Siobhan had made it home safely the night before much more sober than she was a few hours ago. She found herself in bed placing an alarm on for early in the morning. Spending the night tossing and turning as she tried to figure out what to expect from this new job that was being offered to her. She wondered what he would expect of her. Would he be able to meet these expectations she wonder. At some point sleep took hold of her and she awoke the the blare of the early alarm. Whacking the alarm clock with her hand she sat up in the empty bed looking over to the spot that she wished Dominic would have been there, but that wasn’t the cards at this moment.

As she dragged herself from the bed and to the shower she quickly bathed and found her way trying on a few different options for outfits to work for Jon. She had no clue what the job was to even be so she wasn’t sure if she should dress overly professional or if she should be able to move quickly. She almost threw all the clothes across the room giving up before she chose to wear a pale pink blouse with a pale blue skirt, nude heels completing the look though she was never very good at walking in them. Choosing to pack a work out outfit just incase she had read everything wrong in Jon statement.

Placing the bag on her shoulder she found her way to the building the Jon had mention, leaving earlier enough so if she got lost among the building she would have plenty of time to find it. Though finding the building wasn’t as hard as she thought it might have been. Standing in the lobby for a moment looking around as she took in the brilliant structure of the building before moving to the reception area. “Hi I am here to meet Jonathan,” she stated to the receptionist “It’s my first day and I am not sure what I should be doing.” she said honestly to the woman behind the desk.

Several morning meetings, a quick bite of breakfast, followed by a scan of reports and staff reviews, and all before 7 am. It was a typical morning though today he had other things to deal with, such as the beginning of a new journey for his friend. After last night he wasn’t sure if she was going show up, her hesitancy had been clear but the opportunity would have been a hard one to pass up for anyone. His impression had been that she needed a place to fit in and something to call her own. An occupation that would challenge her and allow her to strive for her own goals.

Stepping into the elevator Jonathan hit the button for the lobby, checking his watch habitually and more for something to do as he was forced to stay still. Taking a breath and being stationary wasn’t his forte, he was constantly moving and constantly needing something to do. The exception was when he was stalking prey but even then he was engaged in some sort of activity. Relaxation was foreign to him and an uncomfortable waste of time, or at least he felt so. Why would he sit and do nothing when there was so much he could be doing and accomplishing? Finally, the elevator dinged, the doors silently opening with a flourish of golden well-oiled tracks.

Strolling out he offered a smile to the employees milling past him, each recognizing him as he made it a point to know his people and to ensure his people knew him. Being one of those silent unknown and larger than life bosses was not his style, he was far more hands-on and in the thick of things. Walking over to the front desk a wide smile spread across his face, spotting the young Nephilim dressed in her business best. She cleaned up nicely and looked antzy yet resigned. Reaching out he took her hand, shaking it firmly, “I wasn’t sure if you would show up. Glad that you did.” Releasing her he stepped back and waved her towards the elevator banks. “Come. First day and lots of things to do.”

Once she was next to him he offered her his arm, letting her tuck her hand into his elbow. Once they were at the elevator’s he punched the button for level 5 and waited for a free bank. “First is training. Mandatory for all new employees. They are boring but necessary for business and insurance. Then we will get you some systems training after lunch and I’ll show you to your desk.”

Siobhan watched the employees arrive with coffees in hand. She rubbed her palms together the wounds from the night before healing over already.  She was worried what she was wearing was wrong as everyone was walking in where wearing darker colors. She looked down to her soft powder pink blouse, smoothing her hand over it as she waited. She turned around facing him as his deep voice filed her ears offering him a smile. “I am not one to turn down a challenge especially if it comes in the form of a job.” She took hold of his hand giving it a firm shake just like her father taught her.

She fell into step behind him as he lead her over to the Elevators, hooking her arm into the one he offered knowing it would be the easiest way to keep up with him. As they entered the Elevator she dropped hold of his arm lacing her fingers together as she looked  up to him. Siobhan was use to having to look up to be since she only stood at five foot two even and since she couldn’t wear overly high heels it was only another two inches added.

