Marium had watched her mother leave the water at a very young age; big blue eyes peaking just above the surface, before she lost her nerve and delved back into the depths of her home. Days soon turned to weeks, no sign of her mother to be found. Mary knew she'd had reason to leave, something important... it would have had to have been important. The little Naiad told herself stories of what great adventures her mother must be on- perhaps she'd left to bring home Mary's father. However, weeks became months, and months gave way to years. Even then, Marium refused to see the truth of the matter- that she was utterly alone.

All questions were to remain unanswered. She knew nothing of her father, Astrum, her mother, had never spoken a word of him. Mary liked to believe that it was because they had a great and tragic romance. Her father had been of great importance... perhaps a prince of humans. Astrum's sweet lullabies had lured the prince in, and he'd fallen in love with her mother at first sight. The truth is always less interesting than the fairytale.

Time goes by terribly fast when you have forever, even if it's spent on your own. Marium was never taught, she was never trained- the little creature has only ever had instinct and talent to survive on... with a heavy does of luck. Mary had never had the luxury of others of her species. In fact, it was not until a strange call brought her to a place where she saw others of her kind.

Though she entered from the East, she'd always felt that all water was her home. The West side of the river has never been thought of as "off limits" to her. The danger the world around her and above her, has made very little impact upon her. If ignorance is bliss, this spritely little naiad has known only a beautifully delusional existence.

Luck has been on her side these many years... However, Marium may find her rose hued outlook much changed as she discovers the truth about the world around her. Not to mention the secrets of this Eternal City.
