Daniel had been at university for a few months and he'd decided life here quite suited him, there was a free and youthful atmosphere that fitted with him well. He'd made a lot of friends already, studying sports tended to help with that, he'd met a fair few of the cheerleaders along with people who just liked to hang out at the sports field. That didn't leave him a lot of time back at the dorms so he did sometimes try to make time to check back to the room every so often for Seojun.
The grumpy male tended to keep to himself though and he was usually off chasing one of the redheads in the girls dorms who he liked to remind Daniel often wasn't his girlfriend. The human liked the experience of being single at college though, it left him the freedom to hang out with whoever wanted, and with his roommate rarely being around it wasn't exactly hard to sneak people in here and there.
That was all due to change today though, he'd known for about week they were planning to fill the empty room in their shared apartment. And of course as soon as they told him the guy's name he had totally stalked him on social media, he was pretty cute he had to admit. Mostly he was trying to ensure his new roommate wasn't going to be as miserable as the other one because it would be nice to have someone to drag to parties with him. He had just gotten back from practice, heading up the stairs and into the room before noticing that new guy's stuff was already in his room but there was no sign of him.
Daniel raised a curious brow and turned back towards the main room wondering where he could have gone, he headed out of the hall and peered curiously before heading out towards the shared bathroom. He couldn't hear the sound of the shower running but when he pushed on the door to open it, it was locked it "Is someone in there?" he questioned curiously, he usually went for a shower after practice because usually no one else was around this time of day, either at class or study hall.

He hummed softly in affirmation when Daniel said that, it was unlikely to find any lie in that kind of statement. "Sometimes… It's good that others don't know. You can't know everything, right? Who knows if it'll be detrimental to them…" Like how he couldn't couldn't the human before him right now that he's not exactly… human. Hiding the fact that he's a valkyr would technically be considered a white lie too, right? He couldn't help but blush because what does he even mean by spicing things up a little? It sounded so… ominous. But at the same time, Jihoon had to admit, he was curious to know.
"Siblingzoned… have you ever done that? I mean being on the receiving end and giving one" He met plenty of people who were friendzoned but to be siblingzoned? That sounds painful honestly. But the valkyr doubted someone like him would have gone through that. He looks like that idelaistic handsome quarterback you'd see in the coming-of-age movies. Only he's not realistic… not with that face. God he is one handsome guy. "There's no need to rush when you're doing your studies like this… you don't want to miss out on the things you wished you would've had the chance to do" Admittedly he's saying this because technically, he did graduate school and he was killed so both scenarios gave him enough input to talk about it.
"As long as you're doing fine and you're happy… that's enough." Maybe it shouldn't be that easy but shouldn't they at least try to do that? They owed some happiness to themselves. "Apple crumble with vanilla ice cream…" Yeah, his mouth is watering too. The signage was so aesthetically pleasing and before long, he found himself pushing past the entrance door and the sound of the bells rang familiarly in his ears. The smell of baked goods filled the air and the valkyr groaned "I'm tempted to rush to the kitchen…" He dragged him to take a seat and pointed to the pastries displayed at the front "Look…"
Daniel shrugged his shoulders slightly, if it reminded him of one thing it was that people were complicated and everyone was fighting their own fight in their own way, not everyone felt comfortable enough to be open about their experiences and reality and they didn’t have to be, not if it caused them trauma or pain at least “You just have to find that right balance of finding people you can trust…keeping something to yourself alone will end up making you explode” he was the poster child for someone who spent far too long bottling up their emotions.
Daniel laughed and shrugged his shoulders “I haven’t, but I’ve known people who grew up alongside others…you know like a childhood friend they ended up having feelings for? That rarely works out the way both people were hoping for” but it wasn’t anyone’s fault right? People had the right to feel however they wanted about others, even if they didn’t align. “That’s the plan, I’ve got a while to just…live” and he wanted to do that, because what he had been through had drilled one very clear thing into him, you had to live while you were here, because you never knew when it could come to an end “But I still wanna figure it out you know…it’d be good to have some kind of…goal” but it was hard to imagine what he might want to spend the next big chunk of his life doing.
“Well my parents are hoping for a bit more direction than that but” he shrugged slightly, they could wait, there was still time and right now they were busy being proud that their son had gotten into college. He licked his lips at the mention of crumble with vanilla ice cream “I have the feeling being around you is going to be a constant state of being hungry” he teased, he honestly hadn’t expected for a culinary student to be joining his dorm. Daniel followed Jihoon with a bemused expression on his face because of how excited and passionate he seemed “You weren’t kidding about really wanting to come here huh” he took a seat across from him and eyed the pastries he was pointing out “They do smell pretty amazing though” his stomach even grumbled in response.
