Humming to herself, she allowed her hazel hues glaze over the papers on the mahogany desk. There were a few books and files scattered around the desk too, making it quite messy for her, who’s a known perfectionist. She’s been going through the entire thing for two nights already, her mind never seemingly able to make up itself. Books on cardiothoracic surgery syllabus laid wide open for everyone who would come inside the room to see. She remember she stopped and bookmarked the page on esophageal surgeries and the other book on invasive treatment theories. It was just so like her to be studying things so deeply when she had nothing else to do. She recently got inducted as one of the transferred cardiothoracic surgeon from Milan. It was turning out well for her considering it was easier for her to keep an eye out for potential threats as a resident in Evermore General.
But the papers were nowhere near related to her medicinal and surgical field. It was information and literal biographies on the known Valkyr running around the globe. At least the ones that she could successfully track down. There were plenty of rogue ones living up to the bad side of their mythology and they’ve been handling it slowly but effectively. But even then, it wasn’t possible to eradicate every single troublemaker, even so when Celia herself found it hard to incarcerate them just like that despite them reserving a sentence over the matter. The Italian Valkyr understood just how pressured Gideon felt about such things and tried her best to ease the worries and woes regarding the rogue beasts. The recent file she went through had caught her eye: one Valkyr that has been in her head the whole night-- Yeonseok Lee. Now, what was so important and special about this Valkyr? Especially when there’s plenty of them residing in the eternal city.
Where to start with him? All she’s known was that the matter needed no more explanation. Celia kept an eye out for everyone, it’s her duty and hobby, honestly. But when it comes to the Korean Valkyr, it was no surprise that she held a certain soft spot for him, the same she had reserved for the Valkyrie himself. No one knew why, but like she stated before, most of what she does needed no explanation. It has been a little over 5 years but she still couldn’t forget that day. Closing her eyes briefly, she found herself reminiscing that tragic incident that embedded itself in the center of her cortex. A memory she couldn’t even forget even if she wanted to. What’s left for her to do now is to move on forward. But her heart wouldn’t allow her to rest just now, so she cleaned the mess on her table and grabbed her overcoat before exiting the room. That particular room inside the mansion had remained her workplace, no matter how comfortable it was to work from her own place near the borders of the city, there was something that kept her here.
Perhaps, it was the homey feeling and scent that unravelled the entire place. Yes, maybe that’s it. The feeling she’s always felt foreign towards even since birth. She had nothing else to resent her second life for her first, seeing as she didn’t exactly have anything else to hold on to. At least this life gives her a purpose, which was more than she could ever wish for. Dragging herself away to the front door, she wrapped the overcoat around her and released the bun that held her raven dark locks in one place. The Italian born woman liked to feel the cold breeze of the winter and autumn equally so she decided to take her time walking as a form of transportation to Yeonseok’s apartment. He had moved out a time ago to a place above his dance studio and she has yet to pay the place a visit. It was said before that she held a soft spot for the Valkyr so this wasn’t a rarity for her when it comes to him.
A couple of minutes later after trudging through the wintery streets, she arrived in front of the apartment. Staring at the place, she tucked both her hands inside the pockets and entered the elevator before pressing the said floor’s button. The moment the doors to the elevator opened, she made her way to the lot and knocked a few times against the door as she waited outside for the owner to come and open it. "You're as late as ever, Yeon. I swear that one thing hasn't changed." she huffed.

At her statement Yeon shook his head “Life is what you make of it” he corrected with a shrug, he didn’t like to say that life was particularly bad or good at any point because he felt like that invited the idea of being proved wrong, when you said it was the worst day and then something came along to make it worse for example. He did his best to make the most of the life he had, he was active, he made a decent amount of money, enough to afford to take trips and buy nice things, he occasionally helped with charity events, he’d learned a little cooking, he definitely never found himself lacking in things to do, that was for sure.
