To say the past few months had been a change in pace would be an understatement. Since a certain blonde had come into his life, Aeryn felt almost as if everything had changed, from being in the final stages of getting out of his lease at his current apartment and into one much more animal friendly to facing his fears of cars and general technology and passing his driving test, Aeryn felt a real sense of achievement. And even more surprisingly, he felt happy, in a way that almost felt foreign for someone like him.

The progress on the bar was slow but steady and he and Mikael were really good friends now, he’d met Scorpios and while their meeting definitely couldn’t be described as a happy one, it had led him to another friend. Then there was Harper, there wasn’t a day that she didn’t make him smile one way or another and getting to know her over had been something he really enjoyed, from learning about her strange obsession with diamond paintings to listening to her complain about her job at the pharmaceutical firm. He’d say they were pretty good friends aside from the fact they always seemed to end up falling into bed with one another every time they were together.

He rolled onto his back, snuggling into the blankets as he held up his phone in front of his face, he’d been texting with her for the past hour or so, both of them complaining about their crazy work schedules and how excited they were to have a full weekend off. He was planning on heading over to her little cabin in the woods early in the morning but as he grinned stupidly at his phone like a teenager, a thought struck him. Phones were barely a part of his life 2 months ago but nowadays he used his pretty much every day, mostly because he wanted to talk to Harper, he would often text her when there were quiet times at work or frankly when he missed her.

Without taking a moment to think through the idea of the feasibility of it he opened the dialing pad and called her, waiting with it propped between his shoulder and his chin as he leaned to the side and waited for the call to connect. He didn’t give her a moment to speak before he started talking down the phone, getting the words out as quickly as possible so he couldn’t change his mind or chicken out “Hey, so uh, remember how you said you always used to go to the coast as a kid and how I’ve never really been to the beach for the beach” he coughed a little “Anyway, since we have the whole weekend free, why don’t we just go, you and me” he chuckled softly turning onto his front and dropping the phone accidentally, he picked it back up and laughed “Sorry I dropped you” he teased with a laugh “Anyway, it’s a little crazy but what do you say, princess?” he went quiet to let her speak.

Harper stifled a huge yawn, padding into the kitchen on bare feet she barely opened her eyes as she reached for a fresh pod for the coffee machine. Popping out the old one, snapping the new one into place the blonde slid a clean mug onto the tray and then hit the power button to get the machine going. Her phone pinging made her smile, her arms raising to pull back the oversized sleeves of the man-sized pullover she had swiped from Aeryn the last time she had spent the night at his place. Picking up the device she called up the message, typing back a reply as the scent of hazelnut filled her small kitchen. Putting down the phone she added in some creamer and sugar, making the mixture extra sugary and sweet just the way she needed it to be in order to function.

She had spent the majority of last night at work, her team of chemists and engineers had worked through extensive trials of a new drug to test it to ensure it would hold up under intense scrutiny. Unfortunately, like most of them this one hadn't been up to par, the reports they had handed back to the developers had been less than savory meaning the doctors still had a long way to go before they had a viable drug to put on the market. Most people in her field disliked her immensely for how thorough she was but the blonde didn't much care, her trials kept people safe. Her unpopularity, however, made it hard for her team to work through which was why they usually did their trials at night when most everyone else was home in bed. Taking another long drag of coffee the Therian picked up her phone and tapped up a reply with her thumb then placed the phone down as she turned to fix her second cup.

Surprise lifted her brows as she halfway through starting the second pod when her phone started to ring, a goofy smile turning her lips up as she flipped the phone over and hit the green button. Touching the speaker button with a chuckle Harper hardly had a chance to say a word as Aeryn launched into a hasty explanation of why he was calling. Her hands kept at fixing her coffee as she listened to his adorably cute idea, sensing the nervousness in his voice even through the phone. There was a muffled pause, some scrambling as he dropped the phone then continued which only managed to make her laugh lightly as she doctored up her cup. Her cheeks hurt she was smiling so much and her hands itched to bury in his hair and pull him close as she kissed him until they were both breathless.

