Wyatt sat in front of his desktop computer at his small, second floor studio in the downtown section of the city with an optimistic smile. Work had been slow over the last few months, but as the weather was finally changing, so were the job offers. It was early morning when he'd headed into his studio with the hopes of finding some inspiration. His fingers wrapped around mug as he took a long sip of the hot coffee inside, making a small grimace. Despite having his own Keurig at his office, the diviner somehow managed to screw up the flavor.
His eyes fell back on the promising email from one of his contacts in South America. The magazine editor wanted to take some photos of his models in a real tropical setting instead of a set which was music to his ears. The best part of being a photographer was traveling. The only problem he was having was the need for an assistant. As much as he didn't want one, ever, he knew he was going to need one when he traveled for some of the bigger shoots.
He groaned internally and looked down at his watch. In precisely ten minutes Wyatt had an interview with one of the candidates that had applied for the position. He'd put the ad out a couple of days ago and the few people that did come for the interview were all true amateurs. Wyatt could tell they would never be able to keep up with him on his travels nor get along with his somewhat demanding attitude when it came to his business. If he could do everything himself he would, but it was just impossible with the equipment and time constraints. Speaking of, he needed to find someone asap because they would be leaving by nightfall. No pressure.
Green hues flicking to the large bay window behind him, Wyatt turned his chair around to glance out at the busy street below him. People were moving about as they made their way to work, completely unaware of anything else but the mindless paths they were on. He really appreciated working on his own time when he saw how people could look like cattle. He took another drink of his coffee and nearly spit it out again, until a young woman caught his eye who was heading for the building. It appeared his interview had arrived. His finger slid across the table and pushed the button to let her in, keeping his eye on her the whole time from above and trying to assess if this would even be worth his time. "Maybe she can at least make coffee..."

Nervous didn’t even begin to describe how Ridley Ann Sommers felt that morning, everything in her life had gone from going smoothly to upside down in the blink of an eye. She had arrived in Evermore almost one year ago roughly... 11 months to be exact, with a girlfriend. Now Ridley and her girlfriend had decided to call it off, they were still the most amazing of friends which Ridley was thankful for. They thought they were better off this way, though it didn’t make going home to an empty house any easier. So what better way to fill her time than with applying for a new job? “Travel and a camera! Heck yes sign me up!” those were her exact words when she found the ad.
Ridley had barely slept a wink the night before choosing to stay awake and go over her portfolio, to make sure everything was perfect and the way she wanted it to bed. Every time she would start to fall asleep she had woken up again to try and alter and fix something. This is what Ridley often did, it was a quirk she had as well as a medical condition she had, some thought it strange and odd, but Aster and Avalon thought it was a cute trait that Ridley had. She always wanted things to be perfect, her nerves had been so overwhelming and worrying about her interview.
Now here she was standing outside of the building her bag toted over her right shoulder her portfolio inside her camera bag hung over her shoulder as well. Though that bag was empty as she was holding her camera in her hands taking photos of the many people around her, Ridley loved to people watch and imagine a life for each person. She was unaware that her would be boss was watching from the window, she continued to snap off pictures. Glancing down at her watch “Oh shoot, I need to get inside.” If there was one thing that could be said about Ridley she was never late for anything.
Hitting the Intercom she stated her name and was let in, making her way up to the room where her interviewer awaited. “Hi, I am Ridley Sommers” She held out her right hand giving him a firm handshake, her watermelon Tourmaline rings glinting in the sunlight, as well as her parent's coven tattoo, could be seen on her right wrist. Placing her camera delicately on his desk she opened her bag to produce the portfolio. “I thought it would be good to bring you some of my work.” She smiled brightly handing the book over to him. Ridley was a bit unusual her interest were not set, she took photos of everything anything that caught her eye.
Trying her best not to give off the impression that she was beyond nervous, Ridley had learned long ago how to hide her true emotions. Taking a seat in the one across from him “Thank-you for agreeing to meet with me on such short notice Mr. Brookes” Flashing him another smile as she picked up her camera to tuck it back into its home the green and pink case.
