Safiye was born in Ankara, Turkey. She was dotted on as a child, as her parents lost their previous child just a little over two years before Safiye was born. However, the loss of that child wasn’t the only tragedy her family faced. When Safiye turned fifteen, she had to deal with the loss of her mother—who was killed in a car accident. It was now her and her father. She would spend her afternoons working at the family restaurant afterward. She helped her father maintain the business. But slowly, her father was letting the restaurant slip.

By then, Safiye had fallen in love with food and had finished Culinary School. If she wasn’t attending the front of the restaurant, she was found in the kitchen learning how to cook the dishes with the head chef or helping prepare the food. So it wound her that the restaurant wasn’t being cared for as it should be. But Safiye was well aware as to why. The restaurant held many memories of her mother and it didn’t let her father recover.

She wasn’t the only one to notice this, her aunt who moved to America just a few years prior to her mother’s death noticed this as well. So when she came to visit her family in Turkey, she suggested to her father move away from the restaurant, from Ankara. To a place where he could start fresh, to let him recover. And that place was Evermore, Colorado.

Safiye had mix feelings about her father’s decisions to listen to his sister. She wanted what was best for her father but she couldn’t understand why he didn’t just embrace her memory. She loved the restaurant, so why let it go?
Nonetheless, she followed her father to Evermore. Once there, she attended school once again. This time for an associate in business management.

Safiye kept her passion alit through cooking for her aunt and her family. But she wanted to share the wonders of Turkish cuisine. So with the help of her aunt, she opened a cafe.
She named it Selin’s Cafe, after her mother.
