This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things (Daehyun and Jaesung) COMPLETED

Today was like any other day. At least in Daehyun's dictionary, it means it's a day filled with somber, dull and solemn mood. Basically just pouring in plenty of other synonyms that could associate itself with the word. When it comes to him, there's no surprise anywhere if he didn't prefer running around in his current state of mind. Daehyun Stormwind had a look that literally says ‘I'm so done with life' plastered across his face 24/7. It's prominent enough to come as a mask, a permanent one. Could you blame him? He's had a tragic life so far, yes, so far, god help him if there were more to come along next. He simply didn't have the energy to fend off anything that resembles a problem. Or plural. But today defeats it all; it's Valentine's Day, the most hated day ever for him. Well, next to Thanksgiving, probably.

The elder Stormwind has nothing against festivities generally as a whole, but you know what they say, ‘haters hate what they can't have' or something along the lines of it. That's precisely his situation. Daehyun hated knowing while everything is going so well before his eyes, he was missing out on it. He wouldn't have someone to come back to for any of the festivities, or people to celebrate with. It wasn't as if it was a big mood to go around in Unyak too. Everything is ice cold, quite literally. The surroundings, the atmosphere, the mood, everything. As if being ice birds weren't bad enough, things were bad, the tension intensified too much that he was so sure one of those days, he would've snapped and break every string he had holding him back. Sure, he had Mirae. But considering how they haven't been conversing to each other for a century, says a lot about their rusted bond. Nothing he couldn't fix, at least.

Attachments didn't go easy for the pale haired Niveis. He felt as if he's been taking on bigger responsibilities every year that increases his lifetime. How does one live peacefully while hating themselves at the same time? Guess he'll have to find that one out. Running his fingers through his light colored hair that resembles very much like snow, Daehyun sighed heavily before closing the book he's been reading. Now, when the hell has he ever had time to read something that has no relation to his duty? Never. That's why he's been reading Evermore's history. If they were to make their home and settlement comfortably there, the least he could do is make sure it's a potential permanent residency. He didn't wish to move again. Thrice was more than enough for him.

According to the city's history, the peace treaty seemed to uphold their city for years, there has been a few complications here and there but nothing they couldn't solve. While humming to himself, Daehyun placed the thick book back at its respective place and grabbed his jacket before making his exit. At this point, his cabin was filled with plenty of books that really connects A to Z, and yet there was still so much that the young Niveis had yet to find out. So many things to cover, yet so little time. At least his only commitment was to that and nothing else, so he's lucky. The moment he pushed the entrance door open, the cold breeze greeted him square to the face as he actually had to close his eyes for a brief while. Just give them a blizzard and get it over with, could it.

Only he would actually stay inside for the whole day and only went out late at night. He had an excuse for staying inside though. 2 actually. One, it's Valentine's Day. Two, he had some reading to do and couldn't be bothered by any form of interruption and intrusion. It wasn't as if he had anyone to meet anyways. For the next few minutes, he found himself soaring through the skies and stared down at the dimmed lights in the city. It's actually not so bad from above. Landing somewhere between the buildings, he tugged on his jacket before entering the library. He at least had to make it seem that he's not abnormal despite not being affected by the cold weather. Considering the time he picked to go and pick a few books at the library, it was most likely going to be very empty. No idea how he passed the front, but the fact that he found himself between the aisles were good enough.

Until he knocked a few books down, of course. The sound would be barely audible since he was far back, but for someone who was near? It would scare the wit out of them. It did not help when the lights suddenly went out. Great. The young Niveis cursed silently before bending down to pick up the books. Everything was fine, up until he got back up and was greeted by someone. Don't get him wrong, he wasn't scared. Spooked and shocked? Maybe. It send him falling backwards with the books sprawled around him. “The hell-” Come on, it was dark.

Jae gave a knowing smile and nodded his head, somehow it always came back to the idea of fate, like there was some invisible plan out there for each and everything. Jae didn't believe in it, he couldn't see the rationale for why he would ever want to, yes he did agree that sometimes you had to accept that things just happened and they were out of your control but he put that down to the harsh reality of a selfish culture and a world that turned regardless of what anyone wanted. He didn't believe there was a plan, he believed what you did with your life was yours to control “I could never believe that pain was ever something that could be justified for the better” he admitted honestly, life sucked sometimes but it wasn't because something better was coming.