Wyatt sat in the chair at his desk with a sigh, hearing the woman climbing the steps. As the door opened, he flashed a fake smile that he'd had practiced over his many, many years to her in greeting. He really did hate interviews. The diviner stood while she approached and he extended his hand to hers to return the handshake she offered. "Pleasure to meet you, Miss Sommers, please have a seat," he replied, motioning for her to sit in the chair across from him at his desk. He hadn't been sure if she was a supernatural or not yet, but the clear tattoo that lay on her skin indicated to him that she was, in fact a diviner as well. Relieving.
His eyes glanced over to the camera she placed on the desk and he internally gave a nod to her choice in selection. It was a beautiful camera and he wondered if she took pictures that utilized its full potential. Wyatt reached across and took the portfolio from her and braced himself for the disappointment he was undoubtedly going to feel like the ones before her. At this point, he wasn't expecting to be impressed and had already mentally began to prepare himself for going on this trip alone. It would be hard, but it wasn't something he hadn't done before.
As Wyatt opened her work, the features of his face scrunched up in confusion. These were actually good. In fact, they were very good. The way she used light to capture ordinary items in the world was really well done and it was refreshing to see someone else capturing their surroundings in a different point of view. The diviner was certain the look on his face was probably giving her bad signals, so he quickly nodded in response to her being thankful for the interview. "These are beautifully done, Miss Sommers. Have you been doing this long?" He didn't want to ask her age, seeing as that was somewhat of a cliche normally and in the supernatural world, but he was curious of her experience. Maybe he had found someone that could possibly be able to keep up with the craziness of his lifestyle when it came to his work. "I should give you a heads up. When I said fieldwork in the ad, I meant flying overseas as well as domestic work. I'm a pilot and I get jobs that require a great deal of traveling, sometimes to places that are in rough terrain and not so great conditions. I'm not sure if that is something your speed, but I can tell you it is always an incredible experience."
She sat back in her seat as he looked over her work, at first his face barely changing at all while he glanced over the pages and pages. She bit down on her bottom lip waiting for some kind of a sign that he liked her work, finally he nodded and gave her a compliment. She let out a small breath she had been holding. “Thank you, My father gave me a camera when I was young. I put it down to get into fashion design for a while, but I once again came back to photography it has a way of just calling out to me. I couldn’t even form the words to describe if I knew every word from every language.” She responded.
Sitting forward in her seat as he continued to speak about the nature of the ad, nodding her head “I enjoy traveling, I’ve been many places. She looked down at her jeans which were worn and slightly faded in areas as well as her hiking boots. Ridley only wore heels when going to a special function more often than not she was wearing a running shoe or some time of boot. “I am sure I can keep up with you Mister Brooks.” She offered a smile. His last name sounded so familiar she tried to think back to how she knew it.
Closing her eyes for a moment she could almost picture her father’s old ledger of Diviner family names, she clapped her hands together in excitement. Ridley had a horrible memory so she was often very happy when she could recall something. “You wouldn’t be related to the Brookes family from England would you?” She asked not wanting to outwardly ask ‘Hey are you the Brookes family of Diviners?’ After all Evermore city was crawling with Humans and she did not want to make that mistake.
Placing her bag beside her she looked at him slightly eager to know if she was correct if he was a fellow Diviner that would make working with him if she got the job that much better. Ridley felt comfortable around other Diviner’s. Most people she was really close with came from some sort of a Diviner connection, keeping a smile plastered to her lips as she looked around his office. “Do you travel a lot?” She asked out of curiosity.
