The sound of rain bouncing off metal filled the ringing ears of Lee Seung-Woo. Disoriented, the 32 year old businessman slipped out the window of the overturned car, his pregnant wife in the passenger seat. Seung-Woo and his wife Ji-yoo were on their way to the hospital, when another vehicle slammed into them head-on. Making his way to the other side of the car, he saw other vehicles stopping. “Call 911” he yelled out as he pulled open the door of the passenger side. Ji-Yoo’s luck was much worse than her husband’s. A piece of glass had lodged itself in her stomach, and immediately, Seung-Woo was worried about their unborn child. By the time that the ambulance arrived, Ji-Yoo had fallen unconscious, but was now free of the overturned car. Seung-Woo held the hand of his unconscious wife all the way to the hospital, not wanting the paramedics to check him out until she was taken care of.
Upon arrival at the hospital, Ji-Yoo was rushed to the critical care unit, and Seung-Woo was taken to a separate room to have his injuries taken care of. After his injuries were treated he went to the waiting room where he waited impatiently for answers about his wife and unborn child. An hour later the doctor approached him. He informed Seung-Woo that the glass had caused some major damage, and it was a coin toss whether she would make it through this alive. He also told him that their child was miraculously still alive, and they could get the baby out with a c-section. However he had to make the choice, because performing the procedure on his wife in the condition she was in, would most likely claim her life. His heart nearly shattered at the news, and he knew what he had to do. Ji-Yoo would never forgive him if he chose to save her at the cost of their child’s life, and he told them to go ahead with the procedure.
With the condition his wife was in, the doctors refused to let him in the room with his wife. Another hour passed by and the doctor approached him once more. The doctor told him that he had a healthy baby boy, and that his wife had passed away during the procedure. Seung-Woo collapsed to the floor in tears and a broken heart. The doctor told him that they’d keep the baby there for a few days to make sure everything was okay, and to give him time to process everything before taking the baby home. That night, Seung-Woo was unable to sleep, and he found himself looking through old photos of himself and Ji-Yoo together. He had made the choice to sacrifice his wife’s life for their child, and now he was unsure if he would even be able to look at the child, let alone raise him.
Three days later, Seung-Woo returned to the hospital after the funeral service for his wife. The doctors agreed to keep the baby at the hospital until after the service. When the doctor placed the baby boy into his arms, Seung-Woo’s heart fluttered, and he knew then that he was going to raise the boy himself. He found it quite difficult being a single parent, and some nights he threw himself into the bottle while the baby slept. One night he found a video they had made the month before the accident. Seung-Woo and Ji-Yoo were painting the baby room, laughing, and talking about the future. Something about that video lit a fire within Seung-Woo, and he changed after that night. He got rid of all the alcohol in the house, he was determined to be his best when it came to their baby boy, and just as they decided to do in the video, they named him Seung-Min.
Seung-Min was often left with babysitters while growing up. Not because his father didn’t want to raise him, but because his father was an important businessman in Korea. Seung-Min didn’t mind though, for him, growing up was a new adventure. The times he did get to spend with his father, he was taught many things, a lot of which he didn’t understand; and he was also told fairytales. At least he believed they were fairytales. When Seung-Min reached the age of 5, his father fell in love with another woman; a Canadian woman who was about ten years younger than him. The more the two of them talked, the deeper in love his father fell, and it was nice to see his father happy once again. Three months later, Seung-min found himself on a plane headed for Canada.
Canada was a much different place than South Korea. For two months Seung-Min, now named Adam, didn’t leave the house or communicate with others. He couldn’t speak English yet, and he didn’t want to go out and communicate with people he wouldn’t understand. Samantha was more than happy to help him out with his language barrier, and together they worked hard to get him to learn English. Although it took him two months, he was grateful to Samantha for sticking with him through it all, and it brought them closer together. His father, now named Arthur, continued his career in business; and Samantha opened a movie theatre in the heart of Toronto, Ontario.
Thanks to Samantha, Adam was able to make friends when he began school, and everyday after school; he would meet Samantha at the movie theatre. It was in that theatre, that Adam’s love of movies was sparked. Samantha always had a seat saved for him in the front row, and sometimes they would even watch movies together while they waited for his father. Even though he was getting older, his father continued to tell him stories before bed. However, when they moved to Canada, it seemed as though the way he told the stories changed to make them seem more like fairytales. Adam wasn’t sure what had changed but he could tell something was different, the stories were somewhat realistics back in Korea, as if his father was right there in the moment.