Jae raised a brow curiously when Daehyun said he was the first of his kind he had met, dhampirs were pretty high in number now, given that any child that a valkyr bore would be one but they were still a minority in the supernatural community “Funnily enough you're the first niveis I've ever met too” the dhampir chuckled, he hadn't made a special effort to acquaint himself with those who were supernatural though he found running into one was much more common in Evermore “Hopefully I'm representing my kind well enough” he wasn't exactly what you would call exemplary but he didn't hide what he was either.

Jae furrowed his brow a little as the conversation turned personal and Daehyun spoke about the life he had led, it was clear from his expression and the way he spoke that it was something that still haunted him to this day “I don't think you really mean that” Jae commented as he looked back at the pale-haired male, he wasn't sure how anyone could truly believe that not feeling empathy was better, easier perhaps, yes, but not better. The dhampir got the impression from Daehyun that he actually cared a lot more than he let on but Jae decided to let him keep that secret. “I think being able to stand up for yourself is a good thing” Jae commented thoughtfully, there had been times before where he’d wanted to say something in his own defense but usually he would hold his tongue, especially if it was someone older than he was “Though I imagine it gets you in trouble too” there were always consequences for running your mouth he found.

Jae could understand being protective over a sibling, his sister was 2 years older than him and yet he still felt a level of it “You’re family, you’re always gonna want to take care of her” he loved his family wholly, even when they were very different from him, if one of them asked him to come home right now he would probably do so without questioning it, which was part of his weakness, putting others before himself, especially because he was beginning to have an actual life here in Evermore. Jae frowned when Dae spoke about it not being a big loss, he disagreed with that statement but he found there wasn’t much arguing you could do with someone who doubted their own worth, he had tried before “Well I’m going to prove that wrong, so since we’re friends now” Jae pulled his phone out of his pocket, opened the contacts app and selected to add a new contact and then he passed the phone over to the niveis “It would be a crime not to hang out again after all” he prompted with a tired smile.

“I really wish things were that simple” he commented with a shake of his head, maybe his father didn’t really love him, or at least he wouldn’t when he knew the truth, maybe that was the problem, after all, either way, Jae knew the moment he knew the truth that would be it and that was what scared him, he’d never been good at losing people but he also knew that he couldn’t live a lie forever. “My choice will eventually come down to two people I really don’t want to lose” but more than that it was between living the lie that he’d lived till now or choosing to be brave and facing up to the person he was now “I’m not ready for that moment just yet” which was just delaying the inevitable really but he needed to be sure things were going to last before he gambled his entire future on it

Hearing Daehyun talk about the life he currently lived and his motivations to get out of bed in the morning, the dhampir felt conflicted, he could understand why Dae would feel that way and yet he couldn’t help but want to help him see otherwise. Jae was just that kind of person, he saw problems and hardships and he couldn’t just ignore them, he wanted to help, even when he knew there was nothing he could really do “You have choices now” he stated with a shrug “Travel the world, start a business, get 10 hobbies, kiss some incredibly attractive person you meet...go to a concert” Jae saw a lot of good reasons to keep going, maybe that was because he was young and naive but he did have a massive list of things he wanted to do with his life, some of them were silly, others were lifetime kind of goals.

“Maybe...though I have a holster, I just keep forgetting to put them in there” he rolled his eyes, Jae would probably forget his head if it wasn’t on his shoulders. Jae listened to the way that Daehyun talked about the species he was, he could relate greatly, especially the part about trying to be what his father wanted him to be while never living up to that expectation, especially now. The dhampir did laugh softly when Daehyun spoke about causing a snowstorm because he was in a mood, that sounded like it could become a pain quickly, thankfully for Jae, most of his powers were linked to his weapon, meaning if he left it behind he was mostly human, in that respect, he got pretty lucky when compared to what other options there were “Well at least all the kids get a free snow day out of you” he teased with a chuckle, he’d always loved being able to play in the snow as a kid, a lot of his best memories were tied to this hill that they would sled down when snow came along.

