapping up in layers. At a young age and not knowing any different, Riley didn’t understand why she was ridiculed for her actions, it being the norm for her. It was this reason that she never stayed in one home for long, the caretakers giving up on her because she never really played with any of the other children, having the fear that they would pick on her. On the few occasions that she did play with them, the other children would always end up hurt or bleeding, because they would taunt her and bully her until she had enough of it and started biting or scratching them or simply punch into the ground out of anger.

As years passed things had become more difficult for Riley, the more trouble she got into. Although unknown to her, it was the start of her tapping into her initia powers. It wasn’t until her 14th birthday where she learned the truth. On the way back from school she was walking back to the foster home, walking the same route she normally took. Riley was nearly given an heart attack when she was pulled to the side of the street by someone she’d never met before. After being told of what this person was and what they could do with proof of it, Riley slowly began to trust them, feeling as though she’d finally found someone who knew what was going on with her and why. Riley met the stranger every day and days soon turned into weeks where the young Initia found out more about what she was and understand the element that she could control, this being air. Riley was warned that although the air was calm and light, it could quickly become dark and violent.

However, the stranger disappeared one night after only a few weeks. Though in the alley where the two of them would often meet to talk about the powers that the Initia people possessed and also teach Riley some control, was a letter addressed to Riley. The letter told the young Initia about a town, where many people like her lived and felt safe, where they could practice their powers and not feel ashamed of who they were because of it. The town was rightly nicknamed the Eternal City due to its supernatural species who lived there, but when Riley actually found the location of Evermore City, she almost cried, not knowing how was she ever going to get to Colorado. The home she was staying at barely had enough funding to keep the actual house together but Riley had made up her mind. She would somehow manage to move to Evermore City, learn more about the Initia’s culture and their traditions, but more importantly she wanted to learn more about her family and she thought maybe Evermore City held those answers that she needed.

Years went by and the dream of moving to Evermore City became exactly that, just a dream. Riley was studying and working, just to keep living in a shoebox of an apartment that she could barely keep. Riley had become more aware about the "other" world that existed alongside the one she thought she belonged to for most of her life. She found allies in a few Initia’s months after her 14th birthday who also lived in New York. They showed her more ways she could practice her elemental magic and with their help she learned enough about the powers she possessed to keep them under control, only being used on the rare occasion.

Riley and the others Initia’s had talked for a few years about moving to Evermore City. With their help, her dream became so close to a reality. One of her friends had bought an old truck which could take them all to Colorado, to the place where they could live and learn with other Initia’s just like them...but fate played a cruel hand once again.

The night before Riley and her friends were to leave their old lives in New York to start afresh in Evermore, her friends were murdered in a robbery. Riley had not been with them when it happened, wanting a few hours to herself before they all set out early the next morning. They had gone out for one final night out in New York, and it was on their way home that the worst possible thing happened. A thief had snuck up on them and held them at gunpoint, asking for all their money and valuables. Though something must have happened to scare the thief off after the gun had been fired because all her friends had been killed, though all their belongings were still with them.

Riley had been listed as their emergency contact, so when the police called Riley and told her the news of the tragic accident that had happened, her whole world shattered and crumbled to pieces. It was as she she sat in her apartment, mourning the loss of her friends who had become like a family to her, that she noticed the keys of the truck laying on the table. Without a second thought that could change her mind, Riley packed up all her belongings in her apartment and left New York, hoping that once she reached Evermore City, she could start afresh with a new life.
