Luke Kemper was not born as Luke Kemper. Instead, his parents had named him Nathan Colbert, but after the infection took over, Nathan Colbert ceased to exist. Nathan Colbert grew up in Appleton, Wisconsin. He spent his entire childhood there, as did his parents, and their ancestors before them. His father owned a sub shop that his sister, mother, and himself helped run for as long as he could remember. They were the perfect family, until the Colbert’s world was rocked by the tragic murder of their son, Nathan. The news reported that Nathan, 17 at the time, had been sent by his father to open up their restaurant while Mr. and Mrs Colbert took their daughter Mindy, 14, to cheerleading practice. When Mr and Mrs. Colbert returned to the store to begin preparing for the lunch rush, they were met with a gruesome scene. The front door was wide open, and the handle seemed to of been broken off, so whoever had entered had done so forcefully. Several chairs were upturned, and tables pushed to the side. Their was a trail of blood leading out the back door, and a bloody handprint on one of the tables that had been pushed out the way. Police also mention another handprint on the back door, and another on the wall outside, all three were confirmed to be Nathan’s. Police theorized that this had been a robbery gone wrong, and that Nathan had been injured and wondered off in search of help. After calling all the nearby hospitals, clinics, and emergency care, however, they couldn’t find him. They sent out a search party, thinking that he may of collapsed somewhere, and gave the his name and photo to local news stations so the public could be informed and be on the lookout. After two days with no calls, they sent out an amber alert, fearing that the robbers may of kidnapped him out of fear. When the story finally broke to the public, police stated that the video cameras had been destroyed, and no despite their best efforts, the videos couldn’t be restored. Meaning the only hope they had fot finding Nathan was an eyewitness coming forward. After only 5 months, the case went cold. They had no evidence other than an elderly woman who claimed she had seen a bloody teenager crossing the highway on her way home from her grandchildren’s house. She had tried to get him into the car, but he had already disappeared by the time she had pulled over. Nathan Colbert had seemingly dropped off the face of the planet. Nathan Colbert did die that night, but not in the literal since. (Well... you know what I mean. I’m trying to be dramatic, ok?) When Nathan parked his car outside of his families sub shop that morning, he could immediately tell something was off. The street was silent, something it never was. The chirping of the birds awaking, the rustling of the trees by the wind, the chattering of squirrels, and even the sound of cars driving by weren’t there. It was dead quiet. Uneasily, Nathan unbuckled his seat belt, cringing at how loud it sounded breaking through the eerie silence. He slowly got out of the car, and shut the door softly, eyes darting around his surroundings. That’s when he saw him. A tall blonde man stood at the end of the street, smirking softly at Nathan. His eyes had a look of malice, as well as a hint of something Nathan felt was familiar, yet couldn’t place. His heart rate sped up, and a sick feeling made its way into the pit of his stomach, shakily, he started to pull the keys to the shop from his pocket, but was stopped by someone yanking him backwards. Nathan’s eyes widened when he made eye contact with the silver haired male pinning him against the car. He had the same look in his eyes as the blonde, who had begun making his way towards them. Over his captives shoulder, he could see a flash of a red beard, adding up to three captures. “Finally caught a decent toy.” The silver haired man hissed at Nathan, pupils dilating. “He was supposed to me mine, Randy.” The blonde, looking slightly peeved, growled at the silver haired man, apparently known as Randy. “You gotta be faster, Markus.” Randy grinned. “Thanks for distracting him though. I’m sure you’ll get the next one, well, unless Jacob beats ya to it.” Nathan’s mind was racing while trying to process what was going on. Meal? Faster? Jacob? Marcus? Randy? It wasn’t until Randy revealed his fangs did Nathan understand. Right as the fangs pierced his skin, Nathan got a bust of strength and forced Randy off of him, taking a chunk of skin with him. Blood gushed out of his neck as he shoved the key into the door, and locked it behind him. The vampires, coming out of their stupor, the group of Vampires rushed the store, trying to force their way inside, Going dizzy from blood loss, Nathan stumbled around the shop in search of things to block the door. In the middle of pushing a table towards the entrance, the vampires broke the lock and attacked. He doesn’t remember which one got him in the end, but he knows one got him. Only one thought raced through his mind as he lay on that cold, tiled floor. “I’m going to turn.” With his vision blurring, Nathan stumbled out the back, his bloody hand grabbing things in order to keep steady. Out of the corner of his eye he noticed Jacob, the red head, destroying the security cameras. He couldn’t help but feel relieved. Over the next few weeks, Nathan would turn. He’d meet up with a vampire who helps those who turn start over. He was assigned the name Luke Kemper, and told to move to Evermore, Colorado, a sort of safe haven for the supernatural. He died his hair, and got colored contacts so he wouldn’t be recognized, and headed to Colorado. He never went back to Wisconsin, leaving his friends and family to believe Nathan Colbert was dead. And in a way, he was. Luke Kemper was who he was now, who he will forever be.