“Is this the time I should point out I have never held a real job of any kind?” she asked looking back to the elevator doors at her reflection. “I have a social security card thanks to Cornelia because she learned that I didn’t even have that. So…” she spoke of his sister easily after all she as the nephilim ambassador but she hated asking for help it was a toxic trait of hers she wanted to do everything on her own. “Can you, or one of your employees maybe help me with the paperwork side of things? This will be my first job that didn’t just pay me in cash.”

She turned her head to the side “How does that even work? How does one not get paid in cash?” it was clear she was innocent to most things in the world, some would look at her an underestimate her. Yet if you showed her something or gave her a task she would try her hardest to do it and do it right not afraid to ask questions. She looked down ashamed for a moment even having to ask for help. “I don’t want to make excuses since I know you are a very straightforward man. I grow up on a farm so I am still adapting to city life and these ways, but I can promise you I am going to work my damnedest to make you proud.” at the end she looked up to him with her light blue eyes.

The smile on his face grew a little bit wider watching her in the midst of the rest, she stuck out like a bright and clean thumb. Instead of having been beaten into a much more dull and subdued version of herself, trying to blend in with all the rest she was standing out amidst the crowd. Many of his people were still learning that it was alright to exert some individuality, years of being among the masses had cowed them into being just another member of the pack. It was his mission to find the alpha's and pull them back out and into being themselves once again. You could see the ones he was having more success with, the people who were strutting down the halls in their own style with their heads held high despite the glances and whispers they drew. Siobhan would be among them if he had anything to say about it.

"Good." He answered with a grin, guiding her onto an elevator. The moment the doors to the elevator closed them in together she started talking, once again pointing out that this was her first real job and that with his sister's help she had been able to get a social security card. Chuckling he turned to the female, "Relax. Maggie has already tracked down all your information, all you will need to do is sign some paperwork." His head of HR had once been a private investigator and a damn good one at that. There was nothing and no one she couldn't find.

The elevator opened onto a quieter floor and he gestured for her to exit, then stepped off after once more offering his arm. This time he kept his pace slower so that they would have time to talk as he led her down a long hallway. "As for payment and banks we will come up with three or four good options for you, credit unions or local banks that don't charge for debit cards or savings accounts and you can choose which one you want to use. Maggie will help you get your account set up and then you will get paid through direct deposit. She can even teach you how to pay bills online and keep track using our software." He kept his voice gentle as he lead her into a room that for the moment was empty, he knew this whole process was going to overwhelming so he wanted to be as involved as possible in the process.

Turning to look at her Jon took both of her hands in his, "I know you haven't had these opportunities but that doesn't mean you aren't able. You are smart and capable and can do so much. With some guidance and work, you will be working independently in no time at all. Let me and my people help. We will take it one step at a time and fit each piece to the other, like a puzzle." He bought her hands up to kiss her knuckles gently, before dropping them hitting an intercom button to summon Maggie.

"I'll be back in an hour to check on you. Relax and breathe." He turned around and left just as the redhead entered, walking away with every intention of returning in exactly 60 minutes. While he headed to his meeting he put in a call to his temporary assistant to draw up a few banking options and have them on his desk within the hour.

Siobhan looked up to Jon with her big blue eyes as he told her to relax. Relaxing wasn’t something that came easy to the young nephilim. She had grown used to being on edge with everything as of late. “Right, relax, breath Siobhan.” she muttered as she folded her hands together nervously, taking a deep breath as she looked to the deep metallic metal doors of the elevator. She at this point was sure he was about ready to kick the young Nephilim to the curb but her nervousness only seemed to cause the male to chuckle at her.

As the elevator came to a stop she stepped out of it, her heels clicking on the cold marble floor as she looked from side to side taking his arm as he offered it. She was thankful for that as she was still getting used to heels. Growing up on a farm gave little time for such girly things, so having him to keep her upright was more than helpful. “Thank you.” was all she could say as he seemed to be far more understanding of who she was then the night before where he was telling her that what was happening to her was her fault. She looked around the empty room before him as he took hold of her hands.

