Learning to look after yourself is something Kaelyn learnt from a young age. Never having anyone caring for her. Nobody that matters. Just her. At the orphanage where she grew up nobody really cared for her, just wanted her for her powers. For her mind. Always being the best thinker. One to come up with different plans and strategies on the spot. Quick on her feet. Making Kaelyn a natural when it came to learning how to be a con artist. Back then it started off as a way the orphanage did to get money. Training the children of how to pick pocket, steal a few valuables so they can then sell it off for money. Using them for their own advantage. Kaelyn not knowing the full extent of all before she turned 18 where it all came into light. Finding out what she is. It all making sense, why she always felt like an outcast all her life. Not being the same species as everyone else. To when first finding her powers the people at the orphanage started to ‘use’ her for her abilities so she could become an asset. Where in reality it was so Kaelyn could help them into bigger cons, for more money. Leaving there soon as she could, escape it.
Kaelyn’s childhood and life was far from a fairy tale. Choosing to live a lonely life. As the years pass the Instar Diviner feels that she’s losing hope. Is this all her purpose is? To live a life alone. Stealing from the rich so she can then feed and fend for herself. Not having a stabile or normal income as everyone else. Moving ever so often to escape the prying eyes of those around her. Like many people of the supernatural does. A never ending cycle. It was one of the downfalls for being an immortal, wishing that she could have a normal human life. To age normally and one day die. Now Kaelyn was thinking what is the point of it all. It wasn’t so bad now. After meeting Riley, things started to change for the better. So Kaelyn’s not feeling so alone now. Company. It was a strange thing after spending many years alone. Refreshing. Even with all of Riley’s personality and habits so to speak, used to it by now. Her mind often wondered to what if could have been like if she agreed to talk to her cousin. To hear him through. Find out of her past, the reason why her parents abandoned her when she was just a baby. Maybe Kaelyn was afraid to admit that she was scared of abandonment. Thinking that she’d let him in and he’d then leave. Used to people leaving on her. Always feeling that she was never wanted.
It was getting darker this time of the afternoon. Making it easier to go out an pickpocket a few people. Since they can’t see you coming along with it being rush hour. Everyone hurrying back to go home. It’s more harder to do it in broad daylight so she tried to do it at a time where it’s too dark to see. The Redhead had already had pick pocketed a few people going onto one of the lasts for the night. Enough money to pay for some days worth of food. As Kaelyn was reaching her hand into the males back pocket grasping the wallet to slip it out, for the person not to notice. She suddenly felt a strong grip grasping onto her list as she was brought to a halt too. Feeling a the male twisted her around so they could face one another. She took a large gulp as she looked into his eyes, full of shock knowing too well she'd been caught. Sensing the man was someone more than a normal mundane. “You have the right to remain silent and refuse to answer questions. Anything you say may be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to consult an attorney before speaking to the police and to have an attorney present during questioning now or in the future.” The words echoed from the male, the typical speech used when arresting people. Able to know what was ahead of her and happening now. She was being arrested, pick pocketed the wrong person.
What happened next all happened in a blur. The Instar Diviner knew too well not to act out or try to provoke. Offering her hands out to the police officer before he would force her hands behind her wrists. Hearing as he made some calls before being guided to his car, seeing as he was officer off duty. It weren’t too long till she was guided to the front desk before taken to a room so some documents could be done. Along with her fingerprints to be taken so it could be documented. Searched where they were able to find some cash she had stolen, along with some cards and her phone. Vaguely remembering before being forced to have a mugshot taken. Holding of a sign with her name, inmate number. As it was getting later, it would mean everything would be moved till tomorrow. Leaving the Redhead to be locked inside a prison cell for the night. Taking her back to the nights in the orphanage in the small room, similar bars on the windows. Leaving her alone with only her thoughts keeping herself company. Blaming herself for how foolish she was. All these years having a clean streak and now she'd been caught. It was even too late to call anyone.
Her thoughts went to Riley, would she notice that she was gone. Would she come looking for her. Tracking her by her scent and all. Kaelyn weren’t too sure. All night she spent trying to think of what to say to the police officers. How could she explain what she does. Along with the documental details. Would they be able to see that they were forged. It weren’t till morning when one of the prison guards told her she was able to make a phone call. Kaelyn had no one to ring. The modern day was still strange for Riley. Whereas she had no other friends to call. A name came into her head. One she had been pondering whether or not it’ll be a good idea to contact. Would he answer her call or shut it down just like to before when she practically slammed the door into his face. The Redhead was guided to one of the phones, lined up behind people. Waiting to take her turn. Watching as the room full of strangers had their eyes on her. Thinking she didn’t belong here, looking out of place. It was true. She was out of place and hated it there. Not wanting to stay any longer than she has to.