Wyatt kept his eyes running over her work until his gaze found hers again when she inquired about his last name. "Well, yes, actually. It's an old family name, but it traces back to England. The farthest I've gotten back to is around the middle ages." Placing the portfolio back on the desk, he slightly nodded towards her wrist before folding his arms and leaning back in his chair. "I noticed the tattoo. I recognize the coven, actually. My photography work goes deeper than just capturing models for magazines and other fashion related mediums. I originally wanted to travel, so the natural thing to do seemed to be getting in the business of using my photography skills for that. I was fairly renowned for a while for the photos I had taken regarding wildlife in Africa and South America. The more I traveled, the more I was interested in exploring lost civilizations. That was how I started getting into archaeophotography; capturing pictures of ruins and artifacts. After I fell in love with doing that, I began researching more about our own kind. Where fae and necromancers of old lived and practiced. That is how I recognized your tattoo," he explained, coming in full circle to her original question.
He stood up and walked around to the front of the desk and looked at her for a quiet moment, leaning back to sit against it. He gave a small sigh in his finality of the decision he was about to make and hoped she might take up his offer. With a small smile, he continued on. "I'm actually headed to South America. Tonight. I'm willing to offer you the position and we'll see how well you take to the role. There's a popular magazine I'm doing a swimsuit issue for in Brazil and I could use the assistance. Afterwards, I planned on staying when that part of the business was over to explore some of the Amazon there. My research is telling me I might find some interesting history, but..." he paused for a moment and spoke more seriously. "It can be rough out in that kind of environment. We do have a bit of a cheat sheet being diviners, but still, it's not a five star hotel out there. I don't want to bring you into something you won't feel comfortable in."
The fae reached behind him and took one of the many files he had stacked on his desk. He handed the research over to her so she could flip through the different pages and pictures he'd gathered that would bring them to the specified location of the lost coven. "Since the comet fell, many diviners, both light and dark, are interested in learning more magic. Especially now that we are capable of doing both. I've been kind of heading that part of the faction here in Evermore, hoping to make our kind even stronger as well as bring us together as many of the times there has been a rift between the light and dark diviners." Wyatt let her look over his work for a few silent moments before standing up and taking one of the airline tickets from the desk. "So, Miss Sommers, what do you say? Think you would like to try and work for me?"
She grinned as he confirmed he was in fact of the Diviner Faction, feeling quite proud of herself for having remembered something which was rare for her. “The middle ages! That is amazing, I’ve never tried to trace my family name… though it best I don’t go looking.” Given what her family was like she was afraid to learn too much more about her own history if her entire family was much like her father and persecuted people like her brother she wasn’t sure she wanted to know. She would hate to be apart of a bloodline like that, in all truth she really hoped that there were more like her in the past. Keeping that tidbit of information to herself she tilted her head off to the side to listen to his story, Idly rubbing her thumb over the tattoo on her opposite wrist.
“I know a thing or two about fashion, and travel myself, Though learning about the old ways I have never really given it much thought. I am sure it would be quite an eye opener for me though.” Ridley smiled maybe with Wyatt’s help she could prove that her brother and others like him aren’t as bad as her coven believes them to be. Her eyes met Wyatt’s again as he said he was leaving tonight…. Wow, that was fast. She thought over what he was saying accepting the folder. Sitting back in the chair to get comfortable her eyes flicking over the photos and reading the research and notes he had scrawled over the pages.
“Do I look like a girlie girl to you Mister Brookes?” She raised an eyebrow and went back to the pages in her hands her brain absorbing as much as she possibly could. Though if she agreed to go with him she would have plenty of time to read the material he offered on the way over. “I know all too well the rift between the two sides Mr. Brookes. The rift has affected me on a personal level, so if you can help me understand why that is, and how we can fix the rift between the sides, as well as offer me a job doing what I love.” She paused and closed the folder resting it on her lap for a moment before picking it up and standing. “Then yes you can count me in.” She offered her hand to him to shake his hand in an agreement.
“I can head back home and pack right now, and meet you there is there anything you would like me to get and bring along? I have some of my families items in storage if that helps.” She offered that little bit of information, in all honesty, she wasn’t really sure what it was she had in storage just a few boxes of items that belonged to her father after his passing. Never really having the heart to sort through the boxes so in storage they sat collecting dust.