When he reached the age of 11, Samantha gave him his first job at the theatre, and he enjoyed every moment of it. He wasn’t given a lot of responsibility, but enough to say that he worked at his first job, and he even got paid for his work. Arthur could see how much Adam and Samantha got along, and on October 15, 2008; Arthur surprised them both by coming to the theatre early from work. When he arrived, he got down on one knee and publicly asked her to be his wife. Of course she said yes, and everyone around them cheered and applauded them. They got married the following year, and Adam got to be his father’s best man at the ceremony. During their honeymoon, Adam was sent to live with his Uncle Bernard for a week. The night before his father and step-mother left, he told his father that he was too old for fairytales anymore.
A week after his father and step-mother left to go on their honeymoon, their plane crashed on its return flight, and both Arthur and Samantha died on impact. The next day, Adam’s Uncle received the call that they died in the plane crash. The young male was in shock for a full week after the news. His Uncle took custody of him, because he was the closest living relative of the family, and Bernard agreed without hesitation. After the shock had worn off, Adam returned to school, broken and distant. His friends wouldn’t let him push them away though, and although it was tough, they helped him get through it and open up again. With his father, and biological mother gone, Adam had no way to learn about his family history.
However, Adam’s family history would soon catch up with him, and it would change his life forever. On the night of his fifteenth birthday, a tribal tattoo appeared on the young male’s lower back as he slept, and he had no idea that it was there. Two days later while he was out with his friends, one of them noticed the tattoo on his lower back and said to him “Nice ink man”. Adam had no idea what they were talking about until he got home that evening. When he arrived home, he went to the upstairs bathroom and lifted the back of his shirt. When he saw the tattoo, a searing pain burned through his lower back, and a piercing scream bellowed from his mouth. Turning around, he gripped the sink and looked into the mirror, sweat rolling off him from his increased heart rate, and his eyes flickering from a deep blue and then back to their chocolate hue over and over again.
As the screaming continued, Adam’s uncle came running up to the bathroom. When he opened the bathroom door, he saw water floating all around the room, and he saw Adam’s eyes turning to a different color. His uncle was frightened, and backed away from the bathroom, only to trip in his own feet and fall down the stairs. Just as his uncle reached the bottom of the stairs, Adam passed out and the water landed on the floor around him. An hour later, the sound of a crying child woke him up. His baby cousin was crying out, but nobody was gone to check on her. Adam went to his cousin’s room and calmed her down before going to look for his uncle. All he could remember was the look of fear on his uncle’s face.
When he got to the stairs leading down to the first floor, Adam saw his uncle at the bottom of the stairs, not moving. Rushing down to the stairs, a horrified look on his face, he tried to get his uncle to wake up. When he realized he wasn’t breathing, Adam rushed to the phone and called for an ambulance. However, it was already too late. The fall had broken his uncle’s neck, causing him to die before he even reached the bottom. After everything was done at the house, Adam and his cousin was brought to the police station, that was where he found out that himself and his cousin would be put into foster care. Adam knew then that he couldn’t have a repeat of what happened to his uncle. He asked an officer to hold his cousin so that he could use the bathroom, and then he slipped out into the night, and ran away. He didn’t want to leave his cousin behind, but he knew that he was nowhere near capable of caring for her. He had to find out what was happening to him, and learn to control whatever it was. If he couldn’t control it, then somebody else close to him may die.
For three years Adam remained secluded from the world, learning as much as he could about what he was and the powers he held within him. The more he thought about it, the more he remembered his father’s fairytales he told so often. How there was a special place called Evermore where special beings resided. He remembered how he spoke of people with the power over the earth’s natural elements, and now he was sure there was some truth behind those fairytales. After three years, Adam had learned to control the water element with ease, and decided it was now time to rejoin civilization once more. Returning to his hometown, he realized that he had no home anymore, so he reached out to his old friends from school. His best friend Daisy was more than happy to accommodate him and help him out in his time of need.
Daisy was now living alone in an apartment, and working as a waitress to help pay her way through college. She was always one of the most trustworthy people of Adam’s friends, and so he decided to tell her everything. He told her about what happened with his uncle, how he had run away so that he wouldn’t hurt anyone until he could learn to control it, and then he showed her his abilities first hand. Surprisingly, she handled the news really well. Instead of treating him as a freak, she accepted him and told him that she had always believed he was special. With everything out in the open, they began talking about the future and what he was going to do. He wasn’t sure what the future held for him, but he told her first thing he planned to do was get apply for the GED test so that he could at least get his diploma to aid him in getting a job. Lucky for him, Adam managed to pass the GED on his first attempt, and now that he had his diploma, he could focus on getting a job. Daisy helped him get his first job by putting in a good word with the manager of the restaurant she worked at. After working at the restaurant for six months Adam felt as though things were turning around for him, that was until the event that occurred on March 13, 2015.