Looking at Daniel and the dorm he just entered reminded him of the life that perhaps he could've had but also missed out on. It's true that he did lead a good life up until now but the moment he got in Juilliard, life has been pretty unpredictable for him, everything was in a constant state of perfection and knowing just how much of a perfectionist the valkyr could be, it's crazy to even match half of it. Here, it's where he could take his time learning and enjoying what he couldn't. Maybe there was something he could learn from this second chance. Yeon saved him and he should make use of this card the best he could. "That doesn't seem nice… some people might wish it would turn out well, like you know… people who have their best friends? That they end up crushing you eventually? Will that one not work out too?"
He was curious, though admittedly just like what Daniel has said, it was a rare occurrence to see anything from the high school days being brought up in the future. The whole definition of the past remains the past. The moment his ears caught the word live, he swore his heart was about to jump out. Why does that word feel so sensitive? "Funny how that word is so foreign to me too… how do you define living, exactly?" Is it just enjoying your life? Was that the only basis of it? "I had a goal, and I achieved it… and I was happy. But then I wasn't sure if I wanted to continue doing that now… I think it's like living a different life while being the same person? I'm not sure if that's possible but it definitely feels that way to me."
Jihoon still loves dancing just as much as he loves cooking. The difference was that he never got to pursue that hobby back then, and now he could, because he realized there's no rush, there's nothing for him to chase. Not the fame nor the name. He'll be a happy baker who could also spend his time being a professional dancer. He chuckled when the human pointed out how hungry he'd be around him "That's the idea. At least I have someone close by to be my food tester. My old one is living a bit far from me, I can't go and bother him, he might actually put me in a freezer." Knowing Dae? The guy would give him a nasty frostbite and scowl. Still, he's a cute cat guy.
"Let me get you their signatures and specials, sit here for a bit" he exclaimed before going up to the counter, greeting the cashier with a bright smile and starting picking out his orders. After a while, he came back with a tray of pastries and 2 drinks. "I didn't know what you'd like but I hope you like coffee? Their caramel macchiato is the best."
Daniel shrugged his shoulders slightly in response to Jihoon’s question about relationships that came from long-term friendships “Well If you’ve known someone that long, shouldn’t you have had an inkling of how you felt about them earlier than years down the line?” even if someone was keeping quiet, surely people knew if they found someone attractive at the very least.
He tilted his head slightly, the other male was so curious, almost like he was buffering when it came to the things he heard and processed how to respond to them “Getting to do the things you really wanna do…see concerts, buy the stupid things, make mistakes” he shrugged his shoulders slightly “Do the things that make you feel happy” that was how he saw it anyway, he wanted the chance to just choose things for himself. The way Jihoon talked felt a little cryptic to him, he supposed there were things in his past he didn’t want to talk about so the other male wouldn’t push him.
“You’re allowed to have more than one dream and dreams don’t have to be big” he pointed out and pressed his lips together “If anything, the smaller dreams could end up being the most memorable” getting to see your favorite band, learning a skill you never thought you’d be able to achieve…anything along those lines. He laughed “Well my parents always said I’m a human vacuum so by all means, let me know if you need my services” he’d played sports from a young age so his metabolism had always been high and as he got older he started to work on building muscle too.
Daniel waited patiently as Jihoon went to go and order the food for them, he had no idea what he’d end up eating but as long as it didn’t contain mushrooms he was willing to give anything a go. When the other male set down the food and drinks he grinned “I’m a student, coffee is basically necessary” he teased and smiled “Thanks for sharing your excitement” he enjoyed being around passionate people. “Any other secret obsessions you have?” he questioned with a playful grin.
That's a nice question. Wouldn't he have an inkling to them if he had known them for a while? It made Jihoon backtrack a bit as he stared at the human in a confused way because why the hell does that make sense? "Maybe… I mean I know I should but… somehow it doesn't feel that way? I don't know, I don't want to assume either." God knows he doesn't even know for sure, how could he speculate? "But yes… you usually would just find someone naturally very attractive and not… try it out" he murmured, that… is something he could not deny at all. But that's just Jihoon being extremely shy.