Wyatt tried to read the expression she held while looking over his research, wondering if this was far beyond what she thought the position would entail. He wouldn't be surprised. This extra hobby of his was beyond the realms of just innocent photography. Asking someone to tag along during his expeditions could be dangerous. Of course he could just put Ridley on a plane and send her home after the shoot, but having an extra pair or eyes would be invaluable.
When she asked if she looked like a girlie girl, Wyatt was taken a back for a moment and furrowed his eyebrows. Before he could stammer out his hurried response, she continued on how she had a personal stake in finding out more about the history of the worlds' covens and was accepting the position. As Ridley then extended her small hand, he took it in his own and returned the handshake as a small smile began to form on his face. This may prove to be a perfect pairing after all. He made a silent note in his head to ask her about that personal reason she had in wanting to learn more about their kinds' history once they got to know each other a little better.
Wyatt took the file from her and placed it on his desk before handing her the ticket. "Just keep in mind all the different places we will be going. We'll be heading in a day before the shoot actually begins, so we can walk around the city and have the whole day to ourselves after we get some sleep since it will be nearly 4am when we get there. Work begins the next morning on one of the popular beaches there and after that's all said and done, the real fun begins and we will be there for a couple more days to do the proper exploring I'm looking forward to in the Amazon. Make sure to bring all the proper clothes needed, but we can always get you anything you might be missing once we're there. I have tools and equipment for when we head out into the rainforest where we will stay in one of the jungle lodges, but it's no 5 star hotel." He walked around and began rifling through all the papers, documents, and maps he had on the large wrap around desk, trying to gather up all the things he needed to bring with him. Hopefully she was more organized than he was and could make sense of all his craziness when it came to this personal obesession of his.
Stuffing the materials in his seriously worn out tactical, canvas backpack that he took everywhere with him when he traveled, Wyatt pulled the keys to the office from his pants pocket and lead them out. He opened the door for her and locked everything up after they were both out and heading downstairs to the bustling streets of Evermore below. "So, head home, get packed and I'll meet you at the airport around 4pm." Wyatt offered his hand to hers again. "Glad to have you on board, Miss Sommers."
Ridley nodded trying to keep track of all the times he was rhyming off, she reached into her bag and pulled out an old leather notebook and she quickly jotted down the things he was saying. Nodding her head as he spoke so he knew she was still listening even though her eyes were shifting from him to the paper. As he walked around to gather the papers and things up and put them into his bag, she tried her best to hold in a chuckle he was severely disorganized and she wanted to clean up the desk. At the moment there were much more pressing matters such as getting packed and ready for this little adventure. Nodding her head once more she followed after him the notebook still in hand, making sure she had all her stuff with her as she followed him out the door allowing him to lock up. “4 PM Airport, got it. See you soon” She closed the notebook and hugged it to her chest as she held out her hand to shake his again.
She started to walk in the opposite direction but stopped “Ridley” She called out after him. “Miss Sommers is my mother.” She laughed and walked backwards a few steps before turning and walking off once more, taking up her camera to snap a few photos as she walked along. Before long she hailed a cab to get back home quickly, unlocking the door she hurried into her bedroom placing her camera and bags onto her bed. Ridley finally let out an excited squeal in the privacy of her apartment, twirling around in a circle she clapped her hands happily. “Alright Rids back on track let’s get packing. Amazon, forest, and beach, maybe some caves…. Alright, I can do this.”
Opening her closet Ridley riffled through her things pulling out her faded and well-used suitcase and she began to stuff things into it. Making sure to add journals, pens, a few toiletries and extra memory cards for her camera. Letting out a sigh she walked over to her bedside table and pulled the photo of her parents out of the frame and tucked it into the elastic band on the inside of her journal cover. There was a line on the photo to show that the photo lived in the journal more than the picture frame. Once she was satisfied she had enough stuff packed she grabbed an over the shoulder bag and put a few more items into her bag. Looking at the time she decided she should try and eat something before heading off to the airport.