“I think they’d probably annoy me sooner rather than later” he commented with a wrinkled nose, he was good at being positive for himself but to have someone constantly telling you to be happy when you didn’t feel happy sounded like an actual nightmare. “Besides, you know I’m always cheering for you” he gave her a genuine smile, there were a few people who he really cared to see the success of and Celia was definitely one of them, he wanted her to find happiness in whatever degree she sought it, she deserved it after all the things she had been through.
“You and me both” he stated with a laugh, all the traveling he did wasn’t the same as taking a real break, he hadn’t taken a proper week-long break from work in probably 4 years, every time he did manage to get away for the weekend he’d find some way to get dragged into work one way or another “I keep trying to take one and ending up working anyway though” he gave a roll of his eyes, he had no one to blame but himself for that, he was a workaholic, barely anyone could get him to put it down, it was like an addiction. The idea of getting away and just doing something dumb like wandering around Disneyland with ice cream and not a care in the world was very tempting to him. When she agreed to the idea he had to admit he was pleasantly surprised and a smile appeared on his lips, perhaps his joke was actually worth some thought, the trip might actually be good for both on them “No” he responded in regards to the Mickey ears “I will definitely own wearing the Mickey Ears” he chuckled softly, he didn’t have shame, he would wear those ears proudly.
Yeon couldn’t recall a time where he had asked for something and had been told no outright, there had been times he’d had to negotiate or bargain but in the end people found it very hard to say no to him, perhaps that was his skill in business or perhaps he just managed to get under people’s skin. The valkyr had to wonder how he might react if someone refused him something he wanted, he’d never been in the situation so he had no idea but he supposed it would probably only make him want whatever it is more “Ironic that we can be immortal and yet still feel impatient about anything” he teased with a laugh, he knew the feeling though, when he got his mind on something he usually wouldn’t stop until that particular thing was resolved, which could lead to some really interesting situations for him, like that one time he showed up at an art gallery in the middle of the night.
Her advice was appreciated, he tried his best to keep his mind off the big questions in life because with immortality came a certain level of wondering about existential things and he could probably get himself lost in them constantly if he leant too much time to it, that was why he always focused on the now, it was tomorrow’s schedule or even a trip next month but it was never planning a year in advance or talking about what his ‘future’ might be, live in the now mentality was what kept him sane “Humans are always talking about their goals to get married and grow old with three kids” he chuckled softly “Being immortal makes things so much more complicated than that” not that the idea of being married appealed to him whatsoever, tying himself to one person for the rest of his existence sounded like actual hell “Don’t get me wrong though, that isn’t the life I would have wanted, human or not” he added with a laugh, he couldn’t even imagine himself wanting to get married, it was such a strange concept to him.
Yeon would definitely describe Cecilia as the person he was closest to, there wasn’t really a definition for their friendship, it didn’t have boundaries and expectations like with most, they could not see one another for months and pick back up like they did today like no time had passed at all. They were invested in one another’s lives but they also respected one another enough to know when to back down “I can relate to wanting to make a parent proud, even if he never knows it, it’s all for him” he shrugged softly, it wasn’t what he imagined for himself but it wasn’t the worst life he could have asked for either. “I think she'd be proud of you” he commented and nudged against her elbow gently “I am” he added with a sincere nod of his head, he could definitely see her running her own place like he did, he could give her business advice when she needed it, hell he’d be able to invest in it even, he believed in her, even when she didn’t.
The suggestions she gave offered him a little comfort, he hoped whoever they were, that they had done this because they thought he deserved a chance and not because they were bored or wanted to see how he would handle it alone, he wanted to assume the best in this mysterious person but the truth was that he didn’t know them and probably never would “Maybe that’s it” he commented wistfully, the same as he had moved on from the past life he’d tried to move past asking what it would be like to meet his maker, whoever they were they hadn’t just saved him randomly, it wasn’t as simple as just biting someone after all. Yeon had never turned someone himself but he studied up on the process of it all.
He nodded, she understood now why she felt the need to settle in Evermore, he wished he was that dedicated to the cause but there would always be that part of him that needed to put himself first and right now his interests were in NYC “You’re definitely gonna have to come and visit me in the big apple” he spoke softly before he did something a little out of character for him and reached forward to pull her into a hug and leaned his head against her shoulder for a few seconds “I miss you” he spoke softly before he pulled away.