"I can't believe you dropped me. It's gonna be a while before I trust being in your arms again." She made a taking noise, propping her hip again the counter as she took a sip of her coffee and grinned like a lunatic. Thinking over her schedule for a moment, she shrugged, "I can be ready in an hour. Why aren't you here yet?" She groused setting her mug down as she set the mug down and picked up her phone, shooting a text message to her assistant manager of the garage to let him know he was in charge for the weekend.

Something he had learned about Harper very quickly was that she marched to the beat of her own drum, she did what she wanted, how she wanted to and she wasn’t the kind of person you would dare ask to change. Not that Aeryn would even dream of wanting to, she brought a lot of good to his life and they’d only known one another for a short while. It was casual, neither of them were asking for anything but one another’s time right now and he felt good about it all, something he hadn’t been able to say about most aspects of his life for a long time now. The moment she answered the call he had started talking but he did hear her laughing as the phone skimmed across the bedsheets. His eyes lingered over them for just a moment and he smiled softly, so many good things were attributed to this place now but soon he would be moving out to a new place.

He quickly collected the phone, propping it against his ear precariously as they talked and chuckled softly “I’m sorry! These damn phones are so small and I swear mine wants to commit suicide” he grinned to himself in an amused manner “I’ll make it up to you” he teased back as he got to his feet and started to wander around the room as they talked, he wasn’t the type of person who could stay still for long which was probably annoying for her but it wasn’t a habit he’d managed to shake yet. He was pretty surprised by her nonchalant response because he was kind of expecting her just to tell him it was too last minute or crazy.

“Oh...Oh” he widened his eyes, excitement filling his mind as he thought of all the fun they could have and all the things she could show him about the fun trips to the beach, she honestly made it sound like so much fun and Aeryn hadn’t done a lot of things in his life that were simply for the joy of it. Frankly, every time he had traveled anywhere it was because he had to and not because he wanted to. Even coming to Evermore hadn’t really been his first choice “Well then I shall see you soon” he spoke a beamed brightly as he ended the call and started rounding his room to pack a bag for the weekend, clothes, general healthcare stuff, pack of cards, keys, phone, wallet. He figured anything he forgot they could probably get on the way. Once the bag was packed he hopped into the shower for a few minutes.

He was pretty excited, just for the idea of getting to spend the weekend with her considering they managed to get a couple of hours tops most days and he just really enjoyed chatting about everything and nothing the way they did. Didn’t matter the topic, they encouraged one another, listened to one another’s problems, introduced one another new movies and music. It was nice. Something Aeryn didn’t think he’d find himself feeling about being with someone after all he had been through. But this didn’t feel complicated and he liked that. With one last sweep of the room, he grabbed his keys to lock up the apartment before heading down to his car and climbing inside, before long he had driven the familiar journey from his place to hers and was heading up the driveway knowing she would have heard him coming and open the door before he even got there he opened his arms instinctively.

"Now, now...let's not assume your phone has a death wish. Maybe it was engaging in a trust fall and you simply failed this go-round. Do better." Her voice lightly scolded him for failing his electronic device though she couldn't keep the laughter from bubbling up, even from this distance she could see him fumbling with the small phone. He was tall and lithe, his proportions that of a warrior and his hands were meant to hold a sword and shield, not a cell phone or a mouse. "Well that's a given," the blonde teased mercilessly looking around at her empty kitchen that seemed so big and sparse without him filling the void. Lately, the solitude she used to seek within the wooden walls didn't seem as welcoming or as calming, not nearly as soothing as his voice did.

Not willing to dwell or focus on that thought or those feelings too closely Harper chuckled as he realized how easily she had acquiesced to his suggestion. He had expected her to say no. "Don't be late." Once she hung up the phone the Alpha sent off a series of quick texts: one to her work so that they would know she wouldn't be in, one to Orion so he would look after her pack, and one to her second so the pack would know who to go to just in case something happened. If there was one thing she took seriously, it was her responsibility as the Alpha and whether she was in the city or away it didn't change her rank. Her people always came first.

That done she down the second cup of coffee hissed through her teeth at the burning liquid scalding her tongue as she sauntered into her room and grabbed a duffel bag. Used to packing light and fast the young woman stuffed some clothes and necessities into the bag in record time. Her childhood had been marked by going from one house to another until the Judge had helped her emancipate and then college had just been a whirlwind of classes. You slept where and when you could, showering if you had time, and partying in between to keep your sanity. Packed with some time to spare, she hit the shower to freshen up threw on clean clothes and had just hit the kitchen with her bag in hand when she picked up the sound of a car in the drive.

