Tabitha had always been quiet. Even as a baby she didn’t cry or laugh or make little baby nonsense noises very often. Although she grew up in a loving household and had a happy, if boring childhood, she always felt apart, too grounded, too trapped. Her parents often fretted that they were the cause of her behaviour and she saw more than a few psychologists as she grew up. She tried to explain her feelings, but every person who listened put it off as one of those phases that she’d grow out of. She never did. By the time she was 15 her parents had given up. She did not have very good experiences in public schools and became home schooled from the time she was 12 onward. Online schooling fit her well and it was obvious she was an extremely smart person, but just didn’t talk much. She often times seemed detached from her surroundings and the people around her.

Her family soon learned that she was obsessed with birds. First it was a book, then a few books, and then her bookshelf was filled with volumes of birds, mostly song birds. She always seemed to have dreams of flying and loved mimicking bird calls. Her mom tried to get her into bird watching groups, but Tabitha always wandered off by herself so there wasn’t really any point and her dad bought her a sparrow to keep as a pet, but she simply released it with no explanation.

Over time her quiet demeanour seemed to turn into depression and she always seemed sad, where before she had been spacey, always daydreaming. Now she sighed softly and could occasionally be heard singing or crying faintly from her room. It was hard to tell sometimes which was which. Her parents had no idea how to help her and eventually shipped her off to a boarding school in England, hoping to ‘broaden her horizons’. Although she picked up a noticeable British accent, she otherwise seemed unaffected by her time spent there and even though her parents received unusual gossip about an American girl that had been surrounded by strange happenings during the school year, Tabitha’s name never came up.

She was tapped shortly after she turned 18, still living in the attic of her parent’s home, getting ready for college at Evansville University in Indiana. Becoming a supernatural creature efficiently threw a wrench in those plans though. She traveled across America to get to Evermore City, following her dreams early on and without question, wondering at the newly formed mark on her wrist, but not questioning any of the circumstances. She sent occasional letters to her mother and father so they knew she was safe, but never mentioned any of the happenings. She easily found the Sun Clan and made a niche within it, feeling free once her animal was released

She became a much more talkative person then, but still didn’t say much, managing to keep to herself. She loved her new life and easily made peace with both the human girl she had been and the shifter she had become.
