*THUMP*, Clara woke up, she must have fallen asleep while she was reading, she started sitting up and picked up the book on the floor, glancing over at the clock it read that it was 8:27 pm, she got up out of her bed and put the book on the dresser, walking over to her closet to grab a different outfit, she made up her mind this morning she would go to the city this evening for an evening out and she was determined to stick to her plans.
Once she had changed she looked into her standing mirror "maybe I should wear some makeup" she thought to herself Clara almost never wore makeup her mother once told her it made her look older. Looking up and down at the dress she had chosen she decided to keep any makeup off her face and leave her hair down "that's enough, stop looking at yourself." she thought as she walked away from the mirror.
Walking down the stairs barefoot with her shoes in her hand and her purse in the other. Getting to the door and locking it once she was outside, she sat down briefly on her steps to slip on her shoes, while she was putting on her shoes she could hear the crickets in the forest it was like a band, each cricket knew when to sing and it sounded beautiful just like magic.
Clara was on her way into town now driving down the road listening to the music on the radio, she never really went out at night but something her friend had said a couple days ago about her playing it too safe, and realizing in that moment she really did play everything to safe, she had made these plans to prove her friend wrong, and to prove to herself she could do this but mainly the first one.
Walking up and down the streets for a half an hour now she was thinking of going home, she hadn't really done anything this evening except walk and her feet were beginning to hurt, but Clara stopped where she stood and started listening, across the street she heard music, it sounded like a live band and it was coming from an Irish Pub, she had never been in a pub before and thought it might be a good idea.
She walked across the street and walked into the pub looking around the place she could tell it was pretty packed in here but it wasn't overcrowded, Clara stood in the background for a bit just listening to the music but thought maybe she should get a drink, she walked over to the bar, and sat down in the only free seat in the corner, the bartender came over he was older, red hair with white streaks in his beard and from when he spoke he was Irish "What would you like Missy?" he asked her " A Bellini, Thank you." he looked at her with a strange face like my drink was way too fancy for a place like this but he walked over to his counter and started making it. A few minutes later he had her drink in hand and passed it on over to her, "Thank you." she said.

Dominic could see the overwhelming emotions she seemed to be going through, but it didn't look to be in a devastating manner that would push her into some great sadness. He couldn't imagine what it would be like to find out about a hidden past his parents might have been keeping from him, but then again, children never really did know everything about their parents. The lives of parents only ever seemed to come out about them when they were gone from this world and it wouldn't surprise him if someday he'd found out more about his own that he'd never imagined.
The therian sat down next to her on the swing, looking out into the snowy forest. "Of course," he replied to her request, lightly rocking them back and forth since his legs stretched farther on the ground than hers. If Clara was comfortable enough to stick around and talk to him about it here on her estranged aunt's porch, then he knew there could be a possible mending of her family despite the mystery that surrounded her parents. Dominic was happy for her.
After staying quiet and letting her finish everything she had just learned, Dom let out a sigh and shook his head. It was filled with twists and turns and perhaps even more questions than answers. "Listen, I know we only just met, but I'm here to help you if you should ever need. I'm more curious now than ever to see what this all leads to," he said chuckling and giving her a soft nudge on the shoulder. "I know you have a new family to lean on, but doesn't hurt to have some friends to do the same too."
The door suddenly opened and Winston peaked his head out. "Ash is making some more food now that we've become some unexpected guests. Come on."
Dominic stopped rocking the swing and let Clara stand up before doing the same as he followed his nose back into the cabin where the food was being served. "Don't have to tell me twice." They all sat at the table and chatted about past memories that were new to Clara, reminiscing about a time long past when her parents hadn't become so reclusive to their families.
Soon the sun had set and they were heading back to his truck and on their way back down the mountain. As he pulled up to Clara's home where the drama had all started, he rolled down the window as his two passengers stepped out. "Despite being a complete pain in my ass, it was almost good meeting you Winston," he joked, nodding to the man.
"Right back at you, dog. See you inside, kiddo."
Dominic watched him head towards the house with a shake of his head and then he turned his attention to Clara. "Well, to think this all started with a simple drink in an Irish pub." He smiled to her, thinking how crazy the events of the last two days had turned out. "I really hope everything with your parents turns out okay in the end. If you need any help, don't hesitate to give me a call. Maybe we can even try having a normal drink some time again." A small smirk tugged at the corner of his mouth before he winked and turned the truck around to head home. wondering how a simple night of drinking with a pretty girl could turn into such an adventure.
"Well.. it seemed to have started when my parents met," she began. Clara was gripping onto the porch swing and her knuckles were going white. "My mom was human and my dad, Initia, he came from this tribe, and when they met, my dad was betrothed to another. My mom and dad were madly in love and they thought they could get married but my dad's parents forbid him and so my father ran away with my mother," In her own ears it sounded like some sort of weird fairytale, her aunt had given her details here and there about them but her mind was distracted so she could only fill up on the clip notes version. "My Aunt said that his betrothed was angry, and so she tried to find them, when she did though, my father was already dead, so she killed my mother and step-father..." she trailed off knowing Dominic would let her finish what she started but her stomach wanted to make a reappearance of what she had eaten. She took a deep breath and continued. "Apparently the man who came to show me my magic was my uncle, Aunt Sophie's husband, so I guess that's another mystery solved," Was she happy that she knew now everything. Yes, Clara was, all these questions she didn't realize she had been holding onto had been answered and she felt lighter in a sense and everything was more bearable now that she understood.
After listening to Dominic's reply, she felt happier, it was nice to have made a friend, she turned toward him and smiled, a real smile, one she hadn't been able to accomplish in a while. With Winston's quick message to eat dinner, her stomach made a sound, maybe delighted to be eating, especially with new family. So they sat at the table and Clara was fond to hear about moments in her father's childhood and a few troubling teen years, and she felt like she was a lot like her father in a few ways, but their differences were what drew her in, and as Sophie talked, she could imagine her father doing the same things. He wasn't as different as the man who had raised her and that gave her comfort.
When the meals were over and the goodbyes said, with promises to visit more, they were off, to her home, and nervous flutter filled her, things would be different now, but still the same and when she got home, she knew what she was going to do, take a nice hot bath and then read a very good book. They arrived and when Winston and Domnic said there goodbyes, dear Winston headed into the house, as much as that man was a pain in the butt, she would look forward to getting to know him, and all he had to tell her.
She turned toward the man she had only just recently met and thought about how strange this world was, one moment, a complete stranger you just met, and the next helping her solve a family mystery. "I'd like that, And Dom, thank you, if it wasn't for you, I wouldn't have closure, I wish you well," she said, and with a wink from him he was gone. She walked back toward the house, turning once to see him driving off home into the darkness.
