The moment Tülay Enver received the news that she was carrying, unlike every expecting Mother - she was full of dread. Now, this wasn't because she didn't want children, but due to the lifestyle that she and Yusef Enver followed; Yusef was the infamous wanted Pirate of Bodrum. The Turkish government were after him, his name tainted not only with piracy but also with charges of countless murders; it seemed he enjoyed thievery on land as well as at sea. It was not just the Turkish government, but pirates on competitor ships were also wanting in, not only for the bounty but for the recognition that they had taken out the most famous and most feared pirate the Turkish seas had ever seen. Yet, Yusef had many loyal followers and shipmates which made his capture ever the more difficult for the opposing predators. Yusef had promised never to see a single hair be harmed on Tülay, however, this didn't mean that she was confident to tell him that she wished to abort the child who had taken residency within her womb. She was fearful that if he found out she aborted his child, his heir, her fate would be far worse than death. Tülay spent more time thinking and deciding that time had flown by and before she knew it, her stomach had ballooned, and the soft rumours soon became true; Yusef would be a Father and to a baby boy at that - the perfect heir to continue the Enver piracy bloodline.
By the time Ilyas Enver was born, his life already had an expiry date; the pirates in particular were now more interested in harming Yusef by murdering his son instead; an emotional stab to the heart would be a greater blow than a physical one, so they said. Despite the constant threat to the baby boy’s life, those around the Enver family saw a different side to Yusef which many had never seen; he was soft and loving to the young boy and seemed a lot more considerate to the Mother of his child. In fact, he even began to speak of having more once Tülay's body had recovered. Yet, despite the happiness Ilyas brought his family, it made it more difficult for Yusef to figure out how it would be safe for his wife and child when he went to sea. The year was 1670 and after much discussion with Yusef's crew and fellow Phoenixes, they decided it was time (and safer) to leave the lands and shores of Bodrum to go to the Caribbean where no one necessarily knew them, would not have the rumours that they were fire birds but, more importantly; Piracy was at its peak and it would give Yusef the man power to provide for his small family as well as his firebird crew. Ilyas was ten years old when the Enver family and crew set the City of Bodrum alight and left for the other side of the world; in fact, for the first time, he had saw confidence in his Mother's eyes that they would be safe.
Whilst sailing to The Caribbean, Yusef, when he wasn't captaining, fighting or raiding; he began to teach Ilyas the history of his species, their family tree as well as how to fight in case the worse happened. In the years that followed, Ilyas became a great fighter, eager to be able to manipulate fire much like the rest of his crew, however, his Mother could see that he was slowly beginning to show characteristic like his Father. However, Tülay had dismissed her thoughts due to Ilyas being a teen and due to her stomach swelling once more. Throughout those years, Ilyas had watched his Father leave and return with many goods - they were right, the Caribbean was good to them; not a single crew from Turkey had followed them, therefore, the enemies they had now were either British or other jealous crews. Yet on some occasions, Yusef didn't return until weeks after his crew, being reborn again with new faces each time. Ilyas now firmly in his mid twenties began raiding with his Father as well as alone to help provide for his Mother and younger sisters; Azra and Zehra. It was on one of his raids that he encountered an English girl who, in his eyes, shone brighter than any flame he could produce; he left his men to raid the town whilst he sought her out. Her name was Eleanor, a daughter of a British commander; the two spent many months meeting in secret when Ilyas found out she was Initia - if his parents found out who and what she was, death would certainly be on the cards. Unfortunately, Eleanor’s Father began to get suspicious of her behaviour and ordered her to be followed which resulted in Ilyas and herself being caught.
This resulted in a great battle once word got to her Father; the man she loved being Phoenix. Yusef, Ilyas and their crew had no other option to fight for their life and for the sea they now called home. Even Tülay agreed to fight as long as her girls remained in hiding; the battle was long and tiresome and resulted in many deaths, yet it was the final deaths which changed Ilyas forever. He had watched how his Father's head rolled to his feet, he watched how his Mother's heart got ripped from her chest; this scene alone caused Ilyas to see more than just red. His body moved in ways he had never known possible to reach his target; Eleanor’s Father. The man's death was slow and painful, to punish him for murdering his parent's; yet, Ilyas's murder spree did not end there. He knew that if he let her go, she would soon return with more Initias to take him and his remaining crew for killing not just her Father, but tribe leader and a royal commander. Ilyas believed he killed Eleanor out of love. He believed she also deserved it, thus, when it came to disposing the woman, instead of allowing the sea to take her with her element; he set her body aflame. Ilyas watched how her body became engulfed in flames, his crew already had returned to his sisters; it took a few days for Ilyas to return - he knew he had to get his head clear if he were to look after and protect his sisters who were now getting to the age where they probably wanted to do their own thing.
