Dominic pounded down the sidewalk as he ran full force through the city streets. It wasn't enough that he was running faster than most normal people could, being Therian and all, but of course it had to be in the middle of human territory. It could really be a nuisance that humans were so kept in the dark when shit was going down. He turned around another city block and caught sight of his target that was knocking over a cafe table full of patrons. Dominic jumped over the fallen chairs and continued forward, not letting the man get away.

It all started with rumors of a pack of out of town Therians who were causing problems throughout Evermore. They had come to start trouble. The kind of illegal trouble that involved moving guns from one place to another. Dominic had discovered one of the safe houses they were keeping the stashes in was somewhere in one of the territories, though he hadn't discovered which one. Yet.

The man he was chasing was a Lycan. After a few drinks at a local bar, he was easily talking to Dominic since he wasn't able to hold his liquor or his secrets very well. If someone was drinking as heavily as he was during the middle of the day, Dominic knew he was going to be the one to talk. It meant he had a guilty conscious. And now here they were, running through the streets filled with thousands of humans. He pushed forward as people were screaming and trying to get out of the way of the chase. "Move! Move!! Out of the way!"

The runaway drunk was starting to lose energy. Alcohol would do that to you, whether you were a supernatural or not. Dominic just held his better. As he was catching up, the man ran into a group of people coming out the building, causing them all to fall to the ground. "Shit..." As he scrambled to his feet and started running again, Dom's eyes caught a familiar Guard who happened to be one of the people who'd taken the hit. "Sapphire! Are you okay?" he asked, keeping his sights on the Lycan. "I could use a hand if you're off work right now!" He began after the man again, hoping she might tag along. Two Ailward Guards was better than one.

Sapphire was just walking down the street to look for some Christmas supplies for her home since Christmas was getting closer. Her blue eyes looked at the people that walked passed her as they were going on with their day. Sapphire walked into a store just to see what they had before she walked out with some other people. She let out a sigh as she thought about what she should buy before noticing a few people running away. She just thought they were just playing around before Sapphire herself was tackled to the ground with others. Sapphire got alittle mad about it before she noticed Dom. "Yea I am fine Dom, What is going on?" She asked before she listened to him as he took off. Sapphire smirked and ran after him as Dom would explain later after they got the guy.

She knew that something was up as she ran faster to keep up with Dom. Sapphire might be a phoenix but she wasnt really as fast as a lycan. Luckily Sapphire was really active and was fast at running. Sapphire ran fast as she could as she tried to keep up with Dom. She then thought that she would be faster in the air once they were out of human sight.

As they continued sprinting down the street, Dominic became more determined to not let him get away, especially now that they'd been at it for several city blocks. He was closing the distance on him finally as he turned another corner and dipped into an alley. As Dom skidded to a stop in the side street, his eyes fell on the runaway Lycan who was banging on the back door to one of the establishments. "Sorry, buddy, but I'm not letting you go."

As Dominic pressed forward, he could see the fear on the man's face while he continued pounding on the door. A moment later it opened and three men stepped out. Two of them, Dominic didn't recognize, but the third... The third he knew very well. Or at least he used to. Dominic's older brother Eric stood there with a smirk he would've liked to have smacked clean off. Suddenly, he heard Sapphire coming up behind him, but quickly put an arm out and pushed her slightly behind him. "What the hell are you doing here, Eric? Last time I saw you, you were chained to some girl and moving to the east coast." His gaze fell to the men's hands. One was holding an electric prod stick while the other had brass knuckles. His brother on the other hand was holding a gun. "Really, asshat? What are you gonna do?"

Eric spat at the ground and smirked, cutting an eye at Sapphire as Dominic was still standing mostly in front of her. "I haven't seen you in a long time, Dommy." Dominic rolled his eyes at the nickname he'd been called as a child. "A lot has changed and so have I. You're blood. For that I'm giving you one chance to walk away." His gaze fell over Sapphire again with a sadistic look. "Don't let her get hurt because of your pride."

"Have you lost your ever-loving mind?! You're working with arms dealers now? The last time I saw you, you abandoned our family and ran off with some girl. Everything went to shit and you never even came back to help. You ran like a little bitch." His anger was rising. All the old feelings and frustrations he had with his siblings was reaching a boiling point. "Where is she anyway? What does Karen think about all this?"

Dominic saw his brother's jaw clench and a new wave of anger passed through him. He knew something must've happened because at the mention of her name, all three of the other men looked at each other. Eric stalked over to them slowly, keeping his icey glare on his younger brother. "I gave you you're warning. Now you deal with them." He nodded to his men and they advanced as Eric turned around and grabbed the original Lycan Dom had been chasing by the collar, dragging him into the building. Dominic stepped completely in front of Sapphire as he waited for the first man to strike.