The idea of getting away for the weekend had the smile lighting up her face, her previous threat forgotten that the moment he approached she threw the door open and jumped into his arms. Her legs snapped around his waist, arms wrapping around his strong shoulders while her lips unerringly found his in a searing kiss. When she finally decided they could come up for air she licked her lips with a wolf-like rumble, "What took you so long?" Grinning she slid back to the floor, not a bit embarrassed by her show of affection.

Truth was he didn’t have a lot of people who cared all that much where he went, he was a wanderer, even his sister knew that and it was only in recent years that he’d actually stayed in the same place for longer than a couple of months. Evermore was different in so many ways, he knew that already, it was a place where he could be his immortal self and still live a life, it was filled with bright animated characters that meant a lot to his life. He had friends here, people to care about and cherish and for the first time in a very long time, he felt like he had something to lose, which was both an exciting and a very scary thought for the curly-haired male.

By the time he had pulled up outside of her cabin, he was ready to hit the road, going from someone who was completely averse to every car he saw to now owning and driving one of his own had been a shift but he was really impressed with the freedom having one gave him. This would be his first really long drive though so he was curious to see how things went. He didn’t have long to process his thoughts as he walked up however because the blonde came flying out of nowhere and he even stumbled back a bit from the momentum as he caught her, grinning as he eagerly met her lips with his own, humming slightly into the surprise kiss while he held her, he loved the passion she always showed and how happy she was to show her affections “Anyone would think we haven’t seen each other in a month” he teased it softly as he pressed another sweet kiss against her lips. .

“Oh you know, traffic and the likes” he gave a low chuckle as he slowly set her down, looking into her oceanic eyes with a serene expression on his face “So I was thinking we get out on the road first and we’ll pull into the first rest stop we see and get a bunch of snacks for the trip” the chuckled softly “Not sure they’ll have bacon but we can pick up some jerky and the chips you like” he swore she could eat the equivalent of an entire army’s worth of food and still ask for dessert, the wolf in her he was sure, always looking for the next meal to devour.

“Well I’m ready to hit the road when you are princess, do you need any help getting your stuff?” he knew the answer would be no because she prided herself on packing light but he found it polite to ask anyway, he had been raised somewhat of a gentleman before his father had gone completely insane after all.

Heavens above he looked so good, his hair a messy mass atop his head that gave just the slightest hint of a devil may care look crowning a good old boy smile. He seemed relaxed, far more relaxed than she had ever seen him before which made her all the more excited to go on this trip. Getting away from the city and the norms of their life might allow them both to open up more and learn even more about one another. Chuckling the blonde shrugged, “A week is an eternity when you work two jobs and run a pack and an eternity can sometimes pass in the blink of an eye.”

Exchanging one more small kiss before her feet returned to the Earth, Harper planted her hands on her hips looking put upon by the excuse of being late. “Well, I suppose I can forgive you as you can’t control traffic.” Tilting her head as he laid out his plan she nodded along nearly bouncing at the thought of food. “Sounds like a plan man.” Winking at her little quip she turned and mounted the steps to her little cabin, slipping inside to grab her phone, duffel bag, and upon further thought her craft bag that she kept by her couch. If he was driving, to begin with, she could work on her latest diamond art picture, a white wolf with glowing silver eyes in the midst of a dark forest.

Tossing her duffel bag to him with a sassy smile the Therian closed the door to her cabin and locked it. Doing one last mental check to make sure she had all that she would need the blonde nearly skipped to the passenger side of the car and slid inside. “Let’s go, Romeo, I’m starving.” With her each sticking out the window as he put her bag in the backseat she couldn’t help but admire the way he moved, his steady gait and easy strength. Something about the idea of getting away from everything, being isolated with him from the normal surroundings of their lives was a heady and intoxicating thought that had the wolf nearly wagging her behind she was so excited.

Popping back inside as he took his seat behind the wheel Harper curled her legs up underneath her, trying to stifle a mischievous smile. “Are you sure you are okay to drive or do you need me to take over Old Man?”