“Lucky me” she snickered, placing both her hands over her chest as she feigned delight. But really, she is delighted to hear that from him. She knew it wasn't easy to get such words and emotions out of the valkyr, and she was glad she's one of those who would get the privilege in hearing as well as witnessing them firsthand. What really bothered her however, was how drastically this could change if he'd known the truth behind that night that the tragedy took place at. Would he ever look her the same way ever again? Would he even look at her to begin with? Celia wasn't sure what to make of this revelation and she's tried her best to keep her mouth sealed for 8 years, which wasn't even that long for her. But somehow, there's this annoying stinging sensation in her that awaited for the day to come where she could finally come clean and tell him what happened.
He deserved an explanation to why she left him, but knowing that it was more likely that he'd resent her, the Italian refrained herself even though it hurts hiding this from her own best friend and younger-brother-figure. She had to remind herself that not everyone is as forgiving and whilst Yeon is admittedly a good and kind soul, even he wouldn't accept this easily. Cecilia was playing with fire, and she knows it. Though she does intend to keep this up until a time comes where she deemed right. This was for the better. She just couldn't bear the thought of having him hate her and put him through the torture to go back to memory lane and reminisce that tragic day. He deserved better.
Being a workaholic didn't come off as a foreign concept to either one of them. It was the reason why neither one of them had time to talk to, much less speak to each other, for months long. They did have several on-calls but sometimes the timezones refrained them from having long conversations that she was sure would be much more appreciated if spoken in person. Celia would be busy tracking down a rogue whilst Yeon would be spending his night choreographing. But as busy as things got, they still had time for one another, despite how minimal it was. They didn't have expectations on each other, she resolved. They were them, and that was enough. It was one of the factors why Celia always found herself scurrying back so she could do what she's doing now–laying her tired body on the couch and having small talks with him. It used to be more frequent but even their schedule couldn't be blamed.
Chuckling in response to his bold statement on owning the Mickey Ears, she shook her head and scoffed lightly. “Don't turn it into a battle, Yeon. You don't want to wage a promise you can't keep for sure” she winked playfully before descending into her own spiral of laughter. She hasn't laughed this much in such a while, she forgot what it feels like. This is precisely what she meant when she regarded Yeon as her balance board, whenever it gets too much, he'd pull her back. “I don't know about anyone else, but I've always been so impatient since a child. Not the impulsive kind, but still the same. No idea how I survived being a healer though..especially with those patients complaining here and there” Unfortunately, she couldn't remember much of her past life, it was as if it was slowly melting away. Perhaps it was the side effect of being an immortal.
“I don't remember much, but I definitely remember I was a lot more patient than today though.. Do you think it's because of the air?” she jested, taking the humor that was possible. It was the only thing that clung on to her; her ability not to take things seriously, as tactless as that may be, or the fact that she could go full 180 and be the most serious person in the room. “I was a human once upon a time ago too, but I don't think I ever thought about marriage. Probably because I know no one wanted the trouble of marrying an illegitimate child. But at least they would get the riches though.. I'm glad I didn't have to worry about it. My uncle didn't think about it and sent me off to a medical institution instead” Honestly, she would've declined marriage and resort to nunnery if it comes down to it. “Most of healers back then were literal nuns. I mean, we were unmarried women because they think married ones wouldn't be able to divide the time needed especially with the wars ongoing, you always get called and deported”
She leaned against his touch and placed her hand over him. “I hope she is. And yours would too. Maybe you're not the businessman your father thought you would be, but you're a successful guy who actually owns one, so what's the difference really” she exclaimed, tapping against his back a few times rhythmically. “I am” it was only fair that she gives back the same amount of care he gave her. “I will, don't worry. I'll even buy a place there just for you” she assured and smiled against the embrace. “I miss you too, Yeon. Thanks for making me feel like the world isn't entirely against me” she leaned forward to place a chaste kiss on his cheek, much like one a sister would give to annoy their little brother. Really, she was glad how their platonic relationship bloomed out to be.
