Morgan Lopez

Faction: Ailward Guard | Rank: In the community

Species: Human | Age: 32 | Faceclaim: Jesse Lee Soffer

Being born in a rich family had its perks and Morgan was no stranger to the privileges he had been showered with from the moment he was born. His parents both successful corporate lawyers living in the elite upper east side of Manhattan did everything they could to provide the best lifestyle to their three children. However, it wasn’t until they were much older that Morgan came to know the money wasn’t only flowing from his parents’ successful law firm.

Growing up Morgan didn’t question his parents’ need to have all the kids perfectly trained in various martial arts, shooting and boxing. Seeing their trophies from the time they were young, Morgan simply thought his parents wanted their kids to carry on their legacy. It was a bit surprising however that sometimes his well-educated parents prioritised the children’s fighting skills over their schooling.

It was the summer of 2007 however, when his dad went to one of his “work” trips and never returned. At first the family wasn’t concerned, knowing their parents’ habit of going on these long trips that sometimes lasted weeks, but when Morgan’s mother seemed tense too and decided to leave them at a friends’ care and look for their father, Morgan knew something was up.

On their first day back to school, Morgan and his siblings were agitated, still haven’t heard from their father the entire summer. They knew something was up, and there were whispers in school that the Lopez had more to themselves than just a family of lawyers. While some rumours talked about their father being involved in some shady business, others questioned whether even the law firm was real.

It was when in the middle of third period history Morgan was summoned out of class that he knew his nightmares had come true. His father was not coming back. He walked out into the hallway to find his mother with a bandage across her head, standing with a sad smile on her face. His siblings were also taken out of their respective classes as they huddled around her as she broke down crying.

Nobody could say what really happened to him, the public knew it was a plane crash, the Lopez’s private plane falling into the Atlantic on its way back to New York. But the crowds of people Morgan had never seen before attending his father’s funeral said otherwise. It made him feel like his father had led a secret life that the children had no idea about and it raised too many questions in little Morgan’s head.

The questions didn’t take long to be answered. The week after the funeral, Morgan’s mother sat the three siblings down and told them what had really happened, who they were and what they did. The Lopez were descendents from a long line of supernatural hunters. They used to be the protectors of New York City and had vowed to save mankind from the beasts that roamed around at night.

However, his father had drifted away from the cause. Their law firm was a front for a different business altogether; the business of hunting down supernaturals for money. They would hunt Nephilim for their healing blood, Phoenix for their rumoured tears, Therian for their teeth and the rarest of all, Celestials for their power over time. They would get contracts from powerful, corrupted humans and other supernatural beings to go on missions to kill and retrieve something they wanted from a species. Sometimes they were even contracted to eliminate an enemy, like Initia paying them to kill Phoenixes.

While the idea didn’t sit too well with Morgan, he watched rage took over his siblings as they slowly began blaming the people who hired their father for his death. He watched them as they morphed into vindictive Lopez’s who wanted to avenge their father’s death. His mother shared in their belief, training them to start going after everyone on their father’s list of contacts.

Morgan watched hatred consume the rest of his family day by day until months later, he could no longer see semblance of his old happy family with this one. He tried to convince them that what their father did was wrong and dangerous and he should’ve known the risks involved. Hunting down species for just being who they were wasn’t right. Protecting humans was one thing, but killing innocent supernaturals was another.

Not agreeing with their plans, Morgan finally left his house in search of a better life. Perhaps one that wasn’t so corrupted by money and revenge. It was a few years later that he found out about the Isle Of Skye - a place where all species were welcomed to seek refuge and spread peace and harmony in the world. It took him a few months to locate it and once he passed its protective barrier, the Ailwards welcomed him into their fold.

A few months later however, his old life came knocking back on his door when he got a message from his siblings to meet them. Upon his arrival at their chosen spot, he found out that their mother had passed away on one of their “missions” and it was then that the siblings had realized that an eye for an eye made the whole world blind. They sought Morgan out for help, for refuge, for a chance to start over and that’s what he gave them.

They joined the Ailward cause, the trio going on missions together. They were virtually unstoppable and their old life, the secrets, the hatred, the bloodshed, no longer a part of their present.

However, the day the Isle Of Skye fell, everything changed. Morgan was in Evermore on one of his missions alone, his siblings back home when he heard a distinct boom and looked up into the sky to watch as the Isle exploded, falling down as fire raining upon the land. He was too far away, but he could still hear the agonizing screams, the anguished cries for help and he stood there unable to do anything.