It was refreshing to see someone who thinks out of the box, like what Jae is doing. He's never really met someone who didn't believe in fate or anything associated with them, and he's lived his entire life in that bubble so to see this change was surprising but Daehyun wouldn't go as far as to say that he was weirded out by it. Respect and credit is given when due, afterall–and that was exactly what the older male is doing. “Pain should never ever justified, it's insane to think that. Nothing can warrant out a life full of misery, not even if the whole world is against you. It's just not viable to be considered an option” he mused lightly, the tip of his fingers trailing in circular motion on the table. Thankfully, no frost came out of it, lately he's been very adaptable to his surroundings that helped keep his abilities under wraps without any influence of his emotions.

Snickering in response to Jae's answer about him being the first niveis he's met. “There's not really many of us around, Jae. Most don't try to show themselves to others too, in fear they would be shunned probably. The world doesn't know niveis like they know phoenixes yet. I do hope the time would come very soon though..” It was clear that Dae didn't like living secretively, like he had something to hide which he does, but hiding one's identity feels like he's a fugitive instead, which really sombers everything. “Don't worry, you represent yourself outstandingly, a very open minded well natured dhampir who strives hard against the world's system. It's not everyday you meet people like that” he complimented, he's only seen two sides of the coin but never bothered to see if there was any middle ground to it.

“Easier means better in my dictionary,  unfortunately.” The sad tone underlying his words indicated how he's always roamed around with that mindset, because no one else taught him any differently too. Well, Coldren did, but then after his death, things changed and his perceptions changed too. Everything didn't feel real anymore, especially after he witnessed the drastic shift in the elder's demeanor. So he questioned, was everything he taught him genuine? Or were they really just words? If the person himself didn't believe in those ideals, why would he. Nodding solemnly, he hummed in agreement to his words. “It means you're not just a slave to your impulses and you're real. But that's the thing, it does get you in trouble, more times than you think it would,” he commented nonchalantly, but pursed his lips softly before continuing. “but does it really matter if you're getting the same end of the sword at the end of the day?”

A part of him was glad he found Jae when he did, because family matters were not something he could speak of publicly, and let's be real, did the elder Stormwind really have anyone else that wasn't a niveis from his tribe in his network? Jae was the first genuine friend he's made in Evermore, and outside the tribe and his species in general. He felt somewhat accomplished. Whilst he wanted others to see through him, he decided against opening himself for the very reason of not wanting to be hurt. He's been hurt one too many times and couldn't handle more, god knows what would happen then. “I wish I didn't have to feel conflicted every time I have to make a decision. Honestly having only two sides with a hundred more inferences to each branch feels like too much work.” He doesn't just come down to one without thinking of the effects and aftermath, which is also a pain.

Never had he thought he'd be here in a library interacting with a living being so late at night, but there were far many more surprising things in life. Fishing out his own phone out of his jacket, he unlocked it and pushed it his way before putting in his own contact number. Hanging out, that sounded so foreign yet so normal to him. Letting out a small puff of air as he went ‘ahh’ at his previous answer, he felt sorry for him. It wasn't just him sympathizing, of course. “That probably had you torn apart.. To choose between the two without losing either one.” What a pain. He forgot how the regular world works after living in the tundra for so long, even his 40 years of scouring around didn't have him enjoying the same privileges. The technology was highly appreciated though.

“Well, whenever you feel ready or need a wingman, you know which number to dial” he winked teasingly, resolving into a small smile that seemed to shine behind that cold stare he always gives others. Quirking his eyebrows at Jae's choice of words and suggestions laid out, to say that he was amused would be a vast understatement. “Travel the world? On-going I think, I still haven't been to Middle East. I don't think I'm the business guy type, I always push everything off my schedule whenever my chief calls for it, so that would be incredibly irresponsible of me. Though I am trying to find a job, searching for something to occupy my time when I'm not off beating the living daylights out of people,” he grinned sheepishly, the small gummy smile making an appearance rarely. Of course Daehyun would say beating someone to pulp in that tone, he's.. Daehyun Stormwind. “Hobbies, added to the list. Kiss an incredibly attractive person I meet? Does sleeping around count? I hardly think I have time to spare for relationships” he mumbled, scratching the back of his head awkwardly.