A few hours had passed since she had met Wyatt Brookes a handsome man who seemed to be full of mystery, she was excited to see where this new found partnership would lead. She may actually find out why her family mistreated dark Diviners so much, and somehow teach the family how to avoid repeating history. She may even find a way to stop Rikard from being able to succeed in killing her family before none of them were left. In a way the Sommers were almost Royalty of the New Zealand Diviners, she didn’t want to think about what would happen to the coven if Rikard succeeded in wiping out her entire family line.
Heading out she locked the door to her apartment and went downstairs to hail a cab “Airport please” She would be about 30 minutes early but it was better to be early than to be late paying for the cab she gathered the things she headed inside to try and spot Wyatt she wasn’t sure if he would even be there yet or not.
A smile spread over his face as she turned around to correct him and he nodded back to the fellow diviner. "Ridley, it is then." He watched her walk down the street to hail a cab before heading across the block to his car to head back home and prepare for the trip overseas. As always he would think he was ready and had everything he needed, when in reality he'd always forgotten something important. Turning the engine over, he listened to the American muscle growl lowly and put the car in drive while silently going over the list of items he had to remember to pack.
Thirty minutes later he was back at his house and surrounded by destruction. To the outside person it would look like a bomb went off as Wyatt walked over the clothing that littered the floor. As with every other trip in his life that required more than just his backpack, he was in complete disarray despite the amount of time that he had had to get ready when he left his studio. "Where the hell did I leave that film?!" he said aloud to himself, raking his hands through his hair. An alarm suddenly began to blare from his wrist and he looked down at his watch to see it was nearly 3:30pm. "Shit." His green hues scanned the disaster his house had become one last time before groaning in frustration and giving up on the hopes of finding the film he really wanted to bring with him. "I really need to put a locator spell on everything..." Zipping his luggage, he hurriedly threw all his bags in his car and raced to the airport.
As always, Wyatt got to the airport with only minutes to check in their luggage, get through security, and run to the gate. He looked back to Ridley to apologize as they rushed through the terminal. "I'm really sorry about this." No sooner had the words left his mouth when an announcement rang out overhead, calling their names for one last chance to make the flight. He glanced to the overhead sign above and continued running towards the correct gate. It was without a doubt the last one in the long hallway that didn't seem to end.
It was then an idea came to him. One of the motorized carts that transported the elderly and handicapped began driving by them, void of any passengers. Wyatt quickly grabbed Ridley's hand and tugged her along even faster. He jumped into the moving vehicle, pulling her in alongside him. "Hey, man! You can't do that!" The young airport employee looked behind him with annoyance as he started to slow down from his newly acquired riders.
Wyatt reached into his back pocket and pulled his wallet out to draw a $20 bill from inside. He handed the money over to the annoyed teen and nodded down the terminal without much air left in his lungs. "Gate 26... if you please. We're about to miss.. our flight."
The employee looked at him and then to the cash before quickly snatching it from his hand. "Right away, sir."
Wyatt nodded his head and looked over to Ridley with a smirk. "So.. enjoying your first day?" he asked rhetorically with sarcasm as the cart picked up speed to race towards their flight.
The attendant at the gate began closing the door to the jetway just as they pulled to a halting stop. "Waitwaitwait! We're here!" He jumped from their impromptu ride and helped Ridley down before running to the woman who gave a slight chuckle at their arrival. After scanning both of their tickets, Wyatt gave out an exhausted breath as they walked through the passenger tunnel and hearing the door behind them close.
The aircraft was full as his eyes glanced to the rest of the plane, but they were immediately seated towards the front as the magazine he was shooting for provided them with first class tickets. Wyatt offered to place Ridley's carry-on in the overhead bin as he did his own before motioning for her to take the window seat. He slid in next to her and laughed lightly. "Honestly, this is my normality when it comes to traveling. Maybe with an assistant you can get me more organized finally, though I wonder if that is even remotely possible with how all over the place I can be sometimes. As particular as I am when it comes to certain things, others tend to just cause me chaos." The stewardess came by to check that they were properly fastened into their seatbelts before taking off. "Ready for an adventure?"