He had to admit it felt really good to know there was just a weekend ahead of them with no complicated schedules, no need to worry about moving or crazy things happening in the city, just the chance to talk and have fun and generally let go. Aeryn couldn’t really remember the last time he had really done that, done something crazy just for fun because his life had long been about doing what he needed to, not what he actually wanted to. “True, you are always busy, I don’t know how you do it without ripping someone’s head off” he gave a slightly shifty gaze “Preferably not mine” he added playfully to the end as their lips met in a soft kiss and he set her down.

“I wish I could control traffic, all the supernatural abilities in the world and there isn’t one that could save us a little time?” he grinned slightly, chuckling at the way she had put her hands on her hips as though she was giving judgment. It seemed he knew her pretty well because the blonde pretty much lit up at the mention of food. He followed her up to the entrance but didn’t get in the way while she packed her bag, instead just hovering in the doorframe and not subtly eyeing her because damn did she look good. She always looked good of course but the way her wavy blonde hair was hanging around her shoulders loosely made her look like a true free-spirit, a look he enjoyed on her very much.

He was a little surprised when she tossed the bag towards him but caught it just in time with arms both wrapping around it over his chest before he headed back towards the car and opened the back door so he could place it down with his in the back seat. He didn’t bring much, just the essentials he was going to need because he figured wherever they went would probably have shops anyway. “Yes I’m coming, I swear there is nothing that makes you more impatient than the promise of food” he commented as he climbed into the driver’s seat and placed the key in the ignition “Except maybe sex” he added with a wry smile in her direction before starting the car and leaning back in his seat.

“And less of the old man” he commented and grinned at her “Don’t you know with age comes beauty?” he chuckled as he backed out from her place and then headed up the winding roads which led to the woods until they were eventually joining the interstate. Thankfully it was a pretty easy drive in terms of actual directions, basically a straight line which meant he wouldn’t need to think too much about “So have you told the hardass at work where to stick it yet or are you still playing ball with him?” he remembered her telling him about the trust fund guy at the firm who had been causing her all kinds of issues. He remembered a lot of random this she had told him actually.

Harper laughed out loud, a smile lingering on her lips at his little joke lined jab at her. It was true that she had a lot on her plate and there were times when certain people got on her last nerve. Yet she loved both of her jobs and her position as Alpha had really grown on her, despite her reservations in the beginning. Rolling her eyes though she was still grinning, “I have excellent outlets for stress and aggravation, not to mention that most people who piss me off wouldn’t taste very good.” Her tone was haughty as if the thought of ripping into someone were beneath her allowing her to wrinkle her nose at the thought of biting a person’s head off. “Besides, Orion would kill me if I so much a growled at someone.”

Once he had her bag and they were headed towards the car, commenting on how control of traffic would be an amazing ability. “That and the ability to control the weather would make a person worthy of kidnapping. Not that I would do that…” Keeping a straight face as she slid into the passenger seat, getting herself comfortable almost right away. Something about this trip had her feeling more free and unfettered, a feeling that she knew Aeryn felt as well. There was a softer set to his shoulders, a more relaxed cast of his facial features, and a certain lilt to his tone of voice that she was finding incredibly attractive.

Smothering another smile she shrugged unapologetically at her pushiness involving food and subsequently sex. “I make no apologies for my appetites. I am a wolf after all.” She lifted one shoulder and gave him a sly and coy look, batting her eyelashes for good measure. “It could be worse, I could be motivated by money or shiny things.” That very thought was abhorrent to her as she was a simple individual who gained more from experiences and memories than tangible things. Her mother was in the latter category and to this day the pair of them didn’t get along because their personalities were so polarized.

Harper pouted for effect, reaching over to run her fingers through his unruly hair, “And such a sexy, pretty man you are.” She grinned wide once more, her cheeks already beginning to hurt due to her smiling so much and so often. It seemed to be a common occurrence since she had met him and one that didn’t seem to be lessening with time. As Aeryn switched the subject the blonde couldn’t help but groan, her head hitting the back of the headrest as her eyes went to the passing scenery. “He’s still around though I wouldn’t exactly call it playing ball.”