“You sound like you have plenty of things you want to do though” he pointed out casually, but settled down how the dhampir was still young and growing, whilst the latter had his youth tainted too much to recall anything. “Free snow, aye? Don't you ever get tired of them? I heard people don't particularly like winter” Admittedly, it was a very ill weather but of course Daehyun wouldn't know that. The only dislike he had towards anything cold was back when he was a phoenix, who had a weird obsession with fire instead. “Not that I'm judging.. Frostbites are generally mean. Back when I was a pyromaniac, I had the same mindset about anything relatively cold or cool.” But now, how the tables have turned. “Curious question, do you train a lot?” Who knows, Dae could seek a training partner who he wouldn't actually enjoy beating maybe.

Jae never tried to force the things he believed on others, he stood where he stood and he always listened to other people’s point of views, he could understand why people would believe in the idea of fate and he respected their choice to do so, at the end of the day, if it helped someone to cope with the reality of the world they lived in then it couldn’t be a bad thing right? “I agree” he responded with a nod of his head, he liked the fact that it was very easy to talk about something so significant with Daehyun, it gained the other male a massive amount of respect in the dhampir’s eyes. “I think we can find a middle ground here and say the world is cruel, regardless of the cause of it” but it was up to you whether you took it for face value or did something about it.

Jae chuckled softly “Well my first impression of your kind is a good one” he assured, a compliment to the other male, he didn’t get an intimidating vibe from Dae, he was a little standoffish at times sure, but so were a lot of people, it was a natural reaction to things you weren’t familiar with “I don’t think any single species is born to be bad, it’s how a person decides to handle the power they’re entrusted that really makes the difference” and phoenixes, sadly, had given themselves a bad rep because of the wars they allowed themselves to get dragged into and for eventually refusing to make peace. It seemed like the Niveis intended to play this differently though. When Daehyun complimented him in return Jae smiled “I guess I just believe in making the world a better place when I leave it then when I entered it” he nodded a little, if he achieved that with his life, that would be enough for him.

Jae’s eyes showed empathy as he nodded in response to Daehyun’s words, he’d met many people like that, the kind who had given up on fighting, he wasn’t sure that day would ever come for him, his fighting spirit was one of his most prominent features “Maybe that will change one day” he commented with a sense of optimist, typically you gave up when you had nothing to fight for but that didn’t mean something to fight for couldn’t come along right? It was interesting, seeing the conflict that the other male seemed to be going through, he found it seemed to be a pretty common mentality those he met held lately and he suspected it was tied to the fact they were also immortal “Sounds like you need to take a page from the cat’s book and see if you can challenge that pesky fate” Jae commented and raised his brows, he tried to stay positive, it made life easier to swallow for him.

Jae had always been a good listener, he had a lot of friends back home in Seoul and he had always been the one they would talk to about their problems, he had developed a knack for being able to cheer people up with his goofy personality but he also tended to give decent advice too, the biggest problem he often had was being able to follow his own advice. “The thing with decisions I find” the dhampir explained “Is that if you really look deep inside, you know there’s probably already one you want to choose” he’d seen it a lot, people who said they were caught between two things but often they were actually looking for excuse to choose the one they thought was more selfish or may hurt others more “When you think about it like that, making choices feels easier” he paused then chuckled “Unless it comes to choosing what food you want to eat, because even I get caught up in that trap” the dhampir chuckled softly, he did love food.

It was very late at night and Jae knew he should really head back to his dorm before his roommates realized he had stayed out all night and asked questions he didn’t want to answer, especially because their assumptions would be close to right this time. Taking the phone from Dae, the dhampir typed his name onto the contact name and then entered his number into the mobile section and then slid it back over towards the elder male. “I know which one I want to choose” Jae admitted with a soft nod of his head, he was sure about that now “But this particular choice just makes me angry that it’s a choice at all” and yet there was nothing he could do about it, he couldn’t force people to understand and accept things they refused to.