“It happens, we could always try and catch the next flight,” She said looking at the time realizing they would likely miss the flight at this point. Hearing their names she gave a slight frown just as Wyatt grabbed her hand and dragged her along, Ridley held onto her bags as she ran in step with him before being tugged up onto the cart alongside her now boss. “If this is the start of our adventure I am quite curious to see what the middle and end might look like” She joked to his rhetorical question.
Ridley chuckled as they arrived nearly fumbling off of the ride but Wyatt managed to get down and help her out before she fell. Quickly following after him, when the door closed behind them Ridley felt the air escape her lungs in a relaxed manner. Apologizing to a fellow passenger that she accidentally stepped on their foot on the way through. Handing her bags to Wyatt she wasted no time in sitting down next to the window to look outside. This was not her first time on an airplane, in fact, Ridley loved watching a plane take off, most times she felt like a young child with how easily little things amused her, that was just how she was.
“You are often late or barely on time for your very own flight?” She asked looking away from the window to the man sitting next to her with a smirk “Here I thought I could be forgetful… I don’t even forget my flights” She teased. “I am very organized… just forgetful.” She knew it was an odd combination but it was just how she was and likely always would be. Ridley’s Office was spic and span not a thing out of place as was her bedroom, she needed to start using her cellphone calendar more. Remembering the many fights she got into with Aster over not remembering a date or appointment she was supposed to attend.
Beaming up at the stewardess as she checked their seatbelts Ridley turned to Wyatt “I am always ready for an adventure” She smirked. “Do you have those files by any chance I would really like to read in further detail about all the research you have done so far. After take-off of course.” Turning her eyes back to the window Ridley hated to miss the plane actually taking off of the ground. It was oddly a freeing sensation of being up in the sky flying, most found planes to be scary but Ridley felt free and like she herself had wings when she watched a takeoff.
After they were up and the seatbelt signs had come off she turned to Wyatt once more “Sorry what was I saying?” She asked nearly forgetting already “Oh right the research.” She said again.
“What all have you learned?” She asked shifting in her seat to give him her undivided attention wanting to make sure she gathered all the information she needed. After all learning of their kind was beyond interesting, how did they have these powers, what exactly were they all truly capable of? Who was the first Diviner? Were there other types of magic they could do that they were not aware of? So many questions swam in her complex little mind.
As the rumbling of the plane took off, Wyatt watched through the window along with his traveling partner as the ground became smaller and smaller and soon they were left with just clear blue sky and fluffy white clouds to look upon. He quickly unbuckled his seatbelt and pressed the button on the armrest to lower the chair back a bit more and get more comfortable. The flight was rather lengthy and being a passenger on a plane was certainly a different experience when you were used to being the pilot.
When she turned back to him with questions of his research, he leaned forward to open his backpack that was pushed under the seat in front of him. Wyatt pulled the weathered canvas bag out and unhooked the top latch to rummage around for the documents he thought might be the most interesting, but also possibly the most legible. When the thoughts and information he was collecting was passing from its source through to his brain, his hand could only move so fast as the ideas spilled out on the page. Pulling a heavy leather journal out, Wyatt passed the prized possession to her.
The pages inside were worn and some torn; splattered with a few coffee stains as the journal went with him everywhere. He would never leave the house without it and it was attached to him like another extension of his body. It was the one thing he held dearest too him and next would have to be what housed it most of the time when it wasn't between his hands; his backpack.