She searched his eyes taking in his kind words for the moment and she gave him a soft smile “Okay who are you and what have you done with the man who saved me from an alleyway last night?” she teased him as she watched him kiss her knuckles all of a sudden unsure what to do with her hands as he dropped them. She folded her hands together and nodded “See you in an hour.” She gave a wave watching him walk out of the room to meet a red haired woman who seem to own a room when she walked into. ‘Relax and breathe.’ she repeated in her head as she held her hand out to the woman. “I’m Siobhan Leslie.”

Siobhan was set up to watch some videos she was sure most people found boring and yet she found herself captivated by the information about the company and departments and how the inner structure worked. She found herself taking in as much info as she could, taking  notes not even sure if she was supposed too. When an hour had passed, she stood up and stretched walking over to the window as she looked out it, taking in the view from being so high up. She wondered if she would ever be able to master flying so high. That made her mind wonder to Dominic and wondering what he was doing. She couldn’t even recall the last time he sent her a text.

She missed him, and she wished she knew why he was pushing her way like he was. As she was reaching for her phone to text him just to see if he was alive, the door opened and she smiled to Jon. “You are a few minutes past the hour mark.” she said as she looked to the watch on her delicate wrist. “Do you mind me asking.” she pulled out all the jobs the video listed. “What job is it I am going to be doing?” she asked holding up the list as she looked to him with a smile. “Well besides CEO unless you are looking for a replacement.” she laughed songfully.

This Siobhan was much different than the one he had met the night before. Instead of reckless and high strung she was nervous and unsure of herself, more reserved and observant which was more attuned and appropriate for the situation. It surprised Jon, the effect her appearance had on him the moment she had appeared in her business best with that little smile on her face. The soft pastel colors accentuated her coloring and brought out the soft blue of her eyes while the heels she wore, though unsteady on her feet made her look tall and elegant. She looked less like a businesswoman and more like a prim princess sweeping into the building to survey her subjects rather than initiating her first day of work. Giving her a gentle smile at her soft words of appreciation they walked together to the human resource section and discovered that she needed more than the usual orientation that was required for her.

Chuckling at her small joke he left her in the capable hands of Maggie who look over with getting her initial training underway. His temporary assistant Stacy was given her marching orders and then Jon himself was off to a meeting with his accounting department to ensure that the numbers for the company were all still in the green. He had some ideas for a non-profit and he wanted some pitches for how to funnel some money towards that endeavor as well as where they could direct other funds towards improving the culture around the office. Thankfully the meeting was productive and they got a lot done, which was more than he could have hoped for. Sometimes where money was concerned things got sticky and complicated but he made it perfectly clear with his people that money was just paper and if they worked hard enough more could be found or made.

On his way back to Siobhan he scooped up the banking packing from Stacy and traversed the couple flights of stairs down to HR. Ambling through the door he gave the blonde a quirky grin, glancing at the clock with a slightly raised eyebrow and a shrug, “Two minutes in order to grab the bank information I promised. I would hope you can forgive me for that.” He shot her a playful wink, getting an affirmative nod of Maggie to ensure that Siobhan was done with all of the boring stuff they could get to the actual job stuff. He burst out laughing at her question, sliding into a seat across the table from her and setting the packet of information down for the time being. “I like that you are shooting high but I’m not sure you can tackle being CEO just yet. Though I have no doubt that you will rise through the ranks in no time at all.”

Jonathan crossed his legs and sat back in his chair, regarding her for a moment before he answered. “I need an assistant. Someone to keep my calendar, to take notes and memos when I request it during meetings, field phone calls, and generally be my right-hand person.” He could have gone into more detail but he wanted to know what she thought about the information he had given her. Of course, there was a lot more entailed in her job and it would be a whole lot more involved and detailed oriented but for the time being that was all he was going to give her.

Siobhan took in the man across from her as she pulled her gaze away from window and her thoughts of her life. Her eyes moved to the banking information in his hand and she moved closer. “I am only messing with you. This is your company after all. I am sure you are needed more than to help me with paperwork.” She chuckled at the playful wink and looked to Maggie with a smile as she took hold of the banking information. She opened the packet as she looked at the names of the banks around the city that would help her get the information set up and actually become a working member of the city. She listened to his laugh and gave a soft smile. It was so much different from the man the night before who was angry with her for her drunken state.