“I appreciate that” Jae responded honestly, he knew he was shaping himself up for probably one of the most difficult times of his life and so to know there were people who would be there for him was comforting, especially so because Daehyun barely knew him and yet offered his help without a question, that only affirmed to the dhampir how good of a person he actually was. The younger male found it amusing how Dae took his suggestions literally but he smiled at his response regardless “I haven’t been most places” Jae admitted with a chuckle “But one day I plan to” though he supposed it was easier for Daehyun because he had wings. It was interesting to see how Dae put thought into each thing, it was clear he had more goals for his life that he had indicated earlier, he just needed to think about the smaller things “It counts” Jae responded with a laugh a little shocked at how open the other make was about that “Not everyone’s goal in life is the relationship path” he added with a shrug, it certainly wasn’t the only thing he wanted from his.

“I do” Jae responded honestly, he had a lot of plans for his own life and he was interested to see how they played out, of course, he didn’t expect it to be all easy but easy seemed hardly worthwhile to him anyway, he felt things were much more meaningful when you fought for them. “I like most seasons” he admitted with a shrug “Though my least favorite is probably summer, I hate being too hot, it makes me agitated” he wrinkled his nose, winter he could deal with though, just put on more layers. When Daehyun asked him if he trained the dhampir raised his brow “When you say train do you mean like...going to the gym or practicing fighting?” he tilted his head a little “Not that it really matters cause I’ve gotten into both lately” he admitted, part of him working to accept the dhampir side of him he supposed.

When was the last time he's met someone who could understand him? A while, that's one thing for sure. Daehyun knew it's been quite some time since he's actually met someone like that. He always felt so repressed by all the pent up frustrations and emotions swirling inside himself, and he had no idea where to direct all of that, that continues to aggravate the niveis day by day. It was precisely the reason why he enjoyed taking his mind off it by doing anything that required his utmost attention. With Jae, he feels like he could speak just about anything with the dhampir, without feeling like he had to hide who he was, and contrary to other people's beliefs, Daehyun wasn't all that. He's a good company when you get him. All it ever took was someone to understand him, that's all. It's amazing to see how quickly of a change it occurred in him once someone did.

It was like speaking with a younger brother, and it was already granted that Jae is younger than him, someone he could call a friend and a dongsaeng. The mint-haired dhampir had earned his respect fully by the way he thinks alone. All of the others like his personality and tendencies only came as bonus to the niveis. “The world is cruel.. Perhaps it's for the better or maybe the opposite. I'm sure nature just thought it's better for the humans to figure out the way to live and survive in the world without the help of others, may it be the air or the trees around them. To see if they could be dependent.” There were plenty of things to which Daehyun found astonishing, the kind of stuff that people would most likely find himself to be immersed in, nose deep in the book, reading every detail so he could form a conclusion, at the end of the day.

He gave the dhampir a grateful nod, leaving a space for a smile to creepy up genuinely. It was one of those rare smiles he only ever gave to a few people only, those sugary gummy smiles. “Mine is too.” Niveis were rather closed off, they were once phoenixes who got shunned by society and only accepted by those who were in their community, that hasn't changed when they morphed into a new species. An evolution, perhaps, but the only thing that changed was their identities, nothing more nothing less. Seeing someone so kind and open-minded to think this way, it warms his heart, not that he'll ever tell the other male that. “I wish everyone else could share the way you think. And in that retrospective, not just the one about accepting the species, but also of how they perceive the world. I understand people are different in their own ways, to each of their own, yes. But sometimes you can't help but to want others to hear your convictions and support” he mumbled. Sometimes, he really thinks what they need is support.

Usually, he wouldn't like people giving him nicknames or anywhere related to it, like resembling him to an animal or sorts, but he couldn't care less when it's Jae. Perhaps Dae couldn't find any reason to dislike the dhampir and that makes everything a lot more harder for him to carry out the ‘usual’ trumps. “Well, this cat has been immortal for a century, almost two in a few more years, and he's had a very shitty life so far. That's probably why he's always so grumpy and tired all the time” he grumbled, understanding that he was literally calling himself a cat, giving into that spect without a second thought. “If I had a drink for every time my life is fucked up, I'd be really intoxicated to the moon, and I'm a strong drinker.” Being a Niveis also helps because if phoenixes burn everything in their system, for them everything is a lot more quicker in terms.