Delaine had been a thorn in her side since the inception of her Ocean Cleanup Initiative, his constant micromanaging and condescending manner had made her project drag on for far longer than it should have. Between his shifting of budget monies and staff complications, Harper had nearly seen her brainchild died before it had even had a chance to take a breath. “His most recent fuck up was in cutting the budget to supplies which has left us with virtually no ability to buy the necessary components to move on to the next stage of development. We don’t even have enough in the funding account to go to California and grab more samples from the Pacific!” The very idea was insane given the whole idea had been formed around cleaning up the Oceans, which meant they needed true ocean water in which to experiment.

A smile formed on her face despite the obvious frustration at being denied something so pivotal to the project. “It’s all good though. He is going to go into the board meeting next Monday all on his lonesome and try to explain where 3 million went and why he needs more for supplies. When he falls flat on his face I have no doubt they will call me in and you better believe this hot blond has a backup plan.” She used the nickname Delaine had helped himself too to prove her point and with any luck, the douche would be kicked off of her project. “How’s the bar doing? And the hunt for a pup?”

He chuckled under his breath giving her a knowing look in response to her comments about having outlets for stress, he was tempted to say ‘Don’t I know it’ but he got the feeling that would get him in trouble so he simply smirked instead, especially because he was amused by her comment about people not tasting too great “I mean they probably deserve the growling” he laughed shaking his head a little “How’s that whole alpha council thing going? Still complicated as hell?” he knew that Orion and Harper definitely had their differences in opinions from what he’d heard from her til now, though he wasn’t exactly sure of the reasons why.

“Traffic and weather control, not your most coveted superpowers but also not ones to be underestimated” in a world where super strength, super speed, elemental powers and even shapeshifting existed, it did make you curious about what else in the world was even possible to achieve. He glanced over at her in the passenger seat and smiled, it was nice to have some time just to the two of them, even if it was sitting side by side in a car, he was always curious to know more about her and this seemed like the perfect opportunity to just talk for a while, something they didn’t often have the time to do.

His lips twitched into a smile at her response to his jabs, she always seemed to roll with the punches when it came to joking between them which allowed him to feel relaxed and unfiltered “Wouldn’t have it any other way, besides do I ever actually complain?” about getting to spend time in bed with the blonde? Never. Ever since they had met he had felt this natural draw to her and after the first time, his desire for her only grew, something he didn’t really experience with most but he found so many things about her attractive. “Is this your way of confessing to me that you’re a secret kleptomaniac?” he asked with a low chuckled glancing over at her every so often between watching the road “I always had an eye for things which were worth a lot of money, I collected them to trade them in for the means to live but” he pressed his lips together “Never been solely motivated by it, if anything I’ve been motivated by experiences” he always took the opportunity to see and try new things.

He chuckled slightly, naturally leaning into her tough as she ruffled his dark curls “See, you find this old man completely irresistible” he chuckled under his breath, he was joking of course, he had never been the type of person who was truly narcissistic, he just enjoyed playing along with any jokes thrown his way “And it seems I have a thing for much much younger, very sultry blondes who tease me like crazy” he smiled slightly, she had definitely managed to steal his attention a lot lately, to the point where he found himself thinking about her and what she was doing or what she would think of the things he saw, sometimes he’d think about calling her and asking but he wasn’t sure if that crossed the line of what they had going on. “

The way she sighed when he mentioned her co-worker made him press his lips together, he could tell she was really frustrated by this guy and his lack of sincerity for the work, she way she seemed to describe it before, he was doing the work because he thought it would make him look good, not because he believed in it all that much “Well it sounds like he’s doing a great job of showing everyone how much of an idiot he is without you needing to lift a finger” he was sure she was hoping sooner or later they would take him off the project “What skills does he even claim to bring to the table here?” cause he wasn’t even sure what he was qualified in from the way she described him.

“You know you’re really cute when you get all worked up about wanting to save the world” he commented with a sly smile. He liked hearing her talk about the plans to clean up the oceans and help the marine ecosystem, she always had this passion and conviction in her voice which made you want to listen “Of course you do and I’m sure you’ll enjoy letting him flounder for just a little while” sounds like the guy could use his ego knocking.