“To be honest with you, I am not sure I will ever be cut out to be CEO. I couldn’t handle having people's well being in my hands. I can barely hold my own well being in my own hands.” She said as she said as she ran her fingers along the paperwork in the folder that was in her hands giving him a nervous look. That self doubt of herself like a black monster holding onto her throat. It was almost as if she could visualize the smoke monsters that haunted her. She wondered if she made a mistake by showing up here. Like she could have a normal life.

She lowered herself into the chair from across his desk from him as he spoke of what her job was going to be. She let out a soft sigh as she looked to his desk for a moment. “So you want me to be your personal assistant? Me?” she looked back up to him with a raised eyebrow. “Did you hit your head last night?” She asked as she sat the packet of information back on the desk between them. “I barely was able to hold my life together. I can’t work one of those stupid rectangles for the life of me.” She motioned to his phone that was on the desk. “About the only thing I am going to be good for when it comes to you is note taking.”

She was really skilled t being able to write what people where saying as the spoke. “Why offer me this job? I don’t understand what you think you see in me Jon.” She said as she leaned her head to the side as she looked to him for a long moment. “It's going to take so much more of your time and effort to train me. Time and effort I don’t think you have.” She stood up and walked around the desk and held her hand to him. “I thank you for seeing something in me Jon but I don’t want you to waste your time.” She swallowed back tears that threaten to touch her eyes. “I think maybe I should return to the woods or farm life where I belong. I have never been a city girl.”

She seemed to look over the paperwork he gave her with some trepidation, despite her best efforts to put on a brave face. Her teasing was light-hearted and yet he sensed some serious reservations lurking in her tone. Jonathan had seen the look in her eyes a few times and heard that slight tremor as well, his lips turning up in a kind smile. “Nonsense. Paperwork of this kind is easy, far easier than some of the junk on my desk.” He shot another wink and nod as Maggie excused herself, heading out to accomplish some other task as he took charge.

Listening to her confession the Nephilim sat back in his chair, wondering what exactly was going through her mind. Last night she had seemed gung-ho about starting this job, had shown up this morning dressed to impress, and now after one hour of orientation type things she seemed less sure of herself. Rolling his eyes at her self recriminations he shook his head, “I think you are capable of more than you know.” It was the same story with all of the people like her that he had hired, getting through the self-doubt was harder than the training.

More criticism upon herself followed, bringing up his own judgment in hiring her and the skills she lacked in her own mind. Though the job description he had laid out might seem intimidating at first he had no doubt that she was capable of handling it all. Siobhan simply needed a chance and to give herself a fair amount of grace. Before he could realize what was happening the blonde had risen and came around to offer him her hand, condolence no doubt before she walked out the door and gave up on herself altogether.

Letting out a soft sigh Jonathan shook his head and rose, “Come with me.” Ensuring that she was indeed following him, the male took her down a series of steps, turning into an office space filled with cubicles. Each one was decorated according to the owners' tastes and interest, some had standing desks while others were outfitted with ergonomic chairs. Each person was busy at their stations, sending or receiving calls as their job descriptions allowed. He walked slowly keeping his voice pitched low so that only Siobhan could hear, “The lady at the end there is Lucy, she came here from a homeless shelter 2 years ago. She’d never had a job before this one, her husband was killed while serving and after he passed she was left with nothing.” They walked a little farther down the line where he pointed to a man with only one leg, “That’s Jose. He was injured while serving and wasn’t able to work. He’s been here for 4 years now and has since adopted his grandson.”

They walked further, allowing for stops here and there so that Jonathan could show Siobhan that she wasn’t the first person he had taken in with very little to no experience. Once they got to the end of the room he looked at her straight in the face and shook his head, “If you want to leave that’s your prerogative. However, it will be purely your decision and only because you have no wish to try to make this job work.” His tone was deadly serious, “I have all the time in the world, the question is do you have the drive?”