He was working at the restaurant as usual with Daisy, when another strange phenomenon occurred like the one that claimed the life of his uncle. While gathering the next meal to deliver, the tattoo on his lower back began to tingle. Reaching his hand back, he scratched at the tingling sensation thinking that it might only be an itch that needed scratching. However, the tingling sensation increased in volumes and once again a searing pain burned through his lower back. He collapsed to the floor in pain, and screamed out in agony. Daisy came rushing to his side, and his eyes were flashing a vivid green. She remembered what he told her about the night his uncle died, and she tried to help him get in control before something happened.
Not long after the screaming began, the earth beneath them began to shake, and an earthquake began. The longer the pain went on, the stronger the shaking got, and that was when it knocked the young female off balance and sent her backwards into the steel cupboards. As she collided with the cupboards a knife, that was resting on the top of the cupboard, flew forward and impaled the back of Daisy’s head. Adam’s heart sank as he saw her lifeless body collapse to the ground, and then the earthquake stopped. Out in the dining area of the restaurant, there were injured civilians, and some crushed by pieces of the building that fell in the earthquake. When the police arrived on the scene, everyone was questioned about what happened and those that were severely injured rushed to the hospital.
Adam immediately blamed himself for everything, but the manager of the restaurant told the police that an earthquake had hit them, and he was not to blame. The young man didn’t know what to do. He was obviously the cause of what happened there, but if he told people that he had ‘abilities’, they might try and dissect him or something. After that event, Adam quit his job at the restaurant and never left the apartment that he and Daisy lived in, until the day of her funeral. A week after the funeral, he received a call from South Korea. It was a man saying that he had been trying to get in touch with him for quite some time. When his father died, he left Adam a sum in the amount of 1,500,000 Canadian Dollars. Shocked by this news, he made a trip to South Korea to meet with the man.
After meeting with the man that he spoke to on the phone, Adam now had 1,500,000 Canadian Dollars to decide on how he wanted to use them. First thing on his mind was searching for the place his father mentioned in his fairytales. If the people who could control the earth’s natural elements were true, then maybe this place he spoke of was true as well. He searched days and months, but couldn’t find any mention of a city or town named Evermore anywhere. He sat on the money his father left for him, and continued to add to it from the odd jobs he done here and there in his travels to find the fantasy place.
On his twenty-first birthday, Adam finally found what he was looking for. While visiting the United States, he met with a man that had information regarding the city of Evermore that he had been searching for. He told him that Evermore was a city in Colorado, and how it was home to things you couldn’t even imagine. Now that he had a lead, he planned to follow it, right to the very end. He applied for a citizenship to the United States, and then traveled to the location that the man told him about. While he waited for his approval or denial of his citizenship, he found the city that he was searching for; Evermore, Colorado. When he arrived in Evermore, he began looking around at available houses. While house searching, he learned that a group of people just like him lived just outside the city near the base of the mountains, and so Adam headed towards the base of the mountain.
When he arrived at the place, he felt a sense of home in his gut, and he knew that this would be where he wanted to live. He began searching for available houses in the area, and found the perfect place for him. Contacting the seller of the house, he put in an offer of 350,000 US Dollars, and within a week, he received a phonecall from the real estate agent that he had gotten the property. A week after that, he received word that he had been approved for his citizenship to the United States. With that Adam packed his bags and prepared to move to the city of Evermore, Colorado. When he transferred his money from Canadian Dollars to US Dollars, he was left with 856,150 US Dollars.
The year is currently 2018, and Adam is currently 21, and making the move from his home in Toronto, Ontario; to his new home in Evermore, Colorado. He is unsure what the future will hold for him, but he does know that the answers he is looking for is located in that city. He has yet to fully control his powers over the Earth element, but with time he is sure he can control them as well as he does the Water element. When he arrives in the he has two things waiting for him for sure, his new house, and a building which he will be making into a theatre to resemble his stepmother’s. He had previously reached out to all of the same film production sponsors his step-mother had, and he is even going to restore her theatre name; The Lumina Theatre. He had big plans for his new life in Evermore, and now all he had to do was follow through with them.
