Carli Danford. The name was well-known in the con industry. Some worshipped her treacherous ways, while others were jealous of her tactics. However, out of the few who could stand up against her, Alexander, the phoenix child of the noble family Bellerose, of Centre-Val de Loire, France, was one who wouldn’t easily give up, no matter how tough the competition was. As Carli lowered herself into the national building of the Bank Of Denmark, her target - the huge sums of money belonging to the renowned Mafia group of Izolda Romanoff - she stumbled across another male with the same advances as herself. He, however, was dressed as a Security Guard, while she, a worker at the Bank.

It was amidst the teaming up, snippy comebacks and the purple tint in her deep blue eyes, that Alexander realized how intriguing Carli truly was; an angel, literally and metaphorically. Carli, however, was more interested in the task at hand than the subtle romantic gestures the phoenix had been trying to catch her attention with. It was after their third robbery of Romanoff’s money that Carli responded to Alexander’s interest with a small peck on his lips and an inviting smirk.

The couple soon became the most elusive con artists. People talked about the robberies at the four banks. In hushed whispers, they praised their courage to steal from Izolda Romanoff, the most sought after female Mafia leaders of the 21st century. But that didn’t sit well with Izolda, and the Russian decided to hire an assassin to eliminate the problem.

However, as luck would have it, Alexander caught wind of Romanoff’s plan and decided to go into hiding. With Carli, he flew back to Centre-Val de Loire and inherited one of the many fine vineyards his family had left behind for him. ‘Danford and Bellerose’ vineyards soon became the most popular in the wine-making industry, and the French state and the couple went ahead to set up more around the world. After three years of success, the couple finally decided to get married and the vineyards came to be known as ‘Bellerose & Family’.

The couple were soon blessed by a son who they named Charles, after Carli’s grandfather, and two years later, a beautiful girl became a part of the family. Adrianna Bellerose, as the name suggests, was not only beautiful, but also precious and within the age of one, she had the entire family wrapped around her tiny fingers.

Alexander and Carli took their time adjusting to parenthood. They were careless, at first, forgetting Charles at the gas station, or feeding Adrianna pasta at the age of two months. However, after many visits to and from the pediatrician, the couple finally adjusted to the lives of parents. Charles and Adrianna were close almost from the beginning. The two year old brother took care of his infant sister like he loved her more than anything in the world. The two grew up sharing stories, playing together, laughing together and rarely, almost once in a blue moon, fighting over something so petty that they would end up laughing and hugging each other. There was no way to keep one away from the other for long and when the third child, Cameron joined the household three years later, the older siblings took on the role of his bodyguard.

It wasn’t long before the Bellerose family, a group of seven, were celebrating the arrival of the youngest member of the family and the sixth sibling: Arianna Bellerose. Adrianna still recalls everyone gathered around the small hospital room, holding Charles’ hand, while he carried five year old, Alaiza in his arms. She remembers the smile plastered over Cameron and three year old, Chase’s faces when they saw their baby sister and instantly, the room was filled with love and happiness, a warm feeling of the family finally being complete overwhelming the little ones.

From a very young age, Carli and Alexander had started training their children in the defense art, knowing that they would either grow up to be Nephilims or Phoenixes, and both required for them to have full knowledge about their potential. The Bellerose siblings were no strangers to the world of supernatural, they had seen friends of their parents who were vampires, necromancers, fae, werewolves and even shifters. They knew the two types of life laid out in front of them - be a Nephilim and a protector of humans, or a Phoenix and fight against the Initias.

When red lines appeared on Charles’s body, Adrianna knew he was different from her, for she had developed thick white scars on either sides of her shoulder blades. It disappointed the siblings to know that they were destined to be different, but their love never diminished. Soon, the other siblings began to reveal their species. Cameron was a Nephilim, along with Chase and Alaiza while Arianna was a Phoenix with Charles. Even though they were not all the same, Carli and Alexander taught the children to stick together and love them all equally, a trait that would keep them all united in the years to come.

Charles grew up to be the responsible one in the family. Adrianna following close behind. Cameron and Chase were the pranksters of the household, often tricking the family members and the staff with plastic lizards, spiders, even gluing Alexander to his car seat causing him to miss Alaiza’s birth. They were mischievous and often scolded. However, it was Chase’s cute factor that saved them from trouble most of the time. Alaiza was the more sensible one out of the six. She was quiet and reserved and often found herself in the company of books and horses, whenever her best friend and the youngest, Arianna was off being spoilt by the nannies and other staff. The youngest was the most outgoing, wild and sometimes, a rebel, of the family. She would often pick up fights with others in school, or argue and fight with the other members when she wouldn’t have her own way. However, it was only Alaiza who could keep her in check and made her as humble as polite as her stubborn attitude would let her.

While the rest of the family were busy with school and social life, Adrianna and Charles spent all the time they could, devoting themselves to stories of the supernatural, reading journals of ancestors from the huge library in the house, learning more about their species and doing everything together. It was during one of their sessions in the old majestic library that Adrianna stumbled upon a ledger. However, it was no ordinary financial records, it spoke of the cons and all the money Carli and Alexander had robbed before they had settled down. It came as a shock to her that the two she grew up thinking of as her role models had such a treacherous past. Something in her changed and she grew more suspicious of her parents.