Choices, what a pesky thing. “You're not wrong in that one. Everyone eventually had a choice, they just tell themselves they don't have one just to make everything easier, so it won't bother them in any way possible if they couldn't pick. I guess in a way, that speaks a lot about me too. But I did choose though, the difference is I chose the bad of everything, even when I know it's still possible for me to go through the happy path.” If only things were as easy as that. Daehyun chose the bad end of everything because if he wouldn't be plagued with half of the disappointment if things don't end up the way he was really betting them to. What the dhampir said later, however, caused the niveis to snicker. “I'm not picky, but even I can say that's a rule. It's a must have trait for every being.”

That's probably why they call food picking ad one of the biggest guilty pleasures. “I only ever went to those places because I had to, so I never had the time to enjoy anything there.” It's definitely not because Daehyun doesn't find anything enjoyable in general. “Well, if you need a buddy sometimes, don't hesitate to give me a ring.” What an unusual activity for the snowy-haired niveis, offering company to someone who's not a one night stand, but a friend instead. Maybe this is the start of his journey, afterall. At the sudden mention of relationships, he scrunched up his nose, shaking his head slightly at the mere prospect of it. Daehyun Stormwind is not, and he repeats, nor will he ever be a relationship guy. It's not the commitment that scares him, love doesn't scare him, no. It's the effects. He doesn't believe in love until he's experienced it, or until he's seen them with his own two eyes. Like he said, he's the guy who needs to see it to believe it. “I think hats the worst thing to say to someone who's hellbent into becoming dependent for the rest of their lives.”

Finding the humor in the dhampir's words, the older male couldn't refrain himself from snickering in response, smirking softly at just how easily Jae's words could be interpreted if said to the wrong people. “I agree to disagree, you shouldn't hate being hot, I don't think your boyfriend would like to hear that very much,” he winked playfully before eventually letting out a chuckle afterwards. “but O guess I can understand that, it must be so hard being hot all the time. People keep flocking to your side, aye?” He didn't forget to hold his laugh in, so it wouldn't sound as loud in the space where he was supposed to keep a quiet demeanor. His eyes lit up when the dhampir said he does train. “I mean both, yeah. If you ever need someone to spare or train with, seriously hit me up, I probably need to find someone who I won't have fun beating to pulp. All those complaints really gets to you even when they don't know it” he pouted, his bottom lip jutting out as he furrowed his eyebrows. “I don't think they like training with me..” No shit.

At the end of the day, it all came to acceptance, accepting that the world was never going to be exactly what you wanted to be and making the most of what you had regardless, the longer you say and pouted about how things were unfair or didn’t turn out the way you wanted the more time you wasted and time wasn’t something worth wasting. “We all have our own ways of coping” he commented with a soft shrug, Jae’s tended to be through sheer determination, when someone told him he couldn’t do something or it wasn’t allowed, it only made him want to do it more, he wanted to prove people wrong. That was what lead him to Evermore, wanting to prove that his writing wasn’t a phase or something that he only did for a hobby, writing was his life.

It was a rare appearance but Jae noted that the Niveis had a really great and genuine smile, it was bright and soft and honestly went so far against the bad boy image that the all-black outfit gave the impression of. He imagined a lot of people avoided Daehyun because of his somewhat intimidating appearance but Jae couldn’t find himself feeling scared after the way the two of them had met “The world just isn’t quite there yet” the dhampir commented with a shrug of his shoulders, he saw hope in the younger generation, who were learning to be more tolerant and understanding of others but the elder generation, they weren’t prepared for the change, stuck in their ways so to speak “But I think one day we will see better” that was his two cents on it anyway, being quite young himself and growing up in a relatively conservative society it was clear there was a gap between the opinions of different generations.

