Zaphkiel was born into a native American tribe in the west of America, he was raised alongside several other members of his tribe whom had always been close with another. Zaphkiel however had always been the opposite of the others in his tribe, he was the one the others would force to do his homework for him or treat him differently than everyone else they knew. Zaphkiel hated being that person but when he was young he didn't say a word to stand up for himself and instead kept his mouth shut.

As Zaphkiel moved into his teens he found himself under more and more pressure from the other boys in his tribe and when he went to a party with his so-called friends and watched them set a house on fire he knew he needed to get away. The next day he found the police at his door demanding that he need to come down to the station regarding an arson attack. During his short stay in a cell Zaphkiel discovered a tattoo that had appeared on his right wrist, it was that of the sun and no matter how much he scrubbed at it, it would not disappear.

A few hours later Zaphkiel's parents bailed him out of jail and took him home, they gave him a fake passport and his things in a suitcase and told him that he needed to run. It was clear that he was going to go down for a crime he didn't do if he didn't. So with a heavy heart he ran, he didn't know where he was going but he needed to get away. After leaving he started to have nightmares every night, at first he thought they must have been to do with him missing home,. but as time went on, the visions got clearer and more frightening and they all consisted of the same set of animals.

After a long week of wandering, Zaphkiel found himself in Evermore city, this was where he met the shifter clan, or more accurately they met him after spotting the tattoo branded on his atm. It turned out he had been tapped to become a shifter, a protector species who's main goal was to care and protect humans. They performed a ritual on him and he become the Arctic Fox shifter, a nimble and intelligent animal. The clan were supportive of him and helped him to master his shifting skill and Zaphkiel felt like he finally found a place where he belonged, where he could be himself without fear of people taking advantage of him.
