Name: Xu Lou (English name: Lou Xu)
Age: 156, looks 21
Species: Nephilim
Face claim: Park Seonghwa
The mountain ranges of the himalayas hide many hidden things. Xu Lou was born in a hidden nephilim tribe on what is now the plateau of Tibet. His parents were the village herbalists so he spent a large a large portion of his childhood in the hills with them picking through the vegetation looking for medicinal herbs for the tribe. He was all set to follow in his parents footsteps until his destiny was changed overnight by a ruin appearing on his ankle when he turned eight years old. In his tribe and the other mountain nephilim someone was destined to be the protector, one that would become immortal and fight to keep the village safe if anything were to attack them. The symbol that appeared marked Lou as the villages future protector and he was sent up the mountain to be a disciple of the one they called the War Angel.
Lou’s life on the mountain was very simple. They had simple robes and ate simple meals all the while training their bodies and minds to be warriors. The other disciples became his brothers while he was on the mountain and over the years he became quite close to them. It was sad when one of them felt ready to leave them to complete their final task. The task was the final test the disciples had to pass to prove they were ready to be their tribes protector. None of the disciples knew what the test was and none ever returned.
Lou had just turned twenty when he knew it was time for him to ask the master for the final task. He’d lain away watching the moon make its way across the sky and it was like the wind was whispering to him that the time was now. He’d risen from his cot and approached the masters chambers and had meditated for a full two days with the mysterious man before the ancient nephilim had given him the task. The task was simple, kill a dragonkin and gain immortality. The master told him it was and all or nothing kind or deal. Fail to complete the task and you would die but complete it and you would have the ultimate defence when it came to protecting your tribe.
It took Lou three months to even track down a dragonkin. He didn’t know much about them so had spent a lot of time studying people to try to distinguish one from the other supernaturals that lived on the plateau. When he had finally pinpointed one he took his time to watch the creature and learn it’s habits before even attempting to make a plan. In the end he watched for almost a full year before he struck. It was in broad daylight in the middle of a busy market when he ended the dragonkins life. He didn’t say around to watch the chaos that descended on the market, quickly retreating back into the mountains, back towards his tribe.
Lou knew there was something wrong when he finally reached his village. There were no sounds of life as he approached. The eerie silence chilled him to the bone as he stepped through what had once been the guarded front gate. The traditional style houses that stood around the village were either crumbling or burnt to the ground and the place was deserted. Lou was distraught to discover a makeshift graveyard in what he remembered to be the middle of the village. The graves were old, the ground had settled and the markers well weathered and Lou knew that whatever had happened had happened years ago. Lost and alone Lou stumbled through the mountains to the next village where he collapsed and didn’t wake for three days.
When he finally did wake it was in an unfamiliar place but he did recognise the frail woman who was sitting beside his bedside holding his hand. He remembered she’d run the school in his tribe when he was younger but he didn’t remember her looking so defeated. “Aunty,” he’d whispered, his lips dry and cracked from disuse and she’d clucked his hand with a strength that would have crushed a mortal's hand. “He betrayed us,” she’d said with such venom it almost frightened Lou, “and you’re going to kill him.”
He’d been too weak to move that first day but some of the villagers told him the full story of what had happened to his tribe, the protector had sold them out. Originally they had managed to capture him but he’d burned down his own prison and escaped. Only the old woman had survived the attack and only because part of the school had fallen on her. The villagers had treated her wounds and nursed her back to health but she never spoke a word since the day they had pulled her out of the rubble.
When he had regained his strength Lou prepared himself for the mission his old school master had given him. It was like he was preparing for his final task all over again only this time he knew exactly who he was hunting. His prey may have had ten years of a head start but Lou was very good at hunting. It may have taken him over a hundred years with many close calls and near misses but he had finally tracked the betrayer to a city called Evermore and Lou knew this is were his mission would end and his tribe would finally have peace.