He's outgoing and he has a bubbly personality but the thing is, the valkyr is quite shy and he doesn't confess easily either. He's likely to have his cheeks flaming red before any single word uttered. Maybe it sounded crazy that he has never really had the time in his life to do those… things Daniel just listed down because he was either too busy working hard and earning his career or he didn't have the time to go out with his friends and mingle around. To be fair, he did form a nice friendship with Yeon hence everything. "Dancing makes me happy… baking… and cooking makes me happy" So wouldn't it be natural for him to keep doing those? He may not be in Juilliard anymore but he would break some moves whenever he hears music, especially in the kitchen.
"Do you have a dream too?" They kept talking about him, how he needs to expand his horizons but what about his roommate? What was his dream? The valkyr was curious because he has heard about Seojun, very little but still something yet he hasn't gotten out much from this roommate that's right in front of him. He cleared his throat and whispered playfully when Daniel asked him if he had any other secret obsessions "Swimming… I love the feeling of water… it gives me serenity…" Jihoon couldn't recall how much he loves swimming, it builds up his strength and flexibility while also offering peace of mind. "What about you? Tell me one of yours."
Daniel shrugged slightly “I guess that means you probably haven’t found your someone yet” he commented in a soft voice, the human could relate, while he had met so many people in his life he’d never really let anyone in close. He was afraid of what it would be like to let someone in…let them in on all of his little secrets, his quirks, see the softer parts of him and then for them to one day twist it, to use the weakest parts of him against him. “Attractiveness doesn’t always equate to compatibility though, I think Tessa Blake is gorgeous but there’s no way that date would ever work out” he teased playfully as he rested his chin against his hands.
Daniel found Jihoon interesting, he was a shy person when you first met him, but now that they had spent most of the day together he had opened up a lot, he was sure the other male would come into his own with time. “That’s a lot of things that make you happy” he commented with a small smile “It must keep you busy to have so many hobbies” and Jihoon definitely give him the impression that he was always doing something “I bet you keep lists don’t you” he grinned slightly “So you don’t get stage fright?” he questioned curiously.
“I did” he responded when Jihoon asked him if he had a dream “I used to put that dream above everything…and it definitely came back to bite me” he had never really been very good at balancing his own dreams with the rest of his life “I used to want to go pro in football…but honestly…I don’t think football matters as much to me as it used to” he nodded slightly “I think I might go into personal training…helping people achieve their goals…” that could be interesting right. He grinned when Jihoon said he loved swimming “Swimming huh? I used to be on the swim team at one point…though most people just joined the swim team to show off their body” he laughed playfully.
“I like anime?” he responded, biting his lip because it was slightly embarrassing “Not just the shows but I read a lot of the webtoons too” he found the stories interesting honestly. “I even went to a few conventions…” though that wasn’t something he told his friends.
When he said it was probably because he hasn't found someone yet, he blushed and cleared his throat because he thought he found… someone. Until it wasn't the right one. "Maybe… depends on how you define that someone is, I guess. I've met plenty of people but… you know, they end up being just… people." It was a bit disappointing but because Jihoon was more busy being studious as hell and focusing on excelling, he didn't really mind that much. But now that the human has said that, he could feel that heart of his wanting to beat again. "Tessa Blake… is gorgeous…" Even he would admit that. Who wouldn't find a celebrity hot right? Anyone sane would.
He wasn't a hard person to make happy. "I mean, I'm an easy guy to appease, Daniel." There wasn't much you actually needed to do for him. Someone could literally get him a cake and he'd literally be over the moon. "Having a lot of hobbies makes bit easier for me to focus on something other than my studies? It's why culinary is my second degree… I was in Juilliard's for dancing so… I never really had enough time to really just enjoy it, you know?" Now is his second chance.
He wanted to enjoy it to the fullest. The life he never had. The life Yeon gave him. Jihoon shook his head when he was asked if he had stage fright "I don't… being on the stage feels so natural to me. I love it." It felt as if it was part of him. He instinctively looked down to his lower body when he said he was part of the swimming team once upon a time "Yeah… you look like you were in more than just the swimming team…" Daniel had a very fit body. Seeing it up close even with his clothes on was very obvious. "Conventions? That sounds exciting… Take me next time? Do you cosplay a lot? If you do… as what?"