Jae hadn’t directly called Daehyun a cat but he was pretty sure the other male got the message of what he was trying to tell him, Jae had a little experience with taking his life and his future into his own hands recently and while it had probably been one of the most terrifying things he had ever done, it had also been the very choice that led him to the life he had now, one where he had a man he loved and felt optimistic about the future he might have for once. Jae frowned a little at the way that Daehyun talked, it was unfortunate to see the pessimistic outlook he had and it reminded him of other people he had met before, so blinded by the bad they failed to see the good “Sounds like he’s well overdue a new adventure outdoors” Jae mused with a shrug, when he felt down he thought about all the good things he had to look forward to and if he didn’t have any then he made some.

Jae nodded gently, he was probably too young to understand the full repercussions of a bad decision, he was still figuring things out and making them for himself right now and they weren’t small decisions, they were ones that could potentially make or break his life to come. Coming to America had been one, choosing to pursue writing despite his parent's wishes was another, choosing to get a job instead of relying on his parent’s money was a third and while it may not have been something he controlled the choice of, falling in love with a man was a major one. Jae was at the age in his life where big decisions were coming fast and it was scarier than he knew how to put into words “Choose the happy path Dae” he stated with a soft nod “It sounds like you deserve it” he added with a nod, he knew the path that made you happiest also usually took the most effort, but he hoped it would be worth it “Even if you start small, like letting someone be your friend” the dhampir smiled softly and nudged against the elder’s shoulder slightly.

“You know it doesn’t kill you to stop and enjoy your surroundings every once in a while” the dhampir teased with a smile, honestly he really did dream of getting to travel and seeing the world in its glory with his own eyes, with any luck with someone beside him to enjoy it just as much as he did. “I’ll do that” Jae spoke as he tucked his phone back into his pocket, really he was quite excited to have someone to talk to that wasn’t his boyfriend, because sometimes you just needed someone to be real with you and he knew Hanseol would always be a little bit biased with his words. Jaesung chuckled softly when Dae wrinkled his nose at the mention of relationships, that was a hard pass then “Relationships aren’t the be all and end all” Jae commented with a nod, he was very happy with his, but that didn’t make him unable to enjoy other things in life or seek out other goals.

When Daehyun twisted his words to something he didn’t mean the dhampir groaned “Not you too” he murmured softly though there was an amused smile on his lips as the male continued to talk “You’re not even subtle hyung” he commented with a slightly judgmental raise of his brow, he imagined it worked pretty well on single people though, along with the bad boy persona, he imagined Daehyun didn’t struggle to find that kind of company if he wanted it. The talk about training had the dhampir’s brow furrowing, he hadn’t seen a training session with Dae to know for sure but he pictured that the other male might be a little full on “Well I guess we will have to set something up then” he stated with a chuckle “Preferably without the beating to a pulp part, gotta keep my hot face intact and all” his words were dripping with sarcasm.

The dhampir glanced down to his watch and sighed softly, as much as he didn’t want this night to end it was probably about time he headed back to the dorm and pretended as he had actually slept this entire evening. He yawned a gave Daehyun a soft smile “I’d better be making a move, I’ll never hear the end of it if my roommates realize I was out all night” he shook his head a little, he really disliked the both of them by now. “I’ll give you a call and we’ll set up some training okay?” Jae nodded a little, how bad could it be right?

Jae exuded that energy where he had a way of making whatever he's saying justifiable. If it had been entirely up to Dae, he would've concluded that the dhampir possessed innate talents that he didn't realize he does. Which makes everything so much more pure. He's not going to lie, but the niveis saw something in him – something that reminded him so much of his past, the good part. The youthful aura surrounding the male brought Daehyun back to 163 years ago, where he was still coercible. At 16 years of age, Jae was probably someone he would've pictured his future self to be if things never went south. Unfortunately it has all passes and there was no point in rekindling those memories that's better off left in the dust. “I agree.. We do have our own ways of coping. Some better than most, and other worse than initial.” He categorized himself in the latter, truthfully. The elder Stormwind has made it very clear throughout time that he was only there because he felt obliged to be there, and nothing more. He felt a sense of duty overpowering him.

