On the longest day of the year during a warm summer’s evening in June 1954, Ireland in a small village, Eleanor Lilyana Martin was born to loving parents; her father a Fae and her mother an Initia. From the moment her parents first looked at their beautiful baby girl, they knew she would be special and accomplish many things, leading a good life and even though most parents believed this about their children, Eleanor’s parents just had a feeling it would be true. A few years after her birth, Eleanor was graced with a younger brother as her sibling and they grew inseparable whilst growing up; Eleanor feeling the need to protect her younger brother from any harm.
The Martin’s were seen as a laid back family, helping the community they lived in, in any way they possibly could and this is how Eleanor grew up; helping anybody in need of it and including everyone her age in the games they played as young children. Being a bright spirited young girl, Eleanor quickly became friends with most children around her age in the village they lived in. It became obvious she was eager to learn when she attended school, only to come back and want to learn more about the world she lived in which is where her mother and father stepped in with telling her about the species they were part of.
Both easily fascinated the young girl and soon enough, she was infatuated with the idea of becoming either a Fae or Initia and was wanting to learn as much as she could about the histories of both and many others once it came to learning about the other species that also occupied the world they lived in. So it came to be that she would go to school, learn about the normal world there and the lessons that were taught in every school before returning home where she would do any homework she’d been giving and then if she had the chance, Eleanor would play with her friends for a while before returning home and then beginning her lessons on the Initia and Fae.
During the time spent with her mother, she and Eleanor found many ways to make Eleanor’s learning interesting; this varying from interesting pieces of artwork drawn by the generations of Initia before them to showing Eleanor just exactly what she could do with an element which being the little girl Eleanor was, became fascinated with. Eleanor cherished all the time she spent with her mother and even though it was spent learning more most of the time, she enjoyed every moment and all the time they spent together, they grew closer. Closer than Eleanor ever was to her father and although some outside the family may have viewed it just being a ‘mother daughter’ thing, they knew differently. They weren’t just mother and daughter, they grew to be best friends.
From an early age, Eleanor had developed a love for reading books, whether they be science fiction and fantasy to crime and thriller. She would beg her mother to read to her every night before she went to sleep, loving the calming tone of her mother's voice that lulled her into a deep sleep. This created even more of a strong connection with her mother, spending much time together; whether it be learning or just generally having fun and playing around like the child Eleanor was and like the child her mother truly was on the inside.
Continuing to grow and learn more as she grew older, Eleanor impressed her teachers with her quick learning skills which put her high in the class as she aced any tests she participated in. It soon became obvious that her love for reading had also given Eleanor the great skill of writing which became obvious in the time when writing a creative piece for a school book. This, Eleanor was pleased about as now she aspired to take that skill and use it to inspire many other generations just like many had before her.
Eleanor’s life continued how it was for many years; she was persistent in learning at school and continued her studies from home as well, eager to do well in her life just like her parents dreamed of her doing. Though that all came to a sudden end a month after Eleanor’s twelfth birthday; a day in which she would never forget. An incident happened, involving both Eleanor and her mother as a drunk driver swerved onto their side of the road and right into the car as they were driving.
Her mother hadn't been quick enough to change the direction the car was going in time to miss the other car with little injuries, instead heading into a side on collision. Eleanor, who had been sat next to her mother in the front, screamed in terror at the impact. Her screams rang out at the pain that coursed through her body from the impact of the crash and at the sight of her mother next to her who was telling her told on when she was barely holding on herself. By the time paramedics had made it to the scene, her mother was long gone and un-savable; which the younger more immature version of Eleanor didn't want to believe.
Being injured from the impact, Eleanor was rushed to the hospital as soon as they had her out of the car safely. They assessed her to find any wounds, discovering she had a broken wrist as well as a few broken and fractured ribs with small cuts across her body from the smashed glass of the windows. As soon as they reached the hospital, Eleanor was taken in for x-ray tests on her arm and ribs before she was finally placed in a room with a kind nurse cleaning the cuts with a disinfectant and wiping the blood away, telling her it would be alright when deep down, Eleanor knew she would never be alright again.
It was hard for Eleanor to take the news once she was told about her mother by her father, taking and feeling the loss close to heart, feeling like a piece of her was missing. A piece of her was missing and that piece would always be missing. The piece that her mother filled with love and happiness was gone, all that was left being an empty shell of what was once a small happy child. She didn’t want to believe it, not one bit. She didn’t want to believe that her mother, her best friend was gone once and for all. Once Eleanor was allowed to leave the hospital, she returned to her home in the small village with her father and brother, the loss of her mother still heavy in her heart and mind.