He smiled when she asked about the bar and the pup “I never realized how long it takes to secure property” he shook his head in amusement because now he had finally managed to move into the place Tia had kindly let him rent, he now had to face the heard reality of trying to get real estate in downtown Evermore “I’m taking things slow, I went from living the same life for decades to now doing everything so differently so...I guess you could say I’m a bit overwhelmed by all the change” he laughed under his breath “I did get myself a job though, that little coffee shop down by the high street Jimena’s” he grinned sheepishly because he wasn’t sure what she would think to him working at a cafe of all things.

Harper met his comment with a wide and unabashed grin, feeling as if he might have said more but the response he had given her had been perfect. She wasn’t the only one with a salacious appetite and they both knew it. Mention of the Alpha’s brought up the new order of the Therian world and her smile dropped into a slight grimace, her shoulders rising in a slight shrug. “Yes and no. Orion and I have managed to come to an understanding but the Alpha of Alphas thing is still taking some getting used to. Lachlan is a bit of a mystery, I feel like he’s hiding something but at the same time I feel he’s trustworthy.” It was a weird dynamic whenever she thought of the male, though she was sure he was keeping his true self under heavy wraps she knew in the same instant that he was a great Alpha.

Chuckling at his retort the blonde rolled her silvery blue hues as she looked at him. “Well I would hope not. You might find yourself cut off and that wouldn’t be good for either of us.” Harper made a face, dramatically shivering at the thought of being denied entry into his bed. “I mean could you imagine me as a celibate?” She winced, again with a flourish for the dramatic, “That would not be pretty.” The Therian was exaggerating of course. Having slept around for a few years the blonde had discovered that while she enjoyed sex it wasn’t as much fun or nearly as fulfilling when you cared for your partner. Then again the very thought of suddenly being cut off from him made her twitchy, a feeling she didn’t like nor did she want to get used to.

Harper looked over at him from across the small cabin of the car, her body relaxed in the passenger seat as he joked and nearly echoed her own thoughts. He was so much older than her, having lived for hundreds of years by some trick of fate, and yet they were so much alike in temperament and attitude. It was eerie sometimes, how he seemed to echo her own sentiments and life creeds without her having to say a word. Their first meeting had been a trick of fate, and ever since there had been a magnetism that neither of them seemed to want to fight or ignore.

Shifting so that her knees were drawn up and pointing in his direction, the blonde laughed at his summation of his own attraction. And her’s to him. It was all true, a fact of her own mind that she couldn’t even begin to deny. The male Nephilim was smart and sexy and thoughtful and perceptive; all things she found incredibly attractive. Not to mention his prowess as a fighter which only made her melt even faster for him. Grinning again she gave him a pointed look, “I have to tease you. Keep that ego of yours from swelling too big. If it gets any bigger I won’t be able to fit in this car.” She shot him a wink the moment he glanced over at her, that playful spark in his eye something she had come to adore.

As the conversation turned to work and the constant thorn in her side that was Delaine, her eyes drifted to the window. The world sped by them, trees and houses flashing past in an ever moving picture of modernity. “Eh, if he hasn’t already then he soon will.” Letting out a snort of derision she answered his question, “Management skills...allegedly.” Harper doubted that the man had ever been in charge of anything that his father hadn’t set up for him, at least not before now. The entitlement that dripped from his every pore would only get him so far and it wouldn’t be long before that sense of superiority drove him off the proverbial cliff. His compliment made her blush, her hand reaching twirl around a lock of her unruly blonde mane in an effort to detract from how much his view of her pleased her.

Laughing she held out her thumb and pointer finger with a very small gap between the two digits, “Just a little.” In fact she was greatly looking forward to watching the male squirm in front of the board, trying to find ways of explaining how he had flushed a large portion of their money down the drain. Harper had gotten into bioengineering for the humanitarian potential, for the ability of the science to improve the lives of people everywhere. She had learned early on that there was a fair amount of politics involved in the work, an aspect of social dexterity that needed to be applied in order to get results. Honing those charisma muscles had been a bit tedious at first but the Therian had found that she had certain abilities as a female that helped out in that department. “I think I’m going to enjoy even more the moment he realizes that I not only rescued his ass but relegated him to a glorified accountant.”

