Everyone needs a miracle in their lives, at some point in time someone looks up at the sky to make a wish on a star, there is always some sort of fate filled moment throughout time. So when Vidia fell from the sky and landed in a small country of Norway it was one of the moments. Lives were about to change.
Gunther and Eldie were married for over ten long years, it was a one of those grow old together type of love stories that had the struggles where you were glad you got to do it with your soulmate. Eldie had always wanted one thing in life and that was to be a mother. There were several times the gods had blessed her with a child but complications overruled each one, believing she was meant to be a mother Eldie urged her husband to keep trying and they finally had twins a boy and a girl. But the harsh winter took them from her when the twins fell through the icy lake.
Eldie and Gunther spent the following three years after their loss were hard, Eldie slipped into a small depression and Gunther was out on hunting expeditions, when they finally got back to loving one another’s company is when their lives were going to change. Eldie and her husband were out in the front of their small farm, preparing supper for the evening when Eldie looked up at the sky seeing a bright stream of light soaring across the sky. Thinking nothing of it Eldie made a wish, a wish for a child, the light grew brighter and the woman stood in awe. Eldie sworn the gods were answering her prayers. The beam of light got brighter, more bigger, gaining speed. Gunther went to his wife as if to shield her, the ground rattled and the couple looked at each other in surprise. Eldie ran towards the crash site her aging bones screaming in pain as she willed herself to the mysterious object in hopes a child would be there.
Gunther chased his wife calling for her to come back, urging her of possible dangers ahead, but Eldie did not listen. Reaching the crater in the ground Eldie’s now crying eyes say the young girl lying there in a slumber, Eldie stumbled down the hill and crawled to the young girls side, scooping Vidia into her arms and cried to the gods. Gunther stopped when it was his turn to take in the sight. The man was stunned. Watching his wife hold this glowing creature, he was baffled, confused even. He went down to his wife in caution, Eldie looked to him spoke in a joyous tone. “ Husband! The gods, they heard me, they gave us a child, look at her! Radiating beauty… Our child. “ Eldie sobbed and brushed rumble from the sleeping celestial.
Gunther grumbled in distaste, shaking his head at the sleeping girl who matched the sky, he did not believe the gods gave them this girl. He knew better. Gunther knew this was the work of something else. “ No. Eldie No! This is not the work of the gods! This- This creature, this thing is dangerous! We must go now before someone comes looking! Come! “ Gunther spoke in a hushed anger trying to pull his wife from the girl, searching the trees. Eldie fought him off and held the girl tighter.
“ No! Gunther! How dare you speak like that… I do not care who comes or what you say! This my child with or without you. “ Eldie rocked back and forth, her tears still coming.
Gunther huffed and retreated back to his home in a hurry, he knew his stubborn wife would not come willingly and if this creature was the only way to bring his wife home safely then Gunther would bring them both. Going back to the site with a horse and cart Gunther helped Eldie and the still unconscious girl into the cart and rushed home. Gunther carried the girl inside and laid her on a bed, closing up the windows and putting out the fire, watching the trees. Eldie began caring for the girl, washing her skin clean and keeping her warm all the while singing lullabies to her.
The sweet sounds awakened Vidia, fear quickly washed over her and she cowered back into the wall looking around at small house, Gunther froze as he looked back at the girl, Eldie did her best to soothe the frightened Vidia. Holding her hands up Eldie spoke soft and calm, Vidia noticed this and slowly calmed down. “ Shh my child, it is okay you are safe my little flower, shhh… I will take care of you. “ Eldie explained what happened, spoke their names, then turned the questions to Vidia who could not answer a single one. Gunther scoffed in response and accused Vidia for her secrecy, Eldie defended Vidia regardless, who narrowed her eyes at the man who glared at her.
Over the course of the next months Vidia began to help Eldie around the farm, she adapted quickly to it, it surprised Eldia how the girl with no memory was able to live their life so quickly. Gunther however would watch the girl in suspicion, he did not like how she glowed, how she would stare off into space and move things around afterward. Nor did he like how his wife bonded with this supposed gift from the gods, Eldie treated Vidia like her daughter, Gunther had to get rid of this creature. And Gunther’s time came when a group of men on horses came trotting through, Eldie was quick to hide Vidia in the floor of the stables, Gunther however began to rant and rave about the girl from the sky. The men laughed and one man began to search the premises for Vidia to amuse Gunther. Eldie nervously watched on while her husband urged her to hand Vidia over. When the soldier marched to the stables Eldie stepped forward, Gunther knew his wife well and when she looked panicked Gunther acted on this.
“ There, she is there! I do not know where but she is there!. “ Gunther tore the stables apart letting the horses run free without a care, dust fell into the crack of the floor and Vidia coughed a fit. Gunther and the soldier lifted the boards and dragged Vidia out, other men came rushing to them and gasped in awe of her glowing skin. Gunther ripped the sleeve of her blouse, revealing a mark. “ See! The mark of the sky! “ Eldia sobbed and rushed to pry the hands of the men off her child. Gunther pushed her back, as soldiers dragged Vidia along with them, tying her up and pulling her along as the rode off without a word. Vidia sobbed, and tried to pull back to Eldie held by Gunther screamed for her child, the soldier pulled and made Vidia stumble until her crying eyes could not see the farm or Eldie.
Vidia was taken to a city, people looked on in awe, whispered and followed as she was dragged through the town to a large castle, a soldier lifted up a kicking and screaming Vidia and carried into the castle. The journey seemed forever but Vidia looked around as much as she could for any sign of a way out. Workers there watched in pity and women in fancy dresses looked on in horror. Vidia was dropped onto her side and looked up at the soldier in distaste before she heard a man clear his throat. Looking behind her she saw a young man, an old woman, and young child who was held by a young woman who was just around her age.