Over the next year or two, Eleanor was never the same, always feeling the empty spot in her left behind from the loss of her mother, and her father along with everyone else she knew, could tell that her deaths had a huge impact on Eleanor, especially at the age she was and seeing her mother die before her eyes whilst telling her to hold on. It’s nothing somebody should ever witness, especially at a young age. Eleanor had eventually gotten use to the looks of sympathy and guilt that showed in people's eyes whenever they would talk to her and although the loss still pained her, she was slowly healing and just wanted everyone to leave her alone so she could heal in her own time. She turned to her books, the books her mother read to her as a child and found comfort in them, knowing that although her mother wasn't there with her in person; she would always have a space in Eleanor's heart and that is where she would stay.
For months on end, Eleanor was do the same daily routine. She would wake, eat with her father and brother before going to school. She would then come home and complete her homework before doing any extra studying and eating dinner with them before returning to her room and locking herself away, burying herself in the books her mother once read aloud to her during the many nights of her childhood. It was beginning to worry her father and the rest of her family. Worrying that she would never come out of the state she was in, almost as if she was stuck on the same setting. Stuck on repeat.
Although Eleanor didn’t function normally like she used to, she still excelled in school and did better than ever, having studied plenty at home of both her level of work and the levels above in which helped her achieve the highest grades where she was then moved up to the next level. She may have not been the same person at that time but she still had dreams to aspire to, in which she knew she couldn’t shut away the world completely. She still had her whole life ahead of her in which she planned to do something with.
During one summer after her fifteenth birthday, the day started out normal. Eleanor was reading in her room as she usually did but that soon changed very quickly. It started out as a small itch on the middle of her back which soon grew into a tingling sensation that spread over her lower back. Eleanor didn’t know what was happening, having never been told by her mother what actually happened during the process of getting the tattoo of the Initia tribe. Shaking off the tingling sensation that was occuring on her back, Eleanor picked up her book once again and began to read; though continuously kept losing her concentration from reaching behind her to itch at the spot on her back.
Soon enough after losing her concentration on the book for the fifth time, Eleanor gave up on trying to read and put the book down which is when it started. A burning feeling ran across her back making her cry out in pain at the stinging which only drew her father’s attention. At the sound of him running into her room, Eleanor let the few tears in her eyes drip down her face and onto the wooden floor from the throbbing feeling on her lower back. It didn’t take long for her father to realise that it was the tribal tattoo of the Initia that was burning itself across her back.
As soon as the pain and stinging has stopped in her lower back, Eleanor just let the tears fall as her father held her in his arms like he did when she was younger before she gained her composure. It didn’t shock him when he saw the very familiar design of the tribal tattoo of the Initia on her skin. She was more like her mother than she knew and it just proved that thought from the tattoo that proved who she was. When Eleanor saw the intricate design of the tattoo on her back, she instantly knew what it meant and a smile etched its way onto her face as the memories of her mother came back to her; the memories where her mother would cheer her up by making pretty flowers grow up her wall.
Just seeing the tattoo put a smile on her face at the realisation that she had a piece of her mother back and that she would always have that piece with her, until she took her last breath on this Earth. It was then that Eleanor became aware of the fact that even though her mother was gone, she would always live on in their hearts and the memories they preserved of her time with them. She now understood that her mother wouldn’t want her to continue to on how she has been, hiding herself away so she could try deal with the pain by herself when really, all she needed was her family by her side and she knew that now.
Everyone could immediately see the change in Eleanor and although they would never truly know the truth about the Martin family and the species they were surrounded by, they were just happy to see her happy once more. Continuing on with a newfound motivation, Eleanor pushed through the rest of her years at school and ended up graduating earlier than she expected with her extra studying. With the best grades she could’ve gotten, Eleanor was pleased with what she had done during her school years and knowing just exactly what she wanted to do, Eleanor made the decision to leave her home in Ireland to travel and make use of her writing skills.
It was on the day of her eighteenth birthday in 1972, when Eleanor woke to her father and brother that she knew that day had come, though not only for the reason of her career calling her name. For generations in her family through her mother’s side, a necklace had been passed and passed on through the eldest daughter of the family on their eighteenth birthday and it was now Eleanor’s turn to take the necklace and continue the legacy by keeping the necklace before passing it on once more when the time came. Eleanor felt that it was an honour to wear the necklace many before her had worn and she knew with no doubt, that she would cherish the necklace and wear it with pride, just as her mother had.