The Enver Crew/Clan knew they had to keep a low profile because, much like his Father - Ilyas had the British Government after him, and knowing he was not a British citizen, his death would be met at the end of a noose; without a fair trial despite being pirate. Not only that, but word had got back to Turkey that Yusef had died, which consequently made them believe the Enver family would much easier to take out; it was as if time had repeated itself. They were on the run, again, from Death's shadow. The Phoenixes remained sheltered deep within the belly of the forest for a century or two, living on what the land provided; which compared to what they were used to, was not a lot and certainly not enough to keep a small tribe together. Arguments began, pointless killings occurring just for the other to be reborn; a few of the males testing Ilyas's patience as they continued to court his younger sisters. One crew member successfully won the heart of Zehra, and claimed her by finding her carrying his child. This of course, enraged Ilyas yet despite the poisoning darkness which began on the day of his parent's death, he knew this man had protected him as a child and took it upon himself to even scales. Ilyas allowed him and his sister to continue their relationship purely out of his own gratitude rather than his sisters happiness.
The crew, despite having tendencies to for each other's throats began to work as a family, as a team once more to make their small area welcoming for the new, soon to be baby Phoenix. They built small cabins to protect the child from the elements and storage in hope the land would be kind and provide them with sustainable food once more. Zehra's stomach continued to swell and the land they took residence still did not provide enough for an additional mouth even if the babe would only live on milk for the years to follow. Despite wanting to keep his excitement in, Ilyas couldn't help but start to feel somewhat proud that he soon would become an Uncle, especially has he had yet to have children himself; it didn't help the only women in his tribe where his Sisters. Therefore, Ilyas took it upon himself to leave the tribe to seek out better food as some were simply dying and being reborn due to the lack of basic necessities. It was this decision, that would lead Ilyas to never return to his people, to his family.
Due to living in the belly of the forest for centuries, Ilyas had no idea what was to come the moment he stepped out of the protection of the canopy of trees; the world around him was indescribable. There was a buzz that he could not describe, and there things that he had never seen before, let alone used; the moment he stepped out in his ripped cloth and sword to his hip, people began to stare but more importantly, run from him. Now, he knew he was well built and had a lot more facial hair than most, but to run when he was not attacking? Even the women? Bizzare. However, this was not the time, he had to ignore his shock and amazement, his bafflement and his confusion for a later date - he needed to steal food. Yet, little did he know that his Father’s enemies were still at large, they had now dominated the town; being a mixture of Phoenixes and Initia - without knowing, he had been spotted by the son of the Captain who was not much older than himself; physically speaking. In one swift movement, Ilyas had been hit hard enough around the head to render him unconscious and moved onto the enemy’s ship.
Ilyas didn’t know how long he had been out, but the moment he awoke, he was restrained to main mask; with many failed attempts of freeing himself, the men upon the crew took turns in hitting him with blows. Blood tainted his tanned flesh, and the wood that had surrounded him - however, he knew well enough who these pirates were the moment the Captain came forth. Kadri Sozen. “I knew we would get you eventually. What a pity your father is not here to see you die time and time again” Kadri had smirked and clapped in joy; at first, they continued to kill him whilst bound to the main mask, yet after a few weeks and growing bored, they decided to drown the fire bird. Little did they know, nor could expect what was to come next. They kept him bound by rope, and allowed the sea to engulf his soul for the final time, once they brought him back up, in attempt to show some kindness to his beaten body and knowing he would be out for a few more days; the Pirates released him from his ropes and put him to rest in the hull.
Eventually, Ilyas was reborn, but this time - it felt different. Instead of the warmth of the flames, he was kissed by bitter ice; something that not even in the hot sun should he feel. He could feel the ice poisoning his veins, but like he did when he hit the modern cities, Ilyas came round and knew he would need to escape; he was not foolish enough to believe he could take down a whole ship of Phoenixes and Initia, but he would gain an army to take them down one day - for his Father’s sake. Ilyas waited until dark to make his escape when the majority of the crew were asleep, or too tired to truly keep watch to make his escape; thus, it was a lot easier than expected. For the first time in what seemed to be centuries, Ilyas released his wings and took to shore where he could come to terms with the ice that continued to send shivers down his spine - quite literally. Once again, he remained in hiding and he recalled some of the stories he heard the men on the ship discuss - there was this city, a supernatural sanctuary; maybe it was in this city he would find the answers he so desperately wanted - what happened on this rebirth? And maybe, just maybe, it was a save enough place to bring his crew and family where they would not be hunted by his, nor his Father’s past.