Wyatt reached out and pulled open the cover to run his fingers over some of his most important finds among the couple hundred pages. His normal green hues getting a bit brighter as he spoke about one of his favorite subjects. "It's honestly incredible how old magic is, but really how surprising is it once you think about it? I've managed to trace the use of magic to so many different tribes around the world, despite losing a lot of diviner history due to wars from our kind and others. Don't even get me started on the Crusades." The stewardess came by to ask for their orders and he was quick to ask for a whiskey and Coke before continuing on. "Before the comet hit in Evermore, fae and necromancers were bound to only certain magic depending on their preferred choice of light and dark, but I've seen instances where other covens were able to do both hundreds and hundreds of years ago. So really that's been my new obsession over the last years. I want to find out more about these tribes and of our history. Imagine the magic that we may be capable of?"
The stewardess soon returned with their drinks and he spun the stirrer inside to even out the liquor inside before taking a sip. "A few weeks ago I was asked to come on this shoot and I couldn't resist heading into the Amazon where some of the local legends show lost cultures of fae and necromancers. There are a few places on the map I have which show possible places to look, so I'm hoping we get lucky." After a moment's pause, he settled back more into the seat and looked over to her with a half smile. "Enough of my crazy, what brought you into photography? I know you said your father gave you a camera when you were younger. What's your favorite subject to shoot? I'd like to hear more about the new assistant that I just suckered into working for me."
As her new boss handed the journal to her the Fae watched his face as he flipped to some of the more relevant pages. She couldn’t help but notice how he seemed to light up as he spoke about the contents of the pages, looking down at the very worn pages. She smirked seeing the stains and crinkled pages it looked to be a very well worn in book a sacred book at that. “Yes, Magic is old though I think I am most curious about why the battle between the Light and the Necro’s” When the stewardess arrived she asked for lemon water and turned her attention back to Wyatt.
“Wait able to do both? BEFORE the comet?” Ridley’s jaw nearly dropped to the ground was that even possible? The news both excited and scared her if Rikard ever learned of the things he would be capable she was terrified of what might happen next. Lucky for her she had seen no signs of the man in Evermore and since Malachi had told her the story Ridley had been keeping an eye out for just such a man and his goons. After all, that was the best thing to do when a man was threatening to kill your entire family.
Accepting her drink form the stewardess she picked the lemon off the side and squeezed it into the water before dropping the wedge into the glass pushing it down with the straw, spinning it around while she turned her attention back to the green-eyed male. Looking back to the book that she had to lay down on her lap when she had given him her attention, her eyes poured over the maps trying her best to memorize the locations. Ridley knew it was likely a futile thing to do since she was very likely to forget it all, some information she was likely to retain but others not so much.
“I don’t think it’s crazy at all, interesting more like it,” Ridley assured him running her fingers over the pages as she read his scrawled writing on the various margins of the pages. She could tell he was in a rush when writing some of the passages and others he had a little more time to sit and write them out. She could hear his questions he was asking her but for a moment she was zoned into the maps, the one area on the map had captured her attention and she could not explain why. Idly tapping the area on the map she turned to him once more, blushing when she realized he was still waiting for a response.
“Oh sorry..” She visibly shook herself. “Yes my father gave me my first camera and I was younger so I took photos of EVERYTHING, from Animals, rocks, Nature, people, objects in my house.” She laughed “Just anything I thought beautiful.” She smiled fondly remembering a younger version of herself running around taking photos and her mother scolding her for bringing the camera to the table at mealtimes. “I guess I never really did settle on one set subject to this day I just take photos of anything and everything that sparks my eye.” shrugging her shoulders.
“I know most photographers have a set skill... I just never limited myself.” Ridley’s photos were as free-spirited as the photographer herself was. Ridley’s moods changed as quickly as the wind so her photos represented just that. “I have travelled all over New Zeland my home, and I have been to New York, Europe” She named a few places. As she listed the places her heart skipped a few beats she had visited most of the places were her last partner Aster the girl she had loved so fiercely until Aster couldn’t take Ridley’s reckless abandon for her own safety. They had remained very close it was just never the same after they ended, at times it still broke Ridley’s heart to think that she still had to wake up all alone.