Sapphire continued to run as Dom stopped at a door. Her blue eyes looked at him as she then looked at the men in front of Dom. The phoenix watched the men as Dom stood in front of her as one of the men looked at her. Sapphire listened to Dom and his brother talk while she continued to look at the other guys. Her eyes looked at Eric as he glanced at her with a sadistic look causing Sapphire to get angry at him. As Eric stalked over to them, Sapphire got ready before Eric turned around while the other men advanced to them. Sapphire noticed that Dom got completely in front of her as they waited for the first man to strike.

Her blue eyes looked at Dom before she moved to his side as she looked at the men. "Dom you go after him, I can take care of these guys." Sapphire said as she looked at him as her nails elongated into talons. "Seriously Dom go!" Sapphire waited for any of the men to attack. Sapphire wanted Dom to know that she could take care of herself as she smirked.

Dominic wasn't the type to just run and leave someone behind, especially a much smaller girl against much bigger guys. He couldn't help it. It was just the gentleman in him. He was more than a little surprised seeing her talons suddenly appear. Now that was pretty cool. As the first man swung, Dominic ducked the attack and grabbed the man's arm, easily taking the electric prod away and kicking him backwards. He tossed the weapon to Sapphire and started backpeddling with his hands up. "I'm sorry, I'm old fashioned." He winked at her and jogged for the door. "Kick their asses."

With a few kicks, the door finally gave way and Dominic stepped inside. He was in the back entrance to a department store which lead directly into their warehouse where all their shipment was located. Scanning the room, he saw his brother and the man he'd been chasing exit a door to the back. Dom ran at full speed to catch up. He got more than a few confusing looks from the employees of the store as he passed by them all.

As he burst through the doorway, he was in another hallway that looked to lead to different stairs going to the other floors of the large building of offices above the department store. He caught sight of the two men as they turned another corner and started after them. Just then, three men turned the same corner into the hallway with raised automatic weapons. "Oh, shit..." Dominic quickly skidded to a stop and ducked behind a wall as they opened fire at him. What made it worse was there were people walking the hall just trying to go about their lives at work.

Between the screaming and echoing of the bullets firing, Dominic could hear them moving forward, no doubt trying to find him. He took the stairwell next to him and began scaling the stairs to the upper floor. Movement outside of the window caught his eyes and he looked down to see Sapphire was finished owning the men from before. She was headed into the back of the building and he knew he had to continue to lead the gunmen upstairs so they wouldn't know she was coming. Dominic continued up the stairs as he heard the men getting closer on his heels.

Sapphire grabbed the electric prod when Dom tossed it to her. She smirked as he walked about being old fashioned before she started to attack the guys when Dom kicked the door down. Her blue eyes looked at each of the guys before she hit one in the back of the head with the head before she kicked the other with her boot. Sapphire used her talons to scratch the the men as she stood there with the men unconscious on the ground. Her eyes widened as she heard the shots fired, Sapphire ran to the back of the building to help him out.

Sapphire scanned the building as she could tell that they were heading upstairs which she then looked around. She wanted to fly up to the roof but she didnt want to risk of her getting found out. An idea came into her head as Sapphire smirked. She backed up before running and jumping onto the wall as she climbed the wall with out being caught. Once she got to the roof, Sapphire hid so they wouldnt see her.

Dominic reached the top of the stairs and pushed the metal door open leading to the maze of a rooftop. On his way up, he'd heard them radio to more of the men in the building. This was getting too much for just the two of them to handle and if Sapphire was anywhere on the stairs, she'd be running right into more trouble if back up came at the same time. He moved to the end of the rooftop and looked down. It was a pretty far drop. Even more than what his supernatural abilities would be able to handle. This was break your legs for sure kind of high.

The men kicked open the door and he took cover behind one of the industrial vents. As they moved forward, he inched around the vent so they wouldn't see him, but he knew it was only a matter of time before he was found. It was then he suddenly caught the familiar sent of a certain Phoenix and knew Sapphire was somewhere nearby, no doubt also hiding. He couldn't believe how quickly things were turning south. They needed to do something fast before more of the men reached the rooftop. The element of surprise was on their side.

As the two passed by him again, he came from out of hiding and snuck up behind them. Dominic pulled his knife from his waistband and grabbed one of the men, placing the blade to his neck. Clearly surprising them both, the second man pointed his gun at Dominic, but hesitated on shooting as he used his friend as a shield. Dominic walked backwards toward the edge of the roof with his hostage as the second man kept his gun up and moved toward them. "You're gonna shoot your friend?" The Therian threatened, pushing the knife deeper against the man's throat. They obviously didn't know it, but Dominic was luring them away from where he could tell Sapphire was hiding from her scent. If she could jump the other guy holding the gun pointed to him and his new hostage, they would get the advantage and take them both down.