Personally? He couldn't give a damn. But as a niveis hailing from the Frostbourne tribe, he had responsibilities lining over his shoulders, and once he's gotten through all of them one by one, then he'll decide what to do with his current life. Though he'll have to admit that Jae's perception on things and the way his mind works piqued his interest endlessly. Perhaps he'll stay around him for a while longer, such company would be such a waste to be pushed away. There's not much people like him in the world, anyways. Maybe he'll be able to change his views, maybe he won't. Either way, he was interested in seeing how this friendship of their will unfold. Will it work out? To be fair, he wanted it to work. He agreed that things seemed a lot better these days, the younger generation were working to a way for a better way of life despite the older ones adamant in staying the same. There were possibilities that would influence their decision making skills in the future greatly. For once in his life, he could see hope flickering dimly. It's not that noticeable, but it's there. Somewhere.

“Hopefully that day will come very soon. We've lived in the dark way too long.” It was refreshing to see someone else feeling the same way he did. Jae was really one of the kind that has a skilled mindset that would no doubt aid him in the future. The dhampir has this calming effect that he was sure would work on anyone if it worked on him; a detached tsundere. Or perhaps he's just a lot more caring and easier then he leads on. The topic of the cat came around again and he bit down his tongue to refrain himself from laughing there. “Seems so. Maybe he needs a buddy to help him out. He can read a book but he's not sure where to start delving into the chapters. There are plenty of choices around, afterall” he quipped, oh please do assist him on that. God knows how terrible Dae is at management and organization skills when it comes to himself.

When he heard the male told him to choose the happy path, the niveis turned to face him directly, where before his eyes were wandering around the aisles of books arranged neatly at. Did he really want to choose the happy path? Yes. Yes he does. He wanted to be happy and content with his life. But is it the most viable option to take? Debatable. Is he going to be around when that small dim-lit flickering light of hope diminishes? He doesn't want to. Finding it hard to give an outright answer to that, he stayed silent and only gave him a grateful smile in return. “Thanks, Jae. That means a lot.” And it does. When was the last time he met someone who would encourage him like this? Even with his sister, they never came around such topics. Not surprisingly. Neither one of them liked talking about those subjects that would eventually revolve around sensitive issues they couldn't sort out, at the end of the day. And that was over a century ago.

Starting small. He never thought he'd be doing that. But he is. He's slowly making a friend with him now, isn't he? Scoffing in response, following the dhampir's remark about living a little, he shook his head and snickered. “Living a little? I had 40 years to roam around the world, and believe me, things are as boring as you can find from the 70s until today.” To him, yeah it was. Truthfully, the niveis had done nothing but juggle work with his somewhat ‘personal’ life; from tracking down a few selected individuals and collecting archives to sleeping around at every city he lands himself in. He's immortal, obviously he's dabbled. That's all it was though – one-night stands. The next morning he's out and about. He doesn't bring them home, it's usually the other way around. Bless the day where he actually brings one home. “I don't think it's for me. I can't be bothered to be tied down by it, no matter how much freedom my partner would give me” he mused, shrugging casually at the mere thought of it. He's never been attached romantically, and he certainly won't start now.

The word hyung rung in his ears and he favored it. It reminded him a lot on his roots, the small hints he actually appreciated. “Subtlety is an art. One I don't possess, sorry,” he winked playfully, clearly taking in this moment to prod the other male in a lighthearted fashion. “you're not gonna find any of that with me, trust me. I'm the kind who speaks his mind. If I want something, I'll tell or show you.” No point in hiding behind the bushes. It doesn't help. “Oh definitely, I can't even dare to think what I might potentially do to that sculpted face. Your boyfriend would hunt me if anything and I don't need more enemies, thank you” he sniggered, scrunching up his nose and wagged his finger saying no no. “But I can't promise you're getting out unscathed. Nothing too intense on first few basis, so no need to worry.” Unfortunately, in his dictionary, his definition of mild is nowhere near the actual one. He might tease and play around, but that's about it. But maybe with Jae, there would be a few exceptions.

Noticing the small yawn escaping the dhampir, he smiled briefly and nodded. “Call me whenever. I'm free enough. Except during my sleep time. Then that's a goner.” Following the dhampir making his exit, he decided to stay back and while longer to finish his research and waved a goodbye towards the mint-haired male. Today was eventful. He made a new friend. Jolly. The niveis found a small smile tugging on his lips, as he took a book in his hand regarding the history of Evermore and began reading it again.
