Riddled in pain, Xiao laid there, as still as the night surrounding him. It was a hot summer night in the  Mojave Desert, about an hour’s drive northeast of Barstow, California.  Nothing but an eerie silence loomed for the fallen star not realizing that he had fallen right in the middle of a desert surrounded by sleeping soldiers. Unable to remember a single thing about himself, Xiao shrugged it all away, thinking he had hit his head a little too hard when he fell from the sky. He had fallen completely alone, having absolutely no one there to tell him what had happened. His feeble attempts in getting up had only failed, causing him more frustration, especially since the men who gathered around him slowly became alert and had begun to stare at him for what seemed hours.

One of these men ushered the others away before kneeling beside  Xiao; unable to believe his eyes at first. A human that glowed only posed a threat during times like this. Some of the men assumed that it was their enemies that had sent Xio to attack them. The soldier who had ushered the others to leave took him back to his own tent, cleaned him up, dressed him; while asking questions to which Xiao had no answers.. It seemed that the more questions the man asked, the more irritable Xiao became. With that, the older man let Xiao rest for the remainder of the night.  They had agreed to talk more the next morning. Desperate to just close his eyes and sleep the pain away, Xiao closed his eyes.

Morning came early to Xiao’s disliking. Men all over the base gathered for showers, breakfast, etc.  Xiao followed their lead, but seemed to lag behind the rest, still in pain. Discomfort pained Xiao saw as odd that the men did everything together, even showered together. There was no form of privacy to be had when you were stationed somewhere in the military. The man who had doctored Xiao up the previous night made sure that Xiao was seen by the base medic... Later that day after the morning routine, Xiao learned the name of the man who had generously taken him in; Jaxon Reynolds.

Jaxon specialized in combat, and ran a teaching course every day during the evening time. In exchange for Xiao’s help around the base he was stationed at, Jaxon had promised to start teaching Xiao how to live in this world. Every day the two sat down for breakfast and did things like mathematics, history, and English. Eventually, Xiao had even learned different skills and techniques when it came to fighting. Combat became something Xiao excelled in, but he faced one scary truth. When he used hand-to-hand combat, his powers were like a loose cannon, and Xiao had no control over them. It was during one of these moments that Xiao’s life turned upside down. For the better part of the time that he had spent with Jaxon, who was now more like a father to him than anything, Jaxon had kept him in an isolated spot to train, trying to help him gain control of his powers and avoid drawing attention from the wrong people.

Xiao had lost control one night during one of their many training sessions, drawing the attention of other soldiers who resided on base where Jaxon did.

When the soldiers got to the training area, Xiao’s powers were out of control.  His glow was more pronounced as he fought back. Each punch was more powerful than the next, until the inevitable happened… the power of his last punch caused Jaxon sent him recoiling backward ten feet away. No one was more surprised then Xiao.  He stared at his hand incredulous of what he had done. This was only practice, Xiao told himself. He had barely touched his mentor, yet as he looked where the other soldier now stood dusting himself off, Xiao saw his friend with a look of astonishment in his face.  Seeing they now had an audience Jaxon soon told the other soldiers there was nothing more to see so they all disperse.

Unbeknown to Jaxon and Xiao, a group of soldiers had been deep in conversation about the fighting power they had witnessed.  They made a few phone calls and by early the following morning, before the crack of dawn, a plan was formed.

Once more Xiao woke up disoriented, at first thinking he was in a dream, but he heard the sound of gunfire and the smell of blood and sweat soon forced him to realize he was no longer at the military base.  He ducked a bullet just before it hit him. Somehow Xiao had known something dangerous was coming his way. Bullets began to rain from the sky. He saw a jet, but it looked so different from the ones at the base Xiao couldn't tell if it was friendly or not.

“Move it soldier, shows us what you got.”  A man yanked Xiao from his crouching position.  Xiao looked at the soldier wondering who it was.  As Xiao was about to ask a question, he heard a familiar voice, with relief Xiao turned around.  He had not even taken a step when a landmine detonated. All the soldiers who had been closed to him now lay in pieces, the blood soon absorbed by the thirsty sand while Xiao had remained intact. Running as fast and as far as he could, Xiao was met with an old scruffy looking woman, she wore a dirty dress and spoke with a deep voice, but she had offered him shelter. However, the old woman was only working for the soldiers who wanted to use Xiao as a weapon. She had been paid to give him shelter, should he run that way, and to his misfortune, that’s exactly what Xiao had done. It wasn’t long before Xiao was settled into the old woman's small shack, fed and changed into clean clothes. He had just fallen asleep when a group of soldiers traded her a bag full of money, for Xiao himself. Xiao had no fight left within him, this was it, he told himself. A part of him had prayed he would die today. Much to his sadness, he hadn’t died at all. Instead, the soldiers used him for just the very thing they had intended to all along. Either Xiao used his powers to kill their enemies, or he’d be beaten to death, and he was, many times. Xiao couldn’t bear to kill children even those with bombs strapped around them, but he had to in order to live another day.

It was a sick, vicious cycle until one day, someone had taken him away once more. Xiao had woken up to a more clean atmosphere, and couldn’t help but notice the energy he felt around him, a familiarity. He had been rescued by the Wayfinder. Xiao was greeted by others like him, and had begun to live a little bit out of the ordinary, however, he was pretty intense towards the other Celestials. After everything he had saw, and did just to survive, he trusted no one. And many attempts at the others trying to get to know him, led to Xiao fighting them, sometimes even psychically harming them. Ophelia had been the only one to calm but even then, he was a ticking time bomb. The Celestial had barely begun to live again and taste freedom when everything he knew, went to hell when the Isle fell apart. Once more, he and the rest like him had been taken against their will, caged like animals.

He had eventually lost will power, and time. Time didn’t seem to exist to the Celestial any more, and he’d become quite numb to everything and everyone around him. Xiao never spoke, and he had shut out the world around him. It was easier that way. To not care and become completely numb to everything was easier. It was the second time that he had gained his freedom, that Xiao had finally snapped. Although he knew he was free again, he was in denial and begged for death. After everything he had been through, it was no wonder Xiao had lost pretty much all sanity. Today Xiao is learning how to start over, having to face the truth. That freedom is his for good. Being rehabilitated helped him, but not much, the only thing different for Xiao now, is that he has reached out to the other Celestials, forming a close bond with all of them, and staying especially close to the one person who helped him understand that he would be okay someday; Ophelia. Xiao hopes to someday find himself, and a true calling in the city they all call home now. Evermore has begun growing on him, and he plans to branch out, maybe even find a hobby or a job. But one thing is for sure, Xiao would never be the same, not after all the war-stricken areas he had been forced to kill in.