Daniel raised his brows but nodded slightly. He got the impression that Jihoon was a little shy so he figured even if he did find someone he liked, he probably wasn’t brave enough to tell them as much “People huh?” he responded and grinned slightly “I can get that, you never know how someone else going to act or what they’ll do” he’d always found that people could be quite fickle, one moment they wanted to know you, the next they were onto the next, more interesting person. “See, we can agree on that much” he jested softly, there were plenty of other celebrities he could name too “Dating a celebrity would be complicated as hell though, could you imagine” he chuckled softly.
“I can see that” he teased softly, honestly he was quite relieved to have someone so amiable as his new roommate, especially given Seojun and his picky nature, he wasn’t sure he could handle there being two of them. “You should come to a party with me some time, I can help you find some friends, maybe introduce you to a few ladies if that’s what you’re into” he raised his brows playfully, if they were going to be living together for the foreseeable future he wanted to make sure the other male was comfortable. “I see…I’ll make to check your schedule 6 months in advance when I want to hang out then” he jested but smiled, he was a little envious of how expressive and full of life Jihoon seemed to be.
He also found it impressive that someone who seemed a little shy and bashful like Jihoon didn’t get stage fright “Well then put me first on the list to watch next time you perform” he had to see this for himself, because he must really be passionate about it if he could do it without feeling nervous “Even I get jitters just before a match” he mumbled softly. Seeing Jihoon light up at the idea of conventions he tilted his head a little “Well I’ve worn a few…superhero type costumes but only like the leather jacket kind” not a full on costume “I’d love to be able to make those really cool costumes but I’ve never been that…arty” he confessed.
Being new was always hard, especially for someone like him. Was he introverted? No. He was rather friendly and sociable with people in general. However, he can be quite nervous when he realizes things might not go exactly the way he planned it. In this case, Jihoon likes to make sure everything is picture perfect or if there is any flaw, it shouldn't exceed 10%. And if someone were to ask him, he thought even 5% is too much of a mistake.
The thought of dating a celebrity made his brain short-circuit for a quick moment, "A celeb... I know even celebs want to feel normal sometimes but I couldn't help but wonder, why would anyone jump into a pit like that dating them? Wouldn't it bring so many problems..." Sucks to be the one on the other end, of course. But Jihoon couldn't see himself dating someone so famous or popular. He couldn't cope well under the cameras' pressure so he would flail as if his lifeboat was sinking in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. "Still, one can find a celeb hot... they are idolized after all" Tessa Blake doesn't seem like she would appreciate the company of men though. But that's the vibe he gets from her.
When he found out there were supposed to be 3 of them in one apartment, he was a bit worried because while he would love to make new friends, what if their personalities clash with each other? It had been a while since he had started studying. His time in Juilliard was not like this. People often leave people alone there. "Don't be ridiculous, you have the roommate card, you can get into my schedule in 6 minutes" he teased back. Daniel seemed like a good person and the way he interacted with him, trying his best to make sure the valkyr was comfortable made him appreciate the other guy even more.
"Party... yeah it's been a while since I've gone to one." His social life has been close to zero ever since becoming a valkyr. Yeon wouldn't trust him to be anywhere near others. Well, scratch that, by Yeon he meant Dae. That prickly niveis has been very protective and a pain in the ass. "I have a friend who could sculpt those weapons very easily. He's talented with his hand. I can help you design clothes though. We should dress up as a certain character and go to conventions next time. It'll be fun." He took a once over at Daniel and hummed softly "You're an attractive man. Tall and expressive. Put you in the right costume and people would die."
He watched the other male in amusement, he swear he could see cogs spinning in his head as he tried to comprehend the life that would be involved when it came to dating a celebrity “You’re saying it like it’s ever going to happen” he teased softly and grinned “You’re supposed to just think about what it would be like to be with someone crazy attractive and then move on” he chuckled softly “You must overthink a lot huh” Daniel had never been the type to think too much about something, he just went into things and see how they played out one way or another, sure, some of it ended badly, but he had plenty of stories to tell either way.
Daniel raised his brows and chuckled “6 minutes huh” awfully specific but amusing none the less. He wanted to get along with his roommates for as long as he was in college, considering they would probably see plenty of one another and he was the type to just pick up a conversation with anyone and everyone. “A while huh? Not your scene or?” Daniel liked parties because he liked meeting people and it was a great place to let off steam “If you’ve never had a serious game of beer pong at a party before you’re missing out” he teased playfully, a stupid game but a very competitive one.