A few weeks after her eighteenth birthday, Eleanor had left her home in Ireland with the money she had saved up from over the years, with the plan to tour around the United States, hoping that along the way she will find enough inspiration for her books to last her a life time and knowing subconsciously that along the way, she will find more than just inspiration for her stories. Packing up everything she needed, Eleanor bid a farewell to her father and brothers before she headed away from the quaint village in Ireland and towards a new start. She had heard before that there was a city the supernatural lived in. Evermore City, Colorado or rightly nicknamed the Eternal City had caught her interest straight off and Eleanor knew that this city, would be her first stop of hopefully many to come.
During her time in Evermore City, Eleanor met a young man with the name of Elliot. The two instantly connected and grew a strong sibling bond, treating each other like siblings and always messing around with each other like actual siblings would do. The more time they spent together, the more they grew closer to each other and it stayed that way until Elliot had to leave Evermore City with the news of his mother being in a fatal accident. They both promised that they wouldn't forget the other and Eleanor knew she would keep that promise, not wanting to forget the brother figure he'd come to be during their time of knowing one another.
It wasn’t long after Elliot had left that Eleanor soon became weary of Evermore City. She could feel the tension beginning to rise amongst the species there and she knew deep down, that the feuding between the species there wouldn’t end easily so she made the decision to leave and move on to her next destination. Eleanor held hopes that the supernatural beings of Evermore City would find peace amongst themselves and that it the city would return to how it once was but Eleanor had her doubts too. She just hoped that the brother Elliot had come to be, would be safe if he ever returned there.
It was amongst her travels in the States that Eleanor had come across several rumours of there being an Island where the species had peace with one another and where they aimed to create peace elsewhere in the world. The idea fascinated Eleanor and being the curious person she was, the young Initia decided to head back home to Ireland for a brief visit before heading off once again. Though this time, not in aim for an adventure. This time, she was aiming to find peace and be accepted amongst these people who wanted the same as she did.
Eleanor’s visit home had been short and brief, only staying for a week where she took the chance to find any information she could in books for this Isle of Skye she had heard about. She couldn’t find much information, taking it that this organisation was very secretive and on the down low to outsiders. Ending her stay in the village she called home, Eleanor’s curiosity ended up getting the better of her as she left Ireland and in the direction of the Isle of Skye where she hoped, soon enough she would get the answers she was looking for and hopefully, to pledge herself to their cause.
At first, the Initia hadn’t realised she had reached the Isle of Skye until after she had crossed the protective barrier that protected the Island, proving herself to have pure intentions as she did so. She’d surprised herself at first, not wanting to believe all that was in front of her but she soon realised it was all real when she ventured further into the island. She had soon been discovered by one of the Ailward Guards as they had called themselves before being taken to the Aspects where she would swear to the oath that embodied and promising to do her best in aiding their cause, which without doubt, Eleanor would promise to do one hundred percent.
After being accepted as an Ailward Guard, Eleanor trained with the others and learnt all she could about the ways of the Aspects and the Guards, becoming close friends with many of them and joining the family of the Ailwards; both Guards and Aspects alike. She felt at home with them, like they truly had become her family, which they had.
Years had gone by with training and continuing to learn, as well as helping the Guards in the missions they had to help make peace in many areas outside of the Isle of Skye which is where Eleanor proved herself as a loyal Ailward Guard. She moved up the ranks and after years of hard work, Eleanor became the Commander of the Ailward Guard where she took the job just as serious as she had before being the Commander. She was no different from anyone else and continued on just the way she had before, though this time she had more to attend to.
It was a few years after becoming Commander that Eleanor heard of a newcomer to the Guard and she usually did, she went to greet and welcome them to the Guard but as soon as she saw who it was, Eleanor couldn’t help but question herself whether it was really the person who had become a brother to her or whether it was someone else. Her question was soon answered when he saw her, though it wasn’t a happy reunion between two close friends as some would imagine.
It was soon after Elliot had arrived that he found Eleanor and told her he needed to speak with her immediately about something important. Eleanor could tell he was nervous about what he had to tell her and she reassured him that everything would be okay though as soon as the words left his mouth, she had no words to say to him. Elliot could tell she was shocked from the news he told her and she had the right to be. Finding out you had a half brother you never knew about was definitely something to be surprised over though Eleanor grew to the idea of having another sibling.
Many years later was when the Guard acted on what was happening in Evermore City as the tension continued to grow between the species. The Guards and the Aspects had moved to the city to keep a close eye on the things that happened there and it was then that Eleanor seriously hoped that the Guard would make a difference there in the City. Where they would achieve their goal in making peace for the supernatural world.