As fate may have it, it was that very night that Carli and Alexander were visited by another Mafia group who threatened their family and their identity if they didn’t get the job done. Forced by the safety of the Bellerose household, the couple decided to carry out this one last mission, in hopes that this would be the end of their con life. Adrianna soon found out about the con and it broke her. The little bit of trust she had in her parents was gone too. She had lost all hopes and darkness seemed to cloud the angel-child’s mind.

Charles, almost immediately, noticed the change in behaviour in Adrianna. Worried that his sister was going through something alone, he confronted her and as she broke down in tears in front of the oldest sibling, Charles held her close, promising to protect her from the pain. He vowed to follow their parents with her and confront them and he gave her his word that he wouldn’t let anyone hurt her the way their parents did.

The two secretly follow their parents around, plotting, planning and keeping secrets from the rest of the siblings. Although they worried about Charles and Adrianna closing off to them, the others merely ignored it as them dealing with things for ‘’old people’’. On the other hand, Carli and Alexander were sent to retrieve a precious gem from the Carnavalet Museum, Paris which was about to be auctioned.

Just when they had gotten in their car after stealing the gem, that Carli and Alexander came face to face with the teary-eyed, heartbroken Charles and Adrianna, sitting in the backseat. It was the look of disappointment and betrayal in their bright optics that led the couple to sell the gem off instead of returning it to the Mafia; a mistake, they knew, but they also knew that they couldn’t do something wrong like that in front of their children, or at all. What if they were pushed into the con industry. They would never be able to forgive themselves.

Adrianna and Charles decided to stay with Carli and Alexander for a week in Paris. Still not able get forgiveness from the two, the parents decided to make up for their actions. They took them to the Eiffel Tower, visited the Louvre, told them about the beautiful architectures and paintings and bridges that made Paris quite an eyesight. It was on their way back home that their car mysteriously ran out of fuel and came to a halt in the middle of nowhere. The two children were fast asleep in the backseat and it wasn’t until a scream pierced through the air, followed by a sob that they woke up.

Huddled close together, Adrianna and Charles watched the scene unfold in front of the car. A man dressed in black driving a golden blade through their father’s heart, his body falling limp on the hood of the car, their mother’s blood splattered across the windshield and her body lying on the road, their worst nightmare had come to life. When they rushed out of the car, Adrianna caught sight of the assassin’s face and vengeance dawned upon her. A similar rage burnt in Charles veins as the two spent the next couple of days hunting the man down.

“Dunkirk’’ was the city their search had led them to. Adrianna and Charles, with barely any weapons other than anger and vendetta, killed the man who murdered their parents. They hadn’t thought through the consequences of their actions. So, when Charles doubled over in pain, his wings moulding into that of a bird of prey, the anger was replaced by worry and guilt. Adrianna took a comatosed Charles home, tears staining her sharp features as she placed him on the bed, the others inquiring of what had happened and where their parents were.

It was in a moment like that when Adrianna felt most alone. It took her a couple of days to compose herself, handling the grief, anger and guilt that had all overwhelmed her and finally tell the truth to everyone. The news was met with melancholy and it was only the wish to see Charles wake up once again that held them all together, instead of the siblings closing off and handling grief by themselves.

It changed them all drastically, Chase and Cameron began to grow quieter, the number of pranks they pulled, decreasing. Although they tried their best to keep the smiles on everyone’s faces, their own were grief-stricken and gloomy. Arianna began to research more about Mafia’s and cons, in hopes of finding peace and if it wasn’t for Alaiza, she would have fallen into the dark world of gangsters and treachery.

By the time Charles awoke, big decisions had piled up over the family. Now legal guardians, Charles, twenty-eight and Adrianna, twenty-six, were forced to make choices for the rest of the family. They were all still in shock from the events, still in pieces when one night, the angel-children, Adrianna, Cameron and Chase ran out of their rooms and stumbled into the living room in great pain. Adriana still remembers the feeling of having the scars on her shoulder blades being ripped open, her head throbbing as her entire body spasmed in pain before everything went black.

The next morning when they awoke, the Bellerose family were met with a new set of events. Charles, Arianna and Alaiza were gifted with the ability to manipulate weather, whereas, Adrianna, Alaiza, Cameron and Chase had wings. This arose a lot of questions, and resulted in a distraction from all the sorrow that loomed over the house. Charles and Adrianna, inquisitive and seeing this as an opportunity to move on, decided it was time for them to all pack up and leave the house behind, on the journey of finding answers to their questions.

Everyone except Arianna agreed to the decision, and it took the rebel a few weeks of persuasion to finally join the family in their journey across the globe. After about a year and half of roaming around for answers, Cameron caught wind of a city named Evermore, an abode for supernatural. They spent no time in travelling across the ocean and within a few months, they had bought themselves a house in the city and were settling down.

The faction system greatly disappointed them at first, since it meant the family couldn’t stick together, however, the Phoenix and the Nephilim Ambassador, Leona d’Fierro and Cornelia Bradford, helped them settle down in the city, agreeing to still make them a part of the community, despite the fact that they wouldn’t live in the faction.

It seemed like a fresh new start, away from the horrors of the past, if only one knew what was to follow.