Sapphire soon came out of hiding and quietly got towards him before jumping onto the man. She landed on his shoulders as she held her talon like nails at this throat as she used her foot to kick the gun out of his hand. The small phoenix knocked the man out, jumping down off his shoulders as he fell, before looking at Dom as she glanced at the other man knowing that Dom would knock him out. Her blue eyes looked at him before looking at the door as she waited for others to come through if there was others coming to them. "What should we do now?" She asked as she looked over at Dom.

Waiting for what to next, Sapphire got ready as her wings started to come out from her tattoo in flames. She smirked as she was ready to fight with Dom if any more men were coming to fight them.

Dominic couldn't help but grin as he saw Sapphire easily handle the gunman. This little spitfire was more than just her bubbly personality, that's for sure. He would've never pegged her as such a scrapper, but then again, he learned early on that judging a book by its cover when it came to fighting was the worst disadvantage someone could give themself. As he stepped over the fallen man he'd taken down, Dominic could hear the other men coming up the stairwell as he walked over to Sapphire. "We are sorely outnumbered and outgunned. Let's get out of here. Meet me back at the store I saw you at?" He knew she could fly faster just as he could run quicker, so splitting up would be the best option for now to escape. Dominic gave her a reassuring nod just as the door to the roof burst open.

Making sure Sapphire took flight first to get away, he ran full speed to the end of the rooftop and leaped to the adjacent building. He landed hard on the fire escape a few levels below, rolling through the fall. Taking a quick look at the distance to the ground, Dom knew he could make the jump without getting hurt and hopped over the railing to the alley below. The bullets began raining from above as the men started firing. He quickly got through the backstreet and was back out onto the busy sidewalks of the city.

In about five minutes or so, Dominic had made it back to the store where the man at the bar had literally run into Sapphire. She had made it back before him and he gave a small sigh of relief knowing she was safe. He nodded for her to follow them and they moved into a small, trendy cafe. He didn't want to be on the street where they could possibly be found by the men. The hostess sat them at one of the tables and Dominic looked over Sapphire. She didn't look to be hurt, thankfully. "Are you okay?" The waiter came over and dropped off some menus before retreating to the next table. "I'm sorry you got pulled into this. I wasn't expecting it to go to shit like that." He could hear sirens in the background and knew they must be heading towards the shooting. "My brother..." Dominic sat back in his chair and sighed, a scowl on his face. "My brother is a fucking idiot." The waiter came back and took their order to which he got a coffee. "I can't ask you to help with this as you've seen how dangerous it is. I'm gonna track that guy again at one of the watering holes and find where they are working out of. I can't let you get hurt though."

Sapphire nodded as she took flight and flew to where she was suppose to meet him. Her blue eyes looked at him as she followed him to the cafe. Once they were seated, Sapphire looked at him as he asked her a question. "I am fine Dom." She said as the waiter gave them menus. "And its fine you dont have to apologize about it, we are the Guard so we help any Guard that needs help." She said as Sapphire turned her head to the window from the sound of the sirens. Sapphire turned back to him as she listened about his brother. When the waiter came back, Sapphire ordered a coffee also. "Dominic, I know you wont like me helping but now I am and you dont have to worry about me getting hurt." Sapphire said. She sighed as she grabbed a napkin and a pen as she wrote down, 'I can be injured or killed by gold.' before she slid it to him. "I dont know who might be listening in so that is why I wrote it down." She said as she had a serious look on her face.

Dominic turned the napkin to face him and read the note. He recalled learning about how Phoenixes could be hurt and it seemed like the words he'd read before were true. He looked across the table at the bubbly woman and knew she was stronger than she looked. Who would ever believe this tiny person across from him had some serious fight in her? He knew better now and wasn't surprised to understand why she had been chosen to be with the Ailward Guards. Regardless, Dom would't and couldn't let anything happen to her. He was starting to really care for the Phoenix.

"Okay, you win." He grinned at her as the waiter came and served their two coffees, which was a welcoming sight. Putting a few sugars in the drink, he took a sip and let his eyes go to the door as it opened with new patrons. He'd already made note of everyone in the cafe as was habit. As a Guard, Dominic couldn't help but see every little detail about the people around him all the time, just in case one of them turned out to be an enemy he'd have to deal with. Such was the life of protecting the Aspects. "We'll wait a bit here and then head around town to the local bars. I'm sure that idiot will show up somewhere."

-----------------------Later that evening........

As the two companions left the cafe after the sun fell, the cooler air was swirling around the city as the large buildings pushed the wind about. They had tried a few places, but no luck. It wasn't until one of the last bars on the strip did Dominic finally see the man, holed up in a booth in the corner of the establishment. Thankfully it was a busy night and they moved through the place easily without sending up the alarm.