“I love that coffee shop!” Harper’s eyes went wide and she gushed at how good their pastries and muffins were, smiling at the mental picture of Aeryn behind the counter wearing one of those green aprons. Her head nodded slowly as she digested the rest of what he had said, knowing first hand how hard it had been to secure the location for her auto shop. “Be patient. And don’t miss out on opportunities that might crop up in areas you haven’t been looking in. If the business is good enough people will go outside of the main thoroughfare to get the best bang for their buck.” Her shop was well outside of most of the areas where people frequented but business had been growing greatly as word of mouth got around.

“I know how you feel though. When I first got emancipated I was so overwhelmed, with all the freedom and choices I had. The safety of having parents to fall back on was suddenly gone and I felt like I was walking a tightrope over the grand canyon.” Those first few months and very that first year had been the hardest of her life. Yet she wouldn’t have gone back or changed anything for all the money in the world. Her choice to cut ties with both of her parents had shaped her into the woman she was now, into the Alpha she had come to love.

He nodded thoughtfully when she explained how her and Orion had come to an understanding, that gave him the impression that she was still unsure about it but he was sure that was natural considering an alpha was used to being on top and the idea of an alpha having an alpha must be an odd shift for her “That sounds like quite the dilemma” he commented at her observations about Lachlan “Do you think it’s just because you don’t know him well enough yet?” they had all kinda been thrown together after all. Aeryn bit on his lip when she said he might find himself cut off, he raised his brows as he glanced over at her as though to question if she could really follow through with that “I’m not sure I’d want to imagine that” he teased with a grin “We already know how you get when you’re...impatient” he grinned, not that he ever complained, he was just as bad most of the time.

He liked how playful and fun she could be, it felt easy to be around her because he didn’t need to take himself too seriously around her. She was smart and at times sassy but it wasn’t in a mean way, they jested one another like best friends probably would and they both seemed to know where the line was drawn. He didn’t mind spending hours on end bantering back and forth with her playfully, it made the time pass faster, which was especially useful when they were driving for hours on end. He chuckled when she teased him about his ego “Just you being here with me has that effect, so really whose fault is it?” he grinned slightly, he wasn’t really sure what it was that drew them together like this but he was glad for it because things felt so easy with her

Her work seemed like both a really big draw of passion for her but also the one thing she complained about the most, it definitely proved that the people you worked alongside could have a massive impact of your own experience in the workplace. He was almost certain if it wasn’t for this pompous guy she would be completely content with her work, no doubt stressed from time to time but that was the nature of the beast. “Management skills” he responded chuckling under his breath “That’s about synonymous with I want to sit at my desk and do nothing all day, while claiming a paycheck” he’d had his fair share of ‘managers’ so he knew exactly what she was going through.

He grinned slightly, he could say he was proud of her for taking the high road and not sinking down to his level, while showing him up in front of the board might be seen as a little petty the guy only had himself to blame if he wasn’t correctly prepared for it and honestly, it seemed like he deserved knocking down a peg “Enjoy it” he spoke with a wry grin on his lips, he was sure she would. He wondered what she would be like in a business setting, if the way she was when she was completing paperwork was any indication, she took it very seriously, which he could respect because it was clear to him that she had goals and full intention of completing them, it was why he was a little nervous to suggest last-minute plans like he did, who knew what else she had planned “With any luck, before long he’ll be off to bother some other company” he nodded slightly.

His eyes widened too when she immediately recognized the name of the coffee shop he was now working for, he knew that Enzo had gotten quite the roster of customers but he still found it strange that she knew about it. He smiled softly “Yeah I got really lucky, I think the owner took pity on me” he laughed under his breath “But I’ve gotten the hang of remembering people’s crazily complicated orders” he chuckled “How do you like yours?” he smiled a little, perhaps he could make her one at some point when she was having a hard day. She did make a good point though, he was sure with time and patience he would be able to find the right place for the right place “Right now my plan is to save as much as possible, so that when the right place comes up I’m ready to go” it would take time but he wasn’t short of that.

He nodded slightly “Freedom is a funny thing huh?” he pressed his lips together, perhaps she would have some insight which would help him “How did you decide which path to take in the end?” he was sure that circumstance was related to some of it but there must have been some rationale about why she chose Evermore and to stay here.