He raised his brow curiously when Jihoon said he had a friend who could make cosplay weapons “Sounds like you’ve got a lot of interesting friends, guessing none of them came along with you when you moved to Evermore?” he presumed they must have been the friends he made in New York. Daniel grinned when Jihoon complimented him “You think so? I definitely think I could pull off a superhero costume, don’t you think?” he posed playfully and the shook his head slightly.
“So you seem like the type of guy who likes to play at least 10 years in advance” he commented and eyed him for a moment “What’s your big plan?” perhaps he could find some inspiration in him, considering Daniel had absolutely no clue where he was going.
He gave him a look that says as if he was offended by his statement "Well, you're not wrong yeah but do you have to put it that way?" He mumbled and covered his cheeks to hide the blush because he didn't expect him to bring that type of blow to him. "You know people who involve themselves in performance arts, they will become famous one day and that's where they make connections... so meeting a celebrity is not impossible. Dating them? The same case. Not that I'm saying I'd be that person but my friends... they got their spotlight too."
When Daniel mentioned Jihoon was someone who overthinks a lot, he shrugged and cleared his throat awkwardly "Yeah... a bit. I overthink things that shouldn't even be in that mix... it's just who I am." How can he help himself right? "Yeah, 6 minutes. Why? Too short? Too long?" He was so sure the other male had something to say about that too. He has only known him for a while but Daniel seems to give him plenty of hints of the person he is. "I haven't been out in a long while, Daniel... it's just something personal." Usually when a person says that, it is a sign for the other person to not prod too much into the matter. Jihoon still gets sensitive at the memory of him losing the person he once was and molding himself into this current persona. "I like to mingle around, as you can see, I'm a human social butterfly..." Emphasis on the human part.
"But something happened and I couldn't really... be out and about too much." Or ever, if they're being honest. "I've never had a beer pong before... yeah. How do you play those anyway? I feel like most people are too drunk to even fathom what they're doing at the moment." He shook his head and chuckled when he mentioned about his friends "Actually, both of them came here with me. They're not college students though, they're already working." Technically, he was only there to do his second degree. "A superhero costume? You mean the spandex type or... the modern one? Because honestly, I feel like you could rock both." Judging from his physical appearance, yeah definitely both. "Definitely both..." Was he checking him out? Not... necessarily. Daniel is attractive, there's nothing Jihoon can avoid to say that does him justice.
What was his big plan? Jihoon used to think he had everything mapped out but after he became a valkyr, he wasn't sure anymore. "Well... I still dance. But I have no plans to make it a lasting career, perhaps as a hobby to participate in some competitions here and there. I'd finish my degree and go into pastry, I want to open my bakery one day... for now, I'm just looking to work part-time to build experience, you know? What about you? You got something going on?"
Daniel chuckled softly and then scratched the back of his neck a little “Sorry…my mama always tells me I’m far too direct but here I am, can’t help myself” he was direct and perhaps far too honest for his own good most of the time but he was well-intentioned, he never meant to bother anyone. “Still…that would be quite the crazy life to take on huh…nothing would feel like it’s really your own because everyone would be watching so closely….” he couldn’t say that part appealed to him either, too complicated.
He chuckled and shrugged “Very specific is all, is six your lucky number?” he questioned wondering whether he gravitated towards a specific number because it was often on his mind. Daniel observed a lot about the people around him and he liked to think he was pretty good at it honestly. “I see…” he commented softly “You should call me Dan…or Danny” he commented and bit his lip “I feel like you’re my mom scolding me when you say my full first name” he commented and chuckled, running his hand through his hair.
He bit his lip softly when Jihoon said something happened which meant he couldn’t go out too much “Did you get sick?” he asked without much thought before pressing his lips together “Sorry don’t answer that…I’m nosy” he defended and nodded his head slightly in apology. It sounded like Jihoon’s personal life was quite complicated but he wasn’t going to pry any further, it wasn’t his business and they didn’t know each other well yet.
He raised his brows and then smirked when he said he could pull off both classic superhero and modern “I’m not sure I could show up in tights and take myself seriously…” he confessed in a soft voice, he was confident, but that took next level confidence right. As expected, despite having to start over for some reason, Jihoon had a pretty good idea of what he wanted to do with his life “Your own bakery huh…I’ll be the first in line at the opening then…but you have to give me some sneak previews before then” he arched his brow playfully.
“I…kinda have no idea what I want to do” he responded honestly “I enjoy football…but only the very top percentage make it to the big leagues…I need to come up with a backup plan…so I guess that’s my focus this year” he nodded slightly.