Dominic slid into the booth beside him as if they were meant to be there, watching Sapphire sit across from them. "Hey, buddy." The man's face immediately fell and Dom could see he was thinking about causing a scene, but a quick look changed his mind. "I wouldn't." Taking one of the man's fries, he ate it and sighed with a smile. "Now, let's talk about why my brother is helping you idiots move illegal arms through Evermore. Please don't skip any details."

Sapphire smirked alittle when he told her that she won. A giggle escaped her lips as she looked at her friend. "Well thanks for that. Alot of people think that a little girl like me cant fight but being what I am, I am much tougher than people think." Sapphire said as she then thanked the waiter for the coffee as she put a few sugars in her coffee along with alittle bit of cream before stirring it. "Ok that sounds like a plan." She said as she took a sip of her coffee. They waited for a while before leaving the cafe when the sun fell. Sapphire smiled as the cooler air was swirling around. The cold didnt bother her since she was a phoenix and was able to keep herself form. After trying a few places with no luck. Sapphire noticed that Dom spotted the man as she followed the Lycan.

Once Dom sat down next to the man, Sapphire slid in on the other side of them as she smirked alittle. Her blue eyes took in every facial moment that he did. When the man's face fell, Sapphire continued to watch him as she listened to Dom talk. Sapphire sat there and watching them along with listening about the details about Dom's brother.

As Dominic glared at the man who was looking between him and Sapphire, he could see the man visually slump into defeat. He sat up a little bit straighter and kept his eyes on the food in front of him before speaking. "Their a group of Therians, mostly Lycans, that have been moving arms across the country. Eric came along last year and quickly moved up the ranks and now he's the boss's right hand man. People don't really know too much about him except for..."

He went quiet and Dominic goaded him further. "Yea? Except for what?"

"The chain around his neck. The guys were fighting one day to blow off some steam while we waited for the trucks to come to move more of the guns and Eric was tussling with one of the others. At some point his necklace snapped and it was a locket that got smashed. There was a picture of a woman inside of it." He shifted in his seat slightly and looked over at Sapphire and Dominic as he started speaking again. "He just lost it. I mean, really fucking lost it. He started beating this guy bad. Took four or five guys to get him off."

Dominic couldn't help but smirk, sarcastically. "Sounds familiar... Seems to run in the family," he muttered, remembering his own past and what caused him to go to prison for some time.

The man looked over at him confused until Dominic nodded for him to continue. "Well, we all kind of figured it was someone who was special to him and it obviously didn't end well. No one was gonna be stupid enough to ask him though. Not after seeing him explode like that."

Karen was someone that came into Eric's life many years ago and seemed to have changed him around from the bad boy in his old town to trying his hand at being a decent human being. Their parents couldn't have been happier to see how he was developing into a good man and was helping around the farm more and more. The two had decided to run off together and the family hadn't heard much from them except for a couple of calls a week. Then after several months, the two disappeared. No one had heard from them and they hadn't come back for either of his parents' funerals. After years with no word, Dom stopped looking.

Dominic pulled out his phone and did a quick search under her name and soon it became clear what had driven his brother into solitude. He turned the screen around to show Sapphire and there was an article from a newspaper that read, 'Pregnant woman slain after police shoot out'. As he scanned the story, Dominic learned that Karen had been killed by a stray bullet from an officer's gun during a bank robbery gone bad in Chicago. He sighed heavily. She'd been pregnant. He was starting to understand his brother's grief at least. "Where are they doing the shipments?"

The man turned his gaze to his uneaten food and hesitated, but Dominic gave him another stern look. "They'll be at the docks tomorrow night. They're starting to use ships now along with trucks. I'm telling you man, there's too many of them. You're brother isn't going to listen to reason."

"I'll take my chances." Dominic stood up and nodded for him to get out. "Take my advice. Don't go back there. If I find out you warned them.."

"You won't. I can't do this shit anymore." He moved out of the booth and stood up. "You won't see my again."

"Good." He looked between Sapphire and Dominic one last time before putting some cash down to pay for the food and walked out of the bar. Dom slid back into the booth and looked over to the Phoenix. "Well, that was informative." He put his phone back into his leather jacket and remained silent for a moment, thinking about Karen and the baby. Eric had lost three people he cared about to car accidents. He couldn't help but wonder if Auerus hadn't found him when he did, if he would've ended up a lot like Eric. "We're going to need help. The cops are going to have to be our back up. There's way too many of them to take down with just us two, but I have to stop my brother first. Knowing him, he'll want to go out in a blaze of glory and have the cops shoot him. I can't let him die. I'll get to him first and then we call EPD." He sighed heavily. "We can head back to my place and get ready for tomorrow night."
