Vaeda Ciachetti was born in the middle of summer on June 23rd, 1864 in Aprilia, Italy. When Vaeda was born she came out screaming and red face, the little bits of hair on her small head was bright as fire and her eyes blue as the sky. Her mother and father doted upon their beautiful newborn babe, Vaeda was the only child to Giovanni and his wife Julianna, and as she grew up there was never a moment that their love for her fell short. Vaeda was full of spirit and a wild curiosity that plunged her head first into anything without fear, as a young child she wanted to see everything, to know everything, how things worked and what did they do. She was full of life, a truly happy child; carefree was the most accurate word to describe Vaeda.
Sadly that didn't last long when Vaeda turned just the mere age of eight she showed signs of exceptional talent of fire. That was when her mother began to push Vaeda to tap into fire more and other elements every other initia in their tribe had mastered to perfection. The way Vaeda's mother acted when it was time to study and practice turned her into a whole other person. Giovanni didn't recognize the woman he married, Vaeda couldn't look at her mother anymore, people of their tribe left the room as soon as the mother-daughter duo walked into room. The more and more Julianna pushed the more tense and angry Vaeda got, she would erupt and start fires of great proportions, this scared other tribe members, worried her father, and eerily pleased her mother.
As Vaeda perfected her fire talents, all the while keeping her mother pleased, Giovanni watched on with worrisome and fearful gazes. His heart breaking for his child when two thick lines lived on her back, he had to save his daughter. Fighting with his wife night after night, pleading for her to stop pushing their daughter, it all fell on deaf ears. Julianna wanted their daughter to become something great, monstrous even, Vaeda's talents placed her in the rare-deviant percentile. Julianna knew this and knew what the tribe would ask them to leave, but Julianna had other intentions of solidifying their place. Giovanni ignored the plans and decided to take his child and leave before her phoenix side became something the family could not hide.
This enraged Julianna, so while Giovanni thought he and his young daughter were alone and packing up to flee Aprilia, Julianna waited downstairs to strike. Giovanni hurried down the stairs with his daughter in his arms until the venomous face of his wife stepped in front of the door. All Vaeda remembered that day was a bitter smell, it was cold every time she inhaled. Giovanni set down Vaeda who tightly held onto his leg, peeking up at her mother who snarled, and in a flash went to attack her father. Vaeda ran and hid in the kitchen cupboard as loud crashes and bangs ricochet off the wall, covering her ears to ignore the violent sounds.
Vaeda hummed a small tune to calm herself down too scared to open her eyes or take her small hands off her ears. But when the door of the cupboard swung open and she was dragged from the small space by her shoulder and collided with the wooden floor, Vaeda looked up at her mother in fear. " wicked girl, after everything I taught you!... " Julianna struck her daughter that night. Every night and day after that Vaeda was the victim of her mothers harsh blows, Giovanni Ciachetti was mysteriously murdered Vaeda's light passed on with him. Training to become her mothers personal weapon was torture, each time she failed Julianna would strike, every time Vaeda succeeded Julianna would belittle her. Nothing was good enough for Julianna, Vaeda couldn't take it anymore, she was a shell within in herself so when nightfall came she would run away.
Climbing out of the window Vaeda ran and ran until she reached the fences of the vineyard, climbing as much as she could until her hand gripped the top, holding freedom in her hands only to have it torn from her. A sharp pain stung her shoulders as she fell to the ground with blurred vision two men grabbed and drug her back to her own hell. As darkness over took Vaeda, she could her the sinister laugh of the one person she wished the worst upon. " Wicked girl... what were you thinking? "
Vaeda spent her teen years living in a dark cell, being fed the same meal over and over, marking the walls of the days she was locked down there, using what she could to exercise, some days she was allowed out to train and use her gifts. Guards watched her day in and day out, she used their schedules to tell time, learned their mannerisms to figure out who would be easier to bribe and who would be most likely to pull the trigger on her. Vaeda only saw her mother during training, but would hear her above during the third guard switch. That guard was the one who would pull the trigger, During the fourth switch was when Vaeda spoke up.
Vaeda made up a lie to use the restroom, something the third guard was in charge of, she begged and pleaded and even made herself cry. The guard caved and let her out. Vaeda held onto the bars and used it to slam the guard back ward, grabbing his tranquilizer gun she used it knockout the man. Creeping up the stairs Vaeda trembled and opened up the door peeking out so she could look down the hall. Tip toeing out she snuck down the halls, and made it to the kitchen, her eyes saw the door and she went for it. A guard on the outside shouted out to warn the others before raising his gun to fire but Vaeda used hers first.
A swarm of guards along with her mother came into the house, Vaeda felt the fire within her began to bubble, and with a blood curdling scream flames shot from her hands. Wings erupted from her back and in a blaze like waterfall she flew right from the roof. Julianna cried out for her daughter but Vaeda turned her back and let the home burn to ash. She flew to England, finding a job as a kitchen maid, living in small apartment just above the inn she worked for. When word died down of the fire that took out a whole vineyard Vadea went back to Italy and scrounged around, and there in the village's graveyard laid a mausoleum dedicated to her mother. Her skin crawled and Vaeda quickly ran back into the safety of the woods provided and made her travels back to England.