Wyatt furrowed his brow slightly as he watched her seemingly being very interested in some of the maps that were folded into his journal, but remained quiet as he listened to her explain the love of photography that had been with her since she was a child. They were much the same in that aspect. He remembered his first camera that was gifted to him by his parents and ever since that moment, he was rarely seen without one on his person. He was thankful his parents let him flourish in his creativity as a child. They were the best support system a child could ask for.
A smirk formed at the corner of his mouth as she continued on. Ridley was bubbly and apparently thirsty for travel. That was something he could appreciate and more and more he believed she might be a permanent fit to the position of assistant that he so desperately needed to fill, despite wishing he could do it all on his own. It was hard for Wyatt to trust someone else to do the job when he knew it would only get done the right way if he did it all himself. However, there just weren't enough hours in the day for that kind of thinking and they were stepping into the busiest season for the photography business. Needing someone by his side was just inevitable now that he was able to step back into the game after his long hiatus from the photography world. Being a supernatural was always a challenge when you became popular for whatever reason and people started asking too many questions about why someone still appeared to be the same age after so many years. Now that he was in Evermore, it gave him more leeway to do what he loved.
The two continued on with small chit chat as the flight went along smoothly. Wyatt dozed off for some of the long hours their trip entailed, thankful that the magazine had paid for the comfy first class seats they were currently in and watching the sun set in the fiery sky. That was something he would never tire of; watching day turn into night from the advantage point of being in the pilot's seat as he flew through the clouds. It was the sound of the pilot's voice overhead that woke him up from the dreamless sleep. His eyes moved to the window and it was pitch black out. A quick look at this watch told him it was 3am and they were landing a little early into Brazil.
After collecting their luggage, Wyatt hailed a cab from one of the many that lingered along the airport arrival gates to head to their hotel for the next couple of days in Manaus. Arriving at their destination, he wasn't surprised to see that it was far too extravagant for his liking, but he didn't exactly have the means to tell them how to plan their trip. "Wow." Wyatt preferred simple accommodations, not the luxury of this place that felt like if you touched anything it would break. It certainly would be a stark contrast from their abode in the rainforest. "I seriously feel under dressed." Not that there were people milling about in the lobby. It was late, after all. His eyes scanned about the large hotel with its glass, vaulted ceiling that looked up to the night sky, until finally resting on the front desk to check them in.
He watched as the concierge staff quickly moved to take their luggage in a somewhat frenzy while leading them to the elevator to guide them to their rooms. The two men, one much older and another who seemed to be in his teens were dressed in better clothes than what he would normally wear to most fancy events he attended. "Married?"
"Excuse me?" Wyatt looked to the older one confused for a moment as the man's eyes moved from him to Ridley. "Oh.. oh, no. We work together."
The elder took the two electronic keycards from the younger staff member and nodded. "Ah, I see. Adjoining rooms. Right this way please." The sound of the elevator bell went off as they came onto their floor. The older man opened the door for him with a tap of the card against the panel as the younger one did the same for Ridley's room which was next door. The room was incredibly ornate and it almost felt like he was in Europe with how it was decorated. Nearly everything was gold and he couldn't help but raise an eyebrow. People actually enjoyed going to places like this? He turned on his heel and saw the man waiting at the door expectantly.
"Oh, right." Wyatt moved back towards him across the marble floor, pulling some money from his pocket for both of the staff. "Thank you, very much." The door finally closed and he heard the one belonging to Ridley close as well. Wyatt knocked on the adjoining door that led to her room before opening it as it was left unlock from the last tenants. His gaze moved about the nearly identical room which was just as ridiculous as his. "Crazy right?" he said with a slight smirk to her, leaning on the doorframe. "Don't hesitate to ask if you need anything. The expenses are pretty much covered. There's a great breakfast place in town we can eat at before we have the day to ourselves if you want to walk around the downtown area and see the sights. The city is really beautiful." He let out a soft yawn and rubbed his face sleepily. "Well, I'm going to pass out on this enormous bed before I do so right here on the floor between both our rooms, so goodnight. Sleep well, Ridley."