When it came to her turn, Kaelyn started at the numbers on the phone. Was she ready to call the only family she had left. To grovel at his feet. In fear she would be locked up. Knowing already it can be a long sentence if all her crimes she’s committed throughout the years from stealing comes out. Taking a deep breath she pressed the numbers into the phone. Having memorised it before from the piece of paper he had given her when they last met. To when he tried to persuade him to talk to him. Kaelyn memorised the numbers, stuck in a constant battle whether to listen to him through. Now it was happening, not the way she’d expected it to be live. As people says there's no time like present. The wait was antagonising as she waited for an answer. For the call to be directed through. Hoping he hadn’t changed his number over the years.
It weren’t too long till she heard a confused hello through the other side of the line. Ready to face her fears. “Wyatt it's me Kaelyn. I’ve messed up and I really need your help. Please come to Evermore City Police station. I promise I’ll tell you more then I’ll hear you out” She pleaded, letting him hear the fear in her voice. Afraid to be stuck in there for any longer. Promising she’d make it all up if he helps to get her out of here. The anticipation of waiting was worst. Would he bail her out or leave her here, that was the big question.

Wyatt kicked and flailed, but the man that held him was unmoving. The giant was over seven feet tall and built like a house. The world was turning fuzzy as his breath shallowed from the chokehold. Wyatt tried to gain as much magical strength as he could and conjured up an electrical current through his hands, gripping onto the man's arm. It should've sent a charge straight through his skin. No one should be able to stand the pain, if only for a moment for Wyatt to get away. Still, nothing seemed to work. The diviner wondered if this beast was magically protected by the man that was currently moving in on Kaelyn.
His cousin was still trapped in the daze he imagined resembled much of what he looked like once the grimoire had come into his hands the first time. Whatever long lost relative from the Dark Ages, or enemy of, created this book, it's curse continued on. "K-Kae.." he choked out once more in his last attempt at reaching through to her and finally it seemed she became lucid to the world around her. The surge she sent out knocked the behemoth sideways and Wyatt was free. The problem was the ricochet of the hit also went through Wyatt. He collapsed onto his knees and gasped for air, but the cough that came up spilled blood out onto the floor. The searing pain in his side started then and he realized he at least had a couple of broken ribs from the telekinetic hit which was backed by the book. A few more coughs and gasps came from his chest and the blood continued to pour out before he wiped his mouth with the back of his sleeve. His eyes went over to his assailant who remained unconscious. He couldn't even tell if the man was alive or not then.
Wyatt shakily stood with an arm wrapped around his aching midsection, falling backward against the wall for support as he watched the scene unfold. Her ex glanced over towards Wyatt with not even the slightest bit of concern before turning his focus on Kaelyn. He felt completely drained from the hit he took, but Wyatt wasn't about to let his cousin go up against the man that had been harassing them for weeks now alone. It seemed her former lover then noticed the grimoire in Kaelyn's hands which made him stop a few feet in front of her. Wyatt guessed the man could feel its power rolling off of Kaelyn which seemed to make him falter in whatever plan he had for her. In the distraction, Wyatt forced himself to slowly move now that the two of them were finally face to face. His eyes went to the other remaining boxes in the room where plenty of magical artifacts still sat and could possibly help in the fight now that he was barely functioning from the magical hit. Each small movement made him grimace, but he inched his way every few moments in hopes he'd find something that could help. First, they would deal with this asshole and then he'd have to somehow convince his cousin that every moment she touched the book, the more its infection would ruin her as it did him. One crisis at a time though.
There used to be a time when she knew that she was falling into a trap. It was no secret that they had walked straight into the hands of their enemy. It was what the people who were after them wanted. Both of the Diviners were too blinded by seeking out who was after to see that they were slipping up. It used to be them being two steps ahead but now it was the other way around, taking two steps back. Blinded by their frustration to open their eyes fully to what was happening around them To see it's what their enemy were wanting all along and they were foolish to take the bait. Now the Diviner had felt herself being trapped in the hold and the power of the dark magic from the grimoire was too strong for her to stop and say no to. It was too late for her now. From the moment that she first set eyes and opened it up it was too late. Being vulnerable is an easy target. Kaelyn wasn’t the first and won’t be the last from her bloodline to be affected by the book. Last time around it was her saving Wyatt from the darkness. Now the tables would be turned around. Accepting the fact that she was already lost it’s already got the hold on her.
Nothing was easy for them. Kaelyn was still frozen in a trance almost as the book was taking its hold on her. Whilst Wyatt was getting his ass kicked by a giant who was unmatched for him. She was letting him down by getting trapped and not being able to help him. Not even the calls from her cousin was enough to snap her out of the trance but when she did she did more damage than good. Watching as Wyatt too got hurt when she was trying to help seeing as he collapsed to his knees and coughed a bit of blood. “Oh shit, I’m sorry Wyatt I didn’t mean for you to get hurt” She gasped in horror seeing the damage and physical pain that she did to her cousin by accident. Kaelyn hadn’t meant to use that amount of power at once; it just came out of her. Something that she’s not able to control.