For the longest Vaeda was able to let her guard down for sometime, she was able to live in peace, make friendships. Saving up all her money allowed her to go to Paris and open a bakery shop with a dear friend, in the year 1912 she met man just about her age who silently cleared up the back for her when night came. In return she left hot tea and a few scones, over time the two had come to form a bond. Vaeda told him a false name, Marie, and she new he had done the same telling her his name was Gregory, both pining from afar but to afraid to relinquish fear and fall first into the deep love the two felt for one another.
One night the Circus came to town and with Vaeda's dearest friend Emily and her fiance they went to the show, it was a magical night, and as they walked home a group of men came to ruin the fun by pointing guns in their directions asking for everything they had. Vaeda felt a switch go off in her and just like a trigger fire came from the palms of her hands. Cries of terror left Emily's lips and her fiance ran to get help, Vaeda look to the man she was in love with and he looked at her in return. Running as fast as her feet could take her Vaeda went home and packed her things, leaving the keys to Emily and a note with her deepest apologies.
As Vaeda went to the docks of England she heard her name being called from such a unforgettable voice. She looked up and was embraced by the man she loved, she placed a small trinket in his hand of a wooden dove and quickly boarded a boat letting it take her far from there. Vaeda spent days on the ship, setting her sights for the new world, when a man much richer than she had ever seen put his sights on her. Vaeda did not like the attention one bit, but Edward was persistent in his advances, for her she finally gave in and agreed to one dinner. Which led to a grave mistake.
Edward's estranged brother, was one of the men who was victim her flames the night after the circus, he had the burns to prove it. Vaeda tried to leave the dining room but the clutches of Edward stopped her, calmly he led her to the outskirts of the boat where Edward embraced her and placed a kiss to her cheek as he literally stabbed her in the back. Followed by a dagger to her heart from his brother and free falling into the cold black water was all she remembered. When Vaeda woke she was wet and laying on a cot of a fisherman's boat. The old man came shuffling in with a hot kettle and some bread with jam. " Oh! Hello dearie, you're up, was beginnin' to think you died on me... hungry? "
Vaeda nodded her head and stood to fast, when she caught herself she held onto a chair that turned to ice, jumping back the old man held her up and shook his head. " Oh my, that is has you in a pickle. " He sat her down and fixed her plate of bread with jam and tin cup of bitter coffee. Daryl was the man who said he found her floating in the water when he threw out his line, he reeled her in with a net and tucked her in. Vaeda was in New York now, Daryl told her she had been here with him for a few days and he knew of someone who could help her with what he called ice hands. Daryl Neilsen, was a retired huntsman who had encountered all sorts of species, he stopped hunting when he fell in love with a woman who was a valkyr. When Vaeda heard this she knew her life was safe, so she stayed and helped contribute as a way to pay her debts.
Vaeda worked as a nanny for a couple families, and was able to get a small place for her and Daryl, it was nice change of scenery and smell. It took a few months for Daryl's friend to come and speak with Vaeda about what she was and how it happened. The man was a Niveis, which is what Vaeda was now, he told her off a place in a growing state called Colorado filled with various species Vaeda stood and went to the kitchen. Daryl said his goodbyes to his friend and Colorado was never spoke of again.
In 1944, Daryl had grown sick, Vaeda packed up the apartment and took them to Pennsylvania, where Vaeda got a job as a waitress in a diner to pay for the doctors who came to extend Darly's life as long as they could. And when Daryl drew his last breath his last words to her were. " Go. Go to Colorado dearie." Vaeda promised she would go and when she did leave Pittsburgh she bounced closer and closer to Colorado, staying in different cities for months at a time until she felt ready to cross those lines.
Vaeda went back to Italy once more, the small village she once knew was now thriving, it made her think of the dreams her father had for the village. Her mother's shrine now held more names of people Vaeda didn't know, when she walked through the new city it didn't feel like home. It felt like a ghost town, held nothing for her. Before she went back to the states Vaeda made one last stop to England, the first place that ever felt like home to her. The Bakery still stood and inside was a young blonde who looked just like Emily, and greeting the customers was Emily who was old now. Vaeda smiled and felt her eyes well up with tears. The old woman turned and met the eyes of Vaeda, who waved and smiled proudly before walking away with a happy smile. But a pang of hurt washed over her, wondering where the man with the false name made it off too.
It was the year 2019 when she finally made it to Colorado, she spent too much of her life hiding from the world, too much time running, too much time avoiding people, too much time not living. When Vaeda finally got to Colorado she spent her time looking around, keeping to herself, it wasn't so bad; The city definitely lived up to the hype. Now all Vaeda could do was only hope for some sort of happy ending.