“ And who is this? “ The young man spoke.
“ A girl who fell from the sky my lord, a villager named Gunther handed her over. “ the soldier spoke.
The young man knelt down and looked at Vidia, who leaned away, the young man smiled and stood. “ Your name girl? “ Vidia looked up at him and spat on his shoes. The onlookers gasped in horror except the old woman, Vidia was dragged to her feet and down to a prison, she was there for days and days. Vidia hummed the lullabies Eldie would sing to her, until she spoke silently to herself. “ Vidia Vittori… girl from the sky… “ She silently let tears fall until a elegant voice spoke through.
“ Beautiful name for a beautiful girl. “ The old woman from what Vidia knew as the shiny room. She was let in by guards and took a seat on the stool, Vidia stayed in her corner until a guard brought a plate of food and water, Vidia wasted no time to eat it. The old woman frowned and spoke. “ My name is Moira de Fanti and I was very young when I saw someone with your skin my darling, oh she was such a lovely soul indeed. I was going to die, these men came and raided my home, one took a dagger and stabbed me… But my Reyna, my sister saved me. I never saw her again but I remember her, you my sweet Vidia are special. “ The old woman smiled and touched the hair on Vidia’s head before lifting her up and hugging her gently. “ I will take you with me and keep you safe just like Reyna. “
Vidia left the castle with raged filled eyes on her, looking back Vidia knew she was in danger, but how she would never know.
Years went by and Vidia was kept safe just like Moira promised, and on her death bed Moira made sure it would continue on as such, Vidia was left with all of Moira’s riches, Vidia had a small group of people she trusted but still Vidia did not feel safe without Moira. Which is why Vidia left and went back to the first home she had, Vidia looked at the farm in fondness going up to it Vidia wanted to hear the humming of Eldia but only heard the cursing of Gunther. Vidia walked in with bitterness and anger, the now aged man looked at the girl he sent away and dropped his belongings. “ Where is she Gunther? Where is Eldie? “ Gunther looked away and sat down. Laughing came from him the sobbed.
“ She died, she got sick after you left and nothing could save her not even the gods, not your people. “ Gunther grabbed a cup and chugged it down. “ I am so sorry I kept you apart, she said her heart broke and then she died. “
Vidia turned and ran before falling to her knees and screaming into the air, a burst of energy came from her and her fists pulled grass from the earth. Vidia felt her heart break, in that moment she wanted to die as well.
Life after that was nothing to Vidia, she went back to Europe to the home Moira gave her only to see it burned to ash, and the flag of the man who held her prisoner. Vidia lived on the streets after that, stealing and living where ever she could lay her head, one night as she was sleeping the soldiers of the man she knew all those years ago came storming in, raiding the home she and other people shared. Vidia tried to escape, she ran and ran until two soldiers rounded her up and drug her back to what was her own personal hell. The man named Henry, greeted her at the gates, he was older now and Vidia still spat at him, he locked her up and visited her until she would cooperate which Vidia made sure he knew would be never. Still Henry made Vidia a slave, she lived on like this for years, with no way out, Vidia was taunted and thrown around like a dogs stick.
Vidia remembered a man who looked at her with a knowing expression, he approached her that night in the kitchen and offered her help to escape, Vidia took it devising her own plan to leave him after he got her out. In the dead of night Vidia met the man, who gave her a horse and a small dagger in case she needed it. Oddly Vidia trusted him just a bit when he placed the belt and dagger around her waist, it was then soldiers chased them down causing an all out hunt for Vidia, neighboring towns and cities under Henry’s rule were looking for Vidia. When Vidia and the stranger who’s name she did not care to learn found refuge in a caves and pup’s for weeks until it was safe, Vidia started to fall for the man and that is when she knew had to leave despite how good her life seemed in that moment. Vidia slept soundly one night, waking up before dawn to sneak away from the stranger leaving a ruby stone ring behind as a token of gratitude. But as she snuck away the man woke grabbing her and begging her to stay, and Vidia held the dagger to his throat. Making a run for it Vidia got on her horse and rode until she was far, far away from her what would be the end of an era.
Years and Years went by until Vidia settled down, Vidia finally had peace, she lived in a small town in Scotland with a neighbor named Colin, he was a widow and had two daughters, Eliza and Coraline. They watched out for each other, it was a life she was used to, it was then when Vidia was in the towns market when a woman with dark hair approached, at first Vidia thought she was dreaming. The woman had skin that glowed like hers, she introduced herself as Ophelia and Vidia led the woman to her home where she learned what she was; a celestial. It made sense to her and there was a place for people them and when Vidia heard there was more people like her Vidia had to see it. Ophelia and Vidia left the next morning, saying goodbye to Colin and his children and went to the Isle of Skye where people of all sorts of species lived, it was mind blowing for Vidia. She stayed and learn from Ophelia how to harness her untapped potential, Vidia learned of the deal with the Aspects, she didn’t like favor them that much but they offered protection and that was good enough for Vidia. But all that was short lived when she was snatched and put in a cage, Vidia fought back as much as she could but was overpowered, angry Vidia made it a point to let the Isle know with her screams and throwing bread and cups at anyone who walked in.
When Ophelia was presumed dead Vidia nearly broke and gave in to begging pleading to be free, over time she willed herself to survive as long as she could, when her wayfinder returned to save her and the others, Vidia ran and didn’t look back until the Isle fell. Vidia lived on with the others not daring to be on her own as she was accustomed to, when they journeyed to Evermore Vidia would make it a point to seek revenge on her captors she was tired of being a prisoner and wanted a life she was never given.
