Sendai, capital of the Miyagi Prefecture in Japan. Toru Keji is born several seconds before his twin brother Kaoru on July 1st, 1998. The twins share an extremely close bond whilst growing up, doing everything together. From their father they receive strict and daily training in various martial arts, such as Judo, Karate, Kenjutsu and Aikido. Despite their tight knit relationship to their parents, the boys were left unaware of their fathers greatest secret. Whilst their mother was human, he was an Initia, a supernatural creature with the ability to control the element of air. Even though he wasn’t human, their family was a normal one. The twins grew up raised by loving parents and nothing out of the ordinary ever happened. Whilst his brother Kaoru preferred to stick his nose in a book or to tinker with technology and science experiments, Toru was never one to sit around indoors and study. Usually found outside he started playing Volleyball and a couple other sports from a young age. Due to being rather tall and immensely flexible, he excelled at Volleyball and soon became one of the top players at his Middle School. Whilst enjoying being on the court, he also took a liking to history and more often than not was found with his nose buried in a history book. Despite the glaring differences in the boys they were nearly inseparable.

The dynamics shifted when the twins reached the tender age of thirteen, with a strange looking tribal tattoo suddenly appearing on their lower backs. The two had no idea how the strange mark had appeared or what it meant, each keeping it a secret even from each other for several weeks. Almost too afraid to confess in one another, they didn’t dare bring up the subject to their parents and had to pretend they’d gotten the tattoo in secret. It was unusual and they despised making their parents worry. Yet because of this they had to work on their own to find out why and how the mark had appeared, what it meant for the two and how it would affect their lives.

Toru’s life changed forever after he started experiencing strange feelings of pain whenever he was around fire, finding it immensely difficult to be able to be near a fire or even look at flames without feeling a deep sense of discomfort and anger. Yet despite his obvious discomfort of the element he was fixated by it, by every single thing it could do and how it could draw him in and capture his attention. It wasn’t until his brother had mentioned his own troubles, this time with water, that he put the two together. The pain and fascination came after the tattoo, the two seemingly being connected in some way. It was both exhilarating and scary, having being able to make the connection but not understand why it happened.

Promising themselves, and each other to find out the true meaning behind the tattoo and their individual obsessions and connections to their elements, the boys started researching about the supernatural. During their seventeenth year they decided to take a gap year and leave Japan to be able to broaden their horizon. Moving halfway across the globe to enrol in an American University, the twins decide to continue their search for answers there. Whilst Kaoru studied technology, Toru chose history and English Literature in an attempt to pursue his dream career of historian and author. He also joined the Universities Volleyball team, the players happily accepting him into their ranks due to the prestigious High School he played for in Japan. The twins packed up their bags and belongings and headed off to College in Evermore City, in Colorado. Unknown to them that the city hides many secrets some of which would answer their questions and hold the truth of what they really were, and perhaps even more.