Now Kaelyn was stood face to face by an old enemy of her past. Lovers that were turned to enemies from the moment she opened her eyes to see who he was really was. Then she spent years on the run trying to escape thinking he was long gone. Now she was finding that all along he was waiting to seek his revenge and attack when she was most vulnerable. “Hello Red, it’s been a while” Kaelyn tried her best not to make eye contact. “I see that you’ve made yourself a home here in this city. A coven leader at that? I never thought to see you as the leader type. We both know that you're the loner type, the one who takes off not one to get attached to. Yet it seems that changed or that others have made you changed” He taunted moving ever so closer to her. Kaelyn could see that he motioned over to Wyatt when saying how others made her change. “You’ve finally found your family I see” Kaelyn tried her best to stay quiet and grit her teeth but he had no right to bring her cousin into this.
“Don’t you dare go near him. You are only here for me, leave him out of this” She growled feeling protective of her family. “Don’t worry sweetheart, I am only here for you. I’ve spent years trying to track you down. I’m not going to let you out of my sight. I want you to pay for what you took from me. You can say goodbye to your life here, you are mine once again. We can go back to our old life where I’m in control” The Diviner felt anger start to bubble up inside her more and more as he was threatening her. Until she couldn’t take it anymore she started to see red. “Noo!!” She rasped pushing him away almost but she felt his tight grasp around her wrist. “I said no!” She screamed as she exploded at the thought of being trapped once again by the one person who still haunts her years on.
All of the anger and darkness inside her was bubbling up until it was too late for what she was about to do. Her eyes looked down at the book she was still holding in her hands then back up to him. “We are forgetting who has the power here” A smirk appeared on her lips as she felt a surge of power take over. All around her tecnicos were going off books and objects were flying about everywhere, glass shattering the lights were all flickering. “You won’t be able to hurt me or anyone else again” She snarled as the dark power was taking over. Kaelyn used her magic to attack and hurt him, as each moment passed the further she pushed her power until it was too late. The more power she was using, the more damage she was doing. Ignoring his screams of pain, blood was running out of his eyes . Kaelyn used her powers to explode the blood vessels in his brain, killing him instantly.
It was all over but she took it too far by killing him. She dropped to her knees instantly grabbing the sides of her head as it was being filled by voices. Too much for her to take. She had taken a life. There was no turning back; it was too late. Kaelyn knew what was happening to her. The Light Diviner had turned to the opposite side becoming Dark, countering the light in her heart. Kaelyn knew that it wasn’t her but the power from the book taking over her but still she was to be blamed. The Diviner knew that Wyatt would be watching all of this happen right in front of him. Seeing as his cousin became a monster, a killer…
Wyatt shambled his way across the wall and behind his cousin's ex who still had his complete focus on Kaelyn and Kaelyn alone. He grimaced at the pain that was still shooting through his ribs, wondering how many were actually broken from the hit. His eyes looked over for a moment to the unconscious man who had attacked him that still remained unmoving before peering into the boxes of the room. Something useful was bound to be among them. He'd take anything at this point to somehow get them out of this situation and frankly he was more and more concerned now as Kaelyn clutched the grimoire.
The confrontation between them was enough of the distraction he needed as he lowered himself to the boxes below, but his attention was pulled away when Kaelyn screamed and the magic could be felt rolling off of her. The grimoire was tapping into her heightened emotions as it loved to do. Something he knew all too well. The power was coursing through her and it made the hair on his arms stand. The familiar nausea he felt from its power made his stomach flip as his body reacted to what it had purged those many months ago. Dizziness caused him to fall backward against the wall and he could only watch.
As the objects from the room began to spin around, he was just collateral damage despite Kaelyn's focus being on her ex. The chaotic magic didn't much care for being controlled when it was grabbing onto its new host. A book or few came at him and Wyatt was able to duck, but then a few shards of glass scratched along his face and neck. He brought up a magical shield around him in some attempts to withstand the assault, but he was barely able to hold it.
Though he couldn't see the man's face, blood spurted outward and sprayed across Kaelyn's stone face. Her eyes had gone completely black and Wyatt knew the grimoire had won. "Kae, don't! Don't!" He could've been on the moon then for all the attention his cousin was paying him. It was like he wasn't even there. Her ex screamed in agony and then went limp, falling to the ground. The powerful magic in the room dissipated and Kaelyn collapsed to her knees, the room going deafeningly quiet. He pulled himself up and couldn't help but glance to the grimoire as he slowly walked over and knelt beside her. He was in full view of what was left of her ex; the person she just killed. Wyatt knew everything would change now for Kaelyn and all he could do was wrap an arm around her shoulders and pull her into him, staring at the once foe who was now obliterated at their feet.
